Aggregated reviews for Daniel and Jorge Explain the Universe

A fun-filled discussion of the big, mind-blowing, unanswered questions about the Universe. In each episode, Daniel Whiteson (a Physicist who works at CERN) and Jorge Cham (a popular online cartoonist) discuss some of the simple but profound questions that people have been wondering about for thousands of years, explaining the science in a fun, shorts-wearing and jargon-free way.

Made-up pseudoscience on parade...   (1/5)

On a current episode Dr. Whiteson admits both that the LHC only exists because of lies told to the US Congress (by someone Dr. Whiteson regularly calls out as a fraud) that the Texas particle-accelerator wouldn't work, then admits that he profits from those lies by working with the LHC. He is a liar, a fraud, and his open admissions of such on this podcast should be enough to have him fired if he worked for a reputable university. But he only works for UC-Irvine, a bottom-tier "university" that is desperate for anyone with a "Dr." In front of their name, no matter how disreputable they are. Dr. Whiteson's involvement somehow puts them below DeVry for physics research. "Dr." Whiteson has me convinced that UCI would hire a McDonad's fry cook for a tenured physics position simply because the heat involved in cooking a dry grease patty is equivalent to understanding the Big Bang. This podcast has alternately acknowledged that Mars has minimal atmosphere (due to little-to-no magentophere), then claimed that it does, then acknowledged that Mars has minimal atmosphere again just because they acknowledge creepy, stalkerish, crushes on Matt Damon. They don't care about science, they only care about what mental-image helps them get through the, begrudging, annual love-making session with their wives. They openly state that they are racist anglophiles (despite one of them being South American) and they have no place in Science. Why does this matter? The inciting incident of "The Martian" is the massive wind storm that separates Matt Damon from his team, injures him, and ruins most of the habitat. The end of the movie relies on Matt Damon taking advantage of the fact that Mars has minimal atmosphere to launch himself into space and get to a return vehicle... The fact that Mars has minimal atmosphere means that the inciting wind storm is impossible on Mars. Matt Damon couldn't have been impaled, his team wouldn't have had to leave, so there is no movie without acknowledging that Mars' atmosphere is too thin to have that kind of windstorm. I wrote to Dr. Whiteson about this via email on May 20, 2020, specifically in regard to the dangers of pop-science. I asked him about "The Martian", and his misrepresentation of facts, and I framed it against Dr. Tyson's correcting of the stars in "Titanic" versus how it paints a genuine hero, William Murdoc, as a cowardly murderer when he actually died trying to save people. Dr. Whiteson's pathetic response was to question when they had said that Mars' atmosphere was thin due to an almost non-molten core. He claimed to be totally ignorant of the fact that he had claimed such on the podcast. When I referenced the specific episode, he responded with something totally off-topic -about how they totally didn't discredit Dr. Zweig's work on quarks- and the next day he stated on the podcast that Mars had no magnetosphere and, thus, has minimal atmosphere. Also, Dr. Whiteson frankly denied Dr. George Zweig's discovery of quarks because Dr. Zweig is of Serbian ancestry. Dr. Whiteson only acknowledges Anglo, or Communist, physicists based on his racism and politics. Warning: Don't try to explain that Russians aren't Anglo, he'll completely flip out because he's a moronic, bigot, Russian cut-out. TL;DR: This podcast is entirely informed by what the hosts want to be true on a given day, based on their ignorance and bigotry, and they are both pop-culture-fellating hacks. They're pathetic. They cannot remember what they claimed episode to episode, do not care that they regularly contradict themselves, and should not be believed for anything they say. They are two of the worst examples of pop-science, and will change their "beliefs" based on what some famous person says via Twitter. They're pathetic and not worth your time.

I love this podcast!   (5/5)

I love Daniel and Jorge explain the universe!! I learn a lot from listening to it. Amazing   (5/5)

I jus wish u two never stop this podcast or else I’ll no longer fall asleep😳😂.. Literally gives me chills jus thinking abt falling asleep while listening to ur podcast, Keep it coming👌👌👌👌👌

Terrific Podcast for Space Junkies!   (5/5)

If you are looking for a podcast that simplifies some of the complex concepts of the universe , then look no further! Daniel and Jorge do a great job of really dumbing down some of the PhD level topics so that ordinary listeners like us can understand and appreciate the beauty that is this Universe. My one request would be to include all the different mysteries that still can’t be explained by science in one show and let Daniel speculate as to what they are .

Thank you thank you thank you   (5/5)

You two work together so well. I love the little jokes and I’ve learned so much from your podcast. This is the perfect thing to listen to while working, it makes the time fly! I appreciate all the time that goes into making this 🚀🌎⭐️🪐☄️♥️

Fun and educational   (5/5)

I love the chemistry between Daniel and Jorge. They have an awesome way of breaking down complex topics and making them understandable and entertaining. The best part is that the guys will answer questions. The interaction really adds to the learning experience!

200+ Episodes of Great Physics Information   (5/5)

Sometimes there’s too much wind-up banter, but once they get into each topic this podcast rocks! Thank you Daniel & Jorge for all your efforts. Looking forward to the next 200 episodes!!

Excellent Podcast   (5/5)

Inspired my interest in physics and the universe, topics that I had previously avoided because of mind bending complexities and dryness. Daniel and Jorge are the trifecta—amazing intellectuals, highly talented communicators, with great senses of humor that entertain and relate. I now have an enthusiasm for science that I never had before. Thanks, Daniel and Jorge!

Best podcast in the space   (5/5)

Daniel and Jorge have exceptional chemistry...super funny with good comedic timing! Plus, the topics are always interesting. I have been listening since the beginning and thought they would have run out of ideas, but Daniel has a good sense for tackling standard topics in physics that you would expect and quarky topics that are meant to be off beat. I look forward to every new episode!

Love this dorky podcast!   (5/5)

I love listening to this podcast on walks; the hosts cover a variety of physics topics and put a lot of effort into trying to explain things in a way that the average person can understand. Daniel's love for physics is infectious and Jorge always makes me laugh! If you're looking for a very technical physics podcast then this probably isn't for you--but every time I listen to an episode I gain a new appreciation for the universe and am excited to learn more.

“Mmmmmmmmmm”   (3/5)

Very informative with great explanations from Daniel but must Jorge constantly do that droning “mmmmmmm” several dozen times per episode? He should listen to his podcast. It’s distracting from the material and monotonous. Perhaps an “ok” or “alright” etc Jorge?

DAD JOKES   (5/5)

If you like science and dad jokes, this is the one for you.🤣🤣

Good science in an easy to swallow format   (5/5)

I enjoy all the topics that this podcast deals with. Daniel and Jorge make it fun with their banter.Any sentient life forms from Homo sapiens to Hamsters will find this podcast entertaining and educational.

My biweekly dose of physics   (5/5)

Every Monday and Wednesday I look forward to the following morning for the next episode (admittedly, I don’t always wait that long - the episodes drop at midnight Eastern - but that may not be the best time to properly appreciate this podcast 😃😌😴😯⏪⏪▶️😌... 🔄). I don’t think I had realized how much I was missing learning about physics/astronomy/the universe/etc. (wiki-walks don’t go very far before they start repeating, alas) until I found this podcast. I always learn something new and interesting! Sometimes it’s a topic I’ve never even heard of, other episodes bring me up to date on something I studied a decade+ ago. Anyone who is curious about the nature of the universe and would like to learn about the current frontiers of our understanding/ignorance should check out Daniel & Jorge Explain the Universe.

Great but beware! 🤣   (5/5)

I listened to a few of these episodes on Tuesday and have since been lost in a quantum rabbit hole trying to piece things together in the language of mere mortals, the only language I know 🤣😭 it’s head spinning, brain splitting, almost a little nauseating lol.. but I feel like once I was able to truly comprehend wave/particle duality and the Schrödinger equation, everything else (reluctantly lol) clicked and my mind is scrambling to make connections as to what this suggests is our true and ultimate cosmic destiny. Which I will end here before I begin to pace again lol. Enjoy!

Amazing Find!   (5/5)

Stumbled upon this podcast when Daniel was interviewed by another of my favs and just adored his voice so decided to check it out. It has not disappointed. I love Daniel and Jorge’s playful banter which reminds me of my college days shooting off corny jokes with my fellow math majors. Some of the topics are review for me as physics has always been a deep topic of interest, but even that material is spun in a fun and engaging way. One of these days I might even sign up to answer their random questions!

Good info, but…   (3/5)

There is some good information in this podcast, if you can get past the silly and way too frequent attempts at humor by the moderators. Why do Podcasters always feel it necessary to try to ‘lighten things up’ and amuse us with stupid banter? It is beyond me. We are here for information!

My only science podcast   (5/5)

Which probably says a lot about me. I find Jorge and Daniel so approachable and enjoy listening in on their conversations. Great dynamic. Thanks so much.

Praise and criticism   (3/5)

Thanks guys for the great effort you make to simplify tough scientific topics like these. But I highly recommend that you keep the content interesting and fun by shortening the period of the episodes and get down to the brass tacks and feel free to drop many jokes. I think 25:35 min is the optimum time for an episode.

I learn so much   (5/5)

I learn a lot from this podcast and I love Jorge’s voice.

I can’t believe I get to listen to this...FOR FREE   (5/5)

Wow I just found this show and it’s so good! I’m a molecular biologist, but I’ve always been interested in biophysics and this just really hits the spot.

Great show, too many breaks.   (3/5)

I really enjoy their chemistry and banter accompanying the information but there are way to many breaks for such a short show.

yes   (5/5)

I love it also what number do we call if we have a question? please anyone answer...

AMAZING!!!   (5/5)

This podcast is the best! I hate it when people say they don’t like Jorge because he doesn’t know what Daniel is saying all the time or when they say he’s playing dumb. It’s not like any of the listeners know either, so why blame Jorge. I think the jokes are amazing. All the bad reviews are by people who probably listened to one episode for like 2 minutes and decided it sucked even though they had barely listened to it. It’s not fair and you shouldn’t trust first impressions. Sorry you guys you’re the best and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. I LOVE THIS PODCAST!!!!!!!!!!!!! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🖤💖🧸🌸🌼🌻💐🌷🥀🌺🌾🍄🍁🍂🍃🌿🌱🍀👑👏🤩💀🤗🙃😃😇😎🤯

D & J: Astro GOATs   (5/5)

Accessible, enjoyable and often humorous topics covering physics, astrophysics, particle physics, cosmology and more

Great podcast   (5/5)

For those of you complaining about how it wastes time on jokes and intros and you just want the information, read a god d*mn book

This is my favorite podcast.   (5/5)

Daniel and Jorge Explain the Universe is seriously my favorite podcast. I’ve been listening since the beginning and look forward to each Thursday! Daniel is super smart yet humble. His mild mannered, well spoken explanations are spot on and comprehendible. Jorge is no mental slouch either and I enjoy the light humor he injects. No sidekicks required. The information is good and the chemistry works. Well done gentlemen. Thanks!

Interesting topics, informative   (4/5)

Jokes aren’t great, but these two are nerds, so nerdy jokes are unavoidable. When Daniel goes into a narrative then it’s informative and educational. It would be SO MUCH nicer if they didn’t interrupt with ads, I like to fall asleep listening to this, and hearing the ads is terrible and jarring as you are drifting off.

Not as good as it once was...   (3/5)

This used to be a little chitchat and more interesting information. Now it’s much more throw away humor and a shrinking amount of information. Could be safely cut by 1/3, keeping the informative part and it would be much more interesting.

Please   (3/5)

Please i cant stand the wasted time the jokes take up, i just want the education :-(

Podcast very good   (5/5)

I enjoy your podcast very much One improvement you can make is with your interview skills. Ann Leckie was you first interview, so I don’t want to sound harsh. First, interview too short, intro too long. For example, you did not ask her why she chose to make her civilization so dystopian. Sorry to put thus in a rating, but I could not find another way to contact you. Did you explain how at the end of your podcast?

Great podcast!!   (5/5)

Great podcast! Please continue with the political references!!

Physics Lite   (3/5)

I lived the podcast when it first started. Somewhere along the way, the topics became more childish (can we stop it with the “What’s the biggest...?” series?). With such simple topics, half the episodes are now filler. I think most listeners have a sturdy framework of physics knowledge and would appreciate some deeper dives and tougher topics. Perhaps a series that really explores Relativity? Anyway, I love Daniel and Jorge and still listen religiously. Hoping you guys make a few changes and make this my favorite podcast again.

Intros are way to long.   (3/5)

I like the show when they’re actually talking about the topic. But the intro has gotten longer and longer. The last one was over 5 minutes, a lot of it just talking about the kinds of things they talk about on the show. We don’t need all that, especially not every episode. Also not a big fan of the ask random people bit. Just more wasted time IMO.

Excellent everything   (5/5)

Nice job, folks

Simultaneously relaxing and intellectually stimulating   (5/5)

This warm and informative “fireside” chat about physics by Jorge, a cartoonist with a PhD in robotics, and Daniel, a professor of physics, is a perfect antidote to the daily drumbeat of caustic politics, bitter societal disputes, and the social media’s disinformation machine.

Love this show   (5/5)

Laughing while learning, who’d a thought

Fantastic   (5/5)

A terrific, very interesting podcast. Thanks.

Great podcast   (5/5)

I’m a UCI physics student so I might be biased, but I love this podcast.

listen to it   (5/5)

Your opinion is subjective so you might as well try an episode.

Funny and informative!   (5/5)

This show is great! I’ve really enjoyed learning more about physics from Jorge and Daniel

Too much banter   (2/5)

They talk way too much about what the topic is but they never seem to get to talking about the topic till half way each episode. Meaning 15 or 20 minutes of pointless banter and Dad jokes. Wish it were more educational.

Addicted   (5/5)

Very interesting topics. The chemistry between Daniel and Jorge is great. I think it’s a shame that Jorge (a PhD) is getting criticized for his questions when he is obviously dumbing it down. 😒

Interesting but   (4/5)

To very smart but very unfunny guys talk about space. I listen all the time so all in all it's a very good podcast. I just don't think they are very funny. I do recommend it for the smart side.

1 great host, 1 cringe host   (2/5)

I loved this show when it was just Daniel (Jorge was away or something). Now Jorge's back. He's a smart guy, nothing against him personally, but Jorge makes this podcast unlistenable for me. He is so corny and cringeworthy. He interjects some cringeworthy horrible joke or comment every minute. He is so un-funny and lame it totally ruins this show for me. The point of this show isn't to be funny; funny is just a bonus. So if you are failing at being funny, probably just stick to the main thing, i.e. explaining the universe. I've really loved some of these episodes, the topics are great, and Daniel does a truly great job. I just wish it was only Daniel. Must be a tough situation when you have a co-host and they are so corny and cringe but what can you do, fire them? Too bad. Would have been one of my favorite podcasts. As is though, I don't listen to it ever.

Black Holes are actually Gravity Holes   (5/5)

After listening to your ‘How do you destroy a Black Hole? Episode, it became obvious that a far better name for a Black Hole would be a Gravity Hole. The name Gravity Hole would actually describe what it is but also how it works.

So great   (5/5)

The questions all ever had from the best story telling. Scientists jargon always obscure the answer that I am so looking to know as an average citizen, but Daniel and Jorge have the simplest and colloquial way to explain complex concepts.

Jorge ruins it!!   (2/5)

Great show w/o him

So good   (5/5)

Dad jokes, physics, bananas. It’s all awesome.

Really?   (4/5)

Listening to Jorge and the majority of people questioned makes me sad for the state of intelligence of this day and age. I atleast understand/ (hope) that Jorge is dumbing it down for the ignorant masses but it’s still annoying af. I love the topics discussed but wish there was a podcast that wasn’t meant for the short bus. Sorry about the un politically correct comment but I just really wish Jorge would step his game up or go back on permanent vacation. Preferably he just stops playing ignorant and you both stop playing like we are all dumb.

One of my favorite podcasts.   (5/5)

I’m 66 but when I grow up I want to be a theoretical physicist. I’m told I’m rarely right so that seems like the perfect profession. Vince

Interesting but...   (3/5)

Awesome topics, but dumbed down too much. I’d rather have them both conversing on level with each other rather than one playing dumb and going “aaaaaaah, now I see” all the time. Check out SYSK’s system - Josh and Chuck take turns explaining and then they discuss the topic.

Great podcast   (5/5)

Very informative and calming to listen to.. and I find them funny..

Political Comments   (2/5)

So disappointed to hear Daniel step into the political arena with his recent joke about FOX news. Time for me to find another podcast.

Keep it neutral.   (5/5)

I like Daniel and Jorge podcast a lot. However, I have a request. Please do not make political references even though they are supposedly funny.

Beautifully Simplified   (4/5)

When they stick to science it’s awesome. My only nitpick with the podcast is don’t bring politics into it. Not everyone who listens to this is a liberal.

Procrastinates   (1/5)

Takes a half hour to get started on the topic

Awesome!   (5/5)

Don’t ever stop!

Just another listener   (1/5)

Guys..... please stop trying to be a comedy team! You’re not funny nor should you try. I thought you guys were science guys, not comedians.

You just make me happy.   (5/5)

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and humor. Love you guys. Whether going to sleep or listening in the car, I just can’t imagine the podcast universe without you in it. ♥️Jen

Josh and Chuck Rawk   (5/5)

I am new to Podcasts, but I got to say, that I’m glad that I hooked into you guys. The subjects are informative and I love your sense of humor! Keep up the good work!

It’s Free   (5/5)

Hard to complain about a free podcast. I go to sleep to it. Entertaining and relaxing.

Excellent, fun & informative   (5/5)

I listen to quite a few podcasts and I stumbled upon Daniel & Jorge. This has quickly become my favorite program and I hope they continue for years to come! It has the perfect blend of informative information, intellectual discussion and good humor mixed in. Where else can you hear a comprehensive explanation of our galaxy’s supermassive black hole center and the physics behind it.... while also learning the alternate nomenclature: “Active Crash Disaster Toilet.” Daniel & Jorge - You guys are spewing out excellent content into the cosmos and please keep up the great work!!

Great podcast!   (5/5)

Very fun and informative! One of my favorite podcasts!

Welcome back, Jorge!   (5/5)

Daniel and Jorge, back at it again

Jorge! Jorge! Jorge!   (5/5)

Return! or we all Revolt! Return! or we all Revolt! Choose wisely.

I miss Jorge.   (4/5)

I really miss Jorge. Daniel does a good job, but the duo is best.

No Jorge.. No 5 star   (2/5)

Without Jorge it’s 3 stars🙁 unsubscribed if he doesn’t come back.

Where is Jorge?   (5/5)

I really enjoy the podcast however it is not as good with out Jorge.

I love this podcast   (5/5)

My question is, why do Daniel and Jorge always go back to talking about food?

Love these guys!!!   (5/5)

I’ve been looking for a show like this, then I heard Jorge on another podcast (Mindscape I think) and checked this one out. These guys do SUCH A GREAT JOB of explaining incredibly complex ideas in a way that’s attainable and enjoyable. The episode length is perfect, you can tell they love what they do, and they have a great rapport that makes it just feel like you’re hanging out and talking with your buddies, except they’re way smarter than you and your buddies :-p I think they’re very kid friendly as well for the most part.

Incredible   (5/5)

My favorite podcast.

Wow - SO cool.   (5/5)

You explain everything on such a simple level. I actually feel good after lol.

Mind blown   (5/5)

Have been listening for a few weeks and I have learned so much. You guys make learning fun and relatable. Keep up the good work!

👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍   (5/5)

Mind Blown, Ya’ll!   (5/5)

I like the jokes, and how likable Daniel and Jorge are. Thanks for making this podcast to breakdown some serious science and making it accessible for people. Im constantly being blown away by the subjects, it definitely makes me think deeply and gives me a new appreciation for this crazy universe and how lucky we are to be here.

Great info plus super entertaining.   (5/5)

Hands down my all time favorite podcast. They take complex subjects and make them easy to understand ( except the gravitational waves show. Still don’t understand that)while at the same time being super funny. Keep up the great podcast coming.

Mmcallister   (5/5)

Best podcast! I’ve always loved astrophysics and finally I can understand it!

Perfect   (5/5)

Love the podcast, awesome job! I fall asleep to ya every night.

My favorite podcast   (5/5)

I’m just going to say this, the people giving this podcast less than 4 stars are insane. I drive 20 hours a week for work. I can’t wait for Tuesday and Thursday drives because of this podcast. If you don’t have an interest in learning about the universe and science, then yeah, this isn’t a podcast for you....but if you are fascinated about how the universe, then listen to this podcast. Daniel and Jorge, keep killing it!

Best Podcast   (5/5)

Love this show so much. I listen to every episode many times to let it sink in. The Universe is such a spectacular place. Thank you guys for helping us all understand reality as it is.

Yes, exactly   (3/5)

Good podcast - a bit scripted and sometimes takes too long to get into the subject (8 minutes of 40 before they got into it in the one I just listened to). Biggest problem: Daniel's habit of saying "Yes, exactly" every 20 seconds!!!! Someone train him out of this habit!!!!

Too many commercials   (3/5)

I love this podcast but you guys have too many commercial breaks. Maybe combine them into a longer segment. It’s very annoying

Great   (5/5)

Every episode fascinating Jan 22 2019 was the only episode I found unclear. How would parallel universes be created was never actually explained

Exactly what I want   (5/5)

I can’t speak highly enough about this podcast. It takes complex topics, and they explains it in terms I can understand. This podcast will satisfy anyone’s curiosity about space, physics, and help expand your mind into thinking “outside the box” Highly recommend!!

Thank you!   (5/5)

Awesome stuff.

Amazing   (5/5)

Great podcast

Nice show   (5/5)

Greetings from Venezuela ...

Love it!   (5/5)

Informative, funny and a great listen

Always worth coming back to   (5/5)

The worst thing that I can say about this podcast is that it sometimes sounds scripted (which can be cute and reminds me that they do research) and that the shows are lengthy (which really isn’t all bad). The fact that I keep coming back to this show gives it a 5 star rating. Their backlog is a nice bonus.

Disappointed   (1/5)

I’m disappointed that, as a science podcast, you guys would stoop to trashing Bob Lazar in the same way others have. If you want to refute his claims, do so...

Strange Matter   (5/5)

Hi Daniel and Jorge, I came across an article about “strange mater” and how it can eventually turn everything into strange matter. I would love to hear you guys further explain this. Thanks!

Amazing Informational Podcast   (4/5)

I like the way they concentrate on science. Other podcasts don’t have that specialty. I wish there were more specialist on this podcast. I like the way they ask the average person or student if they have any knowledge on a given question. I would like to see them dissect every answer to see what was incorrect or right. I do feel that the podcasters enjoy their work but I would like more detailed information when necessary. Illustrations, or formulas like other science lectures, radios or podcasts have would help.

Best Science Podcast   (5/5)

I love this show and have enjoyed every single episode. Daniel and Jorge have great chemistry together (sometimes their jokes are a bit overdone but the Science part is phenomenal). Keep the episodes coming!

I get it!.... well, for the most part...   (5/5)

The best podcast for all my space questions and curiosity I have about this amazing and crazy thing we know as space! Makes me love science so much more♥️

More physics please   (4/5)

You guys are great but it often takes over ten minutes before the topic is actually discussed. The forced jokes are killing me

Great show... but   (4/5)

If you could stop with the dumbing down and have a more of an Intellectual conversation that would be great.

Making difficult scientific topics accessible!   (5/5)

So great and easy to listen to, and very funny!

Love   (5/5)

I’m fascinated by all things universe and love that they breakdown concepts I’ve always wondered about. I look forward to new episodes dropping and love that it’s twice a week!!

Always informative and entertaining   (5/5)

I love listening to all of the shows. I keep looking for more new podcasts and am usually sorely disappointed they aren’t Daniel and Jorge and just come back and listen to one of their episodes instead. They do a great job breaking down a topic without watering it down which I appreciate.

Science for everyone   (5/5)

I am a political scientist (I know not real science) with the heart of an astrophysicist. I live near the beach and often look up at the starry night sky and think about the wonders of this strange universe we live in. These guys do an amazing job and keep me hooked through their entire episode. I often find myself asking questions after their episodes and coming up with my own wonky crazy theories about why things are the way that they are. I look at things differently because of these guys and when I tell my wife what I learned on the podcast she always gives me this look like she has no idea what I’m talking about. Which is awesome. I have one question for them, there’s this weird thing on the internet called the “great attractor” which apparently is some unseen thing that is dragging our galaxy toward it (possibly conspiracy). Can you guys shed some scientific magic dust on that?

🎖🎖🎖🎖🎖   (5/5)

These guys make Neil deGrasse Tyson look like a toothless hillbilly (I grew up in the Bible Belt so I know plenty of toothless hillbillies). Keep up the great work fellas!

Fun and educational!   (5/5)

This podcast is quickly becoming one of my favorites. The hosts have great dad joke humor. Keep up the great work!!

Entertaining, Informative Fun Adventures Through the Universe   (5/5)

Great show, I learn so much stuff and have a blast doing so. Daniel and Jorge are hilarious and great educators. Jorge is great at asking the probing question on your mind and Daniel breaks things down with great analogies, alliterations and details. Highly recommend!

Fun and fascinating!   (5/5)

They make stuff interesting that I never thought I wanted to know! And they keep it (mostly) understandable for non-physicists.

Please read   (3/5)

Long time listener, love the subjects, but please the jokes get so old and take up so much time. I like the sense of humor but it's like 3/4 of the episodes are filling time with corny jokes.

Keep it up guys! (Pasadena representing🙌🏽)   (5/5)

I see a lot of complaints about the banter on here. If you don’t like the rapport between two people, purchase a book and read it to yourself. If you hate the cheesy jokes, see above. If you don’t like ads - for free content - also see above. The jokes are cheesy because the podcast isn’t meant to be a lecture. I also belief that’s just their dynamic since they’ve known each other for a while (and worked together). Are people soulless or do they just not have humor? If you think you may be either, please purchase a self-help book and read it to yourself.

Socialists   (1/5)

I grew up during the Cold War when all Socialists should be destroyed. Danny and Jorge belong in Venezuela with their kind. Totally useless waste of humanity.

❤️   (5/5)

Smart and fun!

☑️   (5/5)

Wasting time   (3/5)

I don’t usually listen to podcasts but when I do it’s in the car. I listened to a few and I can tell my annoying points are: the playful banter, commercials and breaks in the middle, and taking too long to get to the podcast subject. I understand if I’m not the target audience as a casual podcaster, but just some feedback.

Daniel and Jorge   (5/5)

I truly enjoy your wholesome and intelligent content. This show is a refreshing break from every day idiocy

Great show for learning and chill   (5/5)

Such a fun show for family learning or just winding down by exploring deep concepts in a lighthearted format...yes other comments are correct, the jokes are cheesy! The art of the show is in how simply they can break down complex topics into casual conversation.

Physics for the rest of us   (5/5)

Great podcast. I love watching documentaries and reading articles about our universe but some concepts still don’t fully sink in. Jorge and Daniel do an excellent job in bringing complex topics to a level that makes it easier to understand. Really fun to listen to and you learn in the process.

It’s great!   (5/5)

This has become one of my favorite shows. Jorge always asks the same question I have at just the right time.

Clear   (5/5)

Concise, interesting and thank you.

MMMMMMmmmmmmmmmm   (5/5)

Interesting but- Roundup?! Really?!   (3/5)

I was enjoying this podcast so much, and then. The Roundup promotion. The stuff we are asked not to use because our storm drain runoff goes straight to Puget Sound. Come on, guys

Simply fantastic!   (5/5)

Really great for listening alone, or with your kids. Will answer a lot of those impossible to answer questions about our universe. Daniel and Jorge are so awesomely fun to listen to.

Question   (5/5)

Currently we use electricity for almost everything. What form of energy do you think we will use next?

Informative and entertaining all at once   (5/5)

Very informative & I have heard all the podcasts they have put out till date. Well researched obviously and fun banter between the two that makes for a good listen.

Annoying effects   (1/5)

The show is OK. My main issue is with the sounds. For a show that’s hosted by supposedly intelligent people, they make the very stupid decision to occasionally begin their show segments with a loud, high-pitched screeching static-like noise. When you listen to podcasts with ear buds in, this is not only annoying, but damaging and painful for your ears. I like the show, but the moronic choices the producers make have pushed me to get my knowledge of the universe elsewhere.

Favorite podcast   (5/5)

I love the idea of mixing science with humor! U guys are awesome!

5 stars   (5/5)

One of my new favorite go to podcasts. Always looking forward to the next episode.

Awesome!   (5/5)

Super fun podcast! Keeps my mind grinding and considering the greater questions. You both have great perspectives! Oh and Daniel... we can all tell who your wife is when you ask her questions... you’re not very sneaky! Thank you guys!

Great podcast guys!   (5/5)

Love it! Look forward to it. Great topics that keep me listening. Would love to hear more about quantum physics As you guys have a way about explaining things in layman terms.

Love it!   (5/5)

Thanks for helping to make physics interesting to regular geeks! Keep up the good work!

My favorite podcast   (5/5)

My favorite podcast.

Love it   (5/5)

I love it. This is a fun, light-hearted and intellectual podcast. I'm always waiting for the next episode! 5 out of 5 and I do recommend!

The perfect duo   (5/5)

You have your smart and charming one and then your goofy and relatable one. I love this podcast and learning so much from you guys!

How Jesse Explained This Podcast   (5/5)

An easy to understand explanation of everything without being talked down to. These guys want to have fun while explaining dark matter, the Big Bang and how everything is made up of puppies. Each episode is better than the last and more professional. I would recommend giving it a try and see if you’re hooked.

Blow your mi d in 45 minutes or less!   (5/5)

Such an amazing educational podcast! Definitely my new favorite from How Stuff Works! They make some of the most complicated things easy to understand! Love it! Listen to it!

Commendable   (5/5)

Explain the Universe is a very informative show. Daniel sees to that. But Jorge is an invaluable co-host because of the artistic perspective he brings to science. They make a great team, and it really shows. What we find most remarkable isn't that they bring science down to an understandable level for the lay-person. It is that they do so while not compromising on the complexity of the discussion of the subjects they tackle. Commendable.

Food for Cosmic Thought   (5/5)

I enjoy reading and writing Sci-Fi as a hobby. The market is filled with suedo-science and some of it is pretty good, but the best is in the form of hard-science fiction. There, you find tangilble ideas and thought provoking theories. It requires that writers understand the topics they are writing about at least on layman's terms. That is sort of where my interest lies. I will never understand the intricate math behind some of these theories, but through amazing podcasts like this, I can grasp the concepts and it sparks my imagination. Some of the episodes confirmed my own ideas as feasable stories, which felt like vindication for my wild ideas. Some episodes blew my mind with ideas I had never considered. This makes for absolutely facsinating listening and imagining!

A podcast of immense beauty   (5/5)

From a scientific and a human perspective, this podcast does not only open a channel for other humans to engage with gorgeous theories and scientific models, but does so with class and elegance. Daniel and Jorge are inspiring human beings, humble, modest, both of great intelligence. Indeed, even if Jorge plays the layman foil, he synthesizes very complex concepts in a gifted way. Daniel sounds like a professor I’d be willing to endente myself to go listen to everyday. As a political science and philosophy student, I love what I study but I wish I had matured a mind that would have appreciated math in high school. It’s an inspiration to dive back into it. Also, I should add, the presentation of the podcast is done with great taste, and the voices, the music, and the positive, relaxed, and inquisitive energy projected makes for a work of art within the science. Listening to this podcast while laying in bed at night under the stars is like a meditations trip in Nepal with Sam Harris. Thank you, guys.

Great for Walks   (5/5)

I listen to podcasts walking to school, from school, between classes, and during lunch. Science and humor are the top two things I love to listen to and you put both into a single podcast.

Political Bias   (1/5)

I downloaded some episodes hoping for a physics podcast. Instead I get commentary on the 2016 election in an episode about randomness. Is it ‘random’ to assume that everyone has same beliefs and political leanings as you? Deleted, unsubscribed, and dis-recommended.

Funny and informative   (5/5)

I like this podcast quite a bit. I studied engineering in school. Even though I took some physics courses, most of this stuff is new to me, and it's nice to hear things explained in an approachable fashion. There are a lot of jokes and puns, which I appreciate, even though they're a little nerdy. I love hearing about the coolness of the universe; what we know and don't yet know! Keep it up. Definitely one of my new favorite podcasts.

Excellent Science!!   (5/5)

Their recent episode on quantum computing was one of the best I've heard on the subject. They give good information without babying their listeners. I look forward to many more to come!

Great content, poor forced humor   (3/5)

The content of this show fits perfectly in the inquisitive, nerd-ish realm. The science is accurate and well explained. My only gripe is Jorge. The way he tries to re-explain things and gets it completely wrong can be very annoying. His examples are usually completely off to the concept and Daniel does well with telling him he’s wrong but it happens so often that it brings me out of the conversation. His tangents are distracting and should really at least read up on the topic of the show before starting it. Not saying you need to know it all, but if your going to be the funny one, you need to be funny and have some kind of conceptual understanding of the topic at hand.

One of the best podcasts   (5/5)

Daniel & Jorge are great to listen to. They break concepts down to understandable levels and have a great banter. I look forward to the notification of a new episode being available.

As a high school physics this is 100% the best science podcast   (5/5)

As a high school physics teacher I struggle to find a single source that can find as many good topics as these guys . Looking at other podcast you find some interesting topics about 20% of the time. But not here, every episode topic is relevant and interesting for not only science people, but the everyday person as well. I’d recommend this podcast to anyone trying to understand more about science as they will keep you up to date with 21st century physics and what’s going on with the universe today

One of my favorites   (5/5)

I’m not a physicist or scientist and I am in love with this podcast. I listen to each episode over and over again. It is very well done and the hosts do an incredible job of explaining very complicated topics.

Top shelf podcast!   (5/5)

This podcast is fresh, easy to digest and down right entertaining. Love it.

Awesome show   (5/5)

Really interesting and informative!

Amazing!   (5/5)

This is my favorite podcast ever! So inspiring and charming! It makes me feel really smart and absolutely, insignificant at the same time! And I love it! I'd give you all the stars in the universe if I could! 🤩 P.S: Free the hamsters! 🤣

Interesting but please stop with jokes   (2/5)

The material is fascinating, which is presented for a layman but their banter is a distraction. The forced jokes are almost annoying enough to completely stop listening this podcast.

Best. Podcast. Ever!!!   (5/5)

Thanks for the amazing podcast! I’m a physics undergrad and have loved every episode I have listened to. Can you do one on quantum entanglement? Or maybe the black hole information paradox? Please continue, you both explain concepts in a such a understandable and entertaining way that doesn’t sacrifice accuracy!

One of the best!   (5/5)

My New Fave   (5/5)

I just can’t believe how many spots this show hits on! Most important, it offers the clearest explanations of the most complex topics of any other podcast I’ve found. It’s so satisfying! I love the structure of it. I almost always laugh out loud at least once. They’re so fun to listen to, the way they riff off each other. Jorge’s intelligence and wit combined with Daniel’s knowledge and experience keep the show’s momentum at an exciting level. Jorge’s analogies really help me understand. I wish I had found it later, so I could binge! But luckily there are a few episodes I still want to give a second listen. AND this is the only podcast I can say that about!

Phenomenal   (5/5)

I bought Daniel and Jorge's book, "We Have No Idea," a while ago and wanted to see if they had written anything else. I was so happy to find this podcast. The presentation is always fun, and they do a great job of making the material understandable without shying away from diving into the deep and fascinating implications of the topics covered. I listen to this podcast whenever I'm sad because it's always inspiring and encouraging to be reminded of what a beautiful and exciting place the universe is.

Excellent podcast!   (5/5)

If you’re interested in physics, this is the best podcast for you.

Universe explained with a side of comedy   (5/5)

Daniel and Jorge have a great way of breaking down complex concepts that really make you think of our world in in new ways. I love nerding out to this!

Amazing podcast but commercials include disturbing news stories   (3/5)

I love this podcast but upset to all of a sudden be Interrupted in my science wondering by a commercial of a disturbing news story involving children.

Awesome podcast   (5/5)

Daniel and Jorge explain tough scientific and mathematical concepts very simply and colloquially. They make it easy for us non-scientifically trained folks to understand. My 5 year old daughter and I listen together. Great show guys - keep up the good work!

Great content   (5/5)

I love listening to these guys! Funny dudes and interesting ideas. Kudos guys!

Thanks guys   (5/5)

My friend became a flat-earther and I was so embarrassed by my lack of argument material that I’ve become a hobby cosmologist ever since, and your podcast was the perfect introduction. I look forward to it more than any other podcast these days

Terrific!   (5/5)

Great, fun and so informative! If you are reading your comments, can you do a podcast on: Gravity - how can there be gravitons if gravity is just a bending of space-time. String Theory Quantum Field Theory The merging of the fundamental forces

As entertaining as it is informative   (5/5)

Daniel’s knowledge and Jorge’s jokes make for a really fun way to learn about some very interesting topics that everyone should know. From how big is the universe to what’s the smallest piece of matter. From before the Big Bang or possibility's for the end of everything, they keep you listening and learning. Want to know how a nuclear bomb works or what’s a neutrino? Are there aliens? Is light a particle or a wave? Find out while being thoroughly entertained!

Lack of critical back and forth   (5/5)

I enjoy the show. But it feel like you agree too much, and theirs too high of a confidence line in the present understanding of the universe. Like I can almost hear you argueing (and agreeing) that a good blood letting is the best way to cure a seasonal malaise becuase thats a fact because everyone agrees today. Through caution to the wind, argue agaisnt your own understanding - say how can I prove that the universe is not evolving to fit our understanding and not the other way around. Thanks either way, your work is appreciated truly!

Super Interesting   (5/5)

This is a great podcast! The explanations go deep enough that they provide the concepts of some very difficult topics. Entertaining and engaging. These guys are humerous and very likable. I look forward to the next episode coming out, and always listen to them first when they are released.

I really WANT to love it   (4/5)

This podcast should be one of my favorites. The hosts are knowledgeable and likable, and the subjects they are covering are fascinating. But dear lord, the cringe-inducing humor... the discussion will just be getting into some good, deep stuff, and then we have to digress for up to a minute into a “humorous tangent”. Which would be okay if it wasn’t CONSTANT. And I guess that would be okay if these guys were funny. But they’re just not. They’re not comedians. They’re likable and charming - but not funny enough to warrant the incessant interruptions. The non-stop breaking of the flow to make long, bad jokes really hurts. But you know what? It’s probably worth fighting through the frustrating attempts at comedy if you’re interested in these topics.

Now this is podcasting!!!   (5/5)

This is exactly the type of content I was looking for 18 months ago when I turned to podcasts to try and find a high end physics podcast told in a casual way that is easy to understand. I never found one that I was happy with so started listening to others, heard a plug for this podcast and was hopeful, I have since listened to every Daniel and Jorge episode and some twice. I have learned so much and can’t wait to find out what the future of this podcast has in store. Keep it going and I’ll keep listening.

Explanations in a way non-physicists can understand   (5/5)

I stumbled upon this podcast recently and it’s become one of my favorites. Daniel explains difficult concepts in a way that a lay person can understand and Jorge, by the fact that he’s not a physicist, further helps emphasize the ideas behind what they’re talking about. In addition to the show’s topics and easy-to-understand explanations, I also find the back and forth of the hosts and the musical accompaniment relaxing. Thanks for making a great show!

Interesting!   (4/5)

Woah! Awesome. This is so interesting.

Amazing   (5/5)

Amazing   (5/5)

This podcast is awesome. Daniel and Jorge frame things in layman terms. Very easy to understand and the dialogue between them is hilarious.

Great show   (5/5)

Great show which discusses the essence of our existence in a kitchen table manner. Five stars

Great Podcast!   (5/5)

If you are a curious person and have a sense of humor you will not be disappointed.

Love this   (5/5)

This podcast is amazing. Everyone should listen. It should be resampled into hip-hip songs. It should be printed out and used as wall paper. It should be atomized and put into the water supply. They should make hold music out of this. It should be beamed into outer space for aliens to listen to.

Amazing   (5/5)

Abostutely amazing. Reminds me of 'stuff you should know' just bit more sciencey. Super interesting!

Awesome   (5/5)

Very digestible episodes about topics i love

MIND. BLOWN.   (5/5)

Enough said.

Don’t Bother.   (1/5)

I love physics and I wanted a bit more information so I subscribed and almost got through the first episode. Don’t bother. This podcast answers the question: What kind of sidekick would a physicist have? A failed engineer. The two prattle on endlessly without adding much information, new or old. It’s like being back in high school where the teacher tells you something then backs up and tries again. And again. I applaud them for trying. Maybe they grow up in another podcast.

Excellent hosts and awesome content   (5/5)

Daniel and Jorge are incredibly interesting hosts to listen to. They talk about complex subject matter with ease and explain it in a way that is easy to understand yet not “dumbed down.” I can’t wait to hear more from these guys!

Love it   (5/5)

Hey guys I really love how you guys explain things. I want to hear more. Keep it up

Wow!   (5/5)

I love this podcast because it is explained in everyday terms that I can understand. I don’t have to be taking science courses to get it. Thank you so much!!!!

Good podcast   (5/5)

Good podcast

The best!   (5/5)

This makes me feel like I’m sitting around a campfire listening to Daniel explain the universe. I’d really love an episode though about the physics of one-use kitchen gadgets!

Such a great podcast!   (5/5)

I’m new to podcast listening & it’s so hard to find podcasters who aren’t obnoxious. Daniel & Jorge are great & the topics they discuss are so complex but they break it down so well. Daniel’s knowledge of the universe is incredible & Jorge often asks him questions that I have. Amazing that someone who is so knowledgeable about this isn’t boring & is often very funny.

Great   (5/5)

Good crash course on physics. Hope they cover other topics eventually.

Astronomy Nerd   (5/5)

I’ve loved reading about space and physics since I was a little kid. These guys do a great job of simplifying various topics so that they are understandable and entertaining. This is my new favorite podcast!

Love the pod cast!   (5/5)

I love this podcast. I’m a bit of a science nerd and I still seem to learn new things from these shows. It took me a few episodes to get used to the sorta low energy tone (more like class or a quiet discussion, not bad just different from a lot of other mainstream podcasts) but I’m excited when new to see a new show has queued up.

Great explanations of interesting topics in physics   (5/5)

Daniel and Jorge give good, clear explanations of complicated topics

Awesome   (5/5)

More people should know more about this. Good job guys

Funny and educational   (5/5)

A wonderful podcast.

Daniel Whiteson + Jorge Cham = Must Hear Physics Podcast   (5/5)

As an off-campus grad student, I’m always looking for new podcasts to fill my treks to class. I’ve loved other HowStuffWorks podcasts like ‘Stuff You Should Know,’ ‘Stuff They Don’t Want You to Know,’ ‘Tech Stuff,’ and now- ‘Daniel and Jorge Explain the Universe.’ Daniel has a rare combination of expertise and the ability to simply, yet thoroughly, explain fundamental and often complex foundations of physics. Jorge has an endearing charm, and he serves as a nice foil and everyman for Daniel’s physics know-how. A must listen podcast for all inhabitants of our universe.

Finally   (5/5)

This show is everything I’ve been waiting for from a podcast. The only thing I can say bad about it is I wish they were longer. I hope they keep this going for years to come. Phenomenal job!

Love it   (5/5)

When I first saw the title, i thought it would be to complicating and that I wouldn’t be able to follow along. After listening to the first episode I realized how wrong I was. The hosts do a great job at not only explaining the universe, but also keeping it interesting. This podcast is amazing!!!

Love it   (5/5)

Already one of my favorites, came to leave a review because I need this podcast to be successful so new episodes keep coming out

Great new podcast   (5/5)

So good. Glad to have a new favorite podcast.

Minor issue   (3/5)

Mr. host, please let the physicist talk and interrupt less, thank you!

Potential.   (4/5)

Great topics and I enjoy the hosts but I also feel like they're still straightening their podcast bearings. They may have to loosen up just a bit and get comfortable if they wanna fit in around here at the HSW network. Will keep tuning in.

Accessible and interesting!   (5/5)

Daniel has a great gift for making physics principles make sense!

Great start!   (5/5)

A cerebral podcast, such fun. Keep up the good work!

Love!   (5/5)

Great focused conversations tackling some big questions about life, the universe, and what it all means.

So fun!   (5/5)

This show is so much fun to listen to! And you get to hear about some really interesting topics
