Aggregated reviews for 31 Thoughts: The Podcast

Jeff Marek and Elliotte Friedman talk to a lot of people around the hockey world, and then they tell listeners all about what they’ve heard and what they think about it. Plus, look for bonus episodes featuring interviews with personalities in the game or famous fans.

31 Thoughts   (5/5)

I can’t get enough of this podcast. It is great every week. Informative guests and lots of inside info. Keep up the good work.

Thanks great podcast   (5/5)

Well done

Highest production values   (5/5)

Best drops and sound in the sports podcast universe. Sets the bar. ( Even in pandemic challenged locations zero dropoff ) Great hosts and fantastic informative content - never disappoints. Sincerely hoping we get to that 32nd thought :-/

Zachary Binney   (5/5)

please repost the Zachary Binney interview as a stand alone. Great info

Highlight of the week   (5/5)

I look forward to every Thursday now and your talks. I wouldn’t mind if these were even longer! I feel part of the conversations with your guest. They have been so entertaining and insightful into inner hockey and these hockey players.

One of the best hockey podcasts   (5/5)

One of the best hockey podcasts around, the chemistry between Elliotte and Jeff is fantastic!!

Awesome job and Thank you!   (5/5)

Love, Love, Love 31 thoughts!! The insight, different perspectives, knowledge and connections are outstanding! Definitely opened my eyes to more in the world of hockey and I look forward to this podcast. These guys make it feel as if your sitting with them and could sit with them at anytime for good conversations. Very good, keep up the great work and thank you for your work and efforts in providing all the content that you all do.

Timestamps?   (5/5)

Wonder if we could add that in

Show shouldn't be LONGER with no season   (3/5)

I've been a listener of this podcast since it's inception. I mostly like the banter of the hosts during the season talking about the blog, the news of the week, and just what is going on with the league. I've noticed this season this show has gotten more interview happy and now with the shut down, that's basically all this show is, Interview Interview, Interview. You shouldn't have 2 hour podcasts when there is barely anything going on, and I think having 3 guests on the show is too much. You want to split the show up, maybe do Monday and Friday where you have banter and then a guest or a couple guests, that's good. Having a single show that's over 2 hours of nothing but interviews is getting tiring. I also miss the Ask 31 segments where they take twitter questions from listeners. Heck, the reason I got into this podcast was because my favorite podcast, Marek Vs. Wyshynski was ending and I still wanted to hear Jeff Marek. I also liked the community aspect of MvsW, which you don't get here. It's a shame this podcast has just become the interview show. I don't mind the occasional interviews, but I think it's getting to be too much now.

Best Hockey Podcast around   (5/5)

One of the best podcasts out there! If you love hockey or care about people then you will live this show.

Listen to this podcast   (5/5)

Seriously. Listen to it. You will not be sorry.

Definitely One Of My Favorites   (4/5)

Great show. They guys are articulate and keep it interesting. More formal and less locker room like some other shows (Chicklets). The audio quality is great compared other shows that could definitely use some production, which I appreciate. If it’s relevant around the league they’re discussing it, but there’s lots of call backs and an almost default to the Leafs. I love all things hockey, and will continue to subscribe and listen as a fan, but I could do with a little less of the ooooohhhhh canadaaaa.

Wicked smaht   (5/5)

Much better discussion and insight than other podcasts...cough...chiclets

Smart and interesting   (5/5)

2 very well spoken and cerebral dudes bringing interesting and intelligent analysis for Every team Every week. Great stuff

Hockey directly into my veins   (5/5)

This podcast is the equivalent of intravenous hockey consumption

2 much TOR   (4/5)

I love the hosts and listen regularly but Too Much Leafs. I get it - big market - be for us Ottawa natives living out of the country - who cares about the Leafs

Can’t Get Enough   (5/5)

Hands down the best hockey podcast out there.

Favorite Pod   (5/5)

31 Thoughts and Chiclets are my two favorite podcasts. You, however are the antidote to Chiclets and I will always listen to you first. Thoughtful, articulate, well spoken and not the locker room (and I LOVE the Locker Room)! Great insight - and you really dig deep to satisfy the true hockey player in terms of your depth and breadth of subject matter. Thanks again and keep it up.

Best analytical hockey pod   (5/5)

This ain’t Chiclets or Puck Soup. If you’re looking for substantive analysis of the game today, this is the one. Friedman is one of the most informed guys in the sport, and Marek is a great host.

Hockey Fun   (5/5)

One of The best Hockey (and best in general) pods around.

Disappointed.   (5/5)

Love this Podcast but was very disappointed there wasn’t any discussion regarding Don Cherry. It said it was recorded on Wednesday, so it was well after his dismissal. How can you discuss Kovalchuk’s situation in LA as the lead story and not even a mention Don Cherry? The whole podcast other than the Stone interview should’ve been about Don Cherry.

Wow   (5/5)

I don’t know what to say. The CM Punk interview was amazing. Jeff was in the zone. Like a goalie in a 45 save shutout. Elliot was great too, despite his self deprecating comments at the beginning. I’ve listened for years and it’s always been a 5 star show but that interview was amazing. Wait til the last question. Fantastic show. Well done gents.

BORING   (1/5)

INTERVIEWS are BORING AF!! Cliches spewing from grown kids. Time-filler BS! <5 minutes of thought content. All ego-infused corporate rhetoric from merman 🧜‍♂️ and the she wolf 🐺

Love these guys!   (5/5)

Jeff and Elliott are great hockey guys. They have good chemistry and respect all the people they interview. Love this podcast!

So good   (5/5)

I love this podcast. The insight Elliott and Jeff share is second-to-none, and it’s always interesting. I understand the inner-workings of the game much better now because of this podcast. Highly recommended.

Sounds of the Season   (5/5)

Amil and Maria St. Aubin, you guys totally crushed the sounds of the season. That was so much fun to listen to and brought back plenty of great (and not so great) memories. Being a Lightning fan I’m sure you can understand why. Already looking forward to your edition for next season.

🤙🤙🤙🤙   (4/5)

This pods gets 4 hang-tens. I’d go five, the timing on release is a couple days behind. And with 31T’s being a niche-topic-based media subject- it’s comes off as poorly organized. Just listen to anything Marek is involved with. Super thoughtful and knowledgeable dude when it comes to all facets of the game. As for Elliot, holy smokes, stoked that dude joined up. But he can be a bit of an ego-maniac and publicly treats the producer with little respect. Great tandem though, worth every bit of listen.

Amil   (5/5)

Amazing pod love every minute of Jeff and Elliotte and would recommend for anyone who loves hockey to give it a listen. Love that they always give so much love to the real MVP Amil who put the whole thing together! Excellent show and can’t wait to listen every week!

Excellent   (5/5)

Two of the best . Coverage is excellent I look forward to every episode ....best part about these guys besides the great coverage is they are both fans and you can see much how much they love the game...keep killing it elliotte and Jeff 👍🏻👍🏻 Let’s go isles!!

Jeff rocks   (5/5)

Jeff. You’re a rockstar, bro. Been a fan for years. Great stuff!

Podcast   (5/5)

Great podcast, so much insight and I can’t appreciate it enough! Let’s go isles!!!

👍👍👍   (5/5)

Absolutely fantastic podcast! My #1 listen every week. Keep up the great work boys!

Thorough and Informative   (5/5)

Great podcast. Never a bad episode. Every topic or guest is to the point and easy to listen to.

Newer subscriber   (5/5)

I enjoy the show Jeff & Elliot do a great job with insight around the league , they do their research & know how to deliver it to the fans. I never miss a show

Great   (5/5)

Merek is so good. Will follow him wherever he goes. It’s obvious that he was Shawn and Wyshynski was Marty.

Excellent editing   (5/5)

Love it

Required Listening for Hockey Fans   (5/5)

Excellent podcast. Super informative.

Put minute times of when interviews start/stop   (5/5)

In the episode description, put the times when topics change and when interviews start/stop. If someone wants to only listen to the interview, they can fast forward to it.

one little issue   (5/5)

love this pod. Jeff does a great job of just kinda setting elliotte up to move around the league and the various news and notes from the NHL. they can go fropm silly discussions abou that things that have nothing to do with hockey to serious conversations with players and execs about whats going on in the league. they have a great chemistry together and do a great job of treating their jbs with the appropriate amount of respect without taking themselves too seriously. however, as the title says. one little issue. i dont have a twitter and i cant seem to find an email on SN to send some thoughts or q's in. any way to solve this would be appreciated. but even without i will continue to be a constant listener. 31 thoughts has quickly become a staple in my podcasting diet. thanks for the great pod guys. and in the name of all things good and decent, please go as long as you'd like. the ones that hit close to 2hr are always a welcome treat.

👌👌👌   (5/5)

This has been one of my favorite podcasts for a while. Both very insightful and honest and Jeff is maybe the best podcast host I’ve ever heard. Keep up the great work!

Question   (5/5)

Gents, Question about player development. I was wondering if you can speak about the mindset of athletes and how they crave habit and how does the line juggling game to game, shift to shift, affect them? I feel like every coach I’ve watched for the NYR have done this same thing game in and game out. So... is this a league wide thing and what do sports psychologists think? We have a lot of young players on the Rangers and there is angst because they bounce up and down the lineup.

Best Hockey Pod   (5/5)

Hands down. I do miss MvW but this is seriously perfect.

Best hockey podcast out there   (5/5)

Awesome, two of the smartest guys in the business

Hello   (5/5)

Hello guys, I stumbled onto your Podcasts. I am just getting into hockey on 43 years old. I’m a Florida panther fan, any books you can suggest on how to understand the game? Love your Podcasts all the way from Miami sending you two much love thank you.

Please come back soon!   (5/5)

I miss you Jeff and Elliotte!

See ya next year!   (5/5)

Outstanding work gentlemen! You have become a must listen every week. Looking forward to next year. Go Sabres!....please!

For the NHL fan   (5/5)

Excellent all round NHL insight and coverage, only slightly leaning towards the Canadien teams.

Two of the GOATs   (5/5)

They're called GOATs cause they're good. It's an acronym. Look it up.

toronto centric   (3/5)

like i dont like how every show revolves around toronto. the hosts say the word "like" about 1000 times a podcast like a couple of teenagers. it is very ok nothing special

Good stuff.   (5/5)

Love the show. The interview with Rob Thomas was fun. Keep up the good work guys. Lets Go Blues!

Love everything about this podcast   (5/5)

A couple of guys in the industry with a finger on the pulse of what’s really going on in the NHL. Always look forward to this show!

Eh + Pod   (5/5)

Insightful, well thought out, some frat interviews, and so beautifully Canadian.

Obviously it’s great   (5/5)

The moment this podcast was announced, we all knew it would be essential listening. And it is! It’s so good! Two great hockey journalists discussing the sport we all love. Plus if you’re into random NBA stories from the 90s, this is accidentally the podcast for you too.

Great Content   (5/5)

This podcast is awesome! If you are a fan, youth, junior, or parent there is something meaningful and totally entertaining in every episode. Keep it until guys!

Finally   (5/5)

Two geniuses of hockey/sport coming together. Unreal.

Great Hockey Insights...   (5/5)

Non-hockey too. Awesome interview with Dale Tallon!

Best Hockey Podcast   (5/5)

Love the pod, keep it up. Great music choices, especially love the intro.

Cut to the chase!   (3/5)

I like these guys but they go on way too long! Should be able to do 31 Thoughts in no more than 45 minutes. Lots of very uninteresting, not very funny bits.

Simply the Best   (5/5)

Not to be overly dramatic but my life has been greatly improved by listening to Jeff, Elliott, and their guests. I learn a ton about hockey, laugh & even pick up some life lessons. Can’t miss for any hockey fan.

Great behind the scenes info   (5/5)

I get good coverage of my local team but this podcast tells me what’s going on with the other thirty teams in an entertaining and professional way.

Too long   (3/5)

Great content but the show is too long. Keep it under an hour.

The best   (5/5)

By far the best hockey podcast out there. Friedge is fantastic and Marek is a superb host. Many thanks!

Great hockey podcast   (5/5)

Best hockey podcast around

Excellent hockey pod   (5/5)

Out of the few quality hockey podcasts out there, this one tops them all Excellent insight and stories from Elliot and Marek

Excellent   (5/5)

Great content, love it!

Simply the Best.   (5/5)

This is a great podcast, not just a great hockey podcast. The only problems I have with this are that it only comes out once a week and it too short when it does drop. You get two guys that know their stuff to this degree together and you just want more and more. Only rated this five stars because ten stars was not an option.

I love Jeff Marek   (5/5)

Hands down my favorite hockey broadcasting personality. And I’m American!!

Greatness   (5/5)

No better hockey talk than Jeff and Elliotte

Fantastic hockey talk   (5/5)

The only problem is the episodes are too short

Good Stuff   (5/5)

Was so disappointed when Marek v Wyshynski ended but Marek picked up where they left off and is killing it on 31 Thoughts. Love that it's straight hockey talk sprinkled with stories and facts you've probably never heard.

Marek needs his own show   (5/5)

Have been listening to MvsW for a while and like many was devastated when it ended. Jeff's Marekisms have taught me a lot and glad he had a new one. Always loved the 31 thoughts piece and to have it in audio form with my favorite hockey pundit....it's entertaining and thought provoking and hope this goes the distance. Marek, Elliot.....:keep it up guys. This podcast is golden

So far so good   (5/5)

One of the better hockey podcasts I’ve listened too.

Audio   (4/5)

Is anyone else having issues with the audio? The volume between Jeff and Elliote is significantly softer than their ads or intro volume. Love the podcast but the volume is frustrating.

LOVE this podcast   (5/5)

The BEST hockey show out there along with the Sportsnet noon show (Doug MacLean is a national treasure!). From Nebraska and new to hockey. Not to overdo it but this show really transcends hockey and brings a creativity and thoughtfulness that makes me love the game even more. Bravo!

Nice guys, try hard, love the game   (5/5)

I can't think of anyone I'd rather listen to more than these two. I'm so thankful to be able to listen to such high quality hockey talk.

Brilliant   (5/5)

I’m so happy this is a podcast. Two great hockey minds that I’ll make a point to listen to every week.

The Best Hockey Podcast   (5/5)

I really enjoy the new podcast. I have an hour commute one way, but I look forward to Wednesday evening because of this podcast. Jeff and Elliot are tremendous journalists who know and care about the game. The inside information they provide is second to none. If you enjoy the business of hockey on and off the ice you should listen to this podcast. P.s. At the beginning of the episode on January 23rd you guys told a few draft stories from behind the scenes. I could listen to those stories all day. Thank you, J.J. Hanke

Great hockey podcast   (5/5)

Great podcast with some terrific insiders and love the stories both these guys can tell about being inside the nhl. Would like to see these anywhere from hour to hour and a half sometimes the 45 min ones are too short.

Marek is the best   (5/5)

One of the best minds in hockey and always a joy to listen to him talk the game.

Two brilliant and likable guys   (5/5)

They bring so much to this podcast and it’s nice to hear what reasoning they have behind certain ideas.

This is THE hockey podcast to listen to!   (5/5)

I love this podcast. When the "ESPN on Ice" podcast was released in December, I was really disappointed with it. Corny music with incessant, lame attempts to be funny by the hosts (who are not very good) and lots of stupid pop culture references. Then, "31 Thoughts" was released in January...and this is exactly what I wanted! Just really intelligent NHL hockey talk by two people who really know the game. Please keep it coming SportsNet!

Love the pod   (5/5)

Can't be happier with this Pod. Great hockey insight and banter!

Best thing since MvsW   (5/5)

As a longtime fan of Jeff's previous podcast MvsW, I've been a lost and wandering in the woods since it ended. There are few people in hockey that have a mind like Jeff Marek and I've missed listening to him talk hockey and life. I call him hockey budda because he lays down some pretty sage life advice on a regular basis too.

Jeff Marek is great!   (5/5)

Really like listening to Jeff Marek whether it’s hockey or other musings. Miss him and Wish.

Dear Mr. Marek   (5/5)

We accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong. But we think you're crazy to make us write an essay telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us - in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But what we found out is that each one of us is a brain... ...and an athlete... ..and a basket case... ...a princess... ...and a criminal... Does that answer your question? Sincerely yours, NHL front office

31 Thoughts   (5/5)

Two of the best in the business. Can’t get much better than that!! Great podcast!

New Hockey pod   (5/5)

This is now my new favorite hockey pod! Need a Zappa song for the theme, maybe Comik Debris, Grand Wazoo or Big Shifty

Great to see this podcast happening   (5/5)

Happy to see Jeff back at it and him in combination with Elliotte will quickly become the pinnacle NHL podcast.

First show   (5/5)

Great first show can’t wait for more!

First Show   (5/5)

Loved it ! Smart insiders talking hockey ! Love the stories and just general insight. Keep guests to a minimum.

You had me at no intro   (5/5)

Just hit the on switch and go. Good instructions for all podcasters and as well as for the listeners. Solid narratives presented here, either for the short term (all-star game) or the long run (how the game is and will be played). And to top it off, having Doug MacLean throw out the first snowball before going out to chase kids off his lawn was a master stroke. Nice job, Elliotte and Jeff.

Marek is back!   (5/5)

I was pretty depressed when I heard MvsW was ending and I don't really care for Wysh's new podcast. So far this podcast is fantastic! Really glad to get my weekly Marek dose!

Pure Gold!   (5/5)

This podcast is the combination of my two favorite hockey storytellers. Jeff and Elliott both have always astonished me with their knowledge hockey history. Who better to tackle today’s hockey stories?

Moderate Sized Hobo   (5/5)

I can’t wait to see what the Society of Hockey Research (bun dun dun dunnnnnn) stories and knowledge Jeff drops each week. Being from America we rarely get to hear non-localized Hockey stuffs. Glad to have a new podcast from the gold standard bearer. Oh and I’m sure Elliott will be ok too.

Happy place   (5/5)

US-based mega-hockey fans like myself are starving for quality hockey programming. Podcasts can be a godsend. Was crushed when MvsW ended. Jeffy back and now with Friedge goes a long way towards filling my hockey void. Loved poddy 1! Will be setting a weekly reminder on my calendar. So glad to have you back, Jeffy!

What say you   (5/5)

Welcome back from the wilderness Uncle Jeffey!

Uncle Jeff   (5/5)

Episode 1 was great success

Great work!   (5/5)

I’m a fanboy of Both these guys so this podcast is right up my alley. I would love to here so old time hockey stories of players I grew up watching (1993ish-Present) and I love talk about the next wave of players coming to the league. I can’t wait to see how this podcast continues!!!!

Picking up what your puttin down   (5/5)

Welcome to your new favorite podcast. Random Penguin: Tyler Kennedy.

Jeffyyyyyy   (5/5)

Marek vs. Freidman? Yes please. I love it already

Who needs wyshinski?   (5/5)

Nobody. Nobody needs wyshinski

Wow   (5/5)

This podcast is everything rn.

Dumb   (5/5)

There’s dumb and hockey dumb, and neither of these fine chaps are that. As a #MvsW fan, RIP, I am excited for Jeff to be back podcasting. Elliotte was one of my favorite guests on #MvsW so it is super awesome for him to be a co-host. Best of luck boys.

Jeffy   (5/5)

This 7 minutes is already better than the espn on ice crap

Woo   (5/5)

Pumped to finally get jeff marek on a podcast with a knowledgeable tag team partner! Can’t wait for this to drop

Exciting!   (5/5)

Looking forward to hearing more from this podcast going forward. Marek could be delivering my cats eulogy and I’d listen intently!

Two of the best   (5/5)

Can’t wait for first episode

Uncle   (5/5)

Jeffy
