Well researched and enjoyable to listen to.
All the talking heads were wrong on everything. They just want apiece of the pie in tax dollars. As the middle class diminished, they were cashing in, at the price of America. China will soon rule, and China does not care if you claim you have rights. See Tieneman Square. Weirdly the left is advocating for less rights thinking that will give them more freedoms. Blame the educational system when it happens.
For instance, President Trump should have been impeached, ok , on what grounds?
I listen to a lot of Audio Podcasts while driving, this podcast is the best hands down.
Ever notice how the most intelligent people tend to stand back and remain neutral? Dan smartly exposes our corrupt duopoly while the mainstream talking heads remain entrenched on their respective sides - preparing for war. Well, they might just get one.
Dan tried very hard to maintain his usual candor. Yet, he employs much “blame on both sides” rhetoric. I’d rather not know the stories he tells himself to make it ok to be silent about the clear and present dangers our democracy. I know he has an audience to placate. So, I’ll forgive him. He is a modern genius. This wasn’t his most inspiring work.
Its not important you agree with him, it’s important that you think about why.
We need your voice of reason in these times. Now is your chance to help get us on the right side of history. Thank you for your work.
Listening to this monologue is like listening to a crazy uncle who goes on and on without getting to the point. Twenty eight minutes in and I was so bored I had to turn it off.
And with him a little bit of my sanity. Don’t stop the show. We need you now more than ever!
Thanks for publishing. Please continue to share. I dug through my 100s of subscribed podcast to find yours. When I refreshed the feed and the episode was there I was excited. While I can understand the apprehension, there are many of us looking for common sense. You are allowed to make mistakes. Please continue...
The discussions in pubs by the founding fathers was tempered by their acknowledgment of a common goal. We need to acknowledge our commonalities. Freedom, respect, and civil responsibility would be a good start. Thank you for your thoughtfulness on a divisive issue.
Thank you so much for overcoming your perfectionist tendencies and lending us your thoughts at a time when we need it the most.
Love this well thought out perspective on current events. Glad to have Dan back!
Dan Carlin is by far my favorite creator. His history show is bar none in quality, and this podcast shares that incredibly high standard. I have yet to find a podcast which so exquisitely voices brilliant ideas, calculated concerns, and heartfelt care for a country that most seem to forget on both sides of the aisle. This podcast is best introduced with a quote from Von Moltke the Elder: “What is your objection to the style of my guide? Surely it can be well and carefully and interestingly done in that form. Often when I have come upon a heap of ruins I have thought, What may not have happened here! What events are connected with these remains! The guide-book form has just that advantage over scientific inquiry, that the latter drags the reader mercilessly through dreary wastes of minute dissertation while the former strolls pleasantly with him through the country, remarking only on what is grand, attractive, and noteworthy... As I have remarked in my introduction, legends will not be excluded...” This podcast is an excursion with a brilliant man to the cavernous ruins of American politics and government.
I’m with Danieli, we need a source of logical thinking to explain what’s going on. If not you, then who? I’m a new fan, blasted through Hardcore and working on the Addendums. Now on hearing this CS I’ll definitely go back through the archive. Thank You!
Thanks for coming back with a new CS podcast. It is exactly what we need to be listening to and learning from in these dystopian days! Please do more.
Thank you for coming back.
Would love to hear from you soon (June 12, 2020), there’s quite a bit going on at the moment.
You said you don’t like to repeat. I can understand that impulse. But... you are of the age to be a “teacher”. Even if it is “boring”. It is just biological. You (personally) also need feedback. You would be best as a radio jock, with guests. As for your back (unbroadcast) catalog. You might get your wife to edit them. Or simply try to publish them as is. You are a master of “the long form”.... very rare in this era of instant gratification. For reasons you clearly state. You say we all need peace makers. We DO. Thanks for finally putting one episode up. This is a good one.
Awesome show! I wasn’t sure I shared any part of your slightly apocalyptic possible American future until you said “soda pop”. Now I’m terrified.
Dan, disregard the haters on here brother. Anyone who is saying you didn’t go for enough to the left of the right is missing the point. Keep up the good work. People stuck in the middle like me need it!
Used to love common sense objective opinions from both sides. I’m not sure if it’s a combination of his Twitter and the podcast but the seemingly more liberal agenda is not appealing. There is always two sides and now I feel that you get one side of the story. It’s a shame honestly because I really wish I could listen to this again and feel like he would be objective to both the right and the left.
What's this a new Commonsense? How long has it been - only two years. It seems like forever. You remark about the problem of not even having a common/agreed upon point of shared knowledge to base a conversation. Frustration - you betcha! We all run into it and are repeatedly stunned. Most of us are too busy making a living to keep up on all the information floating around out there - to be able to remember (if we ever knew) what is true and what is not or better yet - able to identify the spin. I didn't listen to your podcast because I agreed with everything you said or wanted to argue with you. I listen to your podcast sometimes to remember things forgotten, to learn things behind the scenes I didn't know, to learn a different point of view, and to just plain receive some food for thought. I also pickup reading ideas from your podcasts too. Please do not stop creating Commonsense. One of my favorite of all time - #236 mentioning the book The Trap with Sir James Goldsmith and NAFTA.
It’s great to hear your take on today’s issues. Two years is too long for a little common sense.... but thanks for all the Hardcore History podcasts you have put out in the meantime!
You’re the adult in the room. I want you to Step. Honestly tell both side why there wrong. How they should get along. Which side you think Will try to talk it out with you. Which Side would pulled out a gun and starts A school shooting? You’re both sides exit. One side wants to make the World more fair. The other one just like hurting people. If I’m wrong why attack minorities. Why back The systems that destroy The environment, necessary regulation, and individual rights preferring corporation?
An extraordinary and unique viewpoint. Perhaps the only media voice I feel I can trust.
Love these podcasts. So rare to have someone who looks at the whole picture and can communicate so effectively.
A few years back I discovered Dan Carlin's Hardcore History. As I'm sure most of you know, that series is incredible. As it turns out though, I also discovered Common Sense at the same time and tended to enjoy that more. I was devastated when Dan went away after the 2016 election but I understood. I was then elated when he came back last month. So elated that I bothered to come here and drop a review. I really enjoy Dan's personal take on things. I find it resonates similarly with my own and he feels just as lost and confused in today's environemnt as I do. Those of us "without a team" often feel sad and lost, I think. Please keep it up, Dan. Your return was great.
Dan, I think you are in an elite group of public intellectuals who are publishing today. You have an honesty and depth that leaves a mark in this time of shallow, knee-jerk response. Keep it up! You mentioned Arthur Brooks a few episodes ago and his stress on love as the way past our current mode of talking past each other. I think you have something there. Your relentless truth telling is a key. You love the USA and our allies. So, you tell us the truth as you see it. And with a light touch. Well done.
Dan, I’ve missed your insight. You have humility while presenting thoughtful conversation/ideas. There’s never a feeling of being patronized. Listening to the latest episode was like relaxing in a mountain spring after trudging through mud (mud in this metaphor = not having Dan Carlin around) for a year. Thank you.
Dan, thank you for this. Please try to balance your insistence on the quality of releases against our communal need for the calming effect of your thoughts. Even your casual comments would be most appreciated in this time of social distancing and partisanism.
Glad to hear from Dan. Any day with a new Dan Carlin download is a fantastic day. Also glad to hear someone I’d consider left of center concerned about media bias.
Really thoughtful presentation. I would love to sit down and have a truthful discussion about today’s topics. It’s so hard to really get the true story without bias anymore. Dan’s very valid point about it’s often narrowed down to either “Nazis”or “Lib tards” makes it hard to have any informed discussion. Thank you for keeping it honest Dan Carlin. Your pod casts are great!
Glad to still get some CS content. I’ve missed it. You def didn’t sound “rambley”
I love Dan's Hardcore History series, and I used to like this podcast. But recent episodes have simply been rambling. What's your point, man?
This is best assessment of the biggest danger in our political divide. Thanks to Dan!
Everyone should listen to this episode. It might save the country. Dan is a voice of reason in an age of insanity.
So happy to have an new episode! This show has been missed.
Right on Mr Dan! You tell it like it is...thank you..REALLY missed your Common Sense...especially in this day & age...please keep them coming!
Sometimes I wonder if Dan is ever going to get around to making his point... but then by the end I see the method in his madness... he weaves a convincing argument / explanation / warning. He says the brilliant things you thought YOU said over beers but then can’t quite remember later... OK I give WAY more credit than that... he’s really fun and interesting.
Awaiting the next drop!!
Dan, please don't leave us like that ever again. The show must go on.
Thank you Dan, You pronounced Oregon correctly. I’m aroused. Bless your soul and keep up the great work 😊
What an amazing show! Soooo happy for a new show! Your voice/oppition is deeply needed right now! Thank you! Sharing this with everyone!!!
The world is in need of a leader who exudes common sense. Keep broadcasting more. Now is the time to preserve freedom rather than give into panic in the chaos.
C’mon Dan. We could always use more context on this crazy time we are currently going through. Even if it is only through a historical lens it’d restore some sense of sanity. Much appreciated.
The best there is in measured and insightful political commentary. More programming should be like Common Sense. I generally can't endure much political radio but can't seem to get enough of this one.
From: Me To: Dan Carlin I have been waiting to hear your voice. Even if it’s imperfect in your own eyes, please keep these podcasts coming. Sincerely Me
Keep me coming Dan
...it isn’t very common I’m very glad this is back. The last review was untrue so I’m writing this to take its place.
This is the voice of reason.
So spot-on, so timely, and so full of common sense! I love this podcast, and I am excited that you have finally released another episode after a few years. Please keep them coming. Some of us feel exactly the same way that you do about the current political scene. Let the haters hate, and keep speaking common sense for the rest of us!
Dan, you take a couple years off and start the conversation by saying “if we can’t agree that Trump is the worst president of the last 60 years, then we can’t start a conversation.” I think you alienated a large portion of your audience when you made that statement.
Everyone should listen. What else is there to say...
Loved the perspective, Dan. Thanks for updating one of my favorite podcasts. It’s a somber reason for the material, but your perspective is much appreciated.
Politics, culture, morality, everything is addressed through the frame of a rational conversation.
Spot-on analysis of the implications of our bad habits of uncivil discourse! We need to hear this Dan, so thanks for putting it out there. As usual, Common Sense comes with humility and humor but with deadly serious and clear-eyed conclusions. Glad to hear from you again. Please keep it up! The world is clamoring for common sense and we are absolutely “in it together.” Ian Fisk, Juneau, Alaska
We have certainly missed you insigt! Keep it up sir and thanks for the episode!
Thank you for putting out new content. As always you give me so much to think about and ponder on. You have an amazing way of finding and examining the root of the problems confronting us. Thank you, it is much appreciated
I wish every American would take an hour and just listen to Dan with an open mind...
Welcome back Dan, we missed you! Now put your big boy pants on and get back in the game.
Please don’t stop. This perspective is so important to me
So glad to hear your take on our current situation. I’m a nurse in the largest ER in New Orleans. As a way to cope and as an attempt to try to make some semblance of sense out of everything that has been going on, I’ve been incessantly reading articles, journals, and science blogs about COVID-19. Seeing this episode pop up on my screen brought me actual joy. Thank you for contributing your thoughts. Your take on the world has been sorely missed. Thank you for jumping back into the fray.
Thank you! Keep em coming. And release the ‘throw away’ episodes that don’t meet your high standards. I can assure you they will meet ours!
I love the podcast and hearing you talk Dan, but please dont patronize me (us) about how you dont want to patronize me (us). Telling us how much you know and how much you know almost nobody else knows, how you get asked how to be better informed... then you go on for an hour. Maybe you should consider putting out an informational podcast 2 or 3 times per week to update us “simpletons” who can’t figure out fake news from the rubble.
So happy to see this show return to fill the vacuum. Hoping there is more to come in the near future!
Can’t thank you enough Dan for clearly articulating the way I also feel about the state of the nation. Please keep up the great work.
Thank you Dan, worth the wait. Your perspective is much needed and appreciated. Not many people have your broad ranging historical lens, and even fewer are able to contextualize the current moment in the scope you can
It doesn’t need to be perfect. It just needs to be sober, thoughtful and honest. Thank you for your insight.
Everyone should listen to this. Whether from the right or left, if you come into this with an open mind then you will walk away with things to think about. You will learn something and be better for it. Thanks Dan!
Thank you so much for this insight! Really well done.
I’m happy to see another common sense. Even if it’s a dialogue about how you are conflicted about what the variables are just keep on talking. Even if there is no conclusion your method of thinking is important as an example. It’s a very logical freedom oriented at the same time George Carlin-esque. Keep grinding it man...
I haven’t even started listening, I’m reviewing simply out of excitement for seeing a new episode post on my feed. Dan, your most recent book was great and I’m so glad to see you still at it.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Dan! How happy I was to finally see a new episode out after almost two years! As always, it was insightful and much needed.
Thank you Dan. 🙏
The world is a better place for this unexpected dose of common sense, just as it has been for all before. You don’t have to save the world to do good. I know that you are an artist aiming for perfection, but know that many side with the mythical Ben that this last was a good show. It was better than anything available elsewhere, more insightful than many a book, and certainly worth letting out into the world (if a lone reviewer is to be believed). I hope you release more in the days (months? Years?) to come, these are trying times.
Can’t tell you what a smile this brought to my face. I love all of his podcasts but to see Common Sense back is wonderful!
Thank you, Dan. It's been far too long. I hope for more Common Sense episodes but can't wait for the next Hardcore History. Stay safe & healthy out there. You are appreciated.
Dan please come back. We need your voice, but also for you to take care of yourself. Your thought process, clarity, common sense, and humility is the antidote to the polarization and poison in the current climate. Even when you are wavering and unclear in your perspectives, your voice helps provide honesty and truth when most give in to the madness. Thank you for being one of the most unique Martian perspective and honest advocates for common sense over the years.
Keep it up Dan. We appreciate you.
Thanks for bringing out a new show after such a long break. I have missed your ability to shine a light on topics and clarify a subject in ways that both ramp me up and calm me down.
I always appreciate Dan’s viewpoint. In the swirling media crap storm we live through day in and out it’s nice to hear someone trying to think through issues as opposed to planting there feet, plugging there ears and spouting a pure ideologues point of view. Glad to hear Common Sense again! Keep it up!
One of my favorites!
In a time when no one is honest and partisan hyperbole is the common language, Dan Carlin delivers exactly what he advertises: Common Sense. I’m a long time subscriber to both of Dans shows, and this Common Sense episode is right on time and extremely on point. Hoping for many more in the near future!
I love this Podcast and you have no idea how happy it made me to see the Common Sense banner pop up in my feed.
Thrilled that you are back.
So happy hear you weigh in again even if it’s just for one episode.
I haven’t even finished the episode but I’m so happy to hear you again.
What preachy hypocritical bull crap. Stick to history or do try and toughen up a little
Best thing that’s happened in 2020 thank u Dan
Love all his podcast!!
...to compare perspectives.....the big problem today is that there is no middle detent. The mainstream media starts 70 clicks left.
I donate to this show monthly, I think it's extremely important that people listen to this kind of insight. You'll be hard pressed to find a more objective view anywhere. Some may call him a cynic or conspiracy theorist, but Dan is always careful to explicitly lable his opinions as just that, and doesn't claim to have all the answers. He puts things in a broader perspective and raises questions and points you won't see anywhere else. Trump or Hillary? Dan says neither, and that's just common sense. i miss him dearly
We miss your common sense!❤️
I know it’s a weird time in history. That’s exactly why we need some common sense.
Help us Dan Carlin...you are our only hope.
Not sure if you will read this Dan. If you do, I really could use a dose of Common Sense to illuminate the events of this world. Thank you,
I’ve only listened to the last two episodes and that’s all I need to be convinced that this is the wisest voice of our times. Dan, you need never make one more Common Sense. You’ve fulfilled your service. But get cracking with Hardcore History, please. I’m jonesing for another Supernova in the East.
Awesome podcast . Where are dan ?
two years and no new commen sense. But just listen to his old shows, they basicly cover everthing current. I just wish Someone as intellient as Dan could run for President. His old and more recent podcasts are still just great. Don't forget to pay Ben
Dan Carlin is an amazing political commentator. He has depth, thinks critically, and as a result brings an often under-represented perspective to the world of politics. Dan, Part of me is happy that you haven’t been posting episodes. The media seems to be in hysterics in regards to Trump’s presidency, and it has become difficult to trust “journalism” in general. I’m glad your podcast hasn’t been tainted by any of it, to whatever extent it would have been. That being said, it would be nice to hear your thoughts, to hear a sane voice comment on such a controversial presidency. It’s difficult to do adequate research (see: trust issue above), but I would trust you as a sanity check on my own thoughts. Those of us who find politically interested critical thinkers a rarity among company could use a guiding voice. Things seem so potentially catastrophic, yet so overstated at the same time. It’s impossible to list all the ways Trump seems potentially dangerous, yet his supporters roll their eyes at the mention of any one. CNN was caught helping Clinton win the primary, yet progressives trust the network’s word as gospel. Nuanced positions are rarely staked and often mocked. I hope, at the very least, you post some retrospective podcasts when it’s all said and done.
It’s been nearly 2 years since the last episode. Mr. Carlin changed my life and I’ll always be thankful for him opening my eyes to see what is really important, but his flock needs him Back
Really missing Dan’s thoughts- it would have been nice to have some balanced commentary over the last couple of years given the huge partisan divide.
Great podcast but disappointed Dan hasn’t made one in almost 3 years.
Would love to hear your insights again
There has never been more of a need for this show. Insightful commentary about what’s actually happening.
Heard your frustration and fatigue in a recent show regarding the subject matter within this podcast. Please come back, always enjoyed hearing your views. Seemed sane in this insane world.
I’d really love to hear some of your common sense right now...
I love your content and bipartisan insight and we could use more of it. Thank you for your inspiration.
Please come back. I think we we this now, more than ever.
Really wish he’d bring it back. It’s an amazing show
We need more of this!
Please come back, I loved your long view of things beyond 4 years. Love your hardcore histories.
Come back. Please.
I have listened to this show since “The Wisdom Deficit”, which must have been more than a decade ago. I’m forever grateful for Dan’s insight and way of thinking and I miss this podcast
Please start this again! Common sense is becoming so uncommon these days!
This show has common awesome.
We need you now more than ever, Dan.
We miss you
We miss your voice of reason and understanding
Ppl need your perspective more than ever these days
Where art thou??
Dude, I literally need this amazing podcast in my life.
A podcast like none other. Especially for those who like to look at the big picture, the slow moving trends, the fundamentals of American government. Please come back Dan!
We don’t need you to comment on the weekly state of things, we need you to discuss where our country is headed and bring the country together. I don’t want to hear you to talk about the Mueller report or the Biden and the Ukraine. I want to hear you talk about about the path of the American people and the country as a whole. We really do need you.
Where is our common sense in the craziest of times? :(
I will pay $20 per episode to hear Common Sense again. I know you have some things to get off your chest.
What is this guys IQ and he should have a t.v show not a podcast, Also how does he know all of this stuff. His IQ is probably 3000
I hope so. Dan has a complete alignment with my thoughts on modern politics. He’s got my vote for president, when he decides to come either come to his senses, or, he loses his mind.
Hi Dan - I miss the podcast but I do understand. I’d love to see a monthly update where you capture a few areas of interest around the world to discuss. It wouldn’t have to be the hottest topics because you know those are getting 24/7 press but I’d love your perspective back in my life! Thank you for all that you do. ☮️
Love the podcast and listen to it often because my family has been split politically. Father is conservative and mothers liberal. I struggle to not fall into one or the other specifically falling into the liberal streak as I my own interest tend to be a bit more towards there. However your point of view politically are far more palatable for me and my brother and after listening for 3 years we have been thinking more centrally and think far more critically on our issues, (finding the greatest common factor in our issues). We live in interesting times and even as your words are showing there age and they will be less applicable soon. We need a little more from you Dan. I understand and sadly know what it’s like to be burned out, but we need you. So many things at this point where it feels like we can’t navigate some things and take actions. You have a platform, a base of users, and good ideas. You can just talk about the things that stand out to you. What you think may happen or what you find amusing. That’s all we can ask of you. Hope to hear from you sometime soon.
Missing the podcast.
This has been the only podcast of its kind, and I can only wait until the next episode. If I had to choose between this podcast and Hardcore History, I would choose both.
Dan, where did you go? The world needs your perspective.
Looking forward to the next time the drums beat on
We need you now, more than ever Sir. It’s time to put back on the mask.
It’s like the one person i could agree and disagree with equally, without fawning or fighting...common sense please.
Please come back, In the current climate of hyper partisan politics it’s so refreshing to hear a some one talk about political topics in a way that’s not laced with partisan manipulation. He can and does actually point out when both sides do good and bad things. Everything dan makes is amazing. Thanks for restoring some of my faith in people.
I habitually add and remove podcasts from my feed based weekly whims. Although there have only been two episodes in two years, Common Sense is the one constant in my feed. Mr. Carlin, I hope you come back to Common Sense. In this controversial time, your voice is needed.
We need youuuuuuuu
Dan is easy to listen to and allows you to center your thoughts and allows rational and critical thinking to resurface. Do I agree with everything he espouses? No. But do I value his insights and viewpoints? Absolutely. Do yourself a favor and add Dan to your weekly conversation, you will be a better human for it.
One of my favorite podcasts. Please Dan, bring this back!!!!!!
Listening to Dan work though an idea helps me use my own brain. I can hear him think one way, entertain another, reason through it. It’s great. Thanks for helping me think my way to my own conclusions, it feels good.
Dan always says in a self deprecating manner that he doesn't have anything of value to add to this political conversation and that he isn't needed at this time based on what's happening i our country. I would really argue against that and say it's exactly why we need to hear from him. I would love to know what he thinks about the really progressive candidates with the Democrats, such as Elizabeth Warren or Sanders who talk about taking on the money in politics. It's truly been the Republicans, especially Mitch McConnell who has really fought to make campaign finance opaque and unlimited when he went against the McCain Feingold act and while he wasn't successful initially, even with his first lawsuit McConnell V FEC, he eventually had it reversed in the Citizens United ruling that his attorney participated in. What do you think of our political times? I need your point of view please. I beg of you!
All of Carlin’s shows are phenomenal. Profound and insightful, there isn’t another person I’d rather listen to. To the reviewer calling Dan a charlatan based on neutrality vs. objectivity, your petty bitterness is rooted in your politics. Perhaps you should turn to the mirror.
Dan was my navigation into opening my eyes to politics. Made me trust my gut. I miss his wisdom and insight. He gets people and doesn’t let his pride get in the way of sharing his knowledge. Dan is some one that I look up too. He admits when he’s wrong and always tries to have a multi sided view of any particular issue. He’s that teacher you always wanted during lectures. Please come back. The country needs your voice. We need to know we’re not alone.
In an era of uncertainty, fake everything and commoditized fear, this podcast grounded and uplifted me more than any other media. Thank you Dan for all you diligence, perspective and hope you bestow. Come back soon.
When I hear talk about common sense I know I’m about to be assaulted by biased perspectives and Dan doesn’t deviate.
Going through Chemo so didn’t listen to this one when it came out. I agree with most of what you said. But if proper law enforcement have a legal warrant, wire tapping kind. Then they should be able to get into Apple phone. But only with a legal one time warrant. They now have a way to get into them now since this podcast.
When Dan was producing content, I thoroughly enjoyed it, but since Trump took office: silence. One podcast in almost two years. At a time when it seems common sense is under attack in an unprecedented way, he stopped producing content. Maybe when/if the country returns to the status quo, he can return to complain about it.
I love it, but wish I could get it more often.
Absolutely wonderful story telling. A joy to listen to. Thanks.
If we had the ability to give one person a permanent anti-aging serum, I would vote it should go to Dan Carlin. He probably wouldn’t want it (he would rather have a time machine) but he has an obligation to mankind to keep producing Hardcore History!
Only downside is that it doesn't update that frequently!
Years back I got into Dan Carlin’s hardcore history podcast. Immediately, my attention was caught by seeing his name on a new series. This is my favorite podcast and I’ve only gotten to episode 2. Common Sense is an objective approach to presenting perspective on cultural, societal, technological political, etc. complexity. Parallels to our behavior and history proving that we benefit from removing our bias to see the big picture.
If I was president I would make a cabinet position just for Dan.
I’m surprised that Dan successfully can talk about politics without causing me to have a panic attack. I think he keeps this from being too far on any side while not so middle of the road nothing happens.
Where are you Dan, come back If you consider yourself a socio-political observer and thinker your media consumption is not complete without a listen to Dan. Terrific commentary on current events and the broader spectrum of alternative policy in regard to our nation and our world.
Great show I wish it came out more often

WhT are your thoughts on the dog and cat meat trade? China Vietnam South Korea not only consume they torture thousands cays dogs and several other animals in the most unimaginable ways before they kill them.
Dan’s Hardcore History podcast is legendary and Common Sense is excellent as well. New CS episodes come rarely these days, but the older episodes are still solid material. The previous show is great (and explains why the show is less frequent these days) and his show on the US healthcare industry is one of my favorites. Fingers crossed we can get another show in the not too distant future.
Everything I’ve listened to has been great just wish there was more of it.
Rare though they may be, I look forward to releases of Common Sense. I always end up having to take a moment to think when the show is over. Please keep up the great work and keep putting out this show.
Used to be a good show. Did the election break Dan? He always pushed for an outsider but now can’t handle it when we elect one? Come back to us Dan! We like listening to your thoughtful viewpoints and arguments whether or not we agree with them. Miss you. In the meantime everyone go listen to Ben Shapiro instead- smart, funny, logical and sure to hurt a lot of snowflakes feelings with truth. Woody
Is There Anything He Does Short Of Amazing..? Nope.. He’s Truly A Great Mind. Glad I Stumbled On This Podcast. Dan Is The Man..
I wish he put them out more often. I’d like one at least once a quarter
I appreciate his non partisan commentary and different ways of looking at current events. I wish there were more of them.
Now, more than ever, we need more intelligent commentary on the current affairs, which is EXACTLY what this show is. Not skewed right, not skewed left, it is skewed towards facts and historical perspective. Simply outstanding. Please do more episodes!
Dan, are you doing ok? I know that these are hard times and common sense doesn’t seem to be prevailing, but please come back! Tell us what you think, slow down the whirlwind news cycle and tell us what you time really matters. You make me a better American, you make all of your listeners better citizens. We miss you.
Need this now more than ever.
I give it a 4 star only because Dan hasn’t found time to do more current shows. This would be a great weekly or monthly podcast spanning Dan’s interpretation of major current events. As a person who is more conservative, I enjoy Dan’s ability to see both sides of the social divide that is plaguing the USA. I think he could be very impactful at reaching to both far left and far right thinkers if he joined I.D.W. like Ben Shapiro and others. We live in a sensitive era where young listeners need to lore from. Please Dan!! Hardcore history is amazing but we really need more non-social media/non celebrity minded views! Help bring the nation back to middle ground thinking!!!!!
If people this is five stars show then they might want to have a more comprehensive understanding of the world. It’s bigger than just America politics. Anger is mostly bad, it appears when you want to do harm, not fixing things.
Just wish we got more regular updates!
Some radio shows, banter and snide between host is just part of the act. I want to remind the hosts and one in particular without naming names *cough*steve*cough*...this isn’t that show. You guys aren’t morning talk show. 5 star worthy if it wasn’t for the rudeness.

When today's politics threaten to drive you out of your mind, there's nothing like a Common Sense episode to refresh your sanity
Had lots to say during the Presidency of Obama and now refuses to speak during the absolute madness of Trump. Not good enough to say you have nothing to add. I at times disagreed with Dan, but I respected his voice. It is a real shame that the voice has disappeared.
Dan has a very inquisitive mind. His take on modern politics is beyond anything I have seen in MSM.
Writing this review as I listen to Dan parrot Trump talking points repeatedly. Really disappointing. I feel like I’m watching someone die.
This podcast is so smart that I pay to listen to it.
Dan is obviously confused and torn. He knows he loves Trump and wants to ride the train. He really just needs to come out of the closet and confess his love for Trump so he can get on with his life and MAGA!
I know you were saying we probably didn’t need it but it’s still nice to hear your voice
I would say Dan Carlin for President, but he is too good for that position. He is way over-qualified.
Such a nice tone, so educational in the most ‘listenable way’... I listen to these while hiking in the Sonoran Desert heat in Arizona and it is fresh water for the mind.
I adore this podcast. Dan is brilliant and as a History teacher, he has pushed me to analyze things with my students to a whole other level. Thanks for the intellectual stimulation Dan!
I love this show. Dan is the only person I trust to talk about politics. Keep doing common sense Dan!!! Even if you can’t make predictions god knows we need at least one voice that’s talking common sense!
Started listening to this after hearing his hardcore history podcast (also amazing). Even though he states this isn’t a podcast for people who agree with him, it’s filled with historical facts and thoughtful ideas about the state of America. It allows me to think outside my comfort zone and really try to absorb new concepts. If you go in with an open mind you can also get past the reactionary nature of our current political landscape. Keep up the good work!
Informative and fun. I am more libertarian conservative and my son is liberal. His podcasts are often a springboard for civil conversation and debate between us. Keep up the work. The effort is greatly appreciated.
Dan is willing to hold up the mirror we don’t want to look into
Dan, just listened to For Whom the Bell Tolls, and aside from how much I enjoy listening to your viewpoint on current events, I really have to say: Please write that science fiction novel! Now that is a book I really want to read. Thanks for sharing your insight.
Thanks, Dan. Much appreciated, Sir.
Don't always agree with him, but he makes me think and makes me smarter.
Here's the deal. I'm a 15 year old girl who's never had much interest in politics until the recent election. I loved Hardcore History, and decided to check out this podcast. I love Dan's voice and the clear way he explains things. It's not boring like I would have thought, and I find myself agreeing with most of what he says. My favorite thing about this podcast is his "Martian" way of seeing things. If you ignore everything you think you know about politics and listen to this show with a blank slate, you might start to change your original views. Dan Carlton simply has common sense.
Love this show for many reasons. Dan's voice and presentation is just as good as it is on Hardcore History, he backs opinions up with data and first hand accounts where needed, and the subject material is always timely. The thing I like most about it though is that it's devoid of the ridiculous notion that "I'm right = You're wrong". With most things in life being some shade of gray, Dan discusses the good, the bad, and the curious regardless of which party stands where on the topic.
I can't get enough of Dan's podcasting. I do realize that I will just have to wait, though, because he really does his research, and then puts on an excellently orchestrated presentation, with feeling! Lavrentii Capitola, CA
Always on point and well researched
In an era where surety and divisive tribalism have infected nearly every political discussion, Dan Carlin has the courage to be an idealist not easily pinned down by a left or right ideology. He is great at posing questions about all aspects and players in the political sphere and admitting when he doesn't know an answer. I love Dan's commitment to thoughtful, intellectual curiosity and insightful reflection on the events of the day.
Very well thought out ideas
Dan's were some of my first podcasts, and I always look forward to them dropping in my feed, no matter how long it is between episodes. Rarely is Common Sense lighthearted, but Dan is someone you can feel like is going to tell it to you straight. I always appreciate his analyses of current events.
Dan has one of the best voices for podcasts I've ever heard and the quality of his shows are equal to or greater than it. Dan has a unique view on our current political climate that I and I feel many other Americans can sympathize and agree with. Always a must listen when it comes up.
Love Common Sense. Dan brings the same professionalism and character from Hardcore History.
While many may not agree with Dan Carlin's political point of views, I honestly believe that he takes the most unbiased appraoch humanly possible. Whether you are right or left wing you will find something that you find makes "Common Sense." There isn't another podcast that compares politically.
Sensible, true to title. Often a new perspective, something useful to chew on. Can be repetitive at times but well worth it to listen all the same.
excellent - interesting and educated discussions on current events
It's a bummer to get new ones of these so infrequently, but I definitely appreciate quality over quantity and I understand what an undertaking Hardcore History must be. Dan is fantastic though. A wonderfully refreshing perspective and always with a deep well of thought and information behind it. I always get incredibly excited when I see a new one pop up in my feed. Great stuff!
Can't get enough. I love your insight into the issues we face today.
The last podcast filled with Noonan's drivel about the "violent left" and nothing about Nugent and a President who wants to punch faces was it for me. That was not balanced. It might have been common, but the sense was nowhere to be found.
Make America Understand Common Sense Again.
What can be said at this point? The man is a living legend.
Skilled radio personality who takes no nonsense approach to political issues. His opinions are rational and non partisan. 10/10
In a political climate full of hot takes and propaganda Dan has a rare show that doesn't cater to anyone. He certainly has his own biases but he is way more aware of them then most on the right and nearly everyone on the left. He puts a lot of thought in what he says and actually tries to see all sides and to think issues through. He's got his own agendas but he understands that. We need many many more voices like his all over the spectrum and a lot less unthinking sheep railing against the other unthinking sheep.
It's free but it's worth donating
Dan Carlin provides the sort of political commentary that is sorely lacking in today’s clickbait, talk radio, 24-hr news cycle world.
Dan yanks you all over the place. You'll be thrilled when he says something you agree with, but he forces you to look at the other side of things as well. He takes a no-nonsense approach that will appeal to people across the political spectrum. This podcast is ever more important in our hyper-partisan atmosphere today, as it serves to mediate people's viewpoints and forces you to look at things a billion different ways.
We need to hear from you with more regularity, especially with all that is going on today.
I enjoy Dan's work and his voice enough that the content droughts are a bummer.
Dan's insights are consistently thoughtful, engaging, to-the-point, and critically well-defended. LOVE IT! I donated to his endeavor, and hope you will as well. His recent podcast on what's wrong with health care in America was so clear, and I fear... priescent.
Why isn't this part of the high school curriculum? Or even middle school? These are topics that our kids need to learn before they turn 18
In a world where the lines between fact and opinion are so thoroughly blurred, and finding thoughtful, insightful, and intelligent analysis is increasingly difficult, Common Sense with Dan Carlin is a true masterpiece. I can state unequivocally that this podcast assists me in looking at various issues from multiple angles and teaches me how to properly vet my own opinions, strip as much bias as possible, and helps to ensure that I am looking at the world critically. Thank you to all involved in creating and publishing this podcast.
It comes out so darn inconsistently. It's like a Christmas present when an episode drops. Only semi-annually at this point.
I may not always agree at first, but I respect Dans opinion, and how he makes a significant effort to present a balanced view.
Sometimes Carlin calls himself a political martian, because almost any way you try to categorize him ultimately fails. In a hyper-stratified political atmosphere, this is a refreshing viewpoint, and, in my view, is the only path to success for America.
Cuts through the noise
Great perspective on wide variety of things affecting us politically.
I really truly rarely write up a review on anything let alone podcasts. I can honestly say that I actively look for the next episode to come out. I'm already a huge hardcore history fan.
I love the way Dan Carlin thinks about topics. He has an independent viewpoint that everyone should consider. He is incredibly insightful and can really connect ideas. I love it when a new episode comes out - I have to listen as soon as I can. This is not your mainstream show. Keep it up Dan. It is awesome!
Common Sense pulls you out of the whirlpool of the 24h politics news cycle and makes you see that you missed some important big picture stuff
History at its best.
I really appreciate Dan's often unique perspective on topics. It offers me a chance to examine my own biases and opinions on important topics.
A non partisan, no BS look into the important topics of the day.
Dan Carlin is great
Dan is incredibly insightful and really challenges popular opinion on issues
If you want to hear a well rounded and distant, impersonal review of current affairs then Dan is your man.
I love Dan's perspective on current events. He always seems to focus on things that might not have seemed important at a glance but are hugely consequential on close review. Two thumbs up!
Refreshing analysis, which is much needed these days.
Dan brings his POV to politics. Gives great perspective.
Whether you agree or disagree with Dan he always has a well thought out point of view and is remarkably consistent in keeing those views.
The amount of research and thought that goes into this man's podcast is incredible. Dan's ability to provide context from differing view points is impressive. I walk away from his podcasts with a greater understanding of my own politics. I listen to Dan's Hardcore History series as well. Equally, if not more impressive work with high level story telling.
One of the first podcasts I've listened to and can't get enough. Wish I was this smart and eloquent.
And they are both by Dan Carlin. If you know you are living in the version of the US that George Washington warned would come from faction first politics, then you might take comfort listening to this podcast. At least you can know your not alone in your opinion.
Dan really help me think clearly about issues. He has changed my opinion on a lot of issues. Even when I disagree with him, I deeply value his opinion. One of the great thinker of our time. Don't miss it.
He tries to come off as a moderate but he is a liberal.
I'm with you Dan. Dan 2020
grateful for Dan's point of view.
Dan Carlin but don't agree with all his views
It's shocking to me how someone with such a great knowledge of history could completely fail when it comes to understanding modern domestic and foreign politics. I felt Dan had a very influential platform and trustworthy following, similar and in part due to Joe Rogan, and surely they influenced a cadre of free thinkers to either accept or vote for Donald Trump. His confusion about the current state of affairs is perplexing to me. His constant railing against the establishment and stalled government were largely misplaced. Now he finds himself on the wrong side of history and acts as if this was a curve ball that no one could see coming. Accept A LOT of people saw it coming. People with only a slightly more nuanced view. He is quick to ramble and discuss his disjointed thoughts on politics, but I hear him make arguments and rationalizations that are unfound and similar to that of a University freshman studying political science. He can think and is a smart guy, but is not well versed on political theory. Please, listen to Hardcore History and enjoy it for what it is. I listen and love it. Leave your political and cultural ramblings aside. I fear it's doing more harm than good.
Dan....Yours is the show that got me hooked on podcasts. Please continue to do what you do.
Longtime listener, first time caller. I listen to a bunch of podcasts at work, but I've never been compelled to write a review. Dan, your ideas and your thought process are more important than ever. Thank you for your intellectual integrity, curiosity, and down-to-earth communication style. I am very grateful for your shows. Keep up the excellent work. #1 fan
Wise, inspiring, strong commentary. It is always a happy moment when the new Common Sense drops into the podcasts app. I wish there were more frequent episodes though. Can't get enough.
Brings an enlightened point of view of the world from a historical perspective in a time of ahistorical madness.
The podcast is a more libertarian view that doesn't insult anyone on the left or right. Of course, he can upset people on the right and left but in a good way that makes you think. We need more of this type of communication to set this country right.
I differ from Dan somewhat in my political views, but his perspective and delivery are always fantastic. I've turned many people on to his podcasts. HH is my "go to" but CS is always a fresh perspective, and a little different. Cheers Dan! Keep up the good work!
I appreciate Dan's point of view.
Great stuff. Deep thinking and analysis.
Carlin gives a generally good overview of a topic. In spite of his obvious desire to be unbiased, his liberal bias comes through and can be a bit annoying. I suppose it's impossible to be totally unbiased, however, there's an arrogance with his bias that is sometimes too much to take.
I like to think that Dan Carlin keeps me sharp. I often disagree with portions of his analysis, but his thoughts are usually thought-provoking. This is a podcast I make sure to listen to as soon as it's downloaded.
Dan will give you a unique view of politics shaped by history. Not right or left, but Martian. And he has a fantastic voice and style that makes his podcasts superior to most.
I have been starving for objective political analysis and essay for years. I am very grateful.
This, along with the hard-core history podcast, may be the best on iTunes. Commonsense is an exploration of wise decision making and forward thinking in a time where both are often traded for expediency and political wins. Come with an open mind and you will be rewarded.
I started listening to Dan Carling via his Hardcore History show and found myself hooked on common sense. My only wish is that there was less time between episodes.
I'm curious in Dan Carlin's opinion of Trump's first few weeks in office and historical comparisons.
This is a fabulous podcast. In these....uncertain...times, it's heartening to know that there are still people out there who read, and think. It's irrelevant which side of the political spectrum you occupy. Dan Carlin will make you take a look at our times with a fresh perspective. It's obviously an overwhelming amount of work, putting out TWO such quality podcasts. ( Including, of course, HARDCORE HISTORY). The only complaint I have is that they don't come out frequently enough. Thanks, Dan.
Dan's hot takes are little more than uninspired baby boomer centrism. Nothing interesting about his opinions, although he is articulate enough to present them well.
Dan is the man
In the lead up to the 2016 election, Dan was talking about 2020 and beyond, trying to extrapolate what the popularity of Trump and Sanders meant. He is always looking for the big picture and the longer term view. This show, along with Hardcore History, is on my "must listen as soon as they drop" list.
Though I don't always agree, I always see the value in getting an educated and well thought out view of the political situation. His long view of history helps make his point, without causing him to be a pessimist. Though critical and negative on the short term prospects, Carlin is ultimately an optimist without creative solutions.
Dan > any other political commentary. A welcome relief from mainstream news outlets.
Common Sense is the perfect title. Dan does a great job of making the complex seem simple.
I 've given the podcast about a year and was even a donor (mostly to support the history podcast). Leading up to the election Dan his pretty much shown himself to be unhinged and irrational in his critiquie of Trump. It's reallly sad because on most issues Dan manages to rise above the hack liberal journalist fray. However in the month our so around the election there was little differentiating Dan's quotes on Trump from those you'd find from the no-talent sycophants on MSNBC. For a host who understands that the entire world has been guilty of slaavery at some point in history, he sure has a tough time accepting the desire of Americans wanting a strong border and a closer watch on who comes into this country. Sorry Dan, but your not getting much playtime on my ipod.
I'm on a constant search for intelligent honest nonpartisan discussion based on facts. Mr. Carlin's podcast is exactly that - I don't always agree with Carlin's commentary, but I always agree with the basis of his opinion and it's always insightful. I highly highly recommend.
Been listening to hardcore history for years and decided to give this a shot as well great work as always
I wish I had discovered him years ago. I like how he explains things and refers back to the main points and ties it all together. His delivery and style are fantastic. This is my favorite podcast. 😀
Dan is beholden to no man or god. He is insightful and fresh thinking. Worth your time.
Who is this guy and why does he think his opinions are noteworthy ? Listening to this guy is like listening to any number of other hacks that call themselves objective. Bill Kristol, Hugh Hewitt, Karl Rove come to mind!
Dan has a unique and new perspective on important news topics
My life has changed since listening to Dan & common sense. My world view has expanded, my taste in books has heighten, I'm quite bluntly a different person. This show is similar to crack, the rush of excitement I get when my phone alerts me to a new episode is simply euphoric. Cannot recommend enough.
Love the detail and breakdown of the various topics.
He has changed the way I view the world. My only criticism is that he doesn't release episodes often enough.
I started with Hardcore History before listening to Common Sense. Just like Hardcore History I would recommend this podcast to everyone, no matter what your interests or political party. Even if you don't agree with what he says I believe it's worth listening to. I think this is one of the most unbiased sources out there. Unbiased might not be the best term because Dan does have his viewpoints and will defend them, but he never seems to manipulate facts to win an argument or strengthen his case. Aside from that the presentation is top notch and Dan has a very engaging way of speaking.
A wonderful rant on the state of the world
Dan spends the show breaking down issues and events facing the country without the fact free rhetoric espoused by many idiot pundits.
I wish all my news and current events could come through a Carlin filter. I also wish everyone in this country would stop and listen to common sense.
Very interesting take on political events of today.
An interesting voice with an unusual perspective. Dan Carlin can be listened to by conservatives, liberals and Martians alike.
I listen to many political podcasts and this is most unique and refreshing. Interviews enlightening and topics enlarge my thinking.
Dan always has an interesting take on developments. If for nothing else listen to hear another perspective on things that you might not even have noticed.
Dan Carlin provides the soundtrack and blueprint for the fundamental reform we so desperately need.
Thank you , Dan Carlin .
Dan cuts through the noise and get to the real issues. Alogn with the uncanny ability to see things from other people's perepectives, this is one political podcast that actually gives me hope for the future.
This podcast is always absolutely fantastic and contains actual original thought!!! Imagine that!!!
Outstanding podcast. I look forward to each new release. Keep up the good work.
Dan gives a great alternate look at whatever he tackles. I look forward to every episode.
Avoid. He is just repacking liberal garbage, and the best/worst part is, that is as clueless as his media watch source is, he's even more clueless. Before you rant about something, learn about it first, to idiots you sound smart, but to those who know the real world, and learn of it, we can see through real fast.
I hate the term common sense. It always seems to carry a connotation of condescension because it's employed under the guise that someone didn't know something that all members of society ought to know. This podcast however follows a different connotation of the term. Dan Carlin talks about ideas and principles that most everyone really can get behind. With a constitutional allergy to dogmatism he discusses some of the great perils that face our society and the liberty that it is(or is supposed to be) built upon. If you follow politics at all you should listen to his podcast.
Dan does a wonderful job of presenting his point of view. It's a great listen
It's like you're watching a play and you're really sucked into the emotion of it all and right when you perceive it to be the climax; Dan Carlin jumps on stage and rips the curtain down revealing the entire charade behind the scenes and as much as I hate to see it, it's really nice to see how it was all put together.
Should be in the top 10 podcasts of all time. Number 1 if you are a political nerd who likes to take a rational approach to current events
This is one of the most level headed current event shows out there. He needs to get a show on POTUS.
I only wish Dan was super human so he could put out this podcast and Hardcore History each and every week--- since he can't be super human, I will just thank him for two very interesting podcasts and wait patiently for the next episodes.
It's sad that a man voicing well thought out opinions is so rare. Dan Carlin is one of my heroes, and I look forward to following his work for many years
Like many people, I first learned of the superior story-telling and analytical abilities of Dan Carlin from his Hardcore History podcast, and have only recently become aware of Common Sense. I am infinitely glad I did. I've always been caught somewhere between liberalism and conservatism, simultaneously agreeing with and eschewing both. Never before has anyone perfectly articulated what I've felt politically; sensed without real knowledge, assumed without true understanding. Given DC's expertise and credentials, I finally feel validated in my own Martainism. Thank you, thank you.
Great podcast, and great views. Finally someone who seems to get it.
I love hearing his point of view.
Common sense is so hard to find these days. I thought this might be just another false advertisement like "fair and balanced". But Dan does not yell or give in to histrionics like almost everyone else. He is even handed and looks at all aspects. Highly recommended.
Dan's amazingly interesting and thoughtful. A real relief if you're like me and tired of hearing the different sides of the aisle yelling at one another.
I found this very hard to listen to. One person debating against himself? I do the same thing Carlin does in my own mind every day when I process information and engage with current events. But I don’t make a podcast about it and subject the rest of the world to my internal dialogue. Listening to this podcast, rather than learning anything new or interesting, I got progressively more annoyed with the narration (rambling, asides, far too long) and had to keep myself so on guard to wade through the opinionating that I couldn’t even relax and just listen. I have given it a fair shot and will not be listening again. Carlin is independent but not impartial. Listen to him as critically as you would any partisan commentator and do not replace your own critical faculties with this own.
Skip the typical radio talking heads and get the good stuff right here!
This is a sweet cast. A historical way of looking at modern events.
A rare breed of passionate Independent, Carlin addresses some of the most pressing political issues of our time, and he does so in a way that is creatively intellectual, captivatingly historical, and refreshingly nonpartisan. You'll love him, you'll hate him, and you'll spend weeks on edge, waiting for the next episode because (unfortunately) you won't find ideas like Dan's anywhere else.
How can a podcast that’s called “Common Sense” say that about anything? This podcast was billed as a non-partisan podcast to me, but the Feb. 26 2016 pod was anything but, and Mr. Carlin doesn’t have the personality to pull off a 1-man 1-hour podcast. It’s not worth the time.
I love the podcast, love the takes but it's barley once a month. In a year where politics are unprecedented.
You won’t get this kind of perspective anywhere else. Definitely makes you think regardless of your own opinions
Dan for president!
Common Sense is a good place to start asking hard questions.
Imagine political commentary that is insightful, nonpartisan, outside-the-box, and informed by history. If you watch cable news, then this type of commentary only comes from your imagination. Turn off your TV and tune into this podcast (and his other one). If he ran his own news network our country (at least slightly) would be better off
My only gripe is that the episodes are too infrequent. I love hearing Carlin's perspectives, and I'm constantly looking for more voices like his. Fair, honest, and backed by an understanding of history. Highly recommended.
My second favorite Dan Carlin podcast--and my second favorite podcast, period. Rock on, Dan!
I wish more people listened to Hardcore History and, as I did, hope for and find this podcast with Dan's thoughtful take on current issues and events. I've been listening to this podcast series newest-to-oldest and it's incredible how Dan's analysis consistently shines a light on important issues from multiple angles. I love how these podcasts make me think and I'm grateful for how they contrast just about everything else in current circulation with their intelligence and wisdom.
Dan Carlin does a great job of playing both sides of an argument. Most important thing is that his show makes the listener THINK! Something sorely needed in our current culture. Thank you Dan, you inspire me regularly.
This is the best political show there is. Truly original, deeply thoughtful points. It'll make you think, yet its so respectfully presented it shouldn't make anyone mad. The only political show I'd ever recommend equally to an anarchist or a communist.
Might be the first history teacher I've ever had who zooms out enough to connect events together rather than discuss everything in a vacuum. Spins the best yarns and pronounces the word "again" in a way that always makes me smile.
Dan digests current news
I'm a huge fan of his history podcast but this is a great political podcast not inflammatory just fresh logical takes of current events.
Thoroughly engaging and insightful.
He is a down to earth and honest analyst that doesn't try to sway you to his idea with cherry-picked data, just throws original ideas to foster discussion.
The anger profile seems SO true..the futility of Iowa turns obvious..EXELENT
Dan Carlin is a master at describing the events of today through the lens of history. Topics that continually appear in the news that seem everybody has their own opinion on, Dan addresses and explains the history of WHY they are happening this way. It has exposed truths about current events that are blatantly obvious now but that the mainstream media ignores — they prefer the back and forth argumentative circus over explanations and lessons.
Dan Carlin is the best podcaster out there, bar none. Hardcore History is a revelation. Common Sense is excellent too. Great use of your time.
An intelligent editorial on current events with a context of history. Just wonderful.
After years of obsession with politics, I got burnt out. Too much partisan talking past each other and apocalyptic yelling from soap boxes. Dan offers valuable, unique perspective on relevant topics in his captivating style.
This is one of the rare podcasts that I feel disappointed when the episodes are over. ALWAYS smart&never preachy!
Love Dan. He always brings a fresh and amusing perspective to the hot button issues facing our society. He also keeps it fairly balanced which I appreciate a lot.
Love his solution based approach to issues.
Dan is still doing some pretty good work on here. Worth a listen if you like politics
Very open minded non party biased current event/political podcast. Fun to listen to even when I don't agree
Very good ideas that make u think
Bring a fork and knife this is food for thought
Carlin refuses to be fooled by recency-bias. His spoken-essays are sharp, but he doesn't take himself too seriously. This is what good journalism should be.
You never know when the next episode is coming but it's always a great perspective on the world. Even when, especially when I don't agree, Dan carlin challenges me to look at events in a new light. Absolutely love this podcast! Thanks dan!!
Grateful for Dan carlin and this podcast. He's a special guy and this show is critical.
In my opinion Dan is one of the top 3 best podcasters ever. I mean EVER!
Glad to hear you swallow every 20 seconds... There's no way that could get annoying
Just listen and you'll understand
Dan Carlin’s ability to make verbal sense of issues that seem to huge for my feeble mind to wrap around makes me feel empowered with knowledge. I am a huge fan and an incredibly thankful for his talents in research and delivery.
Dan does an amazing job of gathering information from many disparate sources, interpreting that information with a "Common Sense" perspective & then disgorging it in a manner that makes you say, "Wow, I never thought of things that way (or at all)". Dan Carlin for President! Not that he'd want the job...
The podcast was OK and provided a POV different from mine. But, in the latest episode(#299) the show went off the rails. Dan Carlin starts referring to himself in the third person (never a good sign) and babbling on about Manchurian Candidate-type stuff involving mind control and what-not. This kinda stuff is too far out there for me.
If you want a refreshing objective discussion about some of today’s most important issues, look no further. Dan, along with his guests, cut right to the heart of tough issues like Alexander and the Gordian Knot. Dan manages to offer interesting perspectives on current events and their relation to recent history while managing to captivate your attention every step of the way. Buckle up!!!!
I wait every day hopeful for another podcast release to be today.
I think Dan Carlin represents a throughly American and educated voice. He is a breath of fresh air, whether of it's discussing the Khan's, WWI neutrally or the modern Middle East. He speaks common sense from an very knowledgeable and educated background. Thoroughly American.
The best podcast out there, simple as that!
I stumbled across this podcast with no expectations. I could have had the highest expectations set and Dan would have easily eclipsed them! Always thoughtful, you feel like you are engaged in a deep conversation..... be it one sided. Kudos ! Now, if you could only release them more often!!
Great way to listen and analyze modern events. It won't disappoint!!!
I love these shows!! I like to hear intelligent thought provoking analysts and opinions that challenge my own views. Dan delivers, in that sense. Only tiny complaint is I wish they came out more often. But not a the sacrifice of quality. So... Keep e'm coming!!
Just listen. You'll like it
Such great insight
It's rare to find someone who has a historical background discussing current events in a structured political forum. There are things Dan Carlin brings to the table that many politicians / show hosts do, but the difference is that Dan doesn't take on the responsibility of knowing the answers to the future or blue printing a plan for the outcome. He's comfortable saying "I don't know" or offering up scenarios (which usually include a Sci fi or fantasy references). I add almost to the subject Bc to say 'my sentiments exactly' would be to relinquish my actual thoughts and granting Dan the reins to my personal emotional opinions, which I would almost be comfortable doing. Almost. Keep the shows coming Dan and thank you for the thought provoking discussions you've evoked.
This is the podcast that got me started listening to podcasts. Dan doesn’t lay into his opinions like you think someone would, but he asks the listener a lot ow questions about how they might feel about different situations. Always with a nod to history he’s entertaining, thought provoking, and a great guy to listen to.
Dan Carlin's talent is that he knows how to place any issue into a context so it can be understood by normals like me.
My favorite podcast. Everyone else is amateur. Great sound quality. Great pace to the show. Perfect for history fans. I love it.
Dan has a unique ability to provide informed commentary on social and political topics while forcing the listener to examine their own beliefs. His shows are must-listen podcasts.
Dan always brings a broader, more thought provoking perspective to the national narrative.
It is what it is.
I’m a conservative-leaning libertarian and find Dan Carlin as one of the sanest voices of “common sense” out there. I follow his Hardcore History series as well and only wish this guy could do a podcast for literally everything. 5 stars is seriously underselling how solid this podcast is. I’m talking a minimum 7-8 stars.
No matter your political leaning or ideology, this is a great look into the mind and thought process of someone that's knowledgeable and has some common sense. A must listen!
Even when I don't agree with him I like the way he makes his points. A really good series.
The best political podcast out there. Dan Carlin delivers a well thought out and thought-provoking podcast with original points of view. He is pretty unbiased and is quick to point where he feels he is biased. I challenge you to find another political presenter with as much integrity. He does not resort to cheap shots but clearly explains problems with great reason and fairness. people of ALL political viewpoints should listen to this to help balance them. (sadly most people need balancing). My only complaint is that episodes can take a while to come out, but if that is what it takes for quality… I can be patient. I hope this helps someone!
Objective analysis of the issues that matter today. Dan uses his massive historical knowledge and experience in journalism to give us his fascinating perspective.
Just insightful commentary on the downfall of the American Republic.
I’ve been listening to Common Sense for a couple of years now and in that time it has become my favorite podcast. I’m a political junkie and always on the lookout not just for news sources but for thoughtful analysis free of the usual spin and diatribes. This is one such source. I also produce my own political podcast and I’m not afraid to admit I borrow shamelessly from Common Sense. Dan provides straightforward analysis and is not afraid to call anyone out regardless of their political persuasion. He may not always get you to agree but he will always make you think. I think that’s the biggest compliment you could pay anyone that does this kind of work. Please keep up the good work, Dan.
What a talk radio show could be. Cuts through the bull, but without hyperbole and straw men. Glad I can listen to it whenever I have the time. Keep up the great work, Dan!
Generally enjoy Dan's ideas, sometimes he can be unrealistic. Occasionally though his stuff can be truly thought provoking, his recent podcast with Sam Harris was very good. Also his Hardcore History podcast is excellent.
Dan has a interesting perspective on current events.
I do not agree with everything Dan says, but he documents what his opinions are based on, well enough, that I normally feel I have to justify to myself why I disagree, when I do.
Dan is obviously a really smart guy. He's worked in TV media and radio, politics, as a historian, and he just has really unique perspectives and asks questions that nobody else does. Some of his (as he says) politically "Martian" views are really quite sensible, and I love the way he compares and ties current politics and issues into history. Some of the things he's said have even made me reconsider my stance on some issues. Very well informed and a truly unique perspective (plus he's not trying to push any agenda, left or right), I think everyone with an interest in these things should listen to Dan! :)
This is Dan's politics/current events show, and it's great! It's a perfect compliment to his amazing Hardcore History show.
It's a good day when the new shows get published!
The best for anyone who wants brain stimulation in a very informative and soothing way.
I love that everyone talks about Hardcore History. It's a great show and deserves attention, but I honestly think Dan Carlin's political show, Common Sense, is underrated. I found it inspirational in starting my own podcast devoted to a totally different topic (college admissions). Although CS could be interpreted as "current events," I've found that Dan Carlin simply uses current events as a jumping-off point to discuss issues that are relatively timeless. I'd consider Common Sense "evergreen" and worth listening to if you care about the same political issues he does (privacy, international affairs, etc.)
Sometimes I like Dan’s show but it also disappoints frequently. I feel like iTunes has built up this guy and he either doesn’t deliver like he used to or maybe he never did. I’m a big fan of KickAss Politics. I think that’s the new Dan Carlin. No offense
