Hoping there will be a season 3! This has been one of my favorite podcasts!
This is an unbelievable production......and a generational unifier.... I am in my 70's, my children in their 30's.... we are both mesmerized.
But How many commercials can you fit into season 2?
I’m considering on organizing a hunger strike if season one of Crime Town isn’t revisited or expanded on. I’ve listened to season one several times, it never gets old. Get on it folks I get hangry, fast!
If you love well told stories about historical events, culture and society you will love this! SO GOOD!!! I am completely hooked. Hurry up Season 3!
Just talk. Stop with the stupid Buddy Cianci stuff in between. Good lord how frustrating.
This was recommended by the hosts of the scissors and scrubs pod cast and I literally can not stop listening to your show! I’ve told all of my friends and family to check this out!
Based on the one episode I listened to bc it happened in my hometown this podcast needs a fact checker. The girl features claims she was suspended for being in a fight even though she was “the victim”.... would a victim yell across a school cafeteria calling someone a baby killer after they dealt with an unplanned pregnancy? Based on the fact she lied about the very reason she needed a lawyer I hesitate to believe a lot about her story. The girls retaliate against her but she committed a heinous act. She’s literally the craziest thing to come out of East Greenwich and that says a lot.
One of my favorite shows with delicious audio and fabulous music selection. Stories so captivating!
This podcast is one of the best!
The season on Detroit is SO much better than the previous season. I can’t wait to get to the next episode. With the last season, I would just listen to it with reluctance and a little dread. Not with this one.
Almost impossible not to binge listen!
Thank you for this podcast! It shed more light on our city’s crooked mayor. Detroit will come back!
I couldn’t get enough is season 1. Loved how it was done and enjoyed every second if it!!!
I love this podcast and the way it’s done. I wish there were more Detroit episodes!
This podcast brings the characters involved in the organized crime ring of Providence to life. Take a journey into the dark underbelly of back door deals, hits, cover ups, a city under control of a powerful mob boss. The real life Sopranos.
Absolutely love the podcast! But you guys need some new ads. Every time I hear April Belasio say the world “tangible” I contemplate leaping from my moving vehicle. Don’t worry - I opt for skipping through the ad. I’d imagine that a captivating show like Crimetown would have folks lining up to advertise with you. Please consider. Amazing piece of work otherwise. Thanks for all the hard work putting this together.
One of my all time favorites. This podcast captures the hubris and audacity of elected officials, and gets such amazing interviews from so many perspectives. Listen!
I love this podcast! It's very entertaining and also teaches a lot of history which I love too. It's very well edited and recorded and I love the host's voice!
The first season was flawless. Narration, storytelling, editing, all of it — essentially perfect. The second season gets off to a rocky start in my opinion. Several new narrators and scattered story plotting give it a very amateur feel far below the standards of the first season. But stick with it! After episode 5, it really tightens up. The show settles in on one or two narrators who have learned how to give this season its own voice. The editing and story really comes together by doing what Crimetown does best, providing captivating character arcs. Overall, the producers of Crimetown are incredibly adept at weaving numerous characters and plots into a beautifully crafted story arc – something difficult to do with real life events. I can't recommend it enough.
I enjoyed hearing all the details regarding the Kilpatricks and Detroit in general! I was very impressed with this podcast station. Check it out! Great research and fact checking too! Ready for Season 3!
Simply the best. Hosts, production value, intyeriviews, music and research. So worth the wait for season two. Hoping there is a season three. These stories are the best reporting /storytelling on urban America I've encountered since The Wire.
Really enjoying season 2 ! Dimitri is awesome! Omg Kwame just can’t come clean He’s making my blood boil 🤬
Thanks to everyone involved in this show. As IO Tillet Wright says—it is a “movie for your ears” and I was riveted. Detroit was a mother lode of “edge-of-the-seat” stories. A great journey. I await your next project.
This is what happens when you have white flight. The truth matters.
I really have enjoyed the narrative! It’s sad that there is so much corruption but exposing it and showing how it has been brought out is great!
I was riveted!
It has been interesting listening to information about events that happened in the city I was born and grew up in (and I mean actually living in Detroit in the 80s and 90’s). However, this podcast makes it seems like Black people were the only corrupt individuals in the city and that’s just not true. Thus, I feel a more thorough and complete investigation should have been done in discussing the timeline of Detroit crime. Thus, whoever is listening to this podcast and isn’t familiar with Detroit, know that there are other factors that need to be considered and discussed.
This is a good show. However, i don’t care for the jokes at the end of the show. They’re very distasteful. Other than that, it’s a good show.
At first, I was all in with Season 1 of this podcast. However as more and more was covered, I began to wonder how families of victims feel about all of the focus on the criminals. I was happy to listen to more about the victims’ families in many of the bonus episodes. I’m hoping Season 2 will have more about the good people.
Both seasons of Crimetown are must listen! Well produced and very addictive.
One of the best podcasts around. The first season is fascinating, funny, and just fun. A must listen. You will enjoy!
Just wrapping up season 1 and don’t want it to end! Awesome job I could listen to the wise guys forever!
The way this is produced is amazing. The stories are so engaging. I can’t stop listening.
So well done!! Binged on both seasons, sad to see it end. So interesting. Enjoyed hearing from the persons involved!!! Thank you for a great podcast.
I loved the first season on Providence! However when I found out the second season was to be on Detroit I couldn’t wait!!! I grew up in the suburbs of Detroit’s Eastside and first started paying attention to politics and current events during the reign and aftermath of the Kilpatrick administration! Everyone had an opinion on Kwamme and that period was when I realized it distinct, deep and intense the divide and disconnect between the suburbs and the city were! It was this political scandal and corruption that really ignited my interest in politics! I have been a Detroit history fanatic! I read the autobiography of Butch Jones the Y.B.I founder, grew up hearing of the Coleman Young years, and watching first hand Kwamme’s Saga unfold, following it in the newspaper everyday! From someone who loves Detroit, grew up in the suburbs but spent a lot of time in the city and considered myself a Detroiter, and completely inthralled by Detroit’s history and legacy I have been loving this in-depth dive into the stories cities want to be forgotten but cannot be for they notorious nature of the crime and corruption! Plus I just have to say... BK is the true villain in the tail of Detroit, Kwamme is doing the time Bernard should be doing! I am not saying Kwamme is an innocent man in this situation, however it was his dad who extorted, took advantage, profited immensely from the situation and is most likely opening the Pandora’s Box that resides on any politicians desk! Once you compromise yourself towards corruption even a little bit, that first bribe you take, that first quid pro quo favor you do, that first abuse of power and circumstance committed, the levy has been breached! From then on it can escalate all too quickly because once compromised further compromises become easier and eventually It just becomes standard operating procedure! Absolutely stunning work and in-depth investigation into crime and corruption, even though I Love Detroit I cannot wait for what city is next!
I listened to all of Seasons 1 & 2 and I absolutely loved it! I hope there’s more to come in the future! The stories, narrating, interviews, and topics were so intriguing I couldn’t stop listening! I listened on the way and home from work which I have a long commute! I would sneak an episode here and there at work don’t tell my boss! Loved it, loved it, loved it!
Great interviews and storytelling. Many lively characters. The episodes build upon one another, but also tell totally different perspectives. Fascinating.
I am addicted to this podcast. I just want more & more episodes.
Kilpatrick is scum and his supporters are a joke
I listen to so many podcasts. Probably 10 hours a day. This is the best. It’s professionally on the edge and thankfully goes over the edge often.
Season 2 is a disappointment. Each episode buries the lead because speculation is far more titilating than reality. Clickbait.
It is terrible
High quality material, I only give 4 stars due to the theme music. It is akin to nails on a chalk board.
The production value, stories, interviews and pure grit found within is astoundingly awesome. I am hooked. Keep them coming!
That’s my review.
Both seasons have been great. Well-researched, entertaining, and very interesting. I highly recommend!
I had heard about this podcast via another podcast about season 2. Well I figured I’d listen to season 1 first and see if it was any good, I didn’t think I would enjoy listening to a corrupt mayor. I was so wrong! Getting all the background on the mob activity and listening to them laugh about how crazy it was back then was great. It’s an amazing the roller coaster ride of Mayor Buddy, it’s like how can people love this guy? Then you hear his interactions while in jail and at his portrait unveiling and you can’t help but love him. He seemed like an interesting guy for sure. I’d love to see Buddy the musical, it sounds hilarious! Now onto to season two!
Love this podcast!!
Both seasons are really well-done. The in-depth reporting is so good and gives an unbiased, behind-the-scenes look at these cities and cultures. Now that literally. everyone. has a podcast, it’s more difficult to find the good ones. Superb storytelling here.
Very enjoyable. Mayor Young was before my time. I never realized how corrupt he was during his time as mayor. All of the side stories were great, too! I’m looking forward to season three.
Race baiting pushing the liberal agenda in season 2. Don’t waste your time.
I lived outside of Detroit for several years during the infamous Mayor Kirkpatrick reign. I enjoyed hearing the history of the city in earlier times and how it struggled. Detroit has always been a town that struggled but they keep on fighting. Thank you for sharing the truth of the history of this city. Although I wasn’t born in Michigan, I always hold Detroit close to my heart.
Good podcast. A different take on drugs and politics
The first season was especially exciting as a Rhode Island native having grown up in the 80s and 90s. So much effort went into the first season I didn’t think it would be possible to equal the Providence season but season two is every bit as intriguing.
This is seriously one of the best podcasts out there oute of any genre. The production is on point and interviews are thorough. Another homerun from Gimlet!
Enjoyed what I listen to thus far until I started hearing words bringing bleeped out. Not quiet sure why words would be bleeped when we are on the subject of murder and dealing drugs. If the creators of the content can’t keep the thing intact i don’t want to hear it. I’m sorry but it’s a big let down that the story can’t be told as is and certain sounds need to be bleeped out.
These are about 20 mins. 3 mins of commercial and 3 mins of wasted overproduced sections with music and previously on sound clips. Come on man. This is a cool story, just be straight forward.
I’m from the Providence area, so I was on board with this podcast from episode 1. I didn’t know if it was that the podcast was great, or that I was just excited to learn more about these stories that had entered local lore by the time I was growing up. Now that season 2 is out, I can say that it’s definitely an awesome podcast. The story telling is fantastic and I love the interviews with fascinating, complicated people.
I've only listened to season 2. I was born in Detroit around the time when this series starts. It's really great to hear all the inside detials and history of somehting that I had little knowledge of since I was just a baby but knew the aftermath of it as I grew up. Detroit, when I was young, was a place that people from the suburbs were terrified to go to. Even in the 80s when I went to college in the city, you had to always be on the lookout and make sure to never went into certain areas. I enjoyed my college years and worked in the city for a year or so afterwards but got out as soon as I could find a job in another cit and never looked back. I hear it's gotten much better and is going through a change that has brought artists and craftsman into areas that have transformed old burnt out and abandoned places into art studios, gardens and handcrafted food kitchens and breweries. It's still not a place that I would want to live but it's good to hear thta it's doing better. It's also funny to hear one of the people interviewed say "party store", which is what all people from Wayne county call a liquor store. The only place in the world that uses that slang.
Season 1 was great. We anticipated season 2, waited forever and the podcast was trash. No storyline, it jumped everywhere and I didn’t learn much. Please don’t continue making this liberal podcast
Season 1 offers great content and human perspective; if one gets past the sometimes condescending attitude (Northeastern host visiting the South 'hicks'), one can see human condition and strugles outside our owns. One of my favority series of all times. Season 2 also offers great content however, the MUSIC! The choice of music to accompany the episodes is good although the volume, the going up and down volume is soooo IRRITATING! I'm having a hard time continuing listening the rest of the season. Producers: please reign in whoever is in charge of this aspect, it doesn't enhance the quality of the podcast but diminishes it. There is such a thing as TOO MUCH!
one of the best I think!!
This podcast is absolutely wonderful the way it tells the American city experience. The music, the people... great, great stories.
The show is pretty interesting, but there are only 20 minutes (about 50% of each episode) of actual content.
Crimetown is awesome. The use of interviews and primary sources is really impressive. The podcasts are very well produced and move along nicely. Educational and entertaining, while also uncovering real corruption.
Season 1 was perfect. It was engaging and it felt personal. The listener felt a love affair with Providence. However, season 2 feels more clinical and there was a lack of emotion from the narrators and interviewers. Also, the theme song does not invoke the spirit of the city or the story being told. Both seasons have great story telling and season 2 is getting better. But, Detroit deserves more humanizing of the people and the city. The fun, the joy, and the pride is not reflected; how this life can be appealing.
I never leave reviews and I’ve listened to podcasts for years before anyone around me knew what a podcast was. This series is what podcasts were built for. The best of the best. Thanks for such in-depth, amazing, smart, strong reporting and storytelling. So interesting, informative and entertaining. Addictive!!! Thank you.
Having moved to RI six years ago for no other reason other than I loved it here, I was met with warm welcome and grave concern: “But what about the corruption?” The only Rhode Islander I knew before moving here had written stories about his grandfather and dropped names like Patriarca, and it meant little to me, though it was an interesting story. NOW I know just what everyone was talking about! I couldn’t stop listening to the first season. This plays out like a movie, and the podcast crew does an excellent job. Thank you for the crash course in RI’s recent history!
Wonderful, descriptive and detailed reporting and interviews. My only complaint is the theme songs for both seasons are annoying and grating, so much so that I have to skip the intros. How can you have a podcast about Detroit and not lead with soul or funk music? Please, please stop with the abrasive intro music with future seasons. And I say this as an avid podcast listener with interest in all music genres and who rarely has this issue with podcasts intros. I can think of only one other, which was so unpopular with listeners that they changed it. Otherwise, keep up the awesome reporting!
Please make more seasons!
The first season is tough to beat (I loved it so much I listened to the whole thing twice) but this season 2 is growing on me and I’m genuinely disappointed when the episode ends and I have to wait another week for the next one. Well done!
Thanks for putting season 2 on iTunes!
Everyone download listen and enjoy!
One of the beat podcasts out there. Great story telling.
Season One was terrific. That was then, this is now. We start Season Two off with racism and the execution of black youth by the police. This paints a pretty sympathetic picture of what was happening at the time to a disenfranchised minority. However, we are then asked to carry-over our sympathies to feel for black drug dealers who are selling into their own communities. It is only episode 5 (on iTunes) but it’s very hard for me to feel badly for drug dealers. Perhaps the tone will change in the next 15 episodes, if so, I will edit for more stars.
Season 2 fails. Nowhere as interesting as season 1. Just like season 2 of Serial
Crimetown is the model of a perfect podcast. Season One is still the most entertaining and fascinating pod series I have heard. Couldn't be better.
A completely unexpected honey pot of ear gold. Crimetown is the quintessential episodic true crime podcast, it was done to perfection. 👍👍
FANTASTIC. Season 1 is entertaining, eye-opening, and at times very funny. Truth is FAR stranger (and in this case more entertaining) than fiction.
You start out with season 1 waiting to hear who’s connected to which group and whether the police will finally get someone and how. Wiseguys switch sides but who’s staying and who’s truthful? The narrator leaves you hanging but not too bad. He’s good at bringing emotion into it but also in a sort of reporter style. Who would have thought Rhode Island especially when all you hear about are NY gangs? But this is crazy. They are able to connect Buddy Cianci and watch how his head gets bigger and the crime gets insane with fingers pointing in every direction. You hear interviews with retired wiseguys and some were still racking up convictions. Are they telling the truth in the interview? Maybe. If they’re not, they’ve believed their lies so much that it’s truth now and you’ll never hear otherwise from them. This is a story of corruption, scandal, gang murders, payback, and Rhode Island tough guys working for one big guy who had a heart for people but could snap his fingers and get anything he wanted and take you down if you didn’t obey. Season 2 changes the style to race wars in Detroit. The interviews are great but the narrator is terrible. She sounds bored like she’s been reading books out loud all day and she’s ready to go home. No emotion. Just, “Here’s what was written so now I’m going to read it” type attitude. In season 1, corruption and scandals begin right from the start. In season 2, you hear of stories of cops taking the wrong way to deal with crime by setting up kids and then they’re shot. The guys still involved believe is was okay. As heartbreaking as that is, the story goes flat. Enter a guy who has everyone believing he’s going to fix that. In the style of Season 1, they’d probably touch on a story or two and quickly enter the election of the new guy and begin explaining the corruption. This one drags and the narrator makes it boring. I really hope it picks up as episodes keep going. Bring back the guy from season 1.
I am super into this podcast! Just started yesterday and am enthralled! Such interesting stories and put together perfectly! The interviews, information, and connection between episodes is captivating! Can’t wait to listen to the rest of Season 1 and for Season 2 to start!!
I would have loved to give a 5 star review. The podcast is great well done. I should not have to go to a different app or download a different app to listen to season 2. This podcast company seeks to be doing that with a few of their podcast. Put it back in iTunes. You have others in iTunes what’s the reasoning behind having this one a paid stitcher app.
Love, love, love this podcast! Season 1 was like reading a good book you don’t want to put down. I had to binge listen because I found the stories and the way they were told to be very compelling. And despite the topic there was humor in the telling sometimes. The people came to life, and in spite of some of the things they did, you rooted for them. Season 2 was also hard to stop listening to and yet was a little too close to home(I live in a suburb of Detroit). It was painful to hear the way Mayor Kilpatrick conducted his business both personal and private. He was a beacon of hope and a face of the future of Detroit and he threw that away because of greed and hubris. And yet he still refuses to admit his wrongdoing. Both seasons are more than worth your time!!
This podcast was amazing I had just finished the pod cast Serial great as well. And came across Crimetown. What an awesome listen. Thank you.
Very entertaining will start season two soon
All of the episodes each individually and collectively are great. I look with fondness what each member of the team has done. I hope you have future episodes. Thanks.
Wish they were more but I do understand you have to investigate the story .
Why aren’t any more episodes available? I enjoyed the last season a lot
What happened to season 2? I was excited after hearing the first episode. I want more
Characters abound--including the city of Providence, itself--and our reporters do justice to every last one of them. Buddy Cianci: the Charles Foster Kane of mayors. Unbelievable and unforgettable.
Really good podcast! I live 45 minutes away from Providence. I knew it had a sorted history but I didn’t realize how corrupt it was. Still not run well thought in 2019....
I really enjoyed this. Incredible story can’t believe it’s real!
I too just learned it is only on Spotify. Any chance it’s coming here any time soon? We are all huge fans.
Crime, politics, occasional musical theatre, this show has it all. A great listen.
Season 2, where are you? I found out I can only listen from Spotify, and it’s been out for months.
I’ve been checking my phone every day for months now for the release of season 2. It’s driving me crazy. I’m from Detroit and I’m a history buff especially when it comes to mafia, military, or just the darker side of humanity.
Great podcast. Quality content from Gimlet as usual.
Great season 2 episode 1 about Detroit. Too bad they’ve announced only will get the next episodes on Spotify.
Have you ever thought about doing a segment on the Baltimore prison? Your show is amazing!
“Hey Mollicone, I got ya RISDIC right heeeya!” No, seriously... This podcast is great! Immersive and very detailed. I’m going to have to listen to it one more time to soak up all the ins and outs. I would never have guessed that a nun would be my favorite character in the story, but she definitely was.
I really enjoyed S1 and I was looking forward to S2. I’m not going to switch to Spotify to listen to it, however. How disappointing that it’s not even cross posted at a later date.
The podcast is entertaining enough to listen to, beside the obvious embellishments and the grandiose views people have of themselves, the commercials are absolutely the most obnoxious and redundant advertising attempts of all time. I will never buy or support any of the products I’ve heard advertised on this podcast because of it. I’m definitely not going to follow this podcast over to Spotify. That’s the biggest load of garbage I’ve ever had someone try on me. With a name like Gimlet I shouldn’t be surprised. The drink is trash and so are the majority of these podcasts. I definitely don’t have any interest in Detroit anyhow.
Not going to spotify.
I was looking for a true crime podcast with one great or a few great stories and one or a few great characters and I found it! Please make a Third Season!
Season 1 was just amazing. Impecable. A masterpiece. So I can't believe you are forcing us to subscribe to a particular service to get Season 2. Isn't that why you sell ads on your shows? I've followed Gimlet from the very start and love their show, but this was a low blow.
Season 1 was an eye opening series on organized crime and politics. I new there was/is crime and corruption in the US, but this really highlights how prevalent it was. It’s also very humanizing and shows that this black and white world that’s often portrayed (good verses bad) is much more gray. Each person in this crazy story is scarily normal. Worth a listen! Also, the music is great!
Too much production for a podcast. Too many sound effects, too much music, waaaaaay over produced. They make a 20 minute story into an hour.
Love true crime stories. This takes you deep into organize crime. Get to hear from actual people. Keep up the great work.
What a great way to rock your first podcast with an incredible tale of Providence, RI. Being a New Englander I was familiar with Buddy but this podcast really dug in and gives you a real look into the way things were done in the old days. Really enjoyed this and am looking forward to season 2!! Keep up the good work !!!
This podcast was really thrilling and informative.
Ok so maybe I’m late in actually catching up but I’ve got to tell ya I spent two days straight listening and it was fantastic!! The interviews and story telling have me asking where have I been!! Why didn’t I know this!! I am now starting Detroit and looking forward to it. Thank you
Loved Season 1, but have been increasingly frustrated as I hear advertisements for Crimetown on other podcasts and there’s nothing new re. Season 2.
Lost my business, I’m not going to Spotify to listen.
Great content guys. Really great. But even though I'm a subscriber to Spotify and have downloaded all the new episodes, I haven't listened to them because they're not in my normal Podcast app that I open by default. So I haven't heard them yet. I know it's a business decision but I'm hoping it's not irreversable.
I just heard an ad on Reply All saying Crimetown is halfway through season 2, but my app is only showing the first two episodes as available. I love this show, why are the episodes not showing up with I’m subscribed through the Apple podcasts app?
You really have to listen to many dud podcasts before you come upon a gem sometimes. This pod cast is one of them. I love how the episodes are individual yet tied to one another. Looking forward to season two. The hosts do well.
Great content but the beginning, ad reads in the middle, and the end are brutal. So sick of hearing of the exact same thing.
Interesting.... Exciting..... Real.
Bad move gimlet. I don’t want to stream o. Spotify.
I loved the first season of this podcast and am a huge Gimlet media fan, but I can’t support having to go to Spotify to listen to the next season. I don’t want to have to download so many different apps just to listen to podcasts. Hopefully at some point Crimetown will be available!
Rating purely based on Season 2 being Spotify exclusive. If it's not going to be on here, get it out of here.
Wow, I just finished season one and I am speechless! This podcast is not only incredibly engaging and well produced, but covers such a complex entanglement of stories so clearly and in great detail. Easily one of the best podcast series out there. The production value of this series makes you feel like you are at the movies. An absolute must listen. I want to thank the Crimetown team for making my morning and afternoon work commute something I looked forward to!
I absolutely love this podcast. It’s one of the best ones out there. But they moved to Spotify exclusively and I do not like to use Spotify for podcasts. Why? Please cross post at least. Please.
Don’t rely on these guys delivering on time. Won’t happen. 1st season was great but where is the 2nd season? I’m out.
This is well done, very interesting and a lot of fun. The podcast has a narrative that strings together witnesses, participants and press in an entertaining delivery of story after story of the cultures and communities explored. Well worth it!
Loved season 1, and have been waiting for season 2 only to have one episode download and be told I have to use another app, Spotify, to listen. Nope! Hey refuse to download multiple apps to listen to podcasts. I like them all in one place. Boo to Gimlet. Being available on the RSS feed is what makes it a podcast....so Crimetown season 2 is what now??
Can’t get enough of this podcast. Highly recommended
I never thought I could be captivated by a story about political corruption in Providence, RI, during the 70’s and 80’s until the writers, producers, and sound engineers of Crimetown sucked me into the time machine the’ve created with this podcast. I don’t know if Crimetown’s crack production team has plans to give Washington, D.C. in the era of Trump the Crimetown treatment in a future season, but if they do, it promises to be as gripping as the green tentacles in the show’s evocative logo.
I’ve just finished listening to season one of this engrossing show. I am amazed at the reporting that goes into this—the wide range of people interviewed, the spot-on clips from archival footage, the human stories that sit beneath the political story. Every bit as good as NPR.
Took a great show (maybe Gimlet’s best) and ruined it by making it a Spotify Exclusive for season 2.
Similar to season 1, the second season starts off well but eventually ends up lionizing brutal criminals and glorifying their horrible actions.
I’m engrossed. I can’t stop, won’t stop. I’m currently on season and listening to the story of the corrupt mayor of Providence and the New England Mob. I find the wise guy stories to be fascinating. To hear them speak about “the good old days” is at times tongue in cheek and sometimes disturbing. I’m in hook line and sinker for sure and will continue onto Season 2 to hear the Detroit story.
This is perfect for binge listening on road trips of long flights. The 1st season was really great and fun to follow. I’d wait until season 2 is fully available before i start listening. I thought it was all there and I listened to a great 1st episode. Now I have to wait for the rest!!!
Why does season two premiere in October then the podcast goes Radio Silent for 4 months? Season One was great but guess someone died or something because season 2 just stopped without a word
I have lived in RI all my life. This is scary accurate content. Wow.
I really enjoyed Season 1! Great writing, great hosting, and great content. But not great enough for me to switch listening platforms now that it’s Spotify exclusive. Good luck with that!
Season one was absolutely riveting and captivating. If season two is anywhere near as good as season one it’s going to be fantastic.
Great show- one of my favorites. I’m disappointed in their decision to only offer season 2 on Spotify.
This podcast is well done and fills the podcast void for me. Well done!
When is the rest of season two expected?!?!
This show was absolutely riveting! Loved the way they weaved characters in and out. Can’t wait to listen to Season 2!
Loved season 1 but really disappointed season 2 is exclusively on Spotify. Lame, no thank you
Really good podcast, but it’s not available on all platforms.
So great! Where’d it go?
This show is great. A welcome relief from current politics. Really. However, there are so many ads that I’m losing interest. The same ads are repeated ad nauseam at the beginning, middle and end of each episode. Soooo frustrating! Enough already, Gimlet.
What a fascinating and incredibly well produced series. Buddy Cianci at the center of all that is good and bad about Providence, Rhode Island. Told through the voices of Buddy himself, and a host of organized crime figures and the agents who tracked them, in their own voices, the tale is rich and engaging. A bittersweet saga that is part Godfather, and part cops and robbers. If you know nothing about the history of Providence, it is worth learning about. Kudos to everyone involved in producing this!
Will not listen on Spotify
When will season 2 episodes be available?
Growing up in RI, I always heard about Buddy and the Mob in Providence, so I was curious to check out Crimetown. Once I started listening, I was hooked! The storytelling, the characters, the music, the interviews were all incredible. I devoured the first season like a plate of pasta fazool and can’t wait to check out season two! Grazie!
Disappointed it’s only available on another app. That doesn’t work for me. Season 1 was great though. I was looking forward to Detroit.
Listened to season two twice. The story flow was perfect, the music and beats were exciting and just overall a great production. Can’t wait to start season two with new stories and adventures!
Best podcast. Need more episodes!
Hands down, best podcast I’ve ever listened to.
I loved season 1! Where are all of the season 2 episodes though? Only on Spotify? :(
Where is the rest of Season 2? One hit wonder
I like this podcast but will not follow to a different platform. I won’t be unconvinced to get my podcasts in multiple places because of a deal that the producers made with Spotify.
Stories are entertaining and well told, and production and editing make this podcast stand out. But making season 2 a Spotify exclusive? No thanks. I’m love Spotify and am a paid subscriber, but it’s not ideal for podcasts. I’d rather pass than have to use multiple apps for podcasts. Unsubscribed.
This story is compelling to any curious mind. It sheds light on a subject that no one wants to admit; Organized corruption within our government. Is it just a one-off or is this a foreboding tale of American politics?
This was my first podcast and I was addicted. I’m an Italian-American from Providence and it was accurate, descriptive, and light-shedding to say the least. Besides the familiarity of the stories, the podcast dialogue and music painted a picture that I thought was impossible without watching a film. Great experience!
Great podcast. I'm not sure I like what I'm calling the "Gimlet effect" where 1/3 of the content is promos or ads. This is 20 minutes of great storytelling and interviews and over ten minutes of the same ads and self promotion. Irritating when listening to back to back episodes. I'd rather just pay for an ad free version.
Season 1 was one of the best podcast series ever created. But BEWARE: Season 2 is EXCLUSIVE to Spotify besides episode 1. It is setting a VERY BAD PRECEDENT and thus should NOT be supported.
Do Not Pass Go! Do Not Collect $200!! Do Not Bother with a Hearing Ear Dog!!! Go Directly to Crimetown for some of the Best Stories presented in a Most Professional and Entertaining manner imaginable. They deserve the Five Star rating!
What’s up with season 2
This is a great story. Mark and Zach bring in this amazing cast of characters to tell the compelling story of Buddy. Well worth the listen!!! Truly wonderful.
Stopped listening when they went exclusive with Spotify. No thanks
Loved Season 1 and the first episode of Season 2 started well. When I looked for additional episodes for this season, was surprised that they will be on Spotify only. Big mistake .., I will not be listening.
I am hooked! These are some of the best stories I’ve ever heard! I am so sad that I burned through season 1 so quickly. I’ve heard inklings of gangster stories, but hearing it straight from the mouths of these old-school gangsters is something else. I highly recommend this podcast!
Loved season one, but can’t listen to season two since it is not on Apple podcasts. Extremely disappointing.
Season 1 is like a Martin Scorsese movie as radio documentary. Brilliantly told, fasinating stories.
Every episode is so good! The way the characters are brought in, their stories told, and the whole narrative laid out was phenomenal!
I love this podcast and I think Gimlet does an amazing job. My only beef is that Season Two, Episode One came out a month ago (it was excellent) and there is STILL no episode two. I was late on the bus with season one. It was all out when I listened so I could binge. But did episodes in season one trickle out at a once a month, snail’s pace?? Argh?!
This is one the best podcast out there.
Gimlet showing their high standards once again. Their podcasts are always well produced with professional, engaging hosts.
Is it just me or did season 2 start a few weeks ago and then....
There are some great stories here, told primarily by the people involved. I really liked hearing from both sides. Further, it’s all contained in a superb arc and edited very well. If you like mob stories, true crime, or are from the northeast you’ll love it for sure. If you enjoy good storytelling, you’ll love it anyway. I couldn’t help binging season 1. Season 2, on the other hand, is merely good.
Great work with season one. I truly enjoyed everything. I recommend listening. Season 2, aside from the teaser and episode one, is all on Spotify for some reason. That's why I'm giving it a low star rating.
I was hooked from episode 1, and now I’m binge listening!!!
This is the best podcast I’ve heard so far. Great cast of characters, archival material, music and humor. So well done!
I loved listening to this, especially after I discovered the website with all the pictures. I say bring back Buddy Cianci the musical!!
I just finished season 1 of Crimetown. This podcast is professional in nature while providing great content and insight. I look forward to listening to season 2, and more to come.
Love this podcast! The story is so well presented that you get to “know” the individuals involved. I totally want to be friends with Tony Fiore! Best podcast I have listened to by far!
I have lived in RI all my life and my first apartment was on The Hill. I saw so much. But I knew and had to know what to do or say or what not to say or do. However, I was Italian and lived with an Italian family. I never talked about anything that I saw and never told anyone about my heritage. This show brings back some rough memories. But I will never forget
This is one of the best podcasts I have had a chance to listen to. Didn’t ever want to turn it off, thanks Crimetown!!
I can’t say enough about how much I enjoyed this season. I grew up in Rhode Island in the 70’s and 80’s and remember so many of these names and stories. I ate in the restaurants and my mother shopped in the stores on the Hill. She tells a story about how my little brother stole Buddy’s toupee and ran around the fancy East Side salon we went to back then. You guys did a fantastic job of humanising these guys without glorifying their behaviour and presenting details of their stories that I just couldn’t stop listening to. I cried listening to Buddy’s funeral and was fascinated by the additional stories of the wives and kids. Exceptional job! I’m off to buy all the autobiographies on Amazon!
Season 1 of this podcast is exceptional in every aspect. The reporting is top notch in the way all the pieces of all the stories are put together. The sound mixing is amazing in its unique use of music and sound effects that transport the listener. For these reasons and many more, this podcast rightfully deserves a listen.
I love your podcast, but am bummed that your new episodes appear to be exclusive on Spotify. Bummer as I won't be downloading another app just to listen to your show.
I love loved it can’t stop listening. Keep up the great work.
Season 1 is so well done that I listen to the episodes over & over. I’m 3 episodes into Season 2 (my opinion) is it’s just average at best. Overall setup in Season 2 is weaker (limited connection to the culture outside of covering racism angle) & I can take or leave the narrators. Really hope future episodes & seasons match quality of these Providence RI stories.
So they tease with the first episode of seasonn 2, but the rest is only on Spotify? Don’t like it that much. Regardless of the source you choose as your favorite to get your podcasts on, when you go exclusive to one that’s where you lose me. Too many good and new podcasts out there. I was having to get rid of a few subscriptions because I couldn’t keep up. Guess this is another.
This is a good show and I really enjoyed the first season. I also enjoyed the first episode of season two. But the fact that this show is now exclusive to Spotify, I won’t be listening. The podcast interface on Spotify is terrible! So good job gimlet. I love the gimlet shows and have listened from the beginning but if this is a partnership you’re exploring long term I’ll be tuning out. There’s a lot of quality content out there and forcing listeners into one platform, especially one with a terrible UI for podcasts, is just wrong. Good luck with your partnership. Thanks for restricting listening of a good show.
This podcast and became instantly hooked. Very in-depth reporting, great story telling, and true crime, what more could you want?
Just learned about this podcast and cannot put it down.
This is a great Podcast but being streamed exclusively on Spotify for season two is weak. I will not listen on principle.
One of the most interesting and best produced podcasts I have listened to. But I’m not getting Spotify just to listen to it
Apparently you can only subscribe on Spotify. Not installing that just to hear this.
Bummed that you guys cut an exclusive deal with Spotify. I was able to share Season 1 with lots of people, but now those folks won’t be able to listen to Season 2 because they’re not on Spotify, nor will they ever be on Spotify. Is the revenue you’re getting worth the listeners that you’re losing?
I am a true-crime fanatic and a bit of a Mafia buff. This is a must-listen. Told beautifully; great interviews and characters. I don’t know exactly how many seasons there already is, but I can’t wait for them to do my hometown of Philadelphia and my current hometown of Houston.
Loved Season 1. Super bummed Season 2 is only on Spotify. Wwwhhhhyyyyy? I know...$$$. Very disappointed and likely will miss Season 2 as a result.
Excited about the new episode but did I hear correctly that it’s exclusively on Spotify?
Why give anything more than one star if the new season won’t even be on here???
S2 only on Spotify? :/ I won’t be listening on that platform. S1 was great and very entertaining. Had been looking forward to S2.
One of many podcasts that is strong the first season, then drops off the second season. Sounds like an exploitation of Detroit all over again.
Season 1 was so interesting, loved it! The interviews, stories, editing, narration, and the music make this series so addicting. Being from NE I had heard some of the news/talk around the RI crime structure but this was so much great detail and interviews/taped conversations, I learned so much. Can’t wait for season 2!
Grew up there! The podcast helped me understand my vague childhood;)
I really like this podcast but I refuse to go subscribe to Spotify to listen to Season 2. I think that’s foul that you choose to exclusively air Season 2 on there because everyone do not want to have a subscription to Spotify.
What a terrible decision. Maybe there’s a good reason for this but without an explanation Exclusive to Spotify means erased from library. I’ve got nothing against Spotify but all my podcasts are in one place and I’m not going to migrate to a new app for any one of them. I’m seriously considering removing all gimlet podcast from my rotation. See ya later Replay All, Everything Little Thing, StartUp, Uncivil, Heavyweight, etc. Your management is making life harder rather than easier.
This is a poor move to make. Please release to everyone.
Took a chance one night when I had a long drive and I burned through 6 episodes. I respect the effort put into this show. The production and interviews bring together a podcast with atmosphere. I also miss the theme song incredibly.
Incredible and surreal history told with perfect storytelling and quality editing. Probably the best show of this style that I’ve ever listened to. Congrats to producers!
If this was fiction I wouldn’t believe it - too far-fetched. What a great story.
One of the most innovative and creative storytelling experiences I’ve had!
I just came upon this podcast recently and have been listening to the entire thing over a number of workouts in the past couple of weeks. The threads are well told and well constructed. Am looking forward to another season of it! Hopefully that will be soon.
Honestly I thought I knew the whole story but Crimetown just ripped the covers off Providence and it was great. This was such a new journey in a state and a city I lived in that not was it just nostalgic but enlightening. A must listen!
When will you be coming out with season 2? Also, are you letting out what it will be about?
I live in this city (PVD) and have for the past 9 years. I’ve heard some of these stories before in bits and pieces, but some I had never heard of. I lived on Fed Hill for several years and it’s crazy but I nearly know every single place that they mention in these wild stories, just didn’t know what had happened there until listening to this. What a great, entertaining podcast about the history of this little city. Thank you!
Fantastic. Loved this and chomping at the bit for the next season.
We need a continuation from your Bonus RFK tape!!!
It’s produced well but the content isn’t great. Just a bunch of old guys talking about their glory days. No thanks
An outstanding podcast series in every respect. The stories are engaging, the character development in depth and the overall production is a perfect balance of professionalism and drama. I feel like I inhabited the shoes of Buddy, Raymond, Jerry, Bobby and many of the minor characters, and I especially enjoyed the detailed peeks into their family lives. I’ve never been to Providence but I’m looking forward to visiting. Can’t wait for Season 2 from Marc and Zac.
I am a huge fan of this podcast. I am have gotten a lot out of my time listening. I am looking forward to more episodes. I learned so much about a town that is so close to me.
I usually have a hard time with podcasts like this, with a story drawn out over various episodes. But this podcast kept my attention and with the use of actual interviews and the people’s voices to keep them straight in my head, I was able to keep everything straight and keep the thread. And the MUSIC holy crap, the use of music in this podcast is some of the best I’ve ever heard. Superb. I’ve been recommending since I finished.
I am a sucker for true crime podcasts and this one is amazing. Well-researched and great production.
I’ve listened to the first season of Crimetown 3 times now, and it never gets old. I’ve even put my dad on to the show. Can’t wait for season 2!
This is possibly the best podcast I’ve listened to. It’s superbly written and the editing is top-notch. Bonus episodes are actually worth while and the story can’t be beat. Can’t wait for season 2!
Just like all the rest don’t waste your time. First five episodes were thought provoking. Hooked! Then just a let down in the final episode. Wrapped it up in a tidy little bow with a total disregard to Bill and respect for his life work not to mention then obvious fact that Crimetown does not want to be labeled a Conspiracy Theorist podcast. A disservice to History fans and RFK. Disappointing.
Incredible true stories told by the people who lived through them. Extremely well done. I tore through season one and cannot wait for season two.
Crimetown is great. The stories and the people telling them are so interesting. Every episode is very well researched and put together in a clear and entertaining way. I would highly recommend this podcast to anyone.
give me more why is there not more
This is hands down the best podcast ever. I have referred this podcast to several friends like I have done with many podcasts. This is the only one all of them have listened to in their entirety. I can’t wait for season 2.
Content compelling mixed with great music
Deserves insanely good reviews.
The content is kind of hard to follow — but this podcast is such an experience in itself with the on-point music and extra sounds accompanying the clips as well as the carefully thought out timing — you hear the art in podcasting. You become enchanted by the complexity because you feel like you’re there!
My 17 year old son shared this podcast with me on one of our many summer road trips. I just finished the last episode of the first season today and thoroughly enjoyed all of it, particularly as I drove past Providence on my way to and from Cape Cod this summer. Well done! Can’t wait for season two!
These narratives are captivating and well put together. However overall the podcast is overproduced and self-indulgent - too much precious interstitial music, too many recaps, too many self-congratulatory interruptions from the creators. It is also glacially slow - but this can be overcome by listening at 1.5 speed. I hope the second season had fewer whiz-bang features and relies more on the intrigue of the content.
Awesome podcast. Love it!
Don't know how I stumbled across this, but the writeup sounded intriguing. Downloaded it on my iPhone, and was hooked shortly into the first episode! I listen to a couple of episodes on my daily walks, and I can honestly say, this is an incredible, well-structured storyline. Thank you, Gimlet, and hosts Mark Smerling and Zach Stuart Pontiere! (unknown of correct spelling....but you can tell me stories any time!)
Seriously - This podcast is well produced and tells an incredible story. I’m jealous of listeners who get to hear it for the first time! If you don’t know what a podcast is - START HERE.
Couldn’t listen fast enough! You feel like you personally know the characters in the story! So fun to listen to
I listen to lots of podcasts. This is one of the best written, most engaging, entertaining of them all.
Listening to the story of Providence and it’s colorful past was amazing, hard to put it down and stop listening. The “characters” were larger than life and something out of a movie except that they were real. Great production and engaging content. Can’t wait for the next season.
A coworker recommended I check out this podcast and I couldn’t be happier that they did! The podcast does a great job at getting so many perspectives of those involved! I would highly recommend it!
Started listening on a friend’s recommendation and I was hooked immediately. Engaging subjects and people, superb storytelling, and great audio. Thanks for putting this together, I can’t wait to hear more.
One of the best podcasts I have ever heard. Amazing storytelling, terrific content, fabulous music. It is top quality. Hated for it to end.
I throughly enjoyed this too amazing to be true reversal of fortune dramedy. The characters are out of a Martin Scorsese script but more entertaining because they are real. How is this not a movie?!?!? Excellent story telling.
Awesome podcast....great story!
What a great & fascinating Podcast! Done very well!!
not sure what we’re supposed to get out of this beyond the fact that white people can get away with anything and we’re supposed to empathize with them. no thanks (p.s. this review is brought to you by a regular crappy white person)
Great podcast but I feel like I’ve been waiting an eternity for season 2!! Would love to hear about MA corruption too.
I’ve recently discovered the Crimetown podcast and I’m hooked. I’m listening from the beginning and it’s extremely well produced. Loading up my phone with episodes and I find myself absolutely zoned into each chapter.
This podcast is so well written and so well produced. So many times I listen to a true crime podcast and wish I could hear the voices, or see pictures of the subjects in relation to the story. To be able to go to the website and see how well put together it is compared to the podcast is awesome. This podcast gives you everything you could want when listening to the story being told. Well done!
Great stories and soundtrack !
I am from Providence! I live in North Providence now and I wish the talked about this in schools! This is the dark history of this state and we all deserve to know.
Speaking just of the main episodes, I am so impressed with the scope and lack of bias in this series. I honestly cried when Buddy died; who would have thought a podcast would have stayed so objective and presented him as a flawed human and not a boogeyman? Take your time and savor these episodes since it seems like it’s all done.
Love Season 1 on Providence RI. Having grown up in RI ten minutes from Providence, all of these stories have me rolling over in laughter. I remember the people and the places. There is nothing funny about the reputation of Federal Hill or the corruption, but I haven’t lived there in forty years... I’m just finding it ironic that this stuff has made true crime. Additionally I’m learning some of the background info that I didn’t know.
I moved to Providence for work. A friend who grew up in Cranston told me I should listen to this podcast because it would explain so much. I’ve listened through this series 3 times now. I can’t recommend it enough.
I love Crimetown! It gives me lots of "driveway moments" - times when it takes alot of discipline to turn it off in order to work, go into the house, etc. Also, who doesn't love hours and hours of the wise guy accent, telling true stories of the Mob?!?
loved the providence season!
As someone who listens to podcasts all day, every day, I have to say that Crimetown is the very best researched and produced series that I have listened to. Crimetown has amazing stories and equally amazing characters. You fall in love with the dames, you root for the females that get involved in politics (especially 'Atillia the Nun'), you want to be at the parties, you want to be in the crew... It's that good. Go ahead and subscribe, you cannot be disappointed.
Instantly hooked from the first episode!
I just happened upon this podcast and I’m so glad I did! My dad grew up in Woonsocket RI, and my grandparents lived there for their entire lives. I grew up visiting the state where they had funny names for normal things (cabinets instead of milkshakes) and yummy treats that could t be found anywhere else (chowder & clamcakes, coffee milk, Dell’s lemonade). I always felt a connection to RI and decided to go to college in Providence (go Friars!). There were always rumors about the mafia ties and jokes about the city having the only mayor who, as a convicted felon, couldn’t vote in his own election. I was there when they uncovered the river, and when they built Providence Place Mall. I witnessed the transformation. This podcast captured the true spirit of RI - a close-knit state where everyone knows everyone and people rarely leave (or even drive across the state - the long way!). I even got choked up during the final episode, maybe because my grandparents have passed away and my dad is one of the rare Rhode Islanders that moved out of state as an adult. I don’t have a reason to visit, and that makes me sad - something I didn’t even realize until I listened to this podcast. Thank you for doing the state (and city) justice.
I grew up in Providence, and when I left I would describe it as, "The place where people re-elected a convicted felon." This is an incredible podcast, and is connecting dots for me in a way I never could have as a kid. THANK YOU
Truly amazing storytelling - found this Pod through the RFK Tapes, and couldn’t stop listening to it, maybe something about my Italian roots. Great job Gimlet!
I grew up in Providence, went to school with mobsters kids, worked summer jobs in mob-run business, and this podcast is D-E-D on! (Any one who knew Buddy know "D-E-D.") The only thing that's missing is the WPRO-FM version of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" that played after Mista Mayor went to jail called "Buddy C." If the folks at Gimlet could find it and post it I would be eternally grateful.
I really enjoyed this podcast and was sad when it was done! Buddy Cianci sure lived an interesting life! Well done and highly recommended!
Love this podcast. So smart.
I moved to Washington DC in 1984, during the other “Mayor for life” Marion Barry’s reign and dated a great guy from Providence, RI. Along with his inability to say “sawhorse”, he regaled me with Providence political stories, tales of corruption and Buddy Cianci. Listening to this took me back, and covered in more depth his stories and filled in the years since. This is an outstanding podcast and if next season is as good as the first we are in for a great ride. PS consider Marion Berry as a future story, everyone who lived there during that time has stories, much like Buddy.
I loved the first season of this podcast and enthusiastically await its return! I know I’ll have to be patient because the documentary-style (not stuffy or boring!) influence on the podcast is both obvious and a lot of work to achieve... Incredible integration of a musical score in the production of the podcast! Love the authenticity of listening to all of the interviewees—they’re such characters, and yet not caricatures. Can’t wait to find out which city is next up for dissection...
I just found the podcast through other Gimlet podcasts and I'm really enjoying it! I love the true crime stories.
Amazing podcast. Gripping, suspenseful, keeps you at the edge of your seat. Relevant for anyone who loves crime, mafia, politics (think goodfellas, casino, heat) Done really well. Top 3 podcasts of all time for me 5/5
These guys just let people tell their stories and it’s so well done. One of the best podcasts!
I really enjoy these crime podcasts and a lot of them are so poorly done they’re unlistenable, but the story and production of crimetown are excellent.
This podcast can be summarized in one word FANTASTIC! Really recommend it! I love the music!
The stories are great, with a perfect narrative thread and excellent writing. They know how to let subjects tell their own version of events. It’s colorful, unabashed fun. The music is perfect and the production quality is top notch. My only complaint is I can’t wait for more.
This is phenomenal storytelling. This town and its characters are interesting and this podcast does a great job of telling connected stories. Bravo.
I cannot overstate how much I love this podcast. The story is amazing and crazy and it’s like watching an awesome mob boss TV show with romance, BROmance, murders & theft, power and prestige. I love all the personalities. AND I love that the website offers you a list of “characters.” The production quality is amazing - I feel like I’m listening to a big budget audio documentary. The music is amazing. The sounds “acted out” what happened at that time in the story - it made it feel like listening to a movie. Truly a fan for life. I’m already planning on re-listening from the beginning, and I just finished today.
This has to be one of the best podcasts I’ve ever listened to. It’s incredibly detailed and fully immerses you into the stories.
What a show! I was hooked, and listened through every episode in 3 days. I’m excited for season 2
Best podcast I have ever listened too, the story telling would not let you put it down!!! Looking forward to season 2.
I have listened to the first season three times, and heading into my fourth. The framing of the story is unique, instinctive and human. The portrayal of community is raw, and reflects politics at the state level that, in different degrees, we all recognize. Couldn’t recommend it more.
Simply a fantastic story told incredibly well. I found myself driving past my house multiple times to finish episodes. Can not wait for the second season
Man, this podcast is fantastic. I mean, I am so invested in the story line, the people involved. The soundtrack is perfect. Highly recommend this. I always loved old Mob stories and I love hearing stories about it that even crept pretty close to our modern day. Just listen to it already!
Informative and entertaining!
Knowing all the players this was a great podcast and eye opening
My husband and I loved this podcast!
One of the best podcasts I’ve listened to! Their voices are great. This might be weird but important to me. Keep them coming!
One of the best true crime podcasts I've ever heard
Crime Town has been thoroughly entertaining. Glad a new podcast is starting back up.
Super interesting! I couldn’t get enough of the mob stories. I hope they are planning season 2!
Very disappointing that the show gave a voice to a nonsense conspiracy theory. Thought this show was something different.
So good, the next episode I listened to after I finished Season 1 was back to the first episode! Second time is even better 😀
Great, compelling stories. Superbly produced.
I’m not a particular fan of Mafia and gangster shows, podcast, and books because they are silly for the most part. This is, on the other hand, is an exquisite example of the personalities and lives of the people you like to think aren’t your neighbors, your friends, and the guy walking behind you tonight. Outside of the “criminal world” it’s hard to find a better representation of the people and policies that create the monsters you fear and control your life. If you’re idea of fun is watching My Little Pony though, you should probably just stick to that.
If you love great true stories you will love crime town. Crime town tells interesting stories and has great music!
Absolutely hooked on Crimetown. I’m telling everyone “You’ve go to listen. You’ll be hooked too!”
Crimetown tells a gripping true-life story that is fascinating. Great job! I can't wait for Season 2!
The content is so interesting. I love that we get the perspectives from everyone, it’s not so much good versus bad; but just this is how it was. Absolutely fascinating!
I’m pretty late to the whole podcast craze. My cousin recommended this show to me and I started listening on a recent road trip. After the first episode I was hooked! And I want more! The content was fascinating and every episode pulled me into a world that I’ve never known. Well done!
Smart, snarky and unabashedly sinful. Love this show. Can’t wait for season 2. Chicago?
Love the podcast. I cannot wait to listen to it. So fascinating. Describes the characters in such a lively way one can actually visualize, almost smell them, definitely hear them. The characters, their stories, are presented in a way that pulls the listener into that world. I have only been in Providence once, to visit a family member, but I had no idea what was behind the facade. Thanks for showing us the real Providence.
Really enjoy this podcast! Subject matter is great as well as the hosts!
When is season 2 being released?
Honestly, I could not stop listening to this podcast! The stories are painstakingly pieced together and you find yourself becoming attached to each of the characters.
I have just finished the season in Rhode Island, late to the game, but loved it.
Boo on the musical... or I guess it's just not my bag...
This is the podcast that made me love podcasts. Thanks!
Binge listening the first season - the silver lining to coming to Crimetown late-ish
Edge-of-your-seat crime tales from Providence, Rhode Island. Organized crime dominates a city and corrupts its political machinations at the highest levels. True incidents described in shocking detail by those who took part in the action. Must be heard to be believed.
I love it!!! Very well told and all the details that went into the story telling keep me wanting more after the end of every episode
I find myself taking the long way just to squeeze in a few more minutes of this series in my car. A true crime masterpiece. And for mob story lovers, a MUST. Can’t wait for season 2...
I loved everything about Crimetown’s first season. What’s next, and when? Keep ‘em coming!
I was addicted to CrimeTown! I was listening to it every single chance I got so I could know more. I loved how they mixed in old tapes with real interviews with flashbacks to TV commercials... it was perfectly pieced together. Bring on season 2, I can’t wait!!!
This is a fantastic podcast. The storytelling keeps you coming back for more.
The best podcast ever. As a native Rhode Islander, I find it fascinating. Outstanding job.
Writing, editing, and music masterfully done.
I love EVERYTHING about Crimetown. The narration, the insights, the interviews, the editing, the music! Mind=Blown
As someone who grew up in RI this is awesome!
Crimetown is a great listen! It is phenomenal to realize while listening that these events actually occurred. The main players have very interesting stories that make the show flow nicely. Also, being that the episodes are 30 minutes makes it perfect for a commute versus stopping a chapter book.
One of the best podcasts ever. So entertaining and informative. Now I'm hooked on Gillette Media. Try Uncivil next!
Very informative, I can’t wait for season 2.
i went to college in providence and always heard about buddy cianci and the way the mob ruled providence but i never really understood it till now-- this show is so fun, so well produced and reported and the soundtrack is amazing! you will be riveted! i cant wait for the next season :)
This is too addictive n i want season 2 fix
And I’ve listened to a LOT of podcasts (and host one). Beautifully produced, excellent reporting, engaging stories, great music and sound effects. Incredible all around.
It would be better if they actually started the second season like they keep talking about. Actually unsubscribed because of all the bonus stuff. Come on get to the second season already!
Not sure what their budget was but you would not know that this was not a high budget network TV level production. I hope they come out with season 2.
Great job ,starts a little slow then it gets its hooks into you. Seems to be fairly accurate and totally enjoyable.
I’ve listened to season 1, 3 times. I’m losing my mind! Gimmie more, please!
Finally, something about my home state! These stories are incredible, and it’s so strange to hear about places where you’ve been since you were little, like the Providence Place Mall. Keep it up, Gimlet!
I knew almost nothing about Providence prior to listening to this podcast, so keeping track of the looooooong list of characters was a challenge but well worth it! Great storytelling with interviews and news clips keeps me entertained during every episode.
One of the top 5 best podcasts all-time!! The fact that this crazy Story is true makes it so interesting that you can’t stop listening. No matter how you feel about Buddy you will still find the material fascinating and unbelievable. The production quality is amazing and I personally enjoyed it just as much or more than any movie or TV show on the same subject. Enjoy!
Absolutely love this show! I just discovered this show this week and I am hooked. Very well done!! Can’t wait to listen to the bonus episodes and of course Season 2😁
Looking forward to a another Season from Gimlet 🙌🏾
I've been looking for a podcast following true crime stories. This does not dissapoint. Unfortunately, I have to get out of my car occassionally to go to work...I want to sit and listen instead. Well done!
I binge listened to Season 1! I couldn’t stop! So interesting! The music was wonderful and fit so well throughout the whole season! Can’t wait for more!
I subscribed to this podcast after several recommendations. I have not been disappointed! I am only 6 episodes in and I’m hooked! Phenomenal storytelling: through both the narration and manner in which the original individuals involved are connected to each other.
Great for commutes
I’ve listened to every episode and have been utterly impressed with the high quality production! Sound design, research, you name it... superb podcast. Thank you so much to all the Crimetown staff for the incredible work and committment.
amazing podcast, i love listening to it during my commute! i love history and id been looking for a history podcast for a really long time- my friend recommended this, and the rest is history! hands down one of the best podcasts I've ever listened to.
Such a great mix of stories and voices. For a small state RI has an amazing story that needs to be heard! The crew does a great job of mixing songs, FBI tapes, interviews and their own voices in this podcast. The best and most interesting “criminal” podcast I’ve listening to to date! Thanks for shining a light on a very deserving place!
First Gimlet Podcast I ever heard. Best Podcast ever. Content is facinating. Story line is laid out proper. Production is superb. Sound effects are on point and entertaining. First Gimlet Podcast I ever heard. All in all magnificent. Best Podcast ever. Story line is laid out proper. Production is superb. Sound effects are on point and entertaining. Only thing I would do is place all of the bonus episodes mid way so the last podcast in the series woud be "The Prince of Providence"... They are kinda anti climactic where they are.
I was getting pretty good with the Jersey talk then the episodes stopped. Sad.
Great storytelling. Great production values. Amazing work. I am just starting to listen to and write about podcasts for a newspaper column. I keep trying to move on to other podcasts but this one has me so hooked I have to binge my way through all of it!!
I’ve told stories for a living for nearly 30 years now. It is part of the fabric of my being. Crimetown is storytelling at its best. It is a fascinating and addictive look at government corruption at its core. At the fallibility of man and the seduction of power. It has a sweeping story arc that takes its (real-life) characters on their journeys from good to bad and in some cases back again. I was mesmerized hearing from the actual men and women who lived it and by the storytellers guiding me through it all. The wait for season 2 is excruciating!
I just can’t say enough about this podcast. I learned about it from an Uber driver while traveling in Nashville. He made me promise to commit to listening before I got out of the car. He explained to me that he tuned in with his band mates while touring. When they reached their destination, they stayed in the van in the driveway so they could hear the end of the episode. I was intrigued. Having gone to Providence College, I definitely have schema for the content, but I think anyone would find it fascinating. I have recommended it to many friends and they too are obsessed. Thank you Gimlet for providing such fascinating insight into a world that I knew was part of the fabric of Providence, but the extent to which I had no idea. Very well done!
Well done podcast and they do a great job telling the multi character story without confusing the listener. Now I think I’ll try to find The Jjnx.
My only complaints are the ads at the start and half way through and that I wish it was an hour long over the half hour.
....WHY ARE YOU MAKING ME WAIT?? Let’s get to it people. More Crimetown, more Embedded, more Planet Money All great stuff for: 1) daily dog walks 2) drives to VT (kid in college) 3) drives to VA (kid in college) 4) drives to MD (alma mater - Go Mount!)
This is the only podcast I’ve listened to twice. Thanks for the hard work!
Great interviews. Great production. Great narration. Great insight. FIVE STAHHHHSSSS! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Can’t wait to hear the next season 🙌🏼 Great production, great journalism. Brought insight to the hot topics of the time to those of us who don’t know. Good job guys✨👍🏼
This whole series is simply remarkable, and proves that there is no inevitable conflict between entertainment and nuanced substance. This podcast is both riveting and immensely informative and authentic. And the production values are in the 99th percentile!
I'm from RI and I heard people rave about this podcast to me for a year before I decided to give it a try. It was listenable enough: the featured characters were complex, the situations were amusing, the research and journalism were solid, and who doesn't like a show about crime and drugs that show alternative moral frameworks in which it's easy to see that the police and elected officials are just as thuggish and corrupt as anyone else. But the overwhelming nonsense and flat finish leave it at 2 stars for me. The overproduction was a joke (do we really need the soundeffects of a car when the story is about a car? give me a break!). The episodes were much more superficial than the rich stories they tried to convey. And most of all, the conclusion was pathetic and analytically, well, absent. After 18 episodes all they can come up with is the same tired trope of Providence being a city with two sides, (they even said "a light and a dark side") represented by two hills, and Buddy as as a janus-faced jekyll and Hyde character. We already knew this by the 3rd episode, if not earlier. The conclusion is hackneyed at best. And the research ethics of the "journalists" (who express excited that, if Buddy died, they would have been there for his last speech!!) is lamentable.
Exceptionally produced and well researched. The hosts provide exceptional insight into what happened in Providence in the last century. Loved every episode and can't wait to see what else they bring to the table.
I’ve told EVERYONE that will listen, this is the best produced podcast I’ve heard. The perfect blend and usage of interviews, sound clips, and narration. Well done, can’t wait for the next season!
Loved every episode and it is true which makes it so much better than a crime novel!
Love this podcast! Actually look forward to commuting because of it!
This is exactly what I have been looking for, every episode including the Bonus episodes were Fantastic!! Thank you..
Excellent Podcast with the perfect mix of humor and information. Excellent reporting and music; outstanding story telling that had me binge the entire season.
OMG!!! This is more addictive. The actual commentary from the actual characters is AMAZING! This is must listen to podcasting. I cannot wait to hear Season 2.
Well researched. Well produced. And compelling story telling. Podcast is more than entertaining. You really feel like you have walked a mile with those featured in their episodes. Can’t wait for season 2!!!!!
This is hands down my favorite podcast. The storytelling is so engaging and I love the interviews. Can't wait to see what's next!
From the moment the music began to the editing credits, I was transfixed during the first episode and was throughout the first season. This is a podcast that excels in every aspect - storytelling, interviews, suspense, narration, and music...I eagerly look forward to season 2.
My husband and I would listen during the day and couldn’t wait to get home and discuss the story. It was incredible! I loved feeling like i got a peek into this crazy world I know nothing about. I cannot wait for season 2!
This is absolutely fascinating! I’m not finished with season 1 and am already looking forward to season 2!
I have been listening to this podcast over the last couple weeks off and on - I'm on chapter 10. I have to say I can't keep any of the characters straight and the plot is totally schitzophrenic. One episode I am listening about the mayor, ntext episode, some random mob guy - I can't tell one from the other. Last I heard of buddy he was crying over his wife having an affair with the contractor. My podcast might have slipped past that episode, but I have no idea what happened to that story line. Back to guys breaking into safes, murdering people for no good reason and going to jail. I would have liked this podcast had it made more sense, but listening to what thugs do is getting boring. I lived in South Boston for a summer in the late 70s. I remember how scary and creepy people were back then. My friend's dad was supposed to have worked for the mob. I don't know - all the men were tough and scary. Hopefuly those days are over. But would like to find out whatever happened to buddy, not the rest of this stuff.
I love mob-related or inspired stories. This podcast helps me expand my favorite genre from films, TV shows and books. The storytelling is filled with local color as well as kneecap-cracking action. It’s my new podcast addiction. What’re ya gonna do?
Riveting podcast. Thank you for this. Love the show
Excellent podcast. It is definitely binge worthy
Incredible job on this podcast. The story just grabs you and you want more, the interviews are outstanding 100% recommend!!
Keep them coming. These are good.
Loved every episode, can’t wait for the new season.
Absolutely fantastic. Narrative, music and production are great!! If you like crime lord/Mafia. You will love this!!
This show is really well done! I wish ALL podcasts were this good..
Great story, interviews, production and music - my husband and I looked forward to every episode!
Really intriguing stuff. I moved to Rhode Island for college and was living in Providence for the last eight months of Buddy Cianci’s first term, but was pretty oblivious beyond what was happening in school. It’s fascinating to hear these stories, especially recordings of people who were involved. Every episode includes credits; when they mention the “podfather,” they include a quote from that episode, which always amuses me. I’m sorry I missed the Buddy Cianci musical. It sounds like fun.
Love this podcast! The episode lengths aren’t too long and the stories are captivating. Highly recommended!
I haven’t watched it yet so I will
This is incisive and funny and just an amazing portrayal of criminal figures in a golden age of the underworld.
Well done fascinating look into real time crime.
Excellent content and flow!!
I just finished Crimetown and it had me longing for another mafia genre movie binge ending with The Godfather 1 & 2. Great story about a colorful character and the city that loved him...Great podcast that I’ve been telling everyone to listen to...Good Job!
A piece of art. Every story is different but all ties back to The One, numero uno.
This is by far, the most fascinating tale of organized crime that I’ve ever heard.
Crimetown is every mob story rolled into one. It’s addictive at every turn. Once you start episode one, 12 hours later you’ll still be listening.
Great story, extremely well told and engaging
It’s too long with too little information per episode and entirely over produced with sound effects. The 33 minute episode could have been told in 10 minutes.
The chain of events that led me to discover this podcast, a car accident at noon in July in Arizona led to a car replacement search. I stumble upon a wagon in Warwick. What the team has accomplished with this bit of work is phenomenal. Congrats! I predict awards.
I love it! I went to college in the early 90’s in Providence and lived on Federal Hill the 1st 2 years.. It is so interesting to hear the history of how things happened. I remember walking home one night and there was a hit happened right at the arch. I honestly didn’t know it was a hit till I read it in the paper the next day. Locals were always really nice to us college students... Awesome Podcast!!! Great detail.
New Years Resolution: finally leave reviews for at least your top 50 podcasts. They give you way too much free entertainment. The least you can do is leave them a quick review. New Years Reality: I listen to 50+ exceptional podcasts. I don’t have time to write that many reviews. New Years Solution: Leave this cookie-cutter review for the few(ish) podcasts you love. Only review the ones you would (or have) recommended to people in real life. Review Note: I have listened to hundreds of podcasts, this is (in my humble opinion) the best of the best. Download, enjoy, and then recommend widely.
I have one more episode left in this podcast and then I'll be all caught up. I seriously cannot wait for season 2! Can't get enough of it!!
Good story telling. It's the mob. Whats not to love? I think I just listened to my 11th episode this week.
Great for listening to while cleaning the house or driving.
Crimetown is the long lost prequel to your favorite mob flick or political thriller, except true and better. Every well-worn crime archetype, from taking down the biggest inmate on your first day to the Mayor pocketing millions in City cash - came from this.
Crimetown is so richly layered, with such high production values, Coppola would be proud to have produced and directed it.
I’ve listened to lots of the crime related shows but this is hands down my favorite podcast. Keep up the good work, it will be hard to pick a better story than “Buddy”!
Love it but I think they should put buddy’s musical on iTunes
Great Podcast!!! Season 2 should be a bang
Wonderful insight to the seedy underbelly of Providence. Can’t wait for season 2!
Highly recommend! I enjoyed it even more than serial!!
Great podcast - well done. 100% worth the time to listen.
As good as it gets!
I loved listening to this podcast. I am a sucker for a good mob story, and I Love American history, so this was really made for me. I loved the flow of the stories, the different perspectives, and the honesty. One of my favorite podcasts since the original Serial.
Listening to each episode feels like watching Goodfellas for the first time.
Gimlet Media does great work with Podcasts and this is one of the best. High quality true crime story telling.
I liked this so much I’m willing to ignore the f bombs and other things. It is so well done and you just get pulled into the stories of wise guys and those around them. I loved loved loved the story about the mayor. I loved the use of archival recordings and the editing is amazing (listen to enough poorly edited shows, yeah). I’ve learned something about Providence, RI and its history that I wouldn’t have gone seeking on my own.
Really great storytelling. For anybody fascinated by the mob, this is the podcast for you. These stories are straight out of The Godfather or Goodfellas - but they’re all real. Totally addicting! On top of that, this podcast has a GREAT soundtrack.
I loved Season #1! Can't wait for Season #2!
My husbands first podcast! We listened together! Sorry it ended! Loved it!
One of my favorites!
So well connected and scored. I enjoy the main storyline and fell in love with the intertwined tales of each mobster. The truth behind these multi-faceted stories is simply incredible...the kind of stuff you wouldn’t believe if it wasn’t a first hand account. Well done.
What an incredible story. You just can’t make this stuff up. Literally, best podcast I’ve listened to.
So. Well. Done.
A great show , very much enjoyed the run!
Production and storytelling are first class. Awesome
Simply the best story tellers in all of podcastdome
I just started getting into podcasts and this is the best so far! Well told, and very entertaining.
Can't wait for the next season
This show’s first season is a full plunge into Providence’s underworld. Some of the episodes are positively cinematic. I can’t wait to see which town they explore in Season 2.
This is the best podcast, great interviews, awesome music scores and real people that have been all tied together. Waiting for more.
Riviting, couldn't wait for the next episode to drop.
I loved the story and narration.....but the music in this podcast was like nails on a chalkboard! I love music and a good podcast soundtrack, but this particular music induced instant agitation. It was very harsh and distracting...and there was so much of it! I’m hoping there is much less of that noise next season because I can’t safely fast forward through those parts while I’m driving.
This show was mesmerizing; I could not stop listening! I binged it in 2 days. Very well written and presented; I highly recommend it!
Seriously a great production. The story and delivery of this had me sad when it came to an end! A must.
Enjoy this podcast with its vast stories and the fact that it's all real makes it that much better.
Best podcast series I have ever listened to. Can’t wait for next season
Love this! The whole thing! I wish there were more episodes!!
Gimlet is simply the best podcast producer in the business. Try to listen to this and not get hooked!
Blew through season one! Told everybody to listen!! Must have more!!!!
Informative, excellent information
Every Gimlet Media production I subscribe to is, hands down, the very best. I mean the very best in fact-checking, musical enhancements, audio quality and the storyline. Crimetown is their best Podcast yet...I can’t wait for Season 2! If you are a Gimlet fan, check out their “Reply All”....it’s just terrific!
Gimlet does it again, another podcast that your won't want to put down.
Season 1 was fantastic. Looking forward to season 2!
I binge listened while doing a home improvement project and next thing I knew half the day was gone. Fascinating, and well produced. Can’t wait for season 2 tomorrow.
It’s interesting, the production is great, but I get a really icky hearing people describe mob bosses as “a good man.” Good to whom? Certainly not the people terrorized by mafia violence and murdered.
I have been binging on this podcast, listening to episode after episode of season 1! A friend recommended it to me, and I recommend this to you! You will not be disappointed. Can’t wait for season 2!
Very well produced, interesting, and entertaining
What a spectacular show. Well done. As a Providence native born and raised What a historic remembrance. Professionally done and well organized. Once I started listening I couldn’t stop! I once had the pleasure of flying home from Florida with Buddy and Joe Paolino... let’s just say it was a flight I will remember forever. Two great mayors of my hometown sharing the love and dedication for the place I called Home for many years.... BRAVO!
Season 1 was so great. Can’t wait for season 2.
So looking forward to season Two. Season one was quite an eye opener.
Super interesting. Can’t wait for another season!
I started listening to this podcast because of the cross-pollination from 'Up and Vanished'. This podcast is every bit as riveting, and 100 times better directed and produced. Super engaging and they do a great job developing and cycling through the characters. One of the best podcasts I've listened to for the quality narrative, interesting characters, and solid production. I'm a fan. Can't wait til next season.
Greatly enjoyed listening to this show and can't wait until the next one!
Begin listening while walking at local university. Found it fascinating, I have always been intrigued by human nature, this was a smorgasbord of human frailties and bents. Truly found myself anticipating my next walk so I could listen to the next chapter. Loved the reunion show at the end. Eagerly waiting for next series.
Another spectacular podcast by gimlet media. Great production. Great story telling. Definitely worth your time.
Every episode immersed you into an audible idiosyncrasy of life in crime. It hooks right in from the opening song to the end of the episode. Great for binge listening.
I find myself saying this all the time for some reason. Wonderful podcast!!
This was a great listen!
I never thought I would be dragged into Mafia nostalgia, but now I find myself craving more! The interviews with those related were gripping and the story that unfolded was impossible not to binge. I’m really so impatient for a second season from this team!
Fantastic!!! Could not stop listening! Listened to Buddy and the gang during dog walks, traffic, and lunch breaks!
So well done. Incredible production values dynamite sound track the story
Could not stop listening.
Well done. Couldn't stop listening.
Just finished the first season, and wow what a fun listen. Great production value, music and storyline.
From the first episode, you can tell this isn’t just any true crime podcast. There’s something special here. It isn’t about one specific crime or mystery. It’s about how crime intersects with a city, buries itself deep until only certain kinds of people can grow. It’s about Buddy Cianci. The mob. The police. It’s a fair and intimate portrait of all of them. It’s worth your time.
I need more... been patiently waiting, now craving for more.. I highly recommend this Beautiful story telling, from the best voice actors known to man... keep up the great work... oh yeah, eyes need more boss
I love this podcast and have binged it crazy hard! Keep up the good work, y'all!
I binged listened to the series in two days - I couldn’t put it down!!! ... By the end of the season I fell in love with the characters ... excellent, informative and entertaining ... the mayor - OMG - I wish I’d known him ... waiting on season two!
Excellent production and story telling.
This is awesome! This Podcast is awesome. The Attention to detail, the presentation, the production was Great!! I love it! I really look forward to listening to another Crimetown story! I hated finishing this Podcast. Lol. I never wanted it to end
Just started listening to it since I’ve been stuck at home fight off a cold. It’s all I did for a few days, laid in bed listening to episode after episode. I can’t recommend this podcast enough. Thank you guys and girls for producing such an amazing product. Mahalo from Oahu!
Is wonderful! I work a night job in Providence and I listen to the podcasts on my way to work. The series gives me a new perspective on the city where I work, where my mother was born. I'm really looking forward to season 2. I knew some of the darker history of the city but hearing the story from those involved makes the story come alive.
Thoroughly enjoyed this. Well written and produced.
I loved this podcast. So well done and the first podcast I finished in less than a week. I'm so looking forward to more.
Interviews are fascinating, storyline is well executed, and the music is well appointed.
Loved season one.
So many interesting (and corrupt) stories from different people. All told so well and just fun to listen to!
One of the best podcasts I’ve listened too.
Crimetown is a very fun listen, while simultaneously a very frightening listen. Very well written and researched I would recommend it to anyone.
This podcast is one of the best written and produced shows I have ever had the pleasure to listen to. It is so smartly put together while being genuinely entertaining! - Just sit back and enjoy the ride!!
Crimetown is true to Providence and to its people. As a New Englander I enjoyed hearing of places I know and stories I had heard as a kid living just outside of RI - there is even a brief moment they mention my hometown. Great podcast. Can not wait to see what you showcase in Season 2
The narrative, the interviews, the music, the real-life characters… this true crime story puts it all together perfectly. Serial is good, but this is better. Alex Blumberg is the Podfather!
I may have a unique perspective on this podcast given my age - 50 - and having grown up in the greater Providence area - Attleboro. I have recently relocated back to his neck of the woods after twenty years living in Cambridge, MA and sharing tales of the Providence of the 80's and 90's. Once settled back in the area - for now in Seekonk - and having devoured Mike Stanton's book, "The Prince of Providence," this podcast may as well have been delivered by the "Welcome Wagon." It was informative, insightful and well-paced and served as the perfect companion to the book to remind me once again of what a truly unique character the capital of the Ocean State has. Bravo! I may not have the personal history with the next city you profile but I'll be anxious to see you take a new location on knowing how well you did with this one.
Edge of your seat stuff
Addicting and approachable, even for people like myself who aren't typically tolerant of violence. The storytelling and production is top notch. I'm captivated and can't wait for season two!
Wasn’t sure about this at first but it is fantastic! All the back story and twists and turns are fascinating.
I adore this podcast - very very good!
This is by far my favorite true crime podcast! It’s like the Sopranos, except it’s a true story. So interesting and beautifully told!
Crimetown is my new favorite. After the first two episode I was completely hooked!
Very interesting in podcast.
