Totally love this podcast!! I have binge watched all the episodes and I am hooked. The humor and sarcasm are what I look forward to every time I push play! Thanks for the entertainment during the pandemic !!!
Why you should always know the non emergency dispatch number!
I love that you guys can make me laugh, and lighten up, heavy topics while still getting the information to us. Keep it up!
I mean - not the calls...but the commentary is ah-mazing
I absolutely love this podcast
This is such a great podcast..these two guys are great together!
OK, this is a live one, this podcast. Some I listen to I think”Geez this may be a bit rough”, others I giggle like I’m demented. BUT.... all are great due to The Operator and Luna. I have recommended to a bunch of friends. Some won’t return my calls. My real friends can’t wait to discuss.
I love this podcast. I wish there were more episodes!! I think Luna and the operator are hilarious.
I love this podcast . I binged every episode and now I’m in agony anticipating the next one ! I absolutely love the format . Love the operator and Luna . Very well done . I’ve been waiting for a 911 call podcast like this! Gimme more !!!! Will def subscribe to patreon if there are additional episodes .
They’re trying to be funny. They are not. At all. Luna is insufferable and the operator thinks he’s a comedian. They play the audio and then stop the audio to drone on and on about nothing. I tried two episodes and I had to stop. Maybe it’s gets better but I guess I won’t be finding out. They need to re-evaluate their formatting.
These two though... they’re so cute together. The accent and the audible eye rolling. I’m gonna need you to record these more often. Edit: having withdrawals over here. I’m ready for you to push play. You gotta pay the bills! EDIT EDIT: LUUUUNA..... c’mon man! You’re killing me here! May 29th? Must we beg? (It’s not beneath me!) Note to creators: did you quit?
The format is amazing! However, attempted humor during the show falls short. Less banter and more conversation on the topic would improve it. People that aren’t naturally funny, forcing humor is annoying. Has potential tho
I absolutely LOVE your weird ass sense of humor! I appreciate it so much! It’s a perfect balance of calls and humor. Keep up the good work guys!
The operator is legit HILARIOUS, and Luna brings his typical dark lightheartedness to the fold making this an amazing pairing. Love it.
Luna, listen. The Operator is right. Your podcast is award winning. I love it. Here is my award to you. Keep going! I’m ready for you to hit play. Love it!
This podcast is GREAT!!! I love listening while at work. The Operator is funny! Please don’t go anywhere!! Love love love this podcast 🤪🤪🔪🔪🪓🪓⚰️⚰️
Love the Love between you two. Luna you’re golden, and I’d say that the Operator is on his way! P.S. Podcast “Within the Trenches” is all about 911 personnel - maybe you’ve heard. Nana P. C. Junkie
It’s dead 💀 Too funny. Great work please don’t cancel
This podcast makes me happy. The conversations between the two are so fun. Thanks guys!
I have so many questions about this podcast, but I can’t stop listening to it. I normally don’t like listening to people banter but these guys are funny. I’ve tried googling to see who The Operator is, but it remains a mystery. Anyway, it’s a pretty dope podcast.
I’m so happy I found this podcast. I’ve been needing something new to listen to and this is just what I was looking for. I like how they pause the audio and talk about what they heard and possible situations the caller is in, or how the operator talking to the caller is responding to the situation, then play the rest and talk about he call as a whole. It really makes you think about how you would react in that situation. Every call pulls you in and now I’ve caught up the all the available episodes and I’m ready for the next to come out.
Absolutely hysterical - I never write reviews but can’t let this one go - listen to them, you won’t regret it! Their banter is spot on!
Maybe there is a reason the host is trying to disguise their voice. But, man up deal with it. This ridiculous accent takes away from your content.
I LOVE this podcast! The 911 calls are incredibly interesting to listen to and the cross talk between Jack & The Operator is absolutely hilarious! Keep it up guys! And please free to make the episodes longer. I’m always wishing you guys would talk more because your banter is so funny! Thanks for doing this guys.
This format is perfect for this duo. I’ve listened to Luna for awhile and love them together on this entertaining show.
The two of you work great together. I love the Operator. I also want to add that I follow Luna wherever he is. Dark Topic, Crime Machine, your collaborations with other incredible podcasts. You're by far, my favorite writer & story teller. You have a rare talent I hope we never lose in this podcast community.
The calls are brutal but you guys are hysterical!!!
If you’re a fan of Jack Luna you have heard before some stuff he’s done w/ Sam - clearrllyyy the operator is Sam doing the most horrid accent. Please stop. Sometimes I can hear you slip up on the fake accent, just for the love of all things Luna please stop. What’s the point !? It’s not too late, just do your next pod in your normal voice, ppl might like you more. 5 stars bc I whole heartedly love you Jack. Although, I want to cry bc of sams fake accent. (Plus I’m pretty sure you annoy Luna too.) No hugs for you op/Sam❤️
Acreage in the dermal department 😂
Love the banter. You guys are great.
And the operator too of course! You guys have a good thing going, I enjoy your banter. I've also learned a lot in listening to these episodes, with random facts thrown out by the operator and when in doubt, confirmed by Karen. But really, I was pleasantly surprised with this podcast. I decided to listen when seeing Jack Luna was a part of it (previous Dark Topic listener). I thought listening to traumatic calls would be too heavy for me but hearing the stories around the calls are interesting. You guys do a good job at telling the stories, sharing interesting facts and providing a "shock blanket" for me with your humor. And can I just say, Jack Luna, your voice is sexy.
Jack Luna actually suggested that the reason a man (who was intoxicated 3 times the legal limit) stabbed his wife in the chest was because the 911 operator frustrated him? That’s not how personal accountability works. I wanted to like this podcast, but hard pass.
What a great podcast. The stories pull on all you heart stings, everything from hating the human race to the sweet 5 year old who saves her dad as he had a heart attack. Keep it up guys!
This podcast is the best I’ve ever heard. The comedy, the tragedy - it’s glorious.
this is the brilliant podcast ever.
I listened to the first episode leaving Portland Or and by the time I reached Northern California was left completely addicted and craving more! If I wasn't happily married, The Operator would definitely have a shot! I have grown to adore this guy! His character is a wonderfully balanced ball of humor and wit with this incredibly cute sensitivity that is topped off with a surprising amount of intelligence. Don’t change a thing about this show because Luna and The Operator are unstoppable! A MUST LISTEN!
Great true crime podcast. Makes me laugh out loud at times. Also makes my ride to work so much better keep up all of the great work guys and thanks.
Who is “The Operator”?? He is hilarious and I want to hear more of his various accents!
Very entertaining. GreAt banter
You guys listened and I’ve fallen right back in love!
Thanks for making me laugh out loud. Very entertaining!
I love listening to these two. Both are good story tellers with hard core backgrounds that keep a sense of humor while guiding a listener through a scary 911 call and the story behind it.
Love Luna🤍The Operator’s not bad either
The Operator & Jack are hilarious. Their banter is highly enjoyable. Also fantastic content. Keep it up, guys. You’re my new favorite (aside from Dark Topic, of course). Hugs!!
Great show! Jack Luna can read me anything... the other guy is okay too, maybe a little funny. Hugs
True crime horror and witty banter combine to create a laugh-out-loud podcast that I look forward to every week. Definitely one for you to Patreon-ize!
Please don’t “trim the fat”!! I love all the banter and off topic conversation you guys get into. The calls are interesting too!
This is such a unique show! True crime and comedy have never been done so well.
If the operator is Jack Luna the editing is genius level ... we all know Luna’s not a genius so what a dilemma!?!? JK Luna, love the show whoever the operator is!
I cannot wait for the next episode! I think Jack is the operator, am I right? Either way I love this show!
This podcasts brightens my day. I’m considered an essential worker so listening to this podcast helps me forget about what’s actually going on around me. It can get dark at times but the hosts are so freaking funny!! I’m trying to get the hubs to listen to it too!!
Love you guys!!!! This is one of my top favorite podcasts now!!! Keep it up!!!
Has there ever been a more award-winning show that has earned all of the awards like this has? Is there something g that is an upgrade to an award? This show deserves whatever that upgrade is.
I love The Operator! Jack is the perfect straight man. Calls are harrowing yet the banter is so funny. Unpleasant subjects presented with pitch black humor. One of the few podcasts I’ll sit down and listen to as soon as it appears my feed. Well done, Mr. Luna!
Dear Operator, I love you. You are a far better partner for Jack Luna. Much, much better than Mike Boudet ever was. This duo makes for a great show of comedy, humility, and heart with a dash of cynicism and the macabre. You shine bright like a diamond in a sea of ash. To those complaining of too much talking: Jesus Harold Christ. You’re missing the whole GD point if you aren’t even paying attention to the discussions being had here. Go read transcripts of 911 calls or look them up on YouTube, if 911 calls are all you’re after. You’re really not their target audience here, you robot of an imbecile. And last but not least, to LydianalaMode: YOU are terrible. I’d be willing to bet an army that you’re absolutely below-zero fun at parties. Go sit on a chainsaw and spin. See you next Tuesday! Luna & Op, thank you for giving us some insight and comedic relief when it’s needed so very badly. Love y’all.
I thought Chris D’Elia was the only person capable of making me laugh anymore. Until you, The Operator. And I love me some Jack. The perfect combo..should be called Dark Humor. Congrats on making Jack laugh too btw. That’s a tough ol’ bird. 🏆 Here’s another award. And another huge fan. Keep it up and I bet your fan base will hit double digits. 👍🏼
Great podcast, love the hosts, the conversation, the call dissection and of course the humor! I actually laugh listening to you both go back and forth. Thank you!
Really liking this podcast. Hope it keeps going. Wow some off these calls get to you.
Wish they would play more of the calls, instead of stopping so many times to keep talking to each other. Had to fwd through their conversations to finish the episode.
Currently listening to the 5/10/19 episode and I made the mistake of taking a gulp of my Mountain Dew and I now my nose is burning because I started laughing with the drink in my mouth. Thanks Obama.
The tapes are fascinating and often chilling and the two hosts are great! Very hilarious at times and funny quite often but they give the subject matter proper gravity and respect. I adore how The Operator ends each show! Hugs! 😁
This could be a good podcast without the endless dissection of the operator’s words and actions. Just play the calls!
Love this podcast! I love the back and forth between Mr. Luna and the Operator. Wonderful. Keep it up!
I think you guys are great!
I love the “style” this is done in. Currently binging on this until I get caught up! Keep them coming! Leave politics out, this is my escape from that insanity.
The fact that you guys sit there bashing 911 dispatchers is beyond horrible. Do you not think they have enough emotional trauma from their jobs already? In one episode you literally blame a lady who is trying to help for a crazy drunk stabbing his wife. Put yourself on their shoes, really disappoint in this podcast right now
This is probably one of my favorite podcasts! I am interested in the calls that I would normally never hear, but the banter between Luna and the operator is what really makes my day. When I listen, I literally laugh out loud at some of the things that are said. And I like that you don’t hold back your opinions even when they can be controversial. People can be so sensitive sometimes and I feel for them, but it’s just fun. I have fun when I get a chance to listen to a new episode. So thank you!
I love this podcast. It has the perfect balance of “dark topics” but also has commentary that can still make you laugh and has a great way of lightening the mood! I look forward to these every week!
Most of these negative reviews seem like personal attacks on the creators themselves. And they’re all wrong btw. Awesome story narration and writing. Love the 911 podcast episodes. The Operator is my spirit animal. Can’t wait for it to break off into its own show.
This podcast has it all! Great charisma between The Operator and Mr. Luna. Funny and interesting. The 911 calls themselves are jaw dropping. Love this podcast!
My best friend and I absolutely love this podcast and we are obsessed with The Operator! We need to know who he is 🤗
At first I thought the Operator’s accent would be annoying but nope!! Love this podcast! It’s entertaining and often hilarious. Wish there were more episodes for me to binge. Thanks for this podcast, guys!
Listen to the scariest, saddest, most gut-wrenching 911 calls all while laughing your balls off. Hugs.
The dynamic between Op and Luna is amazing. 911 calls are fascinating to me, so going through those mixed with some dark humor is a good balance. Proud to be a Patreon supporter!
I’m only 1 episode in .. and this is already made my top 5 favorite podcasts .. such a relief that new podcasts with great content are still being made! ❤️
As a female, with an expired Carry Permit, I don’t carry anymore and I have teenagers in my home. But I appreciate this episode. So very much. So many good points! Good job, Operator and Jack!
Being a long time supporter and fan I am impressed by Episode 8 of 911 Calls. You guys took on the controversial subject of guns. Op laid it out in such a way that showed all sides while providing extremely important information regarding training and education. This happened in my home town. Politics and media bias got in the way of giving Cynthia the deserved respect and admiration for her composure and bravery.
Why did you have to throw in your opinions of U.S. politics? I listen to podcasts to escape that madness! Please, keep politics out unless it specifically pertains to the subject you’re reporting on. Thank you, A Big Fan Who Wants To Remain A Big Fan
I love love this podcast!!! Just found it a few days ago and I have been listening non stop since we are still in quarantine. Thanks for the entertainment you guys are hilarious!!!
I was drawn into Dark Topic at the beginning because Luna is an incredible writer and stuck around because I love true crime. This is yet another hit that I wait for impatiently from one week to the text. Op is my favorite and contrary to popular opinion (as stated by Luna), “Are you ready for me to hit play?” is a highlight for me. Op is so charming that I listen to the ads. Luna, you’re a genius. ♥️Lauren @lc_stlouis
Edit 4/29/20: So glad to see things have worked out regarding separating the podcasts! I feel like it’s kind of a waste to curb the crime machine idea, but it’s ok. I can’t imagine the work that goes into making a podcast, but I do appreciate it. I like the banter between the Operator and Mr. Luna. It makes it worth it to listen to some of those calls...
Had to rewrite my review...this is for 911 calls. Very interesting and entertaining. Different! Love Luna, don’t know the other guy. Make a good team on this podcast.
I freaking love the operator. His Jr. Assitant is good, too. 😉 Officially my favorite podcast. Haters gonna hate. Keep up the great work.
I can listen to the horrific murders, tragedies etc with little to no emotion but those calls from kids make me cry every time.
...and I was hooked. Well worth a listen.
I love The Operator. I love the “Junior Assistant”. I love this podcast. #JackLuna4President
Is the operator married? I hope the junior assistant can keep up. Love the show guys!
These two are great... I wasn’t sure about it after listening to the first one but after trying episode 2 I was hooked. Love them... keep it going guys... nice change for true crime.. DONT STOP DO YOU WANT ME TO PUSH PLAY !!!
I think this is a comedy podcast..Jack Luna is a sweetheart and this is hilarious especially the one about the mommy blogger...ROTFLMAO!! Thank you for producing something I can laugh my butt off and relate too at once.
I love this podcast- really good dry humor 🤣
This is my new favorite podcast. I love everything about it; the 911 calls, the hilarious commentary that turns into a separate discussion on a seemingly unrelated matter. This podcast is engaging and compelling and I can’t wait for more episodes! Hugs.
The Operator is a riot!! I also love the breakdown of the calls. ‘What’s the heck?’ More please!
As a fan of Dark Topic......... Disappointed! Stop disparaging the US politically within your podcast. Stick to the crime and leave politics out of it. Very unsympathetic hosts regarding trauma and death. I don’t find a 3 minute 911 call to be an interim for non-empathetic comedy for the next 50 minutes.
Mr. Luna could learn a lot from the operator🙈
What unique podcast . The Operatormakes this a must listen for me. Then there Mr. Luna! A great combo!
Great idea wasted on these two. Sometimes disrespectful and mostly just rambling. Politics in a “true crime podcast”, c’mon.
This 911 calls show is not good. I’ve tried to like it, but I can’t. Dark Topic & Crime Machine are great. This one doesn’t hold a candle the it’s predecessors.
Hilarious and entertaining. I’ve already gone back an listened to the 5 episodes multiple times. Thank you for making this amazing podcast and please don’t even stop.
Great podcast. A lil more than just story telling. Gets personal on a deep level. In almost a bonding way. You get the host. Or you just don’t. But at least try it on for size.
I don’t like the background music during the dialogue of Jack and The Operator.. or the off topic minutes during the episode. I also don’t think laughing during describing the call or the background is appropriate. You know going in, they’re real 911 calls .... nothing to laugh at
Seriously. Highs and lows but two super smart and funny guys dissecting 911 calls. Prepare to be offended at times but, if u have thick skin you'll be fine. And you will laugh more than cry. You may still cry.
Its grown on me though, good job guys
This is my very favorite Jack Luna production. I have lots of 911 podcasts, but they are so unsatisfying because you never find out what happens. I sometimes look up the case to learn more. I’m glad someone else does too! Love it.
As a nurse and a true crime fan .. I love this show !! I need to go and search for the other podcasts that these two hosts are in ... but for now I’m addicted to this one .. so I need to get up to speed !!! Bless you both for making this whole pandemic deal a little less scary .. at least for a moment .. I can still laugh ,and smile and appreciate my situation, and concentrate on something other than what we are all going through! 🙏😊
I like the 911 calls. I think the stories are tragic at times but Op and Mr Luna make me laugh.
Update 4/10/20. So i find this “new” show, download w/o looking who is host. Immediately recognize my man Jack! Further investigate...this is where old Dark Topic shows are. Having a shameful lol, on the Travis epi. Seriously tho, it is heartbreaking. You & Sam are a friggin great match. Just who is Sam? Original Dark Topic review: I think some may take Luna the wrong way at times. He has a sharp wit you just have to get. His research is among the best and his scripts are very well written. Listen to the season wrap up with his guest, I was rolling, you'll get a good feel for his humor.
You get it right every time, Jack!
... with this guy. I have relistened from ep 1 (Speck) and his sense of humor as it relates to the victims is a bit off. I feel dirty listening to this. Unsubbed.
Show keeps changing and episodes continue to get shorter :(
The writing is excellent, they both have a sick sense of humor, and the idea behind Crime Machine is intriguing and more interesting than the same ol’ true crime schtick. 911 is also unique and illuminating, if a tad long winded. I appreciate the obvious hard work that goes into the production.
I loooovveee! This podcast! You two are so good together.. wish they were longer!
If you've got the right mix of dark and dry humor, The Operator is one of the funniest guys in podcasting.
Jack takes you off the beaten path with his original style and story-telling. I’m not usually one for banter but this podcast gets it right! Lauren LaGrange
The interaction between Luna and Op is the best
I was just listening to the Jon bonnet episode. It was so I'll researched that I turned it off three fourths of the way through. It's so gross when people decide to continue to spread lies, when the truth is out there. If you are in charge of a podcast that covers topics such as this, I believe it's your duty to report the truth. There is a podcast out this year that covers Jon bonet. Why wouldn't you research more? Because of this, I unsubscribed and word of mouth is strong as well.
Crime Machine has something for everyone. Make sure to try a few different episodes to get a feel for what they have to offer. If you want dark stories along with a personal connection to the host, then the Dark Topic episodes are perfect for you. If you want a less personal - but brutally fascinating - cross sectional study of a crime, then the Crime Machine episodes are what you’re looking for. If you want humor mixed in with your crime then check out 911 Calls with The Operator & Mr Luna. It’s both horrifying and hysterical! I’m a true crime addict, and this podcast satisfies the itch. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.
Wow, what a crap podcast! Annoying hosts with idiotic takes.
I’ve had an ongoing review with this podcast. And for those that don’t know where Karen came from, you’ll have to check out season 1 of Monstruo. It’s a collaboration Jack did with Mike Boudet and the genius writer, Tyler Bell from west side fairytales. Op, I know you feel special that Jack pulled you out of the crowd, but your normal voice was ok I guess on the murder Mack, etc... episodes. Now you just come off ignorant and racially disrespectful for being a white Mormon. Mormon cough cough. Jack, you do you. Dark Topic till the day I die. Can’t wait to get back on Patreon once Sam is out of the picture.
I’ll admit, it took me awhile to appreciate Mr. Luna’s style but I get it now and really like this fellow. He is a talented and thoughtful writer and speaks his truth unapologetically. You’ve gotta respect a person like that.
You never quite know what you’ll get with 911 calls, Luna and the Operator pick apart the ones they come across and really add a “mystery science theater” vibe while getting dark and gritty at the same time. Definitely on my weekly list!!
Crime Machine is one of my favorite podcasts to listen to. Especially the 9-1-1 episodes. I’ve loved everything Jack Luna has done and the Operator is hysterical, but please, for the love of God, get rid of the background music when the hosts are talking. The guys have interesting opinions and have some truly valuable information to share, but the crazy samba music in the background is completely distracting. Besides that, keep doing what you do best. And, I have to ask ......is the Operator’s computer wife Karen a coincidence or an awesome Spongebob reference? Either way....comic genius. Renae I
I love the 911 calls. I don’t like the filler music, sound effects…sorta starts to lose me, but when they say what you’re thinking, it’s so funny.
Crime machine is great, the 911 calls podcast are the best podcasts I’ve ever listened to. Love love love them.
The show simply isn’t the same with the operator. Wishing it went back to just jack and his readings. Get a writer or two and eliminate the operator. Chop chop.
The operator didn’t have his accent and at times I find he puts Jack down. I absolutely love Jack Lunas podcasts. What I don’t like about Crime Machine is the Operator. I would give this 5 stars if it was only Jack.
Jack Luna, you are unique and remarkable in your story telling. You immerse us in these sometimes disgusting and always enthralling tales in entirety. It is awesome and sometimes chillingly accurate. Thank you for all your hard work and for becoming these monsters for an hour or so.
The way the host tells a story with a healthy side of snarkiness is bingeworthy. Give this one a try, you’ll be glad you did.
I love the way Jack and the Operator dive into the 911 calls and break them down during organic conversation. I’m also considering a drinking game in which we take a shot every time the Operator almost forgets to use that ridiculous accent. Anyone taking bets on when he drops it completely? (Cmon, I tease!)
I just love the 911 calls podcast!!!!!!
This is absolute crap, who listens to this, really?
You guys are great at exploring each call and making it thought provoking. I bet you guys would be fun to have a beer with and solve the world problems in one night.
This is a great podcast but would be better if they would quit stopping the story to chat. I feel it’s going to get old very fast! There are enough chit chat podcasts as it is.
I like that y’all are taking feedback. The operator has become less grating to me. His new award winning 911 podcast won me over. Also glad to see Mr. Luna revisiting Dark Topic. Keep growing and improving!
Was sent this way after listening to the nighttime episode ft jack luna. Ever since monday i’ve been binging all the episodes... can’t get enough of this ish. I have tried pretty much every true crime pod known to man and am always feeling like they are lacking in a way i can’t pinpoint.... well whatever that something is mr luna and the operator have got it figured the F out. just like jordan says in that intro to their collabo episode “it’s like if jim morrison had a true crime podcast” it’s wonderful and mr luna you are something of a poet. love u guys and would die for u just hmu . -clever hans
In the 911 call shows Sam/Op goes in and out of his goofy accent so much. It’s strange. Why not just talk normal? I like the conversation back and forth about what’s going on but the voice is distractingly bad. Jack is great and I love the DT eps. I like the Crime Machine eps, too, minus the operator.
I appreciate Jack Luna’s creative experiments with story telling and true crime content since I started listening with Dark Topic. I very much enjoy The Operator’s dry sense of humor and the banter with Mr. Luna. Keep up the great work!
Dark topic is Deliciously delivered...without all the yawn worthy banter or soft core “comedic” fluff that has muddied most true crime offerings... Second review-Crime machine ... brilliant! That Jack Luna is a god damned genius!!! 911 is an intriguing and I like the concept I hope it continues to allow us to listen and that you and the operator ( that guy is a gem) develop if❤️ And so very excited to here dark topic is making an appearance We’ve missed you Mr Luna and your story telling swagger
Keep up the good work Luna!! So happy to have DT back!
Missed you!! So glad to hear you again!!!!❤️
Keep them coming. The bad call start, good call at the end format is awesome!
Really happy Jack is back with new ideas and a new attitude and all this newness. I really like the direction he’s going and I can’t wait to keep listening 😛
When I first started to listen to the 911 calls podcast at first I was interested. Then you went off on a tangent on how bad the dispatcher was and then went straight into politics. 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻 I didn’t even finish listening to know what happened to the children. This podcast is lame.
Love the show. Love the voice. Love the Operator too.
This new show was absolutely fantastic- more of these please! Love Luna/Operator in conversation.
You can listen to true crime where someone barely reads the script long enough to rattle off some details and fill in the rest with their off the cuff theories or... Be taken down a dark road, where you may not know where you are going to end up and be told the real story. Just let Mr Luna and The Operator do their thing.
Glad to know that there will be more Dark Topic style episodes. There won't be enough of them with Crime Machine taking up too much time but I will just wait for DT and savor them when they roll around. Luna had it right with DT but didn't know it.
I found out about this podcast thru Sword and Scale and Monstruo, Mr. Luna knows how to tell a story by adding personal experiences and not cutting on many details! Great job! Please keep it up 🤗
The podcast is good, but what I like most are the beats/music!!!!! What I dislike is his sadistic chuckles at the most inopportune time & mostly, his rants about not believing in God. I think if he feels like that, he needs to just keep his comments to himself. This is not the forum/place to interject his beliefs! Stick to the subject matter, will ya!?!? 🙄
This podcast is amazing. Jack is so creative and does a serious amount of research. I appreciate this podcast so much. Thanks Jack Luna!
Best of the best Jack! Who cares what the negative reviews, haters, bullies and boring people say! Look at it like this they go away as soon as they say something anyway! But you have your true fans with you 💯! I love both your podcasts and plan on staying right here! I know I’m not just speaking for myself when I say “you nailed it and are the best of the best”! ♥️
Please go back to editing your mouth noises. Great podcast before. This is unlistenable otherwise.
Love love love! Awesome Podcast!
This is a great show, a look into a real person with real thoughts, even a dark-side of thought on the human condition and the monsters within our species. Keep it up.
I cool with the dark humor. Good story telling.... but, Luna, I can no longer tolerate listening to you swallow your spit. The mouth sounds are distracting and gross. Can’t take it anymore.
I like this podcast but lately you’re making to many noises while talking. Please stop! Maybe its just me getting old but I find it extremely irritating.
You can hear every time this dude swallows The podcast is great you do good work Luna But the smacking of the lips and extra noises you create take away from your narration
I enjoy feeling like I’m having a conversation with Mr. Luna (great name, btw). The material is intriguing and horrifying. I love his commentary along the way. I appreciate the effort put into telling the story. Awesome true crime podcast.
I appreciate the way that you unfold the stories and the details you choose to include. Thanks for doing what you do.
I love this podcast! Everyone should give this one a listen
Dark Topic is very well written and produced. There are a lot of lesser known cases. My favorite thing about this podcast, though, is Luna's humor, wit, and insight, gleaned from personal experience. He's not silly, nor is he insensitive about such horrible subjects. But he has a certain ironic humor that I really enjoy. Even his ads are funny. I listen to all the top true crime podcasts, and this is definitely in the top 3 for me.
Keep up the great work!
I discovered this podcast by listening to Mounstro and has quickly became one of my favorite podcasts. Luna is an exceptional narrator and writer.
Okay, I don’t care what anyone says THIS PODCAST IS MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE. Now I don’t have social media but by listening to this I know people judge, well listen up back off. Luna is great. The opening to the Wannabe episode got me, like literally got me (and I been listening since the beginning but that’s a side note). Luna your mind man is out of the box and I need you to keep up this wonderful work you do. Forget what the people say, you’re awesome and I support this podcast.
I listened to the episode on Charlie Brandt and it was amazing!
The only podcast, to me, that beats Sword And Scale! You, sir, are amazing! Keep being real!
I started listening to DT after listening to Monstruo, I found that I loved how jack speaks. The emotion that is conveyed through personal stories is what really got me hooked. I know some people have complained about Luna Bin episodes but those are some of my favorites. Listening to Jack and Leroy joke back and forth is just hilarious, and they both have amazing insight into criminals and their crimes. I started listening on the apple podcasts app and then transitioned to Himalaya premium so I could have access to more content. It’s worth the $5 monthly to support such a great podcast. Seriously cannot recommend this dude and this podcast enough.
This podcast is the best! You can really tell how the stories effect you. Your details are great. I just binged everything that was available and am so happy I did. You tell the stories in a whole new way.
Love the podcast, love the story telling and the atmosphere. But I’m not a huge fan of ASMR when it comes to listening to the noise of a throat swallowing liquid lol (just one of my personal pet peeves). But nonetheless, keep up the good work!
Dark topic is my favorite podcast. I accidentally happened upon it and found a kindred spirit in Luna. The thing I appreciate the most about this podcast is Jack Luna’s emotional connection to the victims, the perpetrators, and the acts. He, like most of us, sometimes has to take a break from the disturbing events because of the emotional toll that is required when traversing a completely reprehensible road which has to be taken in a crime. It is a road which as a narrator must be taken to deliver the scene and truth of the crime. Jack also describes the offenders as they are. Sometimes they are bumbling, sometimes sadistic; but he always delivering a connection that the listener will form to the offender. Most importantly I have never heard any victim dishonored. I’m partial to the dark humor because in a way it is the only to deflect the tears from my face in the face of overwhelming tragedy. Keep up the great work. Take off Eyh, You hoser. Aaron in Council Bluffs
What you said in your latest episode hit me and forced me to say a few words. I listen to at least 12 plus TC podcasts and this is up there with the few I actually look forward to each time they drop. Usually, if I see a new episode come out from one of the 12 TC podcasts and I heard that particular serial killer covered on a different podcast before- 9/10 times I won’t listen. With dark topic I will listen 100 percent of the time because I’ll always hear something new and interesting. I just hope these “trolls” don’t stop you from being you and you continue putting out good quality. THANKS! and keep it up
Jack Luna is so engaging, a gifted writer and story teller. Raw and real with all the facts in place. One of my favorites by far.
Luna...🎶don’t go changin’🎶 YOU ARE GREAT JUST THE WAY YOU ARE! Seriously, this podcast is honest & to the point. If one does not like it, GET OUT, cuz you’re not going to ruin it for the rest of us. Thank you Luna.
Luna is genuine, devoted, honest, well researched, and well respected in a very tough business. Love to hear him...really. You know you're getting top notch "true" crime stories. Not filler with bad jokes. He IS the expression GET REAL!
One on my favs. Perfect combination of darkness and fact. Not the same old true crime 90% if these podcasts are
Love your story telling. Keep up the good work... and you’re right... this isn’t for everyone...but it’s for me.
Jack Luna is a great story teller. I look forward to his unconventional style, and sarcastic side comments. QUUUUUOOOOOOTE! This podcast has become my favorite Crime podcast. Jack please never lose your opening music. I call it the Zombie Shuffle. It gives me images of the undead in various states of decay dancing playing in anticipation of a new Dark Topic story. Oh and best delivery of a hair color commercial for women. Isn’t that right Karen?
I love listening and have been for a while now but the less edits version is nearly unlistenable due to all the mouth/ lip smacking noises and hollow sounding audio especially wearing good headphones...
Luna is a great story teller with a twisted and hilarious sense of humor while successfully making you as uncomfortable as possible without actually seeing anything or being part of the story in reality.
Just teasing as a Michigander- you have one of my favorite podcasts. I literally laugh out loud at work And I love your way of storytelling
Much goes into this podcast especially heart and soul. I appreciate Dark Topic and if you don’t, go away and find something that appeals to you. Long live the Luna’s!
Luna is a fantastic story teller. His sarcasm is a flare that adds comedic relief to the macabre content. Great speaking style, only issue is his Canadian ABOOTS & EH’s. Haha
Jack Luna is THE BEST storyteller alive. I’ve been obsessed since episode one and it just keeps getting better and better. I can’t recommend this highly enough. If you like true crime and all things murdery, this is the podcast for you.
As a newbie to crime/murder/death/kill podcasts I’ve run across a few that we’re good but a bit cleansed. Not here and that’s a good thing. If you’re a listener to this type of entertainment you’ll enjoy this podcast.
Love this show! And Monstruo!
Jack hits just the right balance of information on the crime and sensitivity to the victim and family!
A true writer, with a fantastic talent for narration, Jack Luna is my quality-over-quantity podcast. Not a single episode is less than perfection. Love the new format. Keep it up!
Luna doesn’t sugar coat it. Love the format. Gritty and raw. Don’t change the podcast. Keep up the good work.
Holy hell that was a great episode. One of my new favorites, as much as listening to horrifyingly awful things can be. The new style is great. I love the originals, the Lunabin and the new stuff complete with a sidekick. You’re killing it!
I love this podcast. Found Jack while listening to Sword & Scale. His laid back conversational style is awesome. You feel like you’re sitting with a friend. Keep up the great work!
Luna knocks his story telling out of the park. Keeps you engaged and if you’re not an over sensitive sissy, you’ll laugh at his humor..recommended 100%!! Bravo, Dark Topic
I honesty can’t remember how I first discovered Dark Topic...likely the cover art caught my attention when searching for interesting true crime podcasts. When I discover a podcast or one is recommended to me, I always go back to the very beginning of the episodes available and start listening from there. In doing so, I realized what a dark sense of humor Jack used in his telling of the crimes and how he also draws from his own personal experiences to help deliver a well researched and entertainingly presented case. His voice, the telling of the crimes and the quality of production have gotten better with each episode. He has recently added a cohost but my favorites will remain his solo episodes because I feel it’s so much more personally presented, received and has a deeper connection. Best to you Jack!
So glad I found your show! Well done!
This pod cast has a style all its own. I love it for its honesty. Hell half the time I honestly even enjoy the ads. I enjoy the unique sound of Jack’s voice and his way of relating to his audience. Keep putting out the good stuff. Sam welcome to the podcast I enjoy all the added content and the new side you bring out to the podcast. Keep up the hard work ❤️
If you are a snowflake, go cry somewhere else, this podcast is amazing
Bada** content and delivery. Jack has the perfect voice and tone for a great true crime podcast. He does a awesome job with his content as well
I have never left a review for a podcast until now. Luna is so much like each of us and he’s honest about it. He admits he’s not perfect and is not in this for laughs. He says out loud what we’re all thinking but don’t have the guts to say. Family man (marry her already!), dad, brother.... This guy makes you feel right at home. Jack doesn’t care if you love or hate him. He knows who’s opinions really matter. I hate when podcast hosts looks for reasons to insert their comedy, its pathetic. Luna is just Luna. He’s an amazing storyteller. I wish he’d write a horror book! He reminds me of Stephen king. I absolutely admire this guy. I think there’s a dark secret way down deep and I’m so proud of him for overcoming it via this podcast. As a person who has some buried secrets, fear, pain, betrayal, hurt, I appreciate his honesty. I’m really bummed I’m caught up. I’ve been binge listening for weeks and this podcast keeps getting better and better. Try it. You’ll be hooked by S1 E2.
I swear to god the last two mins of these episodes kill me. So funny. Love the bloopers, Jack! Watch out for those moths! 😂.
Feels like sitting in the living room and listening to my friend tell a dark story.
Jack Luna quickly pulls you in to the story with his story telling skills, love this podcast!
I am looney for Luna!!!! It’s like Christmas morning every time a new episode of Dark Topic releases! Keep ‘em coming!
I absolutely love Luna’s style and voice work, I first discovered him on Monsturo and quickly found this and have been hooked since.
I’ve enjoyed the show since the beginning and love the night guide series. Keep up the great work Jack!
The best podcast that exists in this genre by FAR. Luna is an amazingly talented writer and storyteller. And Night Guide, I dig it.
I’m a long time listener of Dark Topic and have always loved Jack’s approach to True Crime podcasting. His method is very unique and it clearly separates him from all of the other greats out there (Generation Why, Sword & Scale, True Crime Garage are some of my favorites). Jack takes a narrative approach and takes the facts of the case a puts them in “story form” giving it almost a “movie based on a true story” vibe. One of a kind! However, I’ve never left a review simply because it’s not my style (I’m lazy, full disclosure). I’ve been inspired to leave a review by the latest episodes subtitled “Night Guide” where Jack is trying something new and I felt obligated to give my feedback. It’s phenomenal! What he has done is brought on a secondary host, Sam, and added dialogue in between the narrative pieces aforementioned. So you still get the unique Jack Luna “story time” style breakdown of the case, but in between those parts, Jack discusses the finer details with Sam which gives it more of a Gen Why feel. BUT (and it’s a HUGE but) Sam and Jack do NOT pull the punches and aren’t afraid to offend. So I’ve been calling it the R-rated Gen Why, which, in my opinion, is a major compliment. Highly recommended!!!
This show's success is largely due to the host and his edgy narration style. His realistic, often cynical point of view is refreshing to me personally. Even the filler material is entertaining and I actually LISTEN TO THE ADS when he reads them. Normally I automatically fast forward, but on this podcast they are seamlessly inserted with no change in volume or cadence. The hilarious digs directed at the most dispicable of criminals make me burst out laughing in the middle of the office =D P.S. Not sure about that reeeaally long ad break recorded by a different dude in a recent episode haha... =)
I love both the traditional Dark Topic and Night Guide episodes. You and Sam are inappropriately hilarious, which is nice when ur dealing with such heavy, dark and disturbing topics. Can’t wait for more.
The best there is. This podcast is unapologetically the best around. It’s uncomfortable at times but I believe it’s supposed to be. If you are comfortable listening to murder and mayhem you might find yourself as a topic in the not so distant future. The show is a reflection of the human condition.
A fantastic podcast really pulls you in.
I’m usually a pretty quiet consumer, but after this recent episode, I thought I’d say hi 👋🏻 One of my favorite podcasts. Jack is an amazing storyteller. I love words (that’s a thing) and he often has me swept up in how eloquently worded his stories are. Thank you for putting your hard work out into the universe and for sharing your talent with words and passion for true crime with us. I feel like we share a common mindset, I like to know what humans are capable of, both good and bad. It’s a way of protecting myself and my kids and I believe that a healthy amount of fear is necessary to navigate this world. Let the paranoid population unite. Thanks from Colorado 🏔
Great story teller. I like how he makes jokes to lighten the mood. I like how he gives his opinion without apologizing. I wish him and Mike still had a podcast together.
This is one of my favorite podcasts. Perfect mix of humor and darkness.
It’s so good. If you like true crime and other creepy stuff you should listen. Great storytelling.
I thought the night guide episodes were great, Sam reminds me of a corny uncle who probably wears Star Trek pajamas but none the less glad to have him. Keep up the great work!
Thanks Jack. The intro this week spoke to me. I too am looking for those humble folk. They don’t seem to exist too much anymore you’re right. Just wanted to say “hi” back.
Best. The best. The beast? No but seriously your writing is THE BEST of any podcast I’ve listened to. I currently subscribe to over 100 shows. Congratulations! Oh jeez, an exclamation point, but how else to express in typewriting just how exceptional, rare, sometimes profound, always lucid, and centered AND sympathetic your podcast is. Thank you for you. Good luck to you, your family, and your association/hosting of other podcasts. You are a rad voice...haha, typo but true...you are a rare and needed voice in the storm. LISTEN AND SUBSCRIBE TO THIS PODCAST. THE HOST DESERVES ACCOLADES AND SUBSCRIBERS...BUT YOU OWE IT TO YOURSELF TOO. YOU DESERVE THIS.
Good shi t
Luna, .. well done .. ..sir!
Luna’s voice is the best in podcasting. Period. His writing is artistically precise, and his genre of humor is unmatched. His disdain for the selfie-taking, self-obsessed mass is perfectly articulated, as I share these opinions.
Jack Luna is a fantastic writer and podcaster. I listen to a LOT of true crime podcasts and this is one of the best! Luna balances story-telling (personal or otherwise) and old-fashioned reporting with grace and humor. Regarding reporting, Dark Topic is also probably one of the best-researched podcasts that isn’t floated by a legion of associated writers. Spoiler: some of Luna’s best episodes AREN’T “true crime” serial killer stories! Luna, I love your work and I am thrilled with the uptick in releases lately! I am a first grade teacher and single mother of a young child— I rely on podcasts like Dark Topic to break out of the monotony of kid-friendly books and media all day, every day. Sometimes folding laundry and listening to excellent podcasts like this are the only “adult” conversation I enjoy on a given day! Keep it up!!!
The show was great at the beginning when Jack would tell the story, but now that he invites others on to make useless jokes about the story, it’s gone downhill. I liked this podcasts because it was straight forward. Now it’s hard to get through an episode without cringing from the lame jokes his guests spout off. Please go back to the original form.
Love Love Love the new format!! Night Guide is informative, fun, and scary listening!! Keep it up 👍🏼🥰
It can be difficult to listen to these horrible crimes but if you don’t line the delivery, go read about on Wikipedia! The opening is my favorite part. I was unsure about the new format (additional host). His method is lighter and less direct but it fits nicely. Good balance. Great show! Keep moving forward!!
Jack Luna was amazing with his work in Monstrous and he continues to master his craft with this series. It’s dark, twisted and shows how terrifying the human heart can be. Warning this isn’t for the faint of heart or overly sensitive!
Love love love x a million Dark Topic and have recommended it to all of my friends and even people I don’t know. But please go back to your original format when it was just you and you alone, JUST JACK🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻‼️
I was excited to find this podcast. I love Jack’s voice and story telling style and to this point he has always been respectful. Most of his humor has been self deprecating....until The Mad Chopper. To be fair, it was primarily Sam, the new co host, who was being tasteless and disrespectful to the victim and there were points where Jack seemed uncomfortable with Sam’s comments. If Sam stays and continues in this manner, I have to say goodbye to this podcast. Pity, as I love listening to Jack.
Couldn’t even finish the “mad chopper” episode and it’s not because I have a weak stomach. Making fun of a teenage girl getting her arms cut off is not funny at all! This guys think they’re funny but they’re just sick.
This new format (I’m assuming it’s new) is grotesque I couldn’t finish the last episode. These aren’t jokes. Like... I used to loveeeeeee this podcast. I’m going out of my way to tell people I don listen to this anymore so they don’t think I’m completely depraved.
After listening to the 7/13/19 episode, where you two are making jokes about a young girl getting her arms chopped off, I figured out YOU ARE SICK. What were you thinking? Wait, sick [email protected] like you don’t think. I assume your patreons will keep you afloat and you don’t need me, but...get some professional help.
I listen to a couple other true crime podcasts and I really enjoy Luna's style. He combines a nice mix of riffing and narrative flow. Update: Love Night Guide, keep it up!
Tedious, exaggerated and poor narration. These guys just like to hear themselves talk. I’m all for tasteless jokes when they are funny and smart. These two guys are sophomoric and moronic. The Mad Chopper episode has finally caused me to get rid of this terrible podcast.
Probably best true crime podcast
5 stars for Luna’s perspective, honesty, and steeze. I’m usually a “Just the facts” type who doesn’t care for the authors opinion but what can I say? Jack’s my dude. I feel like I’m in the bar that pays the smoking fine every night drinking bottled beer cause the taps never get cleaned. It’s refreshing to hear someone who sounds like my buds and me swapping stories. Not always the best audio (but I listen on headphones on the train soooo) but still a great listen.
I usually love this show, however I’m hating the “mad chopper” episode. It sounds like two drunk driving frat guys cracking horrible jokes on someone else’s tragedy. Disappointed.
If you like to hear a guy make jokes about a fifteen year old girl being raped and having her arms chopped off, this is the pod for you. Jack Luna is a arrogant douche lord who thinks others misfortune is funny. He’s the type of guy we all would love to punch in the mouth.
I like a lot of Luna’s work but the amputee jokes in this episode were awful. He spent a lot of time in some recent episode yapping about how he didn’t believe in making crime a jumping off point for comedy but in this episode he’s let the “ego stroking” friend Sam go for it whole hog at the expense of a rape & dismemberment victim. Cute but I can get the “dudebros sniggering” formula elsewhere. Adios.
What just happened? Love you buddy, but I don’t see the point of this last episode.
I listen to a lot of true crime type podcasts and this one is consistently one of the top ones. I like his personal honesty when he occasionally sidetracks. He keeps it interesting and it’s no BS. Unsure at first, I’m glad I stuck with it because it’s consistently delivers entertainment without being cheesy.
As treacherous a story as Mad Chopper is and as callous as some of the humor along with telling it ..(no judgement at all I enjoy hearing the satire and lightness presented with so much terror).. you and Sam had me cracking up with the ‘black out’ tangent. I always enjoy your writing, analogies and voice inflection; Personality and dry humor a massive bonus! Don’t stop podcasting! I look forward to every story and wish I had such a talent to do the same. Thank you for making the uncomfortable comfortable and allowing me to drift off into a world that makes mine feel relatively ‘normal’. 🤘🏻🙌🏼🤘🏻
should not make jokes about the victim having their arms cut off. He is not funny. Someone should punch him in the face.
First , I’m super upset that there aren’t anymore Monstruo episodes!!! Second, I love listening to this podcast, the more real, the better!! I enjoyed listening to you and mike , it kept my attention completely!! I listen to u on my speaker and my son said “You hate when I use bad words, but He, (Jack) is always saying bad words!!” I said “ he rarely says bad words!” I gues I don’t hear them and only hear what you’re saying!! Hahahaha keep going! I need you! Lol
Love the show!
I love listening to Jack Luna talk
Dark and perfect. Keep up the good work man.
This is a top three staple for true crime podcast listeners. I love the slightly less formal format, it makes the content more ingestible. Nothing better than Jacks delightfully jaded perspective, and I mean that in the best way possible. Definitely staying paranoid with this one ;).
Part therapy, part true crime, part dark humor, this podcast is not for those who look to be offended. I’ve laughed and cried and been terrified by this podcast. Love the sweet sounds of Jack Luna’s voice and that he’s willing to voice the dark thoughts we’ve all had at some point. I also love the Closer to Shore episodes dealing with cancer. Not all dark topics are crime. The host’s personal experiences and struggles really touch me.
Jack Luna narrates these true stories so well. He paints the pictures with not a lot of filler. Editing is great, music cuts in at perfect timing. As a former musician I really appreciate that.
Love this podcast. You’re doing a great job and sounds better, more refined, and entertaining as the episodes progress. Thanks for the hard work and please keep it up!!
Topics are on point, but why is he reading this as if he is narrating a 1940’s movie? Monotone cadence boring.
If you’re one of the many displaced S&S true crime fans then this style of podcast is for you. Jack Luna is an entertaining and excellent host to guide your adventure into a spooky dark world that’s all too real.
Seems trite to say thank you for the Bedlam episode, but I can’t think of what else to say about such genuinely personal disclosure. What you say in this one is unique and I just want to express my gratitude for being brave and real with your experiences.
I started listening awhile ago. Stopped when I listened to all there was. Now I have enough to binge listen at work. I love that it’s not just a telling of a crime read directly from reports it’s a story but unfortunately a real one. Keep up the great work Luna !!!!! P.S I don’t even skip the ads because those are even great to listen to.
Such a good podcast
I listen to many podcasts, and as for my reviews, well let’s just say I spent as much time as it does to mark a few stars and get on with my life. It never occurring to me to spend more time than that, besides what podcaster is going to take time and read it anyway. But once I stumbled onto Jack Luna & Dark Topic, that all changed... Now I meant what I said in the title of my review, so I’m not going to sit here and try to explain to anyone reading this what has made me a follower of Jack Luna & his show but I know this....it was instant! This podcast is what podcasts are supposed to be. Podcasts were developed to get the information out there, with a host that isn’t afraid to talk his audience like adults. Share the uncomfortable things that happen in life, all without apologies. That is the gold you get when you listen to this show, each and every time. So, Jack Luna, please keep on researching and recording, the world truly needs it. Thanks, Melissa
I have been listening a while, and realized I had never left a review. Jack Luna is a pleasure to listen to. His research is thorough and his writing makes listening to him incredibly engaging. I appreciate his own personal thoughts and reflection, which are always on point with whatever dark topic he has chosen for the episode. Even his gallows humor never ever comes off as disrespectful to victims (something which can often happen in true crime podcasts), and is a testament to how skilled a writer he truly is.
Has become by far one of my fav story tellers!
This has quickly become my favorite podcast. Jack's writing and earnest approach have really won me over. The stories are terrifying but not without heart and I appreciate Jack's vulnerability in sharing stories from his life as well. A+
I’m still morning the loss of Mike on Sword and Scale..... So I had to move on... I love Luna’s sense of humor! Well done!!
Love Jack’s cadence and storytelling ability, it draws you in. Great stuff
The podcaster really is open and shows his morals when speaking of cases, in particular the Jack Kevorkian episode. I’m extremely thankful for your time and work putting together this podcast. Been a true crime fan for about 9 years now, and this podcast is a hidden gem I have seemed to stumble upon ! -Eric in The Great PNW (Pacific Northwest)
Jack Luna is an exceptional story teller. Describes the people and the stories in a way to give you a clear image of what you are listening too.
Easily my favorite podcast
Jack Luna has a wicked sense of humor, he picks really interesting stories and I never miss an episode.
Really well done
This is the only podcast that can keep my attention for a whole episode. It’s very unique and well thought out. Each case is well researched and we’re given much more information than in any other podcast. Absolutely love it though (:
I love his style and love, love, love his story telling. He has a very unique perspective
Love me some Luna! He keeps it real.
Really like how you tell a tale of darkness in people .
I love the honesty of the host. The podcast is different than most but I love it. Above all I feel the humanity of the the host comes across. He is just a father, partner and man trying to make sense out of the evil in this world.
Love his take on life, great storyteller!!
Luna! Your storytelling is compelling and backed by an irresistible speaking voice that pulls you in. I appreciate your hard work and dedication to the craft!
If liking this podcast makes me a lunatic, then I’m ready to be thrown into the asylum. The research of each case is superb, and the stories are presented in a fresh manner that make you feel as if you’re there as each horrifying event takes place. You feel like you’re in the perpetrator’s mind, seeing through their eyes. You also feel the fear and pain of the victims, and anguish over their misfortune of crossing paths with their assailant. I appreciate Jack’s honestly with himself and his audience. His voice has a lived in quality, and both it and his delivery are perfectly suited for these tales.
Hey Luna, I love that you keep it 100!
I LOVE Jack Luna. He is so honest, tells the crime stories in true gritty detail, but also can laugh at himself and talks to you just like you are a friend. I was listening to Crime Junkie and I love those girls, but this podcast is better by far. I just discovered it and can’t stop listening. Give it a try. The gravelly voice and inside jokes will win you over! Highly recommend!!!
Really love this show. He’s a great voice in a sea of podcasts.
Jack’s dark humor mixed within the dark true crime stories is the perfect mix. Never taking himself too seriously, always approaching what the victim endured with proper respect, looking at the criminal with appropriate shock, empathy and disgust...well done. Looking forward to more!
Love listening to this during my workday, plus you have an amazing voice and ability to tell a story! Loved the anniversary episode with your brother, gave an insight as to you are outside of dark crime.
Jack cracks me up listening to this podcast. I anxiously await the next episode.
Luna’s gruff voice and storytelling style may not be for everyone. He also has a habit of punctuating particularly gruesome details of violent acts with seriously dark jokes. But I argue this habit is one of a deeply empathic host who spends a vast amount of time researching disturbing stories for our entertainment, and who maybe realizes that after hearing said details, perhaps we all need a break? That’s my take. But in this age of offense-rage, who knows? Dark Topic is one of the best True Crime podcasts out there. It’s well-written and smart. Definitely worth a listen.
Jack Luna’s storytelling is completely intoxicating while his perspective is honest, profound and raw. The instant he begins speaking, I become transfixed and know that I am about to experience something significant. Dark Topic is not an ordinary podcast that one just listens to while going about their tasks; it is a real experience that demands attention and focus. And god help the person who starts talking when I am trying to listen to Jack!
Jack has a great voice, and the writing for the show is done in such a way that he's narrating the story as it unfolds, not just reading from Wikipedia. 10/10
I absolutely cannot say enough about how much I love listening to this man tell a story. The inflection in his voice while adding his own thoughts and the laugh you simply can’t avoid joining. This man seems to be an old soul, his voice tells it’s own story. I love love love Luna!
I love your podcast, and the way you tell the stories . I laugh at your sarcastic remarks almost every time. Keep up the good work!! I am always checking for new episodes 🤗
Love the way Luna tells a story. Listen on my ride home from work. Look forward to every show.
“It cares not what it does for you, but what you do for it” (referring to Richard Ramirez’s “dark passenger”
I’m 100% sure you make this podcast for me cuz this is my shiiiiit Thank you
This is the true crime podcast I’ve been craving. Jack’s voice, storytelling, dark ambience, intelligence, and diligent research come together to form a listener experience that is unparalleled. When he does break from the story, it’s always with a witty quip, personal experience, or generally insightful thought or side note. I love his attempt to understand the killers psychology while still acknowledging that they’re human garbage because of they’re crimes. Jack provides a show that truly delivers on all levels. As the listener, we get vivid imagery, detailed facts, very intelligent and well thought out intros and exits from each episode, and honestly we’re just graced with jack luna himself. He’s a true gem of a human and I’m so glad he decided to start a podcast. Every time I see a new episode on my feed I’m so stoked that I listen to it immediately regardless of what I’m doing.
Jack is awesome and gives a great telling of these historical monsters. But good lord Jack, tone down the long intros. I usually skip them.
You ever just there minding your own business then out of know where you say “this is a Robbery “😂👌
My only complaint is I wish J.L updated more
I love this podcast. It easily surpassed the popular true crime podcast that plays entire 911 calls to fill space. Keep it coming. This is my new favorite.
I really enjoy both the stories, the depth of the research and the delivery which oncludes the host's very dark sense of humour.
Thanks for being real and putting out a great podcast!
The host is great. The stories are well told. Keep them coming man.
Have listened for a while and enjoyed him in Monstruo. I was happy to see a new episode and was not disappointed. It was very good and Jack was very sincere and transparent in his closing statement. Keep up the great work.
So glad jack is back. Thanks for the perfect podcast.P.S. LOVE THE HONESTY!
Near perfect but he seriously needs to Google the proper pronunciation of really basic names. He seems to put so much effort into every other aspect of the podcast that all the mispronunciation is just baffling.
I know you’ve been working on other (wonderful) things, but Luna you have been missed. You don’t know the excitement I get whenever I see a new episode of yours pop up in my feed. I keep finding myself returning to your home page hoping my phone was just not notifying me of new episodes, only to be faced with the grim reality of nothing new. So obviously I’m beyond happy to hear you’re back, with new episodes beginning in April. Great (often obscure) stories told through wonderful reporting, thorough research, and the way you say “qqquuuootte” when quoting someone makes me so happy. Thanks for all you do....Keep on keeping on man...
Great story telling, Luna is a word smith!
Luna is one of the most boring podcast hosts to date, right up there with that stupid lady from the Cold Case Files podcast.
But life is darkness and light. I may not like some episodes - but I am adult enough to appreciate the craft and skip stuff I can’t handle. One thing: it’s always real.
Great episode, as always. Just FYI....Elgin is pronounced with a hard G....like a ‘gin’ & tonic. I’ve lived in the Chicagoland area most of my life and don’t think I’ve ever heard of Dory. Thank you again for always bringing forward a great podcast consisting of the more obscure stories and names as well as the larger knowns!
He’s awesome! Something about the way he tells a story....
Where are you ?? Miss the podcast!! You’re back!!! Thank goodness!! I’ve missed you and your brother!!
Everything from the subtle (yet powerful) storytelling to Jack’s voice perfecting each scenario.. just an all around awesome podcast. Great stories. Love that Luna throws in a personal opinion every now and again. Definitely get super excited when I get the notification that there’s a new episode. :)
Love it! So much but don’t drink your beer in the mic. 🙌
He prattles on to a seamless well done bridge to his topic, that is clever and some people might like that. I would not want it to change, I think he's authentic but just a bit too tough guy for me.
I’ve missed listening to the podcast. I know you were working on other projects. I’m glad ur back!
I’m so happy Jack Luna is back with Dark Topic, I was really missing this show. 10/10 love the writing, his voice and the overall tone of the podcast as a whole. Great job!
My ears miss hearing your voice!!!
Beautiful research, excellent writing, calming voice, masterful work. Mr. Luna has been a favorite of mine in the podcast world since my brother introduced me to Dark Topic one night during a two hour drive. We sat in silence in the car, goosebumps on our arms as Luna told the story of the candyman killer (my favorite episode). Since then, I listen to Dark Topic almost every night before bed. He mixes stories of his life in with the podcast, which adds a great personal touch. He also promotes other true crime podcasts, which I think is great! I really hope this podcast gets as big as The Last Podcast On The Left (another favorite of mine also introduced to me by Dark Topic). I show this podcast to all of my friends and I always await the new episodes! You can tell that Jack Luna puts his heart and soul into this podcast. Very well done. I aspire to be as good of a writer as him someday.
Jack Luna’s voice and personality ring Authentic in this unique true crime podcast. I am a true crime fan of all mediums and styles and dark topic is easily one of my favorites. Absolutely worth a listen ! 5 stars
My favorite true crime podcast. Keep up the good work
The host is so poetic in his style of story telling that I am absolutely captivated!
WOW! Great Podcast! Awesomely Sick and twisted tails with so much detail. So much so with some I can’t keep listening. So very interesting. Keep up the great work. I look forward to more and telling all my friends. Thanks!
Jack has a unique voice among true crime podcasts. He’s a talented writer and seems to be a genuine human trying his best. It’s a big confusing podcasting world out there (apparently). Through a series of taps and ratings we as an audience get to weigh in on the quality of a person’s art. Let’s support artists who are self aware, passionate about their work, and human enough to screw up and get screwed. Jack brother, you seem like a good dude.
I agree with others that he needs to be more sensitive about his comments about women and victims (example: a dominant mother may be a reoccurring theme in some criminal childhoods but the inference that it’s a cause is not even proven. A dominant father would have prevented the criminal from killing?) But he’s a hell of a story teller and great writer. I appreciate the intellectual aspect of his podcasts - his personal introspection makes it rich. Really love this one. (I’m a female listener. )
Jack is not insensitive, he’s REAL. I enjoy listening to this podcast more than others for that reason. He doesn’t leave out details or thoughts that some may find “insensitive” and I personally appreciate that. It helps with actually understanding the horror that the victims actually had to experience. 5 stars all day every episode. Keep it up jack I’m almost caught up keep putting out more episodes!
Listened to the first 4 episodes. Just want to hear the story don’t want to hear your opinions on anything or listen to you talks bout how awesome you are. Dark poutine let me down by advertising this podcast
I heard about Dark Topic when the preview for Monstrou came out on Sword and Scale and thought I'd give it a chance. I have been hooked ever since. Jack Luna does an amazing job with this podcast. Can't wait for more.
I know you from monstrous which is one of my favorites and I love your voice... sexy
The thing I like most about this podcast is the realness of it. I feel like a friend is telling me a story, not a person reading a script. His stories are interesting and his story telling style is fun to listen to. I don’t mind the less polished earlier episodes. Everyone starts somewhere.
I’ve listened to the various other podcasts....last on the left and I appreciate Luna’s “get down to it” attitude. I listen for the details and he doesn’t fail to provide.
I love the way this dude talks. Not only are his storytelling skills vivid and poetic- but he has a sense of humor about himself and the way he talks, that make me chuckle out loud. By listening to Jack Luna’s podcast, i get a sense that he is a real person. He doesn’t hide who he is. That makes it so easy to just listen to episode after episode. You’re a good dude, Jack. Take your time and keep it up.
Jack you had me at “you see all kinds of things out on the road, tires slumped against abandoned farmhouses, hunks of bloody, hairy meat that shadowy beasts retreat from as your high beams approach, garbage bags, which to my imagination at least, hold body parts. All of it punctuation left over from untold stories.” Dark Topic; 11 June 2018; Invisible People;Episode 16 At times masterful and other times it’s like listening to your brother or friend tell stories. Often crude and seemingly insensitive, you know that underneath there’s a deep soul who feels too much and hides it with humor while covering the Dark Topics.
First episode was a steamy pile of opinionated horse manure. Get your weight up before boxing with the heavyweights. Listen to LPotL and learn something
Awesome podcast. Jack knows how to tell a story like no other. His incredible voice and cadence is second to none. The best part of Jack is he is a down to earth person that is easy to relate to. His writing is excellent. I love when he includes a chat once in awhile about his personal life and how he became who he is today and his ability to push forward with his writing.
I’ve listened to every true crime podcast out there, and this one, Sword and Scale, and True Crime Garage are the ones I keep coming back to. Couldn’t recommend this one more.
No new episodes, just short promos for new projects. Meh.
I’d love to know where I can find the archived podcasts so I can listen to them as well.
This is right up the same ally as Monstruo which I also gave a negative review for. The overly disgusting narration of animal sex and rape jokes make this truly disturbing and horrifying..and not in a good way. I listen to about every true crime podcast out there so I’m used to the grim content but those podcasts are tasteful and respectful towards the victims. Not so here- absolutely disgusted Luna felt this was acceptable. Unsubscribing from everything he works on.
Jack Luna you are great! You put humor in your podcast which really takes the heaviness off the darkened & evil of the topic. I love that you have a sense of humor! Please keep doing what you do!
Let’s talk about what a great writer Luna is! As someone with an extremely dry and misunderstood sense of humor I can say that I relate to this human on another level. In a world of sissies, it’s refreshing to see that there are still a few people who aren’t offended by words and don’t spend most days in their parents basement triggered by everyone. It’s called Dark Topic, what the hell do people expect? I’ve read some of the reviews on here and it’s like people thought they were coming to listen to Mary Poppins singing A Spoonful of Sugar. You sir, are an amazing story teller and have left me searching daily for more after binging all of this and Monstruo. <— hope I spelled that correctly. Please tell me there are more episodes coming on this channel!? Either way, thank you for the gems and best wishes for success for you and yours.
Jack Luna is an expert chef in serving up a medly of fleshy tales, always fresh, along with dark red wines chained up in cellars. His humble irony cuts like ready kitchen knife. The Marlan Brando of contemporary podcasting.
I love this podcast. It’s definitely different, but I appreciate the uniqueness of it. If your sensitive and are easily offended, don’t listen. If your prim and proper and don’t like a laid back podcast then don’t listen. I myself am never disappointed in his topics and style of narration.
As a thriller/horror podcast aficionado, I dub Jack Luna’s incredibly sexy voice, perfectly eloquent delivery & impeccable writing cause tune in and satiate that nibbling curiosity of evil we all long to be whispered in our earbuds. In addition, he’s kind, real, honest and everything else that makes you want to drink a beer with him, high five is girl & squeeze his kid. Haters gonna hate... so take the negative reviews with that same grain of salt you would otherwise when dealing with whiners. And listen for Shore. His voice is arresting and irresistible. I need more Shore. ...So, yeah. Hands down, this is the best podcast... ever. LuluFoxtrot approved. (LB)
Heard about your podcast since it was mentioned by another podcaster and got hooked
Don't listen to this podcast becuase this guy is sure to piss you off. It's like a fourteen year old man who can't quite get that girl he always liked decided to create a podcast. His thinly veiled sexist comments throughout ruined the entire podcast. And I typically give a lot a grace on crime podcasts. Also, his super creepy laugh is like he's hiding in a closet watching you....
I listen to a lot of true crime podcasts. Everyday. This is probably the worst one I’ve ever heard. The guy’s delivery is super creepy. He chuckles at really weird times. His rhythm is off. He involves himself in the stories too much but is weirdly distant from the violence.
The constant cursing, dudes, ya-knows, likes etc. come across as ignorant and immature.
Forget the thumbs, I give this new obsession of mine two middle fingers up! I laugh at the strangest things in the middle of work and look like a crazy person. Thank you Luna. I love this podcast... don’t take life so seriously.. he laughs at himself just as much as he laughs at everyone else. Love him, love the podcast.
Excellent stories, great writing and storytelling. I really enjoy Jack Luna’s personal touch on the storytelling. The way he laughs at himself, says what he wants to say and how he wants to say it, and interjects stories about his own life make this podcast unique. One of my new favorites. Definitely binge worthy!
This is an excellent podcast done by one hell of a writer. Luna researches and provides sources. His narration is amazing in depth and sometimes a bit chilling. It has to be. The author is shining a light on some of the darkest and most misunderstood people our world has yet to understand. He also muses in himself, his family, his past. This would be a great guy to know irl. Someone you could ask advice and perhaps learn more about him as a means of understanding yourself.
Listening to this creep is like listening to a serial killer/rapist talk about other killers. This dude needs help. I really wanted to like this one!!
Listen to red handed podcast and compare it to this tool who’s trying way too hard. If it don’t come natural you ain’t got it.
I’m hooked! Love the introductory personal stories as a prelude on what’s to come as well as the artful storytelling throughout the show. May not be for everyone but I find Jack’s sense of humor to be hysterical(!!). It’s flavorful and I love that he cracks himself up haa! If you’re finding him to be a bit dark- I’d like to remind you that you sought out a podcast detailing gruesome murders...not really the time to go sensitive. Thanks for making my crappy hour commute seem like 20 min Jack Luna!
What a likeable anti-hero of a host! The grim humor and staunch unsinkable honesty in this podcast is palpable. I feel like Jack Luna is blowing cigarette smoke out the window and waxing gory-philosophical about these dark topics while I make dinner or wade through another scowling grocery run. The personal interest that Jack evokes through his lambasting of these monsters is what keeps me coming back. Thanks for being you. And congratulations on all your opportunities and success.
I really wanted to like this podcast. I listened to a few episodes and grew disenchanted with the host’s personality. He comes off as arrogant and I really tried to get past that but could not.
Haunting, creepy, amazing! Makes my skin crawl and i love it. This is a must listen for any true crime junkie!
I listened and thought at first ok. Story is ok but Luna is somewhat annoying, then as it progresses in the season Luna becomes more annoying and talks like a clown. Come on just talk and give the story instead on the constant punchline up and down. Blah.
The show needs some fine tuning, but the storytelling is great.
Jack Luna has the sexiest voice in podcasts!!!!!! It also helps that he is an excellent writer, love this show!
This podcast is well worth your time. Jack Luna is an amazing storyteller and he’s got great empathy for those involved in violent crimes. I’ve listened to each episode he’s ever released and I still can’t get enough.
I can appreciate the hosts ability to be unapologetically himself and his ability to tie in tidbits of his personal experiences into the stories without derailing the show. I get some strange looks at work when people walk by and hear your podcast playing and it’s sparked some interesting conversations. Keep it up Luna!
Jack Luna has so MUCH compassion for victims and is completely repelled by the creeps that offend. Especially the bullies (listen to ‘the curious case of Randall Hopely) that prey on weaker/younger people/animals.. people who don’t get you Jack, are not able to hear you. Thank you so much for your insight, compassion and sense of humor even in the darkness, I appreciate it😍
His ‘preaching’ or ‘words of wisdom’, got to be too annoying.
I love the way Jack Luna tells stories! He is hilarious and tells horrible stories in a very compelling way and not always from the same perspective as most crime stories. Highly recommend.
Funny host with a good voice, keeps it to the point. Great true crime pod.
Originally is was attracted by Jack’s style which makes him sound dangerous, but I quickly fell for his sharp, veiled sense of humor- I get it because it can be a bit sick like mine. Getting better all the time. Keep up the good work Karen
I heard about the show listening to Sword and Scale. I will definitely enjoy binge listening to every episode. Keep up the great show. -Matt W.
The informal nature of the host is awesome...he says in the beginning, “I want to talk to you like I talk to my friends,”. I was instantly hooked. Phenomenal work.
You can easily find other podcast covering most of these cases. This guy is just too hard to listen too. If you do decide to listen, skip the first 3 minutes do you don’t have to hear his nonsense and rambling about weird personal life things.
I’m a huge fan of Luna and his approach to incredibly morbid yet fascinating topics. Everyone has a ‘relief valve’ for when things get really dark. Some prefer cold and sterile detachment, which makes for a dry discussion. Luna uses humor, which allows him, and us, to dive into all of the disturbing content without completely scarring our psyches. If you don’t appreciate that approach, this might not be for you.
I really. Hate how the. Host likes. To Drone On. And Include. Periods. After Every. Couple of. Words.
This podcast is perfect! Straight to the point and ever so slightly dark humor but not to where it becomes annoying. Do yourself a favor and listen to this podcast right meow!
Love Dark Topic, love Luna, can’t get enough of!
Podcast has potential but the host sounds like he’s reading straight from a script. No energy and doesn’t keep the attention of the listener
This show is rad.
Love Jack Luna’s storytelling! One of my top 3 favorite podcasts.
Jack Luna is a marvel at research and narration. This is a great podcast and I love his Canadian spin on things. Keep it up
I’ve listened to them all, Luna is the best.
I listen to many true crime podcasts and you know you’ve got something good when a patron keeps coming back for more; listening to episodes over and over again between dissolving interests in other podcasts. Luna is a talented writer and storyteller. His crass & edgy narration and commentary is not for the faint at heart. He presents an authentic, raw, and excruciating reality of these true crime cases while bringing you inside the experience as opposed to hearing it. Get ready to be offended, fascinated, satisfied, mortified, inspired, and spooked. High fives to Luna and his team for this jaw-drop success of a podcast. Thanks!!
This is the exact type of jackassery that I’m into
Finally something as good as sword and scale. Although two different deliveries, they are both similar enough. Good sense of humor and honesty. Thought he might be a cornball at first but I don’t think that at all after listening for a while. Can’t wait for the collaboration on January 19th
I could so make out with Jacks voice. A genius writer and an extraordinary storyteller.
I think what I may admire most about Jack is his honesty. Feels like the kind of guy I would choose to hangout with. He’s authentic. My favorite pod dude! 👊🏽
Don’t listen to the negative reviews and please give this podcast a listen. The best way I can describe this podcast is by saying its like listening to your best friend tell you a true crime story at a bar. The cases are very well researched and Jack really tells a good story. Yes he cusses a lot and he’s not as “formal” as some of the other true crime podcasts out there but that’s what makes this so good!!!!!! He doesn’t hold back! He’s not boring! I love his format and really appreciate the fact that I feel like I’m listening to a real person talk and not a robot just reading words off a paper. It’s well worth the listen. I love it!
In my opinion the best research of any true crime podcast. Jack and Leroy put out some great Patreon content too in the padded room. -JD
Excellent wit and great listen.
This is brilliant and insightful. Darkly beautiful and truly an intellectual journey. Would listen to this all night.this man is a poet laureate and a national treasure ...seariously.listen.
So, side-note response to another review: Jack, please keep the political opinions coming because I truly can’t respect anyone who doesn’t throw an occasional jab at #45. These stories are so well told and organized, and the level of personal commentary and humor is well balanced, professional, and appropriate. For us “gore” fans and true crime obsessies, the style of this podcast is reminiscent of the blog conversions that can be found on various Reddit threads. Just enough humor thrown in to give human mortality and suffering the middle finger that it deserves. We can’t take it too seriously, or the devastation of it all might come crashing in to our conscious awareness.
Great podcast Jack! Can’t wait for this new show with sword and scale and westside fairytails!
It’s a relatively good true crime podcast, not as good or well written as Sword and Scale, but it’s a decent listen. If Jack could leave his political opinions out of the podcast, and keep his jabs at Trump to himself, I’d probably enjoy it more, but hey, Canadians are known for being soft pussies, so it’s to be expected.
Ep1 calling out LPOTL!!! Insulting another podcast , not to mention One on the most popular is not cool!! I listen to several different podcasts for different perspectives on sometimes the same true crime. I felt like this was a cheap shot. Sorry dude, this fan is loyal! “Hail me” 🙌🏼
Really a great podcast.
Just discovered Dark Topic and it’s quickly becoming a favorite. It’s dark and black......like my soul. Crybabies and Whiners need not listen.
Jack Luna delivers this podcast with a wonderful roughness, humanity and first class story telling. There are enough crime scene details to raise the hackles of even a hard core true crime fan, but Luna knows where to draw the line and avoids reveling in the gore and macabre. Great stuff!
Spot on. Great story telling. Great world view.
I love this podcast, it falls in the same category as sword and scale, true crime garage, and generation why for me. I see a lot of people criticizing insensitivity.....lighten up people lol. It’s a podcast, he has a relatable humor to anyone that would be able to conjure up a true crime show. I enjoy this podcast it makes my time pass fast at work and while driving.
Dude...I’ve listened to all the “best of the best” true crime podcasts out there and your show has quickly jumped to the top of the list. Your storytelling ability is top notch. So,so very impressive. Excellent job! You are the Walter O’Dim of podcasting ...that is a compliment! Thank you bro!
Jack Luna is awesome. Just wish there was more. Went through them all in a couple days and now going back through which isn’t boring at all actually there’s so much in each ep. can’t wait for the upcoming project whatever it is. Thanks for the fun
Luna is the man! I love it all. Some of these 1 star reviews are hilarious to read. Can’t take the heat? Get out of the kitchen.
One of my favorite
This is another awesome podcast by Jack Luna.... I Love it. Well done....I can’t wait to hear the new project he’s got going with Mike Boudet of Sword & Scale. It’s sounds super creepy. Yeah !!!!
