I absolutely love the podcastssome really great research and story telling. I am not caught up yet, just finished Hercules with the Squonk as the mythical creature. Genesis has an old song called Squonk and always thought it was an English creature, did not know it was from America. One thing I would like to see gone is the retro Mario Brothers music, it's a little distracting.
I have been listening while at work. I do rock testing, so it’s pretty routine. I started listening to Myths & Legends a month ago nearly to the day and I’m totally addicted!!! My husband and I are part of a medieval recreation group called the Society of Creative Anacronism (SCA) and bardic and story telling are a big part of the activities. I’ve been dying to find a place to get more information on stories and songs from that time period and you totally fit the bill, plus the stories are sooooooo much fun and well told!!!! Thank you so much! By the way, I asked for Bombas socks for Christmas. 😄
This show is perfect for long drives, sitting in your office or playing while in bed or putsing around the house. Tells the stories with some humor but doesn’t let it change the story. He doesn’t yell in your ears like other podcast hosts. It worth going back listening from the beginning!
Myths and Legends has quickly become a part of my classes, lessons, and lectures. When teaching “Tolkien and Mythmaking,” the retelling of “Sigurd and Fafnir,” “Gawain and the Green Knight,” and the Finnish “Kalevale” gave me and my students access to the stories that Tolkien himself translated and used for his Middle-earth Mythos. These stories opened the imaginations of my students, allowing them to be heard as they were intended - spoken and performed, Further, Weiser’s retellings have been useful in bringing cultural folk tales to life in my “The Land Speaks: Geography and culture” class. For middle school students, storytelling like this helps the words come alive in their imaginations. Jason Weiser revives within me the playful desire to listen and recraft stories to help encapsulate the wisdom of our past, reframe it for our present, and allow it to help form our views of what is possible...even daring to go into the dark forest.
After discovering Myths and Legends, I have not gone through a podcast faster than this one. From the fresh tack on the telling of these classic stories, legends, and fairytales, this show keeps me wanting more. With a modern structure and fantastic delivery, these stories allow you to understand and learn about numerous cultures, heritage, and history from around the globe in an ever-entertaining manner. It combines just the right amount of humor, seriousness, and thrill to make every story come alive and truly worth a listen.
5000 out of 10 the jokes are the best part so dask4 you can just shut up dude don’t stop 🛑 telling jokes there the best ok 👌🏻 got you 👌🏻got you again 👌🏻three strikes in a row heck yeah your jokes are the best don’t stop telling them or I will give you ⭐️💥💥💥💥 1/5 stars ⭐️ you should make all the stories about Hansel and grettle in ☝️or✌️ episodes 🙏🙏🙏🙏please🥺🥺🥺🥺. 🙏🙏🙏🙏
I like how all the voice changes, humor, sarcasm, and honestly just the way you tell the stories (most of them I’ve never even heard before) leave the listener intrigued and always wanting more.
Love this show, but what’s up with the sped up talking in the latest episode? Bad editing?
My favorite podcast! Lots of stories I’d never heard and well told. Lots of humor, visual descriptions and good vocal variety to keep your ears and mind engaged. Jason has a perfect radio voice and good production. 5 stars all around!
I recently discovered this podcast and can I just say, I am hooked! I listen to it all the time.
I just recently found your podcast and I haven’t stopped listening to it. While I’m at work I have your podcast on and it’s really informative on the myths I knew and the ones I only heard about. I started only 2 weeks ago listening from the very beginning and now I’m at episode 18. Please keep up the great work. I look forward to hearing more of your insight
This podcast is so amazing, I listen to it every day. I like the stories and the narration so much. Thank you!
This is the greatest podcast ever. Thanks for getting me through work
I seriously love this podcast! His re-tellings of each story and creature are done in such a way that you can understand and appreciate them better. He breaks it down in such a way anyone can understand and enjoy. I love mythology and was elated to find a podcast dedicated to such a topic!
I have been listening to several podcasts on the subject of myths, legends and folklore, and this has been the best, by far! I am an artist who draws much of my inspiration from the subject, and I am endlessly inspired while listening to these tales. Jason is the perfect host, an enthralling "campfire" storyteller with a knack for pushing and pulling on the emotions of the audience. I find myself going from near tears to laughing out loud, and everything in between in the span of a single episode. Well done!
I finally caught up on every episode of Myths and Legends, and want to say thank you! Jason, your work is intelligent, witty, clever, and so engaging. You bring these stories to life in ways that make me laugh out loud along with provoking thought and teaching me so much. This is far and away my favorite podcast! Thank you once again.
Really good audio quality and narration and story’s are very bueno mythology is on point.
Really good audio quality and narration and story’s are very bueno mythology is on point.
Quite possibly my favorite podcast! It's taken a while, but I'm caught up on all the episodes and can honestly say I've enjoyed every one! So fun to hear stories from so many different places, retold in such a great way! Highly recommend! Keep up the great work! Creature of the week has been awesome too!!!
I love how the stories are written and narrated. I also love hearing the myths from non-European/Greek areas of the world since I wouldn’t hear them normally. Although i still love the European/Greek myths they do as well.
This is definitely the best podcast I’ve ever listened to! I’m even listening to the Tom Thumb episode again while I write this👍🏻 this podcast is so amazing because every Tuesday or Wednesday I get to listen to either a funny or scary or just plain history it is so much fun😃
It’s amazing I listen to it ALL THE TIME! Jason is witty and funny. Bringing in humor in these classic myths is GENIUS. I hope this podcast continues for years!
The best I’ve listened to, very informative and just great to listen to when relaxing. As a social studies teacher some of these can be Ice Breakers I plan to use for class, like the Mythical Creatures segment at the end. Great stuff and very entertaining
This is hands down the best podcast ever if you like listening to these super interesting story’s I highly recommend this podcast!
This is the best podcast I’ve found! Jason is witty and snarky, and makes the old stories easy to listen to on endless repeat. I walk home from school, and it’s always great to listen to the latest episode. I can’t wait to see what you do next!
THOU PODCAST IS BEST PODCAST THAT MAN SHALL EVER HEARETH.
Awesome show I’ve been binging it for over a month now and it doesn’t ever get boring perfect for getting through the work day
I love it!!!!!!!!!!!! Just I think there’s a little bit to much DEATH. My dad died when I was little so I don’t really like that. But I love everything else. The story telling is amazing! I also love the facts about THE magical animals !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish you could do a episode on DRAGONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love DRAGONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But I also wish you Would do a episode on a big monster.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🐲🐉🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆😥🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🐲🐉🐲🐉🐲🐉❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❕❕❕❕‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️💠❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️By the way my name is Lauren. I never thought this podcast could get any better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But it did!!!!!!!!!!
In each episode, Jason beautifully weaves classic tales with his own personal thoughts and theories, all while consummately injecting modern humor. A true artist—my favorite podcast for a car ride home from work. Thank you!
Just recently found this podcast, and am loving it. While I have always been interested and lore I never knew how vastly different they were from text to text and all the alternative versions. The comedic and personal lense you choose to view the stories dramatically enhance the many facets of each charachter allowing for a more enjoyable and relatable experience. Follow up, thanks for making work go by faster and more smoothly. Thanks for that. Sam
I am really enjoying the stories. I like the way the stories are told. I would like to suggest you tell more of the Native American myths. Can I suggest the Navajo Monster Slayer or Hero Twins?
I only recently learned about podcasts. I tried listening to a few and I just couldn’t stay interested in anything. Then I found myths and legends. It wasn’t long before I realized I needed to start at episode one. I started from the beginning and I enjoy 2 hours of your podcast(s) during my commute for weeks now!! You have a gift for story telling and love the little tidbits and fun you add to your narrative in both this podcast and fictional which I also enjoy. I love hearing everything you find and creature of the week is amazing!!! I’d love to hear more about viking folklore as my fiancé is very Norwegian and that particular group of folklore is hard to read and find good stories on that I can stay focused on. But when you tell them, they are much easier to follow and imagine! I’d love to hear more of them! Thank you and your family for your awesome podcast!!!
Is there going to be a season 4 of fictional?
I just started listening to your podcast and I can’t tell you how much I love soaking up ancient history and myths. It feels like this show was made for me and I have great respect for the type of work you have to do to put this all together. Research is hard and understanding and discerning old written and oral legends is very difficult. I like the way the narrator includes disputed and different understandings of the legends.
I love this podcast all the episodes! The narrator is amazing and hilarious! I listen to this show everyday. My favorite is Taterhood though!
I am currently unemployed and going to sleep at night is very difficult. I use this podcast to help with falling asleep and sometimes laugh when one of Jason's snarky quips startles me awake and makes me giggle. Thank you for all your hard work and thanks to this podcast I now make myself laugh by saying "Of course it's Odin" when I'm stressed or upset. Keep up the good work!
I just discovered this podcast, and have been binging since! Really good show, with interesting stories being told in an entertaining way. If you are at all interested in myths, legends or fairytales I highly recommend.
Great podcast, fun stories told by an easy to listen to narrator. 10/10
I’ve been hooked for the last 3 weeks. I love this podcast and don’t feel it necessary to hear all the episodes before giving it 5 stars. Jason Weiser an excellent story teller and adds just enough humor. Jason is also humble and self-aware to admit that he may ignorant on some subjects/cultures but he does his best to tell a story in respect to its cultural roots and is open to correction. I’ll be a lifelong listener.
I originally found it on Spotify because I knew someone who was into Norse mythology and I wanted it lead a little bit more about the stories. Since then I’ve been listening to it a ton, and now it’s not just for the Norse mythology. I love Jason’s storytelling style and it’s a great way to pass time while doing chores, or driving.
I’ve listened to every one! Must listen
This podcast is definitely worth a listen!!! Fascinating stories combined with very engaging delivery.
I am so glad that this podcast exists because if it wasn’t then I wouldn’t be listening to podcasts, I would be listening to music. It is just SOOOOO AMAZING and fun to listen to. I am trying to go through and listen to all of them, and all of them are SOOOO good. I will be sad when I get caught up.
I LOVE this podcast! I just recently started listening to it about a month ago. I had stopped listening to it in early 2017 because I didn’t really have time or a job where I could listen to podcasts, so I recently got a new job in August and figured I could start listening to them again and remembered how much I enjoyed this one! I’ve went through almost 2 years of episodes within the past month/month and a half just from listening to the episodes at work! Once again... I LOVE THIS PODCAST!!!
“Myths and Legends” is my absolute favorite podcast, followed closely by “Fictional”, another podcast by Jason and Carissa Weiser. I really appreciate that there is always a lighthearted and witty take on some of the heavier- themed episodes... it helps listeners to relate with the stories and makes them more interesting in all the best ways. I recommend this fun podcast to all my friends!
Really good podcast. The myths and legends are fun to listen to and very well researched As people mentioned before i cannot wait to jump in the car and drive and listen to one more myth or legend. Love the witty commentary and remarks that pop here and there I started listening to stories for kids podcasts with my 7 year old daughter who’s addicted to listening stories now I grew up reading tons of stories ,myths ,legends books and i wanted to instill that in my kids as well As we run out of stories on our favorite kids stories podcast i decided to try this one for myself and i don’t regret one second. I’m hooked Thank you and keep up the good work
This is so much. The story telling is amazing. I always get captivated and get lost for hours in these stories. Thank you!
I love this show, but not naming Sigyn (who is considered by historians to perhaps be the oldest of the Norse Deities with a cult similar to the stone-age Venus) that really made me uncomfortable, especially because her name means “victorious girlfriend” not just “Loki’s wife” as you put it in your episode. Female deities and heroes have often been erased already with the rise of Judeo-Christian beliefs. But names give characters personhood and by referring to Sigyn as “Loki’s wife” we take that personhood away from one of the few female deities who stand up to Odin in Norse mythology.
I frequently travel from school to home on weekends, a trip that consists of two 4 hour drives there and back. Listening to this podcast makes these trips fly right by! I arrive at my boyfriend’s house excited to tell him the stories I heard. The storytelling is amazing and I have yet to find an episode that hasn’t fully captivated me. Would definitely recommend, it is one of my all-time favorites!
First podcast I’ve ever listened too and I gotta say I’m glued to these stories I enjoy them very much good job man!!
I have just recently startled listening to this podcast. The story telling is awesome and wholesome. The author is aware of his audience and warns them ahead of time if something gory is about to happen and doesn’t cuss. If he does I don’t notice it. I am learning a lot about creatures I did not know even where a thing.
Funny, smart and great stories! Love this podcast can’t wait to binge my way through it!
Not saying I used this podcast to help me pass my Arthurian Lit class...but I deffo did. A great podcast and great story telling even if you’re not trying to pass a medieval lit class. Also very easy to fall asleep to.
An absolute master at story telling. There is no better way to learn and explore the world of folk tales, legends, and myths. Myths and Legends takes you on a journey every episode. (Not to mention the pretty funny jokes throughout the stories)
So much fun, a thorough, funny, and well narrated telling of known and not so well known tales. All the right jokes and tunes at just the right time. Storytelling at its finest.
I started listening on Spotify on August 18 of this year. Today, October 11, I’m all caught up. For the first time I will have to wait a week to hear the next podcast, instead of just 3 seconds. 😭😢😭 It’s been a lot of fun. Thanks to you and Carissa for all the research and work you put into bringing us such enjoyable versions of these stories!! You have definitely improved as a storyteller though you were never a bad one. 😊 (even with your concerns over pronunciation 😉) Looking forward to next week, and the next week and the next one too...
Brilliantly told stories with great morals and and humor
we spend a lot of time in the car traveling and listen to all kinds of podcasts. i wanted so much to enjoy this but couldnt get through five minutes of one episode. the subject matter and descriptions seemed compelling enough, but the writing is, as someone else mentioned, on a high school level with small words and slangy sentences. it’s as if your friend was telling you the story. the narrators vocal inflections and seemingly rhetorical style was just not on par with serious podcast editing and narration. try “tales” from parcast instead.
Wonderful story telling and great stories you’ve never heard or versions of popular folklore that otherwise had been lost to time
It’s the best to traverse through a mythical world while your just living life whenever I can I just turn on myths and legends and it’s amazing.
I only started listening to these today and I haven’t been able to stop! I spend the day working in a factory often bored out of my mind and not feeling up to the same radio station and the same 20 songs on repeat. I found this podcast and I have been laughing in and off and having a great time with just listening. Thank you to all who work towards making these amazing recordings! 10/10!!
Love these stories and how different they are from the similar tales we have come to know today.
Thank you for creating such a wonderful program! I’ve been a long time lover of these types of tales and have been opened to so many more stories from regions I hadn’t explored before. I especially like that the stories are presented in their original form with a bit a narration from Jason’s opinion to help us 21st century listeners relate a bit more. It’s works so well together. Also thank you for helping create a safety list involving strange noises and houses to avoid in the forest. If I hadn’t been told to not walk into strangers homes in the dark creepy woods like I own it I’m sure I’d been in deep trouble by now. I’m looking forward to the many more tales to come!
This is a really great podcast. The host is an incredible storyteller! Just the right amount of humor. Listening to this show really helps me relax. Thank you for making it!
Definitely the most interesting podcast available! I personally have listened to every episode at least 10 times and they still keep me entertained. I love hearing the origins of stories that I thought Disney created but the best ones are the ancient stories that seem to have been lost to time. Each one is rewritten by the host in his own compelling way and has a great modern spin on it. Keep it up Jason!
I love this podcast! I’m sad as I’m nearly caught up!! I wish my parents could have been this cool with my bedtime stories when I was a kid!
This podcast has opened my eyes to many great Myths and Legends. I tried to find sources that proved him wrong (only because I love this podcast so much. But I could find very few, and those seemed to be to far fetched. Even from a time when some people believed that each day the sun would never come back up again. And there would too many missing gaps, and it took forever to put together a story that made no sense and was boring to read, five weeks had passed. So if you want to read a great, real, and interesting podcast, this is the best place. I could not recommend it more! :) :)
Thanks for distilling so much mythology into an easy to listen to, fun pod!
Love the podcast keep up the good work!
Love these stories with a modern take and they are quite hilarious at times
Love the podcast and all it’s side notes I wish they would do more of the real stories of Disney stories like the alladin episodes and also more Native American folklore they seem to be unpopular but the most interesting on this podcast but besides that...amazing podcast
I really love your sarcasm. Although I do wish you could not do as many long series of episodes as I can’t even listen to your earlier episodes because the recording is so-so.
I’m American and currently living in Russia. I love listening to all the Slavic myths because I never learned those growing up. I also really enjoyed the Filipino story of the turtle and the monkeys and the story about Charlemagne. Спасибо!
I just love this podcast. I discovered it late but am working my way through some of the back episodes. The style of storytelling mixed with a 21st Century bent is really absorbing with a modest sense of humor. Thank you for doing such thorough research, and for having such a diverse range of stories.
Wowwww I love this podcast! It’s completely up my alley, but who doesn’t love a good myth and legend?? These stories are told with such wit and cleverness that it just keeps me hooked for hours. Please keep up the good work, and keep these great myths coming.
This is the podcast that started my love of podcasts. And it’s still my absolute favorite! I’ve always had an interest in history, mythology, legends, story telling, all that good stuff and here it is all in one, but even better because Jason makes adds his personality and makes the stories funny too and I love that there’s such a huge variety. I just love it. Please don’t ever stop. Thanks guys!!
Still the number one podcast that I recommend when someone asks. Thank you for the knowledge and entertainment!
i love this show!! i am just starting it and look forward to hearing all of these well told stories!
I absolutely love this podcast! The research is great and the different myths and legends are so fascinating. I’m hooked.
This is seriously my favourite podcast EVER. I even go back constantly and relisten to the episodes I’ve already heard—I never get tired of it! Great stories, told with wit and insight. Just a consistently fantastic show!
Thank you for all of the stories- they have helped me stay focused while painting! I’ve even turned friends and family on to this podcast and have thus created multiple myths and legends obsessions.
As someone who’s always been into myths/legends I love seeing all of the old and new stories.
I found this podcast while researching St Nicholas, and found both an educational and entertaining story. I immediately subscribed once I saw the episode playlist. I wanted more!! I jumped around from story to story for a while and recently went all the way to the beginning and am listening to it in order. I love how so many of the stories link together. I also love listening to his storytelling evolve, and seeing his fan base grow. I just found his other podcast Fictional, and I’m excited to give that a try!
The best!!!!! 🥇♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
You should do the story of Dr. Jackal and Mr. Hyde on Halloween!
Love the pithy delivery as well as the diversity of the catalog. Can’t wait till we start the Trojan War!!
I love this podcast! To see the progression from side-gig/hobby to full time job has been wonderful! The quality of the music/sfx and general audio has continued to improve into the realm of excellence. The story telling has from the beginning of the show been humorous and enjoyable. I respect Jason and Carissa for all the work and research they pour into the show! The advertisements are generally actually worth checking out and are tastefully handled. Thanks so much for continuing this podcast! May Myths and Legends continue for as long as it's as enjoyable for you to make as it is to listen to! P.S. I love hearing the tidbits about the "little guy" :) growing up I'm sure he is very proud to have you as parents!
One of the best podcasts ever! It is informative and really cool, I also wish you would bring back Fictional!
I started listening to this podcast a couple years while starting my drive home with from the Oregon coast and listened the entire drive until we pulled into my garage in Kentucky! I’ve been hooked ever since!
This podcast is my favourite podcast about mythology, and is in fact my only mythology podcast. I love how he presents the facts. #Thebuttercat
This podcast is one of the best podcasts I ever listened to. I discovered it when there was around 80 episodes and I finished them all in 3 days.Great podcast and I definitely recommend it.when is the next season of fictional though?
This show is consistently entertaining and true to the legends. Perfect for any mythology fan. I often listen with my nine year old daughter and she loves it.
This podcast is amazing! His voice is the best to listen to all day and the stories are amazing... so why are you not listening??
I absolutely love this podcast. The stories are so fascinating and easy to get hooked on. I’m so glad I found this. If you’re thinking about starting a new podcast I couldn’t recommend this one highly enough
Never really thought I’d get into podcasts but I’m happy I stumbled across this one ! Absolutely love myths and legends !!
I’m so glad I found this podcast. The story telling is lively and entertaining. I love how he gathers stories from all over the world and the creatures of the week are scary, varied and educational. I have been listening to old episodes and have noticed an improvement in his delivery. Keep it up!
Such great storytelling. The stories themselves are interesting and the telling is both captivating and appropriately funny at just the right moments. As someone who has always loved mythology of all types and has read or heard a lot of these stories myself, this podcast really lets me nerd out and dive deeper into these awesome tales.
So sad but still pleased that I finally caught up to the present with this podcast. I’ve enjoyed every episode. Long may it continue!
I discovered this podcast just before I left for a trip to Greece, and downloaded all of the episodes about Greek mythology and listened to those episodes leading up to my trips & evenings in the hotel while I was there. It was so fun that in addition to listening as they are released, now I stop here as part of my trip planning so I can binge re-listen to the myths and legends of the place I’m planning to visit!
I love the stories and how you add your intake with jokes keep up the good work I listen to these everyday and you never disappoint with amazing story line and historical facts I didn’t know about it amazing
I love listening to this Podcast on my commute too and from work. Jason is an awesome story teller. Myths And Legends has quickly become my favorite podcast.
Hey Jason! This is probably my favorite podcast ever. I listen to some episodes to go to sleep! I think it would be great if you added more Slavic folklore. If you could not ad not so much sexual themes in some of them that would be great cause I’d like to listen to some with my family. Thanks again! PS. Please say my nickname in the end of one of your podcasts
Love the stories, narrator, and the end with mythical creatures is always great to listen to. I personally enjoy Greek mythology and would love to say thank you. I myself am in middle school and I still love it no matter how dark it usually gets. These are some great stories that someone like me can listen to. Note: I enjoy rewriting this because it’s enjoyable and my thoughts change ❤️thank you for all the great videos (or what ever you want to call them) I also agree with vinnie gamer but be cautious because these are their opinions 🙁 this is coming from a 11 year old so be careful With what you say 😅😅😅
This podcast is rather remarkable, it has such a wide rang of folklore that I find myself excited for the next one. I must admit that I just found this podcast about two weeks ago and stared with the very first one and have been working my way to current. I must thank you for creating something that is both entertaining and educational. Keep up the amazing work and I can’t wait to see and hear what comes next.
I am obsessed with this show, just started season one. No other podcast on this topic captivates me so much, its hilarious, entertaining and informative!! Thanks for the amaZing show!
Commute made interesting. Also now skipping TV to listen. Also thanks for including Native American, Mexican and Maori folklore.
I tried out so many podcasts and could never finish one until a couple years ago when I found this one. I seriously could (and have) listen to this guy talk all day. He tells stories like he was there and has such an amazing sense of humor and the stories are like woahhhh I never knew the real story was like that or woahhhh how did people even come up with that one but it’s ALWAYS entertaining. This podcast is for everyone, I’ve played it for my mom, my teenage sister, my friends who are not typically fans of myths and legends lol and I download my favorite episodes for flights and when I drive or have downtime I always play this and it makes me so happy. Thanks for making something I enjoy so much:)
This is by far my favorite podcast. If you like myths, legends, folklore, and fairytales and want to know about their origins, this is a great show that summarizes these stories in fun and interesting wats. It pokes fun at the sillier parts of the stories while still staying true to them.
I’m obsessed with myths and legends in general and this podcast delivers a great weekly fix - I’ve listened to every episode at least once. Big fan.
The tone really shifted a while back. Idk if he’s trying to be more family friendly but it’s too goofy all the time now. Used to binge soo much
I listen to this podcast every day on my way to school. It’s so fun to listen and so enjoyable. I am literally in love with this podcast
Love the way Jason tells the stories. Easy to listen to and understand. Thanks for all the work you and your wife put into the poscast.
I’ve only just started and can’t get enough. These stories bring so much light onto subjects I had little or no knowledge but I am very interested in learning. The deathless magician is my favorite new story!
You make the story’s funnier and you can make the sponsors relevant to your life and family.
Not every story is funny plus I really think you consider your jokes funny but mostly they are not . So cut the jokes and ho with the stories or at least reduce the frequency of them . You are no Sienfeld .
I love the podcast and the stories but even more so your humor when telling them. Sometimes I find myself actually laughing out loud at your use of humor in your story telling. Keep it going!
Perfect balance of information and humor.
Love this podcast so much!! Also did he ever do that segment on jinns he thought about doing after Aladdin?
I love the stories you talk about. I love the little humor you add to every story. I have been looking for a good legends podcast and now I’ve been binge listening to yours. I hope you cover more creation myths and fairytales. Can’t wait to hear more of everything else. Helps my workday go by so much faster
I love your take on stories and your use of sarcasm. Thanks for making my long drives seem a little shorter. :)
I love it’s, it’s a good mix of folklore and myths, I lobe how he adds his own style to the story and makes it more modern it’s good, the added humor is refreshing. :)
I been a long time listener of your podcast , and I believe you are an amazing story teller. I have referred your podcast to other people and they also love it. One thing today I was listen to “la llorona” episode at work and it reminded me of a Venezuelan folklore , so I though Jason should try for the creature of the week “el silbon” the whistler I now you’ll dig it. Keep up the good work !
I’ve always been interested in mythology and folklore but with the (completely justifiable) casual sarcasm this is becoming a ritualistic part of my week. Thank you for all your research and hard work. I hope to listen for a long time to come.
This podcast is great because I can listen to it for basically every thing like dishes, hanging out with friends, etc, and then afterwards I talk to people about the latest episode like a book club so in conclusion this podcast is one of the best ones I listen to and great for most people. (in my opinion anyway)
On this date,I've listened to 156 days 13 hours of podcasts, and this was the first one I subscribed to. Well done, clever, and funny. Truly one of the best podcasts ever created. Well done, Mat Somers Florida, US
I absolutely love listening to the myths and legends. I usually am not a podcast or even audio book fan but he has a way of making the stories entertaining.
My son and I listen together as a way to enjoy an evening with no screen time. I like hearing about myths that are familiar and some that are new to me. The presentation is great, including the occasional dry sarcasm that is woven in.
I been listening for a few years now since the first 5 episodes and realized I never left a review. This podcast is amazing and the only one I can say I have listened to every single new release. You do amazing work. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this podcast
By far my favorite podcast of all time!
Great storytelling of great stories.
I really learned a lot of myths I did not know existed. I have enjoyed every episode.
Absolutely love this. If you’re not listening to this podcast then you’re not living a full life #hottake Content is fascinating, and the presentation only serves to make it more so. Witty, sarcastic, clever retellings of some of the greatest stories ever.
I have been so thrilled with the variety of stories and the consistent excellence of his retellings. He really does take rarely-explored angles on some old stories and brings many new things to light.
Full of bloody guts and death I would give zero stars if I could
Finally, someone else understands how much of a d*** Turtles are!
I am trying to be a writer and being able to hear myths legends and fairy tales from around the world is wonderful for inspiration. Thank you so much for telling these stories in a way I can understand and enjoy.
I was looking for a podcast that would keep me interested (ADD HERE) and this hit the spot. I love how you tell the stories and make it fun. I have been telling everyone about it and getting more people to listen. Keep up the great work!!
This has been a lifesaver when I’ve been stuck in traffic.
I’ve been listening to the podcast for quite awhile & someone who appreciates fairytales, myths, & some urban legends this podcast has been such a joy. Thank you for the research, enthusiasm, & the tidbits you include while relaying these stories you make an 8 hour second shift job that much bearable. Thank you.
This podcast is my favorite thing to wind down to after work. I just wish there were more Greek Myths!!!!!!!
Very entertaining and educational for me I love how you tell the stories and make them kinda modern like mentioning iPhones and hamburgers I also love how you pick a mythical animal every week The story’s you tell are the same ones I am looking for on certain days. And this podcast actually helped me ace a test in S.S. Keep up the good work!
I thought I knew a lot about stories and mythical creatures, but I was wrong. I thank you greatly for this elucidation.
The stories are told with accuracy. The humor of the teller makes it an easy listen. When I caught up/finished Lore, I didn’t think I would find a single rival to Aaron Manke, but lo and behold! I’m really enjoying this podcast series!!!
In the episode with monkey and turtle, A.K.A episode 133, the turtle acts like both a turtle and a lobster, but it’s still a great episode.
Really great podcast. Enjoy the modern updates to language and the satire thrown into the mix. Also glad that you cover more than just Greek and Roman myths.
This podcast is the best thank you for making it I listen to it on my way home it makes a good story to listen to on the bus too your narration is great for your story’s
I love this podcast. It is so funny
I absolutely love myths and legends, I listen to this podcast more than music, I suggest this podcast to everyone I know and got my family hooked during a road trip, thank you so much for being just as snarky as me and rewriting these stories!❤️
I love this podcast! Jason and Carissa do a great job of giving attention to the myths and legends of a wide range of cultures. (Please do an Aeneid series !)
Perfect for my 25-35 minute commute. I love how he takes these classic and sometime ancient stories and adds his own modern twist and insight. Suggestion: if you haven’t already, can you talk about the Swedish Tomte. Also Sankta Lucia. Perfect with Christmas coming up. Keep up the good work of my history and legends come to life.
If I had this guy telling me stories when I was a kid going to bed, I’d never sleep! His story telling is awesome, and quite funny. Just started listening and I’m happy that I found it!
He makes the stories interesting and funny when throwing in his 2 cents. He also tells the behind the scenes version of the stories as well.
I love the way that this podcast finds a way to weave together the various versions of these myths and legends. He also adapts the language into more conversational dialog BUT he will tell you the original snipits of dialog when they are important to the story. I listen to this podcast every time I travel for work! I especially am fond of the creature or the week.
I listened to this podcast on my commute to work and it has made me appreciate traffic jams.
Love the way you tell this tale “oh look at this amazing cow I found” priceless 😀😃, keep up the good work
I began listening to the podcast this week and am enjoying it sooooo very much! Great storytelling and additional researched contextual information/jokes on the side. The "creature of the week" is just plain ol' fun...I feel prepared for any number of encounters in the woods. Keep the content coming!!!!
I found this podcast a few years ago and it never gets old. Jason has a pleasant voice, and the tone of the show is basically, ‘your best friend telling you about a myth or legend that they are very in to.” It is well-researched, and he always tells a consistent story based on the source material while noting, at the end, the common variations on the tale. Great fun on road trips.
I just started listening to this podcast, and I can’t stop! I love to learn about myths. We never covered them in school, so this is a breath of fresh air. The host really does his research on all of his topics.I would recommend this to anyone! Keep up the great work!
I started listening to the podcast last year when I got a job that required a lot of driving everyday. I wanted a podcast that would entertain my interest in world mythologies and legends. I have now made it a goal of mine to listen to every episode (Currently on episode 15), and after I’ve done that I want to start listening to Fictional. I love the way Jason tells the stories and adds in his own comments and sense of humor. With my job I’m able to listen to a minimum of two episodes a day, and they help the long drives feel shorter. I also love that he tells stories from every culture, and this has honestly helped me to get passed some aversions I had towards some cultures. It helps me see their history and how they used these stories to cope with and make sense of the world around them. Keep it up Jason!
Great podcast. Love it!
My whole family loves this podcast. The host’s delivery is perfect with a good balance of humor and sensitivity when appropriate. I listen with my kids on road trips, and I appreciate the warnings when the subject matter turns adult. Keep up the good work.
I’m one of the kids from The NY Times cruise! I love you podcast! It’s hilarious and awesome!
This podcast combines outstanding research with beautiful storytelling and a lovable personality. The results are countless hours of wholesome and humors enjoyment covering the origins of stories we take for granted. While I never met Jason, he has helped me through some of my darkest and most difficult times. This show is four years in and still getting better
Very in-depth and fun
I like how it doesn’t stick to any one culture
I found this on Spotify but after searching for two hour to find a good podcast and I love that you talk about a mythical creature.
I listened to one episode & am now binge listening to the series from the beginning. I like the random asides from a modern outlook.
the best show ever
Been listening since the beginning, love it. Especially the old fairy tales
Found this podcast a few months ago and have gotten through about 100 episodes. Jason presents the stories in a straightforward way, with the occasional dry aside or modern commentary. A great mix of storytelling and humor!
I love this podcast! Mythology has been a big interest of mine since I was a kid and it’s awesome to revisit stories from my childhood and learn new ones. I especially like stories from underexposed myth systems and fairy tales. Jason’s delivery is hilarious, especially during creature segments. Some episode ideas: Telepinu running away from the world, the Kurukshetra War, the voyage of Bran, Badang the Southeast Asian Heracles, more national epics like Lacplesis and the knight in the panther’s skin. I’ve finally worked my way back to the first episodes. What happened to the awesome sound effects in the rest of the show?
Your incredible story telling mixed with exciting myths brightens my day every time an episode drops
I have a four week old baby, and discovered this podcast just before he was born. I’ve loved listening while at home taking care of the baby. It’s so nice to have interesting stories to hear, and I enjoy learning stories that I can share with him later. I like that I can pay attention to him and nurse while listening. It helps get through tough sleepless moments! Thanks for making this podcast!!
I love this podcast so much!! I’ve always been a fan of myths and legends but this is more than I expected! I’m still new to this podcast but you can really tell how much he cares about the subject and much research and dedication he has to it! Anyways, I love everything about it! Keep it going!! 🏰⚔️👑 Much love from WA State 🌲
I don’t know how it took me 100+ episodes to write a review, but here it is. Tl;dr. I love this podcast. My brother encouraged me to give it a listen, and here we are, 100+ episodes later. It’s awesome to hear the stories that you know, have been curious about, or have never heard of-reimagined by this fantastic couple and their amazing skills. 👍🏼
I’ve been listening for a long time. On the bus, and at home or on the road.
It's a great way to learn about different myths from around th world.
i am a huge fan of this podcast!💖🌸✨ the stories you tell are always interesting. each episode seems to be better than the last. i love the creatures that are explained at the end of each episode & how you give a shoutout to the fans of this show. right on.🤙🏽
I find myself saving episodes of this podcast, for a time I can really listen intently. The host is fun and the myths are well told, in a modern way. I love the little tidbits and I feel like I’ve learned a lot about myths along the way.
I’m someone with limited time to read the things I would like to read. As mythology and legends go, this is a great way for me to learn them and greatly helps on my 2.5 hr drive to work. I, also am in ny though I am from here and live squarely in the Adirondack park.
Love the sidebars. Love the show.
This is a favorite podcast of mine for while I work on a friday. Or just want a good story to listen to
I’ve been listening since day one and heard every episode at least twice. Keep up the great work
This podcast is great, just the right amount of time and super interesting. I love the sidebars and personal touches. Keep em coming!!
Are you an English, lit, or anthology major? Or maybe you just like a good story. Maybe you have buckets of time on your hands, or are allowed to listen to music or podcasts as you sit at a desk doing a tedious and boring job. (I may fall into the incredibly specific category. But I claim nothing. ;) ) Myths and legends is a fantastic podcast. I did grow up with a lot of the original stories, and I enjoy folk tales, myths, and in general a good story. I’d love to hear the narrator’s take on Hans my hedgehog, or Sapsorrow. (Which I don’t know if it’s been done yet.) if you listen to the earlier episodes you may be put off by the quality of sound and story telling but the podcaster grew in the way he narrates and the quality of equipment in later episodes. So if you’re starting from the beginning, stick with it!
So I was looking for scary myths in the USA. And stumbled Across this podcast. It was perfect for me!!! I have learned so much and I keep annoying my wife every time I see her telling about this new story I heard!! Lol anyways... the host is great! And makes the story’s interesting and fun. Great podcast!
I rarely write reviews, but I accidentally came across this podcast and am now hooked. I started with the Sun Wukong storyline, and have been shuffling my way through the different stories. Really enjoyed Mulan and Robin Hood as well. Love the mythological creature section as well. This podcast is right in my wheel house! Keep up the great work!
Just really started listening but this podcast is awesome. I listen while I’m at work and these very interesting tales really makes the day go by. Can’t wait to get caught up as I think I’m only on the second year but I will get there
I tried out the podcast a few weeks ago and loved the stories so much that I started from the beginnings of some of the story arcs! I’m enjoying the creative ways that you throw modern perspectives into the stories in order to show how absurd they are. This has become my favorite podcast in a very short amount of time!
The content is fascinating, the narration is engaging, and the humor is always on point. This is what all podcasts should aspire to be! Cheers, Jason!
I’m new to the world of podcasts and yours is the second one I have gotten into, ever. I like that you break it down sometimes at how silly the stories are, but still do a deep dive into the topics. I also really like the anecdotes at the end of the episodes about mythical creatures. It’s a nice mix and I didn’t find myself drifting into my own thoughts so much during your podcast as I have before and miss a bunch or stuff. I LOVE stories, especially folklore/myths/legends, and you have a nice speaking voice that is easy on my ears when I get ready in the morning for work. Just wanted to shout out a thank you! Sara S.
Let me just say that this podcast is legendary! I love the way you express each and every one of the rich folklore and that you should keep up the beautiful work!
all of your pods are the best but plz do more fictional
I really enjoy your podcast and plan on going back to the first espisodes to listen to the whole collection.
I always get a new story or a take on a story I’ve never heard before. The information is great. The story telling is captivating and funny. One thing I never realized I wanted but love in this podcast is a blunt take on sexism and other backward ways of thinking inherent in so many stories. We can’t and shouldn’t erase those views from our history. Still, hearing the narration acknowledge them head on makes me feel like someone is on my side when the story feels like it wants to leave me behind because of who I am. Thank you for all you guys do.
This is quite possibly my favorite podcast I’ve ever stumbled upon. The creator focuses on all types of myths and legends from around the world, so many of these I had never read before and was delighted to hear them. The stories are thoroughly researched (which I appreciate as an English major, haha), and often written in a snarky, sarcastic tone (which I find hilariously entertaining). If you grew up reading Greek and Roman or any other mythology and want to expand your horizons, this is the podcast for you.
I’m 4 years behind, but won’t be for long! Great stories told in an authoritative and easy to listen to manner. The commentary on today’s views versus when the stories were actually developed isn’t necessary, at least not to the degree I’ve heard-but I’m only 6 episodes in. I look forward to continuing to listen, learn and hope the straight forward style doesn’t get coopted in more recent episodes as I progress. Much needed and valuable podcast. Keep it up!
The narrator’s voice is quite possibly the most soothing and relaxing I’ve listened to. The stories, while familiar, are retold in a modern vernacular and the background music isn’t jolting adding the finishing touch. So, thank you.
I just started listening to podcast and saw the title which I thought sounded pretty awesome. I am currently about 30 episodes in and have absolutely loved every single episode. I can’t wait to listen to more and this has made my drive to work and home each more bearable. If you like well told myths, legends, history, or stories this is the podcast for you.
The stories are enthralling and surprising. The narration is perfectly wry, recognizing the ridiculousness and nonsensicality in the actions of the legendary figures. An instant favorite!
This podcast is what I was looking for— beautiful mythology delivered in a modern way, and your voice is perfect— interesting and soothing. I bing-listened all day at work today, and I plan on doing it again tomorrow. Thank you! Could you please do the epic of Gilgamesh and Enkidu? Or how about Isis, Osiris, and Set? What about some biblical mythology— the story of Lilith, maybe? And I love love love that you end every episode with a mythological beast— gives me something to think about. Thank you!
I started listening a week ago, and the level of story, great audio, tongue and cheek style of this podcast is a winner. I have a degree in ancient studies around storytelling and epics - and this hits the sweet spot between Homer and Adventure Time - which is no easy feat. Bravo and keep em coming!
Finish Robin Hood plz
While the podcast relies heavily on stories from Western cultures, I really appreciate that those tales are intermixed with stories from around the world. In addition, seem to incorporate listener suggestions into his research and storytelling whenever possible. As a mythology and folklore nerd for over 30 years, I appreciate learning new stories and sources on the regular.
Love this podcast, it’s my one of my favorite podcast. Have to listen to it every Wednesday morning while driving for Uber. Thank you for the hard work and keep it up
It is a great podcast for kids and adults 5 stars cause Jason is the best story teller ever
I’ve listened to each episode like 5 times and I think you should do one on Alice in Wonderland.
A very entertaining, enlightening podcast! I love the relaxed tone, the witticisms, and the breadth of stories from multiple cultures and eras.
I love Myths and Legends and every since listening to my first episode, Snow Queen, I have been hooked
This is such an awesome way to learn and immerse yourself into different cultures.
THIS IS MAH FAV PODCUST I LUV AND WANT TO LISTEN TO MOOORE PLS MEK 2 PER WEEK NOWWW!!!
Well, I finally did it. I got up to date on the Myths and Legends podcast, having listened since April as I drive to and from work. Very intriguing concept, and I enjoyed a lot of the insights. I’m looking forward to hearing more in the future.
I’ve been trying to find a podcast to listen to while I’ve been waiting for more episodes of the two others I listen to (Ear Biscuits and The Adventure Zone). And this one was an amazing find, it’s great hearing all these old legends/myths.
I applaud Jason for bringing his wit and creativity together in this podcast. It seems that the our enjoyment of his work is close to his enjoyment of doing his work. In starting a hobby, he unintentionally started a community and a career. Amazing.
I think they’d be impressed. In fact, he probably narrates the stories in much the same way their storytellers did - using the vernacular of the day. Thanks for doing away with the long-winded narrative usually found in dusty old volumes; concise plots and dialogue between characters makes these myths & legends so pleasing to listen to! And I doubt people realize the amount of pouring over those tedious texts the writers have to do to create each episode. Keep up the great work!
Great story telling.
I’ve been a long time listener of the podcast but I would love to hear more from Polynesian or Hawaiian lore. Mainly stuff like stories of King Kamehameha I or stories of the Hawaiian pantheon. Or the Polynesian pantheon. I’m a mainlander part-Hawaiian raised in Alabama and would like to learn more about the gods and legends of Hawaii.
These stories are fascinating and I just love them. Sometimes the hosts humor can be obnoxious and i don’t care for the creature feature at the end but the stories he tells are interesting and I love listening to them!
Very good, Great story teller improved Significantly since the early days. I listen to it all the time work, working out, and gaming.
Thank you for putting so much into these podcasts! You have a very good way of putting these stories into perspective and into understandable words. I also love how you and your wife work on these together!
This is the best podcast that I have ever listened to and I have listened to a lot of podcasts like this like Lore, Cults and podcasts like that. I love the way Jason turns classic story’s that would usually sound dull but these are the Myths and Legends that we love with a funny modern spin on things. You have to listen to this podcast
I love listening to your podcasts. The way you tell them and the research you put in them. Thank you !
I don’t really like podcasts. They are often slow, monotone and the speaker can’t stay on topic. When my fiancé told me about this podcast, I was skeptical. I love myths and legends and have fond memories of my dad reading me stories as a kid. I gave it a chance and was so glad I did! I listen every chance I get. Listening to his voice is both soothing and exciting. I love his well researched stories and excellent delivery of each one. He stays true to the original stories while giving modern guidance. Incredible work! Both my fiancé and I are hooked!
This guy has an awesome voice and skill of being able to tell a story in a relaxed and natural way while also being funny! Honestly, if you’re wondering if you’d like it, you will, listen and enjoy. It’s awesome 10/10 Also I love mythology of all kinds and old tales but a lot of the times I have a hard time understanding the more complex/ye oldey language it was written in, and he tells it in a fun, modern spoken way which is AMAZING both fun and clear!!
Totally not worth the time. The glib style of retelling these stories mocks their value.
The content is so interesting, and his voice is so soothing! The issue is I often fall asleep when I listen to it because it’s so smooth, but I have to go back because I always want to know the end of the story.
Love the podcast! Please keep going. I listen on both Spotify and Apple podcasts. You are a wonderful storyteller!
Great stuff. I love the 80’s kinda music when our heroes go on their quests or encounter the bad guys. Well played...
Very funny and is just overall a great podcast!
Recently found this and have been going through the back catalog. Am finding this podcast to be very fun and interesting to listen to.
My job is only slightly soul-crushing, but even on the worst days, this show makes me smile. The myths and legends themselves are awesome, but something about all the personality and humor Jason puts in each telling that makes the stories somehow even better. I am definitely a fan of the Weisers.
Diverse myths from both western and non-western sources retold by a funny, golden-voiced host. Mostly family friendly (he warns you when its not.) And you can tell the host works really hard to do his research and be culturally respectful. Love the creature feature. Have you done the ‘Hoop snake’ of American folklore? It bites its own tail and rolls after its victims.
I love this podcast. The host has a relaxing voice and a dry sense of humor, which is perfect! It’s educational and entertaining and whenever I play it, my daughter gravitates towards it to listen with me. She’s 11 and obsessed with Greek mythology and when I warned her it was dark and not like Disney, she rolled her eyes because she already knew that and also likes it that way. Thanks for all the work you do! I’m making my way through old episodes in an attempt to catch up and I’ve really enjoyed it.
This is the best podcast and I love listening to it. And there is a creature that comes from Hawaii and it is called a Menahoni (I know that’s wrong but ok) and my dad told me of them when I was little and they are super interesting so that might be cool but up to you,
I absolutely love this podcast. The stories are very well done, and I get to learn about so many that I’ve never heard of before!
I grew up listening to Greek myths and have always loved hearing them. This show is so good at retelling them in a fun way. I also really enjoy hearing the stories that If haven't heard or aren't very familiar with. I would 100% recommend this podcast to anyone who likes stories, and really who doesn't?
Refreshing and entertaining way of hearing stories of human history and culture!
It's like the bedtime stories your parents would tell you, only the kid gloves are off this time. There's something a bit magical about hearing an old tale with fantastic details, isn't there? Jason does a great job translating them into a podcast friendly format, often stopping to explain a detail that would be ignored by most retellings. I feel like I'm learning more about the cultures that made these stories as well as collecting fun stories to retell myself. I can also now be THAT PERSON when watching an adaption of any of these tales. You know the one that says "Actually..." or "The original telling was more like..."? So thanks for making me more knowledgable and obnoxious! :D
I love this podcast! The English major in me loves listening to someone bring these stories alive. I love listening to the commentary and side notes that don't take these stories too seriously (at least the western stories that I always studied tend to take themselves too seriously and I love that Myths and Legends calls that out). Everyone should listen to this!
This is a really great podcast- it’s funny and educational, while also satisfying my kinda warped side. I really enjoy the host’s way of telling a story. As the daughter of an English teacher, I grew up being told stories about the Gods, the various fables and all types of mythology, so much so that I am now obsessed with this stuff. This podcast contains stories I’ve never heard before and I LOVE that! I’m also remembering names and myths that I had forgotten about, and it’s such a nostalgic, heartwarming feeling. I’m so glad I found this podcast - THANK YOU!!! It’s amazing!
I love how he makes super serious myths hilarious. The recipe for the perfect myth pod A dash of Egyptian Myths A Cup of Norse A teaspoon of Greek A splash of The Brothers Grimm A stir of Hans Christian Anderson Finally, a drizzle of Celtic
Was introduced to the show couple years ago and instantly fell in love. My favorite part is the creature of the week. Buttercat FTW!
I just recently found this podcast, and was immediately hooked! This is my new go-to show on my commute and at the gym. It’s so easy to get lost in the story that I often find myself listening in my parked car long after I’ve made it home from work. I love the variety of the stories, and I can always find something to help me laugh and brighten my day with each episode I listen to. Can’t think of a better podcast to start and end my day with!
This is in my top two favorites! Soo good! I love myths and legends! My chinchilla chamomile does too. Yas!
I absolutely love this podcast. I have never listened to one before and the topics peak my interest so I gave it a shot. I listen to you while I’m at work and you make my day. They way you tell the story’s draw me I every time. I have nothing but the greatest things to say about this show. Thank you for what you do and thank you for making my work days that much more enjoyable!
Myths and Legends is a lovely show about the stories of, well, you know what it's about. The hosts are great, and the topics are covered in a lot of depth (which, well, thanks for that!). You'll learn about some old favorites, of course, but also a few off the beaten path legends/myths, which gives this a lot of replay value. If you're a myth fan, give it a listen. If you're not, listen anyway. You'll learn something!
I have always loved fairytales and myths and I love that he tells the original versions
Have listened to this podcast since its inception and seen good become even better. Love the voice and the tremendous respct and consideration given for the subject matter. "Creature of the week" is icing on an already excellent cake!
Please notice me and do more renard the Fox
What a great podcast to keep you entertained at work or when you’re doing dishes. I have recommended this podcast to so many friends and look forward to new episodes and silly Dad jokes each week. Thank you for all your hard work. I’m excited for new episodes of Fictional! All the dogs at Charlie’s Angels Animal Rescue say “hello!” <3
I love this podcast
You are doing a great job so keep it up and please do more Pecos Bill please
The story-telling, humor, and tone are very well executed. I believe the Japanese takes have been my favorite so far. Also, how about some Aztec, Mayan, Incan, and other More southern Native American tales? - J M Oglesby
One of my absolute favorite podcasts! I love the corny dad jokes, and all of the different myths and legends. Even more, I love that I am able to listen with my 3 year old son. I even retell him a few stories! Love love love!
This podcast is so intriguing and well done I’ve been binging it. Now I’m so behind on all of my podcasts but it’s so worth it
this is such a good podcast i listen to it all day long.
I really appreciate this podcast! I’ve even gone back and re-listened to several episodes.
I love this podcast sooooo much! Especially the eps on Norse mythology
The stories and production are always top notch.
Your podcast has risen to be one of my favorites. I went back to listen to some of your first shows and have seen how you have grown in your story telling. It’s all good! Keep going!
This podcast is awesome and fun to Kirsten too
This was the very first podcast I ever listened to. The narrator is engaging, the topics are fascinating and the length of each is just right. After listening to a few recent episodes, I went back to the very beginning- they’re that good! Binge listening may have spoiled me once I catch up, but it’s so worth it! Keep up the great work!
I absolutely love this show, but I would love for Myths and legends to cove legends like Blackbeard and somewhat more current myths.
This podcast is so interesting Jason does a great job telling these stories
I love the unique way Jason presents these myths and legends. I have heard a lot of them before but he presents them from a 21st century perspective and is hilarious!! I have only read and heard these stories in an academic and serious context before so I really appreciate the comedic approach that the host takes. Thanks for all the laughs! I don’t even mind getting weird looks at work when I laugh out loud as I listen to your show through my headphones.
Love this podcast. I learn so much, and it’s fun to listen to.
This is the first time ever that I ever stopped to rate anything. This show has been fantastic. The narrator voice, dry humor, editorial comments and most of the timing and delivery has made each and every story, folklore, mythical creature an absolute pleasure. I drive Uber in the twilight hours and listen all night into daybreak and even have my riders listen as well. Thank you for your effort and hard work as I am sure just preparing yourself with the information each podcast is a feat on its own.
By far my favorite podcast. Such a fun take on so many of the legends from our past. Listened to every episode!!!
It is a awesome podcast fun for kids and adults and it isooooooo epic and it has excellent stories and great narrator
The narrative engages and taps treasure trove of tales that have stood the test of time. There is something pure and rich about sharing stories this way, as they would have been shared around the fire hundreds of years ago. We paint the pictures in our head. The narrator has a wry sense of humor and shows storytelling at its finest. If my iPhone did not exist I’d travel many miles to listen. I’m so glad my priestess suggested I check this podcast out. There is magic in this medium.
they are so interesting and the narrator is perfect!
Do listen if you are a fan of sci-fi or fantasy and want to learn
---Unknown---Plz rewrite Mulan--- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ---July 17---Amazing--- If you actually saw my review plz mention my username. P.S. You don't have to mention my username. It would just ne very nice. Thx as always!
Love this Podcast!
I just discovered this podcast and have been listening to several episodes a day. The host is smart, funny, thoughtful and just the right amount of sarcastic. I love this podcast.
An amazing podcast and amazing use of the medium. It is reminiscent of the pre-television era radio dramas. I love how the stories are brought back into their original context in an academic and informed way that is still entertaining and fun. Plot points and symbolism that may seem strange without a fair understanding of the culture are explained well, briefly, and in a non-condescending manor. The discussion at the end of each story acknowledges the listeners modern interpretation and the original message of story. The narrators dryly sarcastic asides make the show all the more enjoyable. I can’t wait for each weeks episode.
My favorite podcast! Even though he includes his “21st century opinion” he always disclaims it appropriately and it’s always relevant & hilarious :-) thank u for making my walks to class more entertaining
I love this podcast!!! The storytelling is so engaging, fun, and soothing. I even like the way you do your advertisements, and this is the only podcast I listen to that I would say that about. I started listening for the Greek mythology stories but have very much enjoyed learning about other myths and legends out there. Expanding my horizons! Thank you so much for doing this!
I have been waiting to write a review because, well I don’t know why. I’m guessing because I’ve been waiting for the monkey king. I’m definitely not disappointed. This podcast has gotten me through some very bad times and insomnia. It is my go to almost every night not that it puts me to sleep then it sits my mind and keeps it busy. What I don’t digest at night I listen to when I drive. Always amusing and digestible and I love the stories at the end also. I always recommend it to people that are having a hard time in their lives as an escape as it’s not something that’s going to pull you towards the negative. But that monkey oh he is the best 🙏🏽 thank you thank you thank you so much keep it coming! I also listened to this during the day when I am cleaning my house and I get so much done it’s in sane. My husband wonders what I’m giggling about and why I won’t stop doing what I’m doing. And again thank you.
This is my new favorite podcast! I discovered it less than a month ago and I’ve already made it through almost the whole backlog of episodes!
We’ve been listening to this podcast for years, especially during long drives. The stories entertain everyone in the car and keep the driver awake. This is a great podcast for the whole family!
This podcast is my favorite way to spend my free time. The comedy and ridiculousness of these myths keeps me on my toes for the next episode. This podcast is unrivaled by any other. It ceases to amaze me that there are so many myths shaping cultures around the world. Good job, Jason.
We really enjoy Myths and Legends. Not only is it interesting and great storytelling, but also calming. When I need to tune out the crazy, sometimes depressing happenings of the day, I turn on an episode. Sometimes I even get a tip or two on how to deal with my own real life creatures and demons. Thank you!
The narrator is funny and is able to keep my attention. The stories are very interesting, and very different from what I thought they were. The music is wonderful too. It’s great to listen to no matter what you’re doing. Amazing podcast that’s also educational. Great job! Love it!
Please make your show longer. We want the extra details and tangents! Please!
Great great podcast! My favorite storytelling podcast for sure!
You have a solid narrator and story teller here, who has refined his craft over several hundred episodes to bring the original myths and legends to a modern audience. The snarky comments do add to the tales, and he is tactful enough to provide appropriate warnings about the gorier legends when they arise.
I love your podcast. Before this I hated podcasts I thought they were so lame but yours are fantastic. Keep up the great work.
This is such a great podcast. The narrator does an outstanding job translating all these stories.
This podcast has been such an awesome way to accent my days working a unique Summer job on a vineyard here in Japan!
Really really awsum ⚡️✨🌟⭐️💫☄️💥🔥🌪🌈
A beautiful blend of myths, fairytales, legends, folklore and more! This is definitely my go-to pod cast while I’m cleaning, driving or just chilling at home. With 4 seasons to dig through, there’s no shortage of interesting stories. Well done!
Great stuff! Huzzah!
This show is amazing!I listened to it on my way back from a trip and I had to look it up. I love this podcast it is very interesting. Thank you for reading this! Thank you for making this!
I found this podcast a few months ago. In that time I’ve devoured all 146 stories. Now I’m all caught up and have nothing left to do!!! Any chance you can just go ahead and drop 146 more stories this week? No? Ok. I guess I’ll have to wait...and listen to fictional. This podcast truly is great to listen to. The stories are fantastic and the telling of them is amazing. I hope this lasts a long time. I can’t wait for my kids to grow up a bit and listen with me.
This show is just the bee’s knees.
I like the stories but I noticed a few are unfinished or I can’t access the last part of the story, like robin hood he ends part c like there should be a part D. Is there a way to get them that o can’t figure out?
The host not only shares stories from cultures around the world, he does so in a way that employs his own commentary. Instead of reading the stories directly from a book, he tells each story (myth, legend, whatnot) in his own words making it easy to understand and follow — all the while adding colorful commentary to make each story more relatable to current times. Highly recommend this podcast to anyone who loves hearing stories retold!
Amazing! Keep up the awesome work! Would like to hear more about this handsome Odin person. Sounds like an awesome guy!
I love this show. I listen to it almost everyday!!!! Thank you for writing this show, it is the best!!!!
I just started listening to this podcast about a week ago. So far, I am very impressed by how well narrated and researched this is. I am going to be a long time fan, for sure. Thank you for all of the work you put into bringing these amazing tales to life! Keep up the good work!
I LOVE this podcast. I work a boring corporate job for 8 hours and I just discovered this podcast about a week ago. I love the way Jason tells stories and adds short editorial comments.
This podcast is a great way to learn myths from all cultures and of course to bone up on the classic Greek stories. The best part is the witty commentary on the curious foibles in most myths. A lighthearted yet thorough romp through the strange psychological landscape of mythology.
Jason is an amazing story teller that makes these myths a journey into the past when mom and dad read bed time stories. My wife and I are excited for every new episode! Thank you for your creations!
Im super stoked you exist
Listened to this podcast for my really long road trip
Should have reviewed years ago but just hands down one of the best podcasts out there
I’ve read a lot of the Greek and Norse mythologies in the past and I love how you guys are able to make them more relatable to the everyday listener. Great work!!
I love this show, it’s so funny when you go off the story and add modern sentences, and replies. <3
This is excellent. Greasy and fun but without changing the tone and meat of the story- he does a wonderful job retelling the stories for a modern audience without changing them. I also enjoy that he warms you if anything will be super bad or inappropriate
I have told everyone I know about how awesome this show is please keep it up!
This is by far my favorite podcast.
Great podcast with an informative and still entertaining style of storytelling. I’ve read a lot of mythology and folklore but still hear new stories I’d never heard of!
I love this podcast so much! It has all my favourite myths and legends, then ones i dont know, but enjoy just as much. Anyone who listens to this podcast should enjoy it. All together a great podcast.
I like to listen to this in my down time. Very fun, but please give a disclaimer if the dog dies. I wasn’t ready for that. 😅😭
I only found this podcast a few months ago and have been obsessed since. I have listened to all the episodes, some even more than once. Jason has reignited my love of myths, legend and fairytales. I have forced all my friends to listen.
This has been my favorite podcast for as long as I have listened to podcasts. The storytelling, subtle musical scoring and unique commentary allow you to feel like part each episode. I have struggled with anxiety for a few years now and being able to escape into another world has helped me beyond words. If you have trouble sleeping, need some help relaxing or just have about 45 minutes of free time for a great story; I’d recommend this podcast to you. Thank you so much Jason and Carissa!
M magnificent Y yo-yo for it is fun like T terrific H handsome I think you are & L lol E epic G grand A amazing N not terrible D dumb you are if you do not listen S slick is his humor
I love this because Jason manages to tell interesting folktakes from around the world in a unique and amazingly funny way. This is the only podcast I listen to regularly on here. Thanks, Jason and Carissa
This podcast is soooooo good! I can’t believe I stumbled onto a podcast of this caliber. Honestly, this is a G R E A T podcast
This show is great, one of the best out there! Thanks to Jason and Carissa and keep up the good work! ❤️
By far my favorite podcast I’ve been listening for a long time and it never gets old. Each episode is better then the last. And every episode is as accurate as you can get for folk lore But this podcast finds the way versions and the best ways of telling them wile being funny and sad, intense and relaxing I cannot possibly recommend this podcast enough. And I hope you keep up the good work. 👍
Jason is so awesome and I just love this podcast I listen to it all the time.
Thank you Jason and Carissa for your amazing podcast. Not only is it educational, it is told in a very entertaining and sometimes tongue in cheek manner. Thank you for trying to be inclusive of all world cultures. I have to shout out to the Monkey King episode. This is one of the most famous tales retold by the Chinese diaspora throughout the world. however, growing up in the US, I had hard time understanding it. You told it in a way that allowed me to relate to my heritage. Thank you.
This is the podcast that made me start listening to podcasts.
I love listening to it but I hate when my phone gets wet.
I have never been interested in myth and legend stories until now. Great podcast, highly recommend
I listen to this every night.
I’ve been binging rn at 143!! Good job 👍 best pod ever!
I have read and learned about myths and legends a while back and have always had an interest in it. However, this podcast is the best thing to ever happen to me. They way it's told brings a whole new engaging perspective to the stories that I never thought was possible. I love this channel and can't wait to hear more. Could you talk about the Dewayyo for a future weekly creature? Thanks you much. Keep up the amazing work.
Please keep doing what you are doing! Best podcast thank you!
My very favorite podcast.
I love your podcast it’s so amazing. The way you tell the stories just puts me right with the characters of them
This is one of the best podcasts out there! And you never ever get bored! I love all the stories Jason tells and I am starting to love the Japanese ones. I highly recommend listening to this:) ( I am glad he warns about explicit content )
I love the way stories are told on this podcast. I hate podcasts, I’ve never found one that I wanted to actually listen to the person, but I listen to this religiously now. I discovered this a couple weeks ago when I was looking for some info on the saga of the volsungs to accompany my reading, and now I’m 20 or so episodes in and hooked. The stories are well researched, which is important, but the best part I think comes from the editing (one of the things I hate most about podcasts is people just rambling, I have to listen to that in the real world anyway, why would I want more of that) and perfect trimming of details. I don’t know how to better explain it than it’s a very concise way to get a story and a take on it. Like a professor that puts a lot of time into making lectures gripping. If you’re reading this, and for some reason didn’t stop reading a review after the first paragraph, please try this podcast out, it’s so well thought out and worth your time.
This is an incredible podcast done with the fantastic story telling stories that you may never heard of before. I look forward to listening to the podcast each week and it never lets me down. 10 out of 10 recommend!!!
This is one of my favorite podcasts..usually I prefer interview formats but this is the one exception. It is absolute perfection.
Love this podcast! I'm a big fan of myths and folklore but with the added humor and side comments by the host it's a gem.
I just started listening and am already enthralled. Great podcast and great retelling on old stories.
I have always been fascinated by how myths, legends, and fairytales reveal the cultural values of the cultures they represent—sometimes even more so than the histories recorded about those cultures—and I love how your podcast shows that to be true. Thank you for sharing these wonderful stories with the world and taking into account all sorts of different cultures. The only thing I would suggest is that you bring in some African stories. There are some wonderful, interesting ones that should be brought to broader knowledge. Thank you again for your work! You have made many long car rides bareable 😂
This is a great podcast full of great content. It is bought to life in an informative and fascinating way. I love the story telling done in the format!
What a fantastic podcast!!! It’s one of my favorites. I’ve learned about myths and legends and laughed out loud with your witty humor! Please keep them coming. ❤️❤️
I’m a mailman near St. Louis and my job gets very monotonous, so I listen to a lot of podcasts. This one is a favorite, so much so that sometimes I get so into the story that I forgot what I’m doing. Sometimes I may put the wrong mail in someone’s mailbox. No worries though, I just blame this podcast! But, if I hit a mailbox, I’m sending you the bill! Thanks for what you guys do!
Ive been listening for a few years now and it keeps getting better and better. My favorite podcast hands down, Jason does an amazing job of introducing us listeners to new stories from around the world, many I would probably never have heard of other wise.
Amazing show highly recommend I love his side remarks are super funny overall great podcast.
Yes. Finally gots me an 🍎📞 so I can leave 5⭐️’s.
The commentary in this podcast is amazing and the stories are equally so. I love all the research that he does and how he tells them.
This is probably my favorite podcast I’ve ever heard and I’m about to listen to every episode again this time in order
This show gets me through me day. It’s like story time at work! Keep up the amazing work! Love it!
I have been listening to this podcast for over a year, and it's become like a favorite book series - I listen over and over. My favorites are the Greek myths and King Arthur series (btw, these would be top on my list to re-record- they're great but I know Jason would make them even better with his new format), though I love the smattering of stories from various other cultures. The Indian myths are outstanding, and I absolutely love the Jungle Book episodes. Jason is an excellent storyteller, blending ancient concepts with modern terminology and a dash of wittiness.
Started listening a couple of weeks ago. I like that I can hear the stories and not have to read the “art for thou blah blah blah” writing. I think the summaries are well read and the commentary is humorous. I look forward to every chance I get to listen to this podcast. Keep up the good work.
Jason Weiser has a knack for taking the world’s ancient stories and drawing out the very essence to craft a thoroughly exciting and contemporary take on these timeless tales.
My dad showed me this podcast when he was doing the story of Little red riding hood and ever since then, I have not missed a single podcast. I even went back to the first few and listened to them over and over. Keep up the amazing work!!!!!!! -katana
I’ve been listening to Myths and Legends for about a year now, and have just now caught up with the most recent episode. I listen at work, on road trips, during long runs, and various other places, and I cannot stress this enough: This podcast is phenomenal. Jason’s voice transports you into the story and you will laugh, cry, and learn great life tips (such as don’t go into the dark forest alone, to stay away from Zeus, and so much more.) A must listen for those who loved story time as a kid, and those who want to hear the most accurate retelling of myths and legends from around the world.
This was the first podcast that opened me up to the world of podcasts and for that I'm eternally grateful to you. I love the jokes despite the push-back that you get for them. Please keep doing them. They are definitely one of the highlight of the podcast
Honestly i dont even know how i came across this podcast but i love the stories and the way he tells them!
Simply the best!
This podcast is intriguing, amazing, and whip smart with contemporary tongue-in-cheek delivery. The narrator has an inviting voice and enough deadpan delivery to make even the most bizarre tales enticing to hear. I always look forward to listening.
I love a good myth/legend/old story and this show does it in a way that is modern and intriguing. The humor and story telling by the host has made this one of my favorite shows. Go binge away and thank me later. (:
Is 10 stars an option? I am so glad I found this podcast! I have loved mythology since I can remember and the stories that “forge our modern world”. The problem is A) finding all the great mythology in the world and B) getting through some pretty dense and inconsistent writings and recounting of mythology. This podcast does all that work for you! Not only is there a great variety of stories from all over the world but it’s presented in a more “modern” tone that makes it easier to listen to as well as understand some of the context behind the stories themselves. Not only have I been entertained, but I learned a lot about mythology and about story telling! Thank you for all the work that goes into this podcast! I am so excited for more!
This podcast is everything I never knew I wanted in a podcast. I'm always entertained and each episode is so well done. Recommending to all my family and friends.
I just discovered my love for story podcasts and have always loved myths and legends. The host of this podcast has a good voice, easy to listen to. You get sucked into the story without even realizing. I love that the stories are original and that he adds his own modern little quips along the way. I will be listening weekly as soon as I catch up on all of the ones that have been released so far!!
I really like this podcast. I especially like how he compares the price of membership to some wacky thing he found on the internet.
Jason has a gift for telling stories that is hard to find. What I appreciate most is the care with which he treats the material, crafting compelling narratives, taking time to comment and explain the source material, while enduring the whole podcast with a humour and proximity that makes you feel like your listening to a dear friend spinning a yarn over beers at the pub. He makes the obscure familiar and the familiar riveting. Keep up the great work!
I love this podcast! I've never been a podcast person because I get too distracted by the things I'm doing to listen. This one is different! It's my go-to for both long road trips and cleaning the house. He's funny and makes stories engaging while you listen.
Best story style podcast. This is so well researched and constructed!
This show is beyond amazing. He has found a way to tell old stories is such a new and passionate way that I am eagar to listen to every episode no matter where i am in the world. What i appreciate the most is how he tells stories that would be uncomfortable in an engaging, understanding, and compasionate way. Oh and my favorite episode is definately Twinning. I love the overall theme and how the two sisters had each others back till the end. It made Elsa and Anna look like child's play. This show deserves more than 5 stars.
Just in case Other it’s awsome
I love the storytelling and humor in the show. I love the stories and how he can tell us how much sense it does or doesn’t make lol. So glad I found this show. I have gone back and listened to them all and can’t wait for more to come. One of my faves
I love this podcast, I’ve been listening for awhile and it’s easily one of my all time favorites! The way the stories are presented are enjoyable and easy to listen. Great for long car car rides, work around the house. I honestly just keep listening even when I’m going to sleep. It’s just kind of addicting especially the connected stories and lore. Keep up the good work!
I just found this podcast yesterday and I haven’t been able to stop listening to it! I’m starting with all his Norse and Viking lore and it’s very educational! If you love to learn about other cultures and legends then I highly suggest this podcast!
I listen to this every night and I love how he brings the story into the real world. I think, like you said, you should redo some old episodes like episode 1. Keep up the good work.
I really like Rick Riordan-type myth stories, but I like this Version too. I like to listen to this on weekends because it’s a really good podcast and I like learning about different And telling people the different stories. It’s fun to watch their reactions sometimes. Keep going!
The stories are interesting and the commentary funny and engaging. I like how comments are made on the messed up parts of the legends so as not to legitimize racist or sexist themes or child murder. It’s a fun way to learn famous stories from many different cultures.
As a child growing up I was always engrossed with folk tales and lore. For me they were always a window to some ancient time guarded by the light of a dwindling camp fire. And at their heart a shred of wisdom or insight for anyone lucky enough to be in ear shot. Time moved on and as I grew older I “matured” my consumption to well known and unwell known authors, graphic novels, movies, shows, and music. And over the years, reading and hearing the varied voices has become its own challenge with so many wonderfully amazing contributing factors that would bring a story to life. Here, on this podcast, I am immediately swept back to my fond and happy childhood with this amazing narrative on our heroes and legends. A true and noble gift, thank you so much!!! I hope there will never be an end to this amazing and brilliant show!
This is a decidedly male point of view that can be somewhat dismissive. I love the Little Mermaid - it about generousity and selflessness, dude.
I like how he adds a little humor here and there. It really ties things together. Also, every episode is really interesting in it’s own way. It’s so good, that I even listen to it in the middle of boring lecture in school!
This is the best podcast ever!!! I absolutely love the content and Jason is so great at telling these stories I highly recommend it and listen to it every night
The Weiser’s have done an excellent job of collecting and retelling the stories we have all heard bits of. They find the sources and do the research to get the story right. Jason does an excellent job of keeping the stories fun with a great story telling manner. Always look forward to a new installment.
I'm a medieval art historian and I research religious and mythological representation. This is the best podcast for this field that I have found in terms of depth, consistency, accuracy, and intrigue. The vernacular you use makes for very pleasant and engaging listening. I have just signed up for the members program and am very excited to see your sources and extra materials. Please continue to do justice to these hidden gems and keep the oral traditions of history and culture alive. Also, please find the story of True and Untrue from Scandinavia. It was one of my favorites growing up as a kid with Norwegian grandparents. As you probably know, Asbjornsen and Moe are like the Grimm brothers and compiled many oral narratives. You can find that story there along with east o the sun and west o the moon, which is similar to the Romanian fairy tale you told.
This podcast is absolutely amazing, my new addiction. I found it two weeks ago and haven’t stopped listening since.
Really great podcast, we listen every week!
Very enjoyable listen. The storytelling and structure makes every episode legendary.
I love everything about this podcast! I can put this on no matter what I’m doing or how I’m feeling! It always gives me the warm fuzzies. I feel both entertained and educated. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!
I love this podcast!!! I’m starting at the beginning and going up but it doesn’t change anything!!!
Myths & Legends is probably my favority pod. Like if I was stuck on an island and could only keep listening to one pod this would easily be the one. I've been a listener from early in the show and Jason's storytelling has gotten better over the years, something I didn't thein was possible. I'm thrilled he's revisiting some of the older episodes and look forward to many more years of story telling.
The Weisers do a fabulous job delivering the ancient tales with consistent accuracy and completeness. They dispense with most of the archaic language but with none of the minute details that are often overlooked or twisted in modern renditions of classic myth.
In my opinion, a podcast lives and dies by the quality of its audio. The music, the speaker, and the topic all work together to make an enjoyable experience. Jason and Carissa deliver exactly that each and every podcast. The topics and delivery are awesome. I can’t say enough about Myths and Legends. I look forward to making it through the whole catalog of shows.
I came across this podcast the middle of last year and I follow it all the time. I love how broad Jason in the many of cultures. I heard some of my favorites and I have learned soo much more. I have a 2 1/2 yr old at home so I’m happy I don’t have to worry about the content of his dialogue and I can play them through my Bluetooth speakers if I choose to. Keep it up Jason! Oh btw I was a little disappointed Jason gave away the ending of the film La Llorona right before the story began. But oh well one could easily look past this.
I love this podcast. It is very interesting and informative. I really like the informal storytelling style.
Each and every story is so well rewritten and read. Done so well. Can elevate your mood quickly. A must add to podcast to your list
I am so glad I found this podcast!! I started out just listening to it during my commute, but now I listen to it every night before bed as well. Very interesting while also being educational.
This podcast was recommended to me by my astronomy professor and I’m never disappointed! I love they way y’all put a modern voice to old time stories while still holding the authenticity of the original story!
I love when M&L’s shows up with a new episode, highly entertaining and informative! It takes some dusty old texts and put s a modern spin on them without changing the story. 11/10 would recommend
I absolutely love this podcast, I’m so happy I found it. I’ve always loved mythology and studied classics in college. So when I found this podcast I was delighted. I’ve learned so many new stories that I’ve never heard before. It’s very entertaining, Jason is a perfect narrator and writer.
I listened to one and I was hooked. I cannot get enough!! The way Jason tells these timeless tales is both thoughtful and amusing. Forever a fan! Twinning was the best fairy tale I have ever heard!! Thank you for making my day once a week!
This style of storytelling is fantastic, it’s as if he opened up a fairy tale book and is reading straight from it! There is dialogue between the subjects, as well as historical anecdotes. It reminds me of when I got read to before bed. Amazing!
Have been a fan for years now thanks for the great story telling!
This podcast is amazing for personal entertainment, but is just as awesome for my high school students! All the epic stories with no overly graphic language! Love all the different genres and countries this narrator pulls from - LOVE LOVE LOVE ❤️
I listen to this podcast while building LEGO. I listen and build what you are talking about. I am just eleven but I LOVE the podcast!
It’s a fantastic podcast and you should listen to it
My wife and I love this podcast! We are always eager for the next myth or legend and we get lots of laughs from these stories every week! Thank you for doing this podcast!
I started out listening to the podcast as something to listen to while knitting, but now I listen to this with my clients too. I work with adults with disabilities and they love to listen to the stories with me. The stories are interesting and well researched. Well done!
Genuinely one of my favorite podcasts. I love the wide scope of cultures covered, and the diversity of tales told. The narrator’s delivery is great, and the retellings are well composed, with a wonderful mix of originality and humor in each of the stories. I also really appreciate the interjections or acknowledgments of racism or sexism that are just part of the original stories (ie, Medusa) because, it brings a bit of the modern perspective, which I think validates the listener’s feelings without detracting from the story. (Shameless request: I would love to hear some myths from the Aztec and Mayans (seriously, the Aztecs have some metal creation myths. Kinda like the Norse I think). Also, I always love the stories of the North American Native peoples.) I also love the other podcast, Fictional. It’s a lot of fun to listen to, and I hope it will continue! Keep up the good work!
I started listening to Myths a Legends a few months ago, per recommendation of my fiancé. I’m a short time I was completely hooked. Jason has a great voice, and a real knack for storytelling. I love his take on a lot of classic characters and his light humor he throws in; most notably his open dislike for Zeus. As of now I’ve listened to almost every episode, I’m currently working my way through the Viking and Nordic Tales. I especially loved all the Greek Tales, and the epic of Gilgamesh. My favorite episode tho was Maui: The Mauiest Maui. It was a tale I knew next to nothing about and thoroughly enjoyed it. I really enjoy listening to this podcast every morning, and look forward to new episodes every week. Thank you for all the stories you’ve introduced me to, and expanding on the ones I thought I knew. Really, keep up the great work.
So, I don’t usually write reviews, but I can’t get enough of this podcast. It’s like sitting around a fire in some ancient woods listening to a wizened bearded bard spin stories and tales of old. Such a beautiful connection to culture and history! Thanks Jason!
I have never heard a podcast like this and I’m glad my mother suggested it to me. It’s so interesting! Myths and Legends always surprises me. It just keeps getting better and better! I suggest this podcast to all of you! If your interested in Myths, Legends, Fantasy, and I little mix of fun, you’ll love this podcast! As I’ve said 1,000 times already, its the best podcast ever! I LOVE THIS PODCAST! From, This podcasts biggest fan.
I typically listen to Myths and Legends, and sometimes Fictional. The depth and research Jason Weiser puts into each episode is astounding. I listen to some of he more appropriate episodes with my younger sister (she’s 8) and the heads up at the beginning of each episode is great. I play the episodes during car rides, and this podcast makes the drive all the better. We (me, my dad and my sister) love the creature of the week part at the end, along with the constant jokes and modern/pop culture references being quite funny. The background music is a bit loud, but that’s ok. Thank you so much for this podcast, and your dedication towards this community.
One of my top three podcasts! The entire family digs it!
I’m 11 and I love listening to the podcast, listen to every Tuesday right when it comes out. Favorite episode has to be the one with gest 😉😄
Thanks Jason! I enjoy the story telling, infused with humor and wit. He does his homework to give (either before or after the story) a bit of context of the author or time in history or relevant cultural details for the listener to have a fuller appreciation of the story.
I’ve been listening to this podcast from the beginning and I’m finally writing a review. Like binge watching any good Netflix series, I binge listen to M&L at work and am on my third or fourth go around. Jason’s modern day thoughts and sarcasm about incidents in the stories adds an entertaining and laughable spin on each episode. His dislike of Zeus cracks me up because you can hear his distaste for him in his voice (and rightly so! Zeus is a cad!). I’ve heard stories I never thought I would hear and I love learning about the origins of classic stories I already knew. Jason’s soothing voice makes listening to this podcast that much more enjoyable. I appreciate his ability to keep it clean even when he’s talking about violence and sexual assault. He prefaces each episode that might not be appropriate for younger ears with a warning to check out the show on the website first to see if it’s age appropriate. This is hands down my favorite podcast and I always find myself switching back to it when I can’t find something else to listen to. I was genuinely pleased when he announced that he was able to quit his job and do this full time. You can tell he loves what he does and he does it well. Jason and Carissa have worked very hard to create such a wonderful podcast and I glad to be part of his listening audience. See you next time.
This podcast makes my day when there is an episode download. Please redo the early episodes. I love them, and I am sure I’ll love them even more if you rework them. I sure miss your fiction podcast. Are you bringing it back?
Me and my dad love this podcast
Really fascinating stories. I like the podcast length, and the delivery of the myths. By far my favorite parts are the side comments.
Hey Jason! I totally love your podcast. Keep up the sarcasm. It really makes the podcast a lot more fun.
Great story telling and funny to boot!🥰🥰🥰🥰
This podcast is phenomenal. I’ve always been a sucker for a good fairytale and love getting to hear stories about mythologies that I would normally never come across. Keep up the great work!!
This podcast surpasses all others. The story telling with a bit of comic relief and the origin stories of the myths and legends that you always wanted to know more about. I have listened to all at least 3 times each and will probably replay more! I hope more Fictional stories come out as well. Please don’t stop creating these adventures!
I’ve recommended this podcast to all my friends. I first heard your podcast while having breakfast at a cozy hostel in Nice, France; a member of the maintenance staff was cleaning while playing it and just the sound your voice hooked me to want to hear more. I’ve listened every week since then
This podcast tells the amazing stories of countries all around the world in a fresh and fun style. I get so excited when I see this podcast pop up on my list each week. Thank you Jason and Carissa for recreating these enthralling stories.
Podcast of the century amirite
Jason is an amazing storyteller and the stories are all very well picked. Hope to hear more Asian stories in the future! I've been an audience since very near the beginning and proud to pay for the ad-free version even though the ads are all pretty funny as well!
It’s my get away from life time! I love the stories, especially the Viking stories. Keep up the great work!
Super Podcast I listen to the same episodes over and over. I can’t get enough. And you definitely SHOULD redo all the oldies. I will listen to them again and again. You’re great at what you do. Thank you so much for all the entertainment you bring to all.
I have always been intrigued by myths and legends and have collected books of fairy tales when visiting various countries. This podcast is one of my favorite “in the car” companions. I love the variety, the humor, and the clarity with which the stories are told. I’d never road trip (or commute!) without it!
I don't remember when someone first recommended this podcast to me, but I know it was around October 2018 that I started listening. I began with the then most recent episode, which was 124 about Theseus. I liked it enough that I went back and listened to the entire podcast from the beginning. Today, nearly 8 monts later, I finally caught up with the present. I've averaged listening to about 1 episode every day. It's going to be weird now having to wait each week for new episodes, but I will gladly wait. This is a great podcast. I recognize that not everyone will love it (some people don't like snarky humor as much as I do), but I have enjoyed this so very much. I love stories and storytelling. Jason and Carissa have done an excellent job retelling amazing stories with just enough modern flair (and some snarky interjections) to keep them approachable. Yes, there were times Jason included more modern commentary/criticism of some stories than I would have voted for, but I respect how they do it. Jason always points out to us what is from the original and where their views have influenced the final telling. It makes this podcast a unique and fun experience. I look forward to hearing whatever stories come next, and maybe someday (way in the future I'm sure) being thanked for righting a review.
This podcast is the best ever because it is kinda funny and I like ones that have Zeus abducting women and cheating on his wife, Hera. I like ones with a bit of killing because ima Deadpool fan. Is there a one about sirens and harpy’s? I need one about just harpy’s or sirens. I like the one about the guy who killed his dad by accident and married his mom.
When my boys (then 12 and 10) and I were embarking upon a long cross country road trip, we decided to look for a podcast to pass the time. This was the one we chose as we are all captivated by mythology. Little did we know that we would find ourselves wanting to be in the car even more to listen. We love your dry sense of humor, and we laugh frequently as you take us into amazing stories and adventures. You are amazing, and we can’t wait each week for a new show to come out! We love “You mad?” and crack up when you talk about “stupid Hans!” Keep up the great work!! p.s. They wanted our handle to be “ my wife for finally subscribing” so that when you thanked us, you would say, “I’d like to thank my wife for finally subscribing!”
Jason has a gift for writing and storytelling. Every episode is highly entertaining and his style makes even ancient legends come alive. I regularly laugh out loud or gasp while listening, and I love learning about the stories of other times and cultures. If you’re going to listen to any podcasts regularly, make this one of them. I can’t recommend highly enough.
This is a wonderful podcast that combines great story telling, thorough research and intelligent writing. I absolutely love the way you guys study and explain various versions of myths and then present your audience as much information as possible while still telling entertaining tales. As a literature teacher I love this podcast even more! It helps me to discover hidden details about the many different stories I already know and teach. I would love to hear more detail about the legend of Melusine!
I love ur show
Just found this podcast. Freakin awesome!!!
I’ve been listening to you just about since you’ve started, I never miss an episode. Favorite podcast hands down.
You can really tell the team puts a lot of effort into each episode in both quality of content and production. The stories are presented in a entertaining manner, but still get the points of the story across. If you enjoy this one, their other show, Fictional, is just as good, be sure to check it out! Keep up the good work!
Keep up the good work
I found this podcast on Spotify originally when I was looking for something to listen to on a car ride. I really really REALLY love this podcast. It combines a great mix of all different cultures and their mythology, along with interesting creatures of the week and other stuff like that. As far as I can tell and what I have listened to there are no errors and nothing inappropriate or bad and I definitely recommend this podcast to anyone who enjoys mythology or stories or anything like that! I really hope that you enjoy this podcast as much as I do! Jason - you are an amazing storyteller! Keep up the good work!
I love this podcast! My favorite thing is the variety of cultures that we get to hear from. From Irish, to Finnish, to Persian... There are so many tales out there that need to be heard and there’s no better way to hear them all than this podcast. Download everything now!!
I love this podcast, the stories are told in an insightful, engaging and often humorous way. As a fan of mythology from a very young age I find myself learning new twists and different takes on the stories I’ve known and loved forever. Jason and Carissa Weiser do their due diligence to provide well researched and meticulously written podcasts every week. Also please bring back Fictional, another excellent podcast!
I absolutely love this podcast! I have always had a dear fondness for mythology and folklore and I love this podcast because it not only gives you great stories but also new insight on cultures from all over the world. Jason Weiser is a great story teller and it’s so nice to listen to these stories either at work or on your commute to and from work! 😊
I just started listening and feel cheated I didn’t know about this pod cast sooner. I started at season 1 and will be through them all I. A week or two! Love this pod cast and a good listen!!
I’ve always loved myths and legends and as an English teacher, read and discuss many in my classroom. I was glad to discover this podcast and binged it on a 500 mile drive. I love the writing and the storytelling so much, I downloaded it to listen to while I’m camping with no cell signal. The host does a tremendous job delivering great stories with just the right tinge of humor while staying true to the source material. It’s a definite must listen.
If you like mythology, you’ll love this. If you don’t like mythology, you’ll probably still love this. This somewhat humorous podcast is a perfect combination of education, personality, wit, and entertainment; communicating the myth, thoughts on the myths, and even a bit of context to said myth. Really, you must give this a chance, even if you don’t historically like mythology, the person behind it will still make it more than worth it.
Jason and Carissa Weiser both our a lot of effort into this podcast. All of the stories are well researched from multiple sources, are respectful of the culture and origin, and have a modern twist that makes it very fun and easy to listen to. This podcast is great for anyone who likes to listen to stories. I use these in my classroom when I want my kids to practice active listening and story telling skills. It helps them here a great example of how to paraphrase a story.
So I binge listened to the entire collection, great work guys! You literally are what keeps me moving at work lol (don’t tell em I said that🤫). I love the narrative progression as well, as you hone your skills I thank you for feeding my mind, keep up the good work!!
I was introduced to this podcast a year ago, and I haven’t stopped listening since. This a witty, interesting and insightful podcast. Anyone who hasn’t definitely should.
This podcast is simply fantastic. There's good pacing of the stories, great attention to detail, and I love how the narrator will sometimes pause and point out certain aspects of a story that don't make sense, as I find it helps to keep the story grounded and understandable.
Great podcast for myths and legendary stories. On the most recent podcast, the question was raised as to whether the author should retell prior myths/stories such as Aladdin, I think he absolutely should. I would definitely listen to any new episodes of the podcast, even if the title is one I’ve seen before. It’s simply a great idea; use the new knowledge you’ve acquired after researching the stories in depth, and talking about the stories with fellow listeners of the podcast ; to retell them in an enriching manner. This is the moment in time when I know I’ve subscribed to the right podcast for me.
Having recently spent time in Iceland I was enthralled by the podcast regarding the Vikings! I've come to find i enjoy all the podcast & love learning about the the background on some of the stories I thought I knew & hearing the stories I've never known. Lace the sarcasm through the stories & it's all very entertaining!
Thanks for telling myths and legends worthy of listening and ‘wasting’ time on😊
This show delivers with quality retellings of old myths while applying a gentle though thoughtful series of narrations. It’s fun and engaging; modern but not contrasting against its ancient source material.
It's wonderful!! Jason has a really soothing voice and the stories he tells are incredibly easy to listen to! I listen at work and it makes time fly! They're easy to follow and incredibly entertaining. I love that he puts in his "20th century" opinion. Definitely worth a listen!!!
This is honestly one of the best podcasts based on storytelling prowess. They have a very diverse range of myths with sentaro the millionaire from Japan, and Wendigo from America. If your looking for the best episodes on the podcast look for multi parters and start out with the volsungs ep. 3
The combination of the narration and the old legends creates a delightful podcast. The commentary helps to make the stories relatable to 21 century listeners.
My mom recommended this podcast for me and I love it because I have always loved true fairy tales and just fairy tales in general and it really makes the tales easier to understand I'm only 12 and I love this podcast I recommend this podcast to anyone who loves myths and legends thanks so much for making this podcast
Found this podcast one day at work and was instantly hooked on it!Love hearing about the stories I haven’t heard of before and I like the humor too. Really helps keep a mundane and dull work day more enjoyable!
Here’s how all myths should be taught in school! Clever writing, emotional and told with a bardic flair, this podcast is a fun and lighthearted way to familiarize yourself with legends and stories from all over.
All of the work put into this podcast shows; the stories are so easily digestible, and told by Jason, who has a voice you could listen to for hours; even when he breaks for ads, I rarely skip over because his voice is as much of an experience as the stories he retells. Plus, he’s always mentioning his wife and son, and it’s just sweet. The creature of the week at the end of each episode is always fun and interesting. If you were to redo old episodes, that would be amazing, though I would love to hear more Native American and Southeast Asian myths and legends as well. Thank you for all you do and keep up the great work!
I like to listen to this podcast when mowing the lawn, and it has taught me so much I didn’t know about mythology I thought I knew. It has also introduced me to new stories that I love.
I LOVE the Myths & Legends podcast! Jason & Carissa Weiser have struck gold in the world of classic story-telling. I love that I can enjoy stories I’ve heard before and those I’ve always wanted to in a way that doesn’t feel like sophomore English class. The storylines are engaging, the music well chosen, and the humor cleverly delivered. I’ve started listening to podcasts during my commute and during my workouts. I’m so glad to finally have found my listening niche in this podcast frenzy. Also, if you like this, check out Jason & Carissa’s other podcast Fictional (it’s pretty rad too).
I am in love with this show
Amazing job creating an engaging storytelling experience! Thanks for exploring the stories that shape our culture and craft our futures. From one English major to another, well done!
I have listened religiously since I found your podcast about two and half years ago. I didn't realize how much the show had improved until I went back to listen to some older shows. Keep up the great work.
Really fun to listen to his sarcastic humor. Ps it would be really fun to listen to redone old episodes.
Just what I’ve been looking for! I love the speaker’s voice and the stories are read really well. I just wish it didn’t take so long for each new podcast! Its awesome honestly. I hope he chooses to do more African stories! It’s nice to hear stories from back home. Also yess I’d love for you to redo some of your old episodes (Aladdin, mulan was etc.) Also when will you do more stories from 1001 nights??
This is a legendary podcast. I love how Jason incorporates modern humor into old stories. This easy-listening podcast catches me chuckling to myself more often than not. Keep up the great work!
This has been my favorite podcast on the whole internet for a few years now. I have found out about entire families of stories that I never knew existed and some of these stories have stuck with me so that I relisten like I would reread a great book. It is well produced (the jump in audio quality from the first episode to now is pretty spectacular) and well written. Thank you, Jason, for making the podcast I didn't know I needed.
Such a great storyteller! Every show is worth a listen!!
This is my favorite podcast to listen to. Aside from the fascinating insights into stories you think you know, the presentation and clever comparisons to modern day life draw you in and weave an intriguing tale each and every episode. Truly a fantastic show.
We are like the walking dead waiting for new episodes. Your growth is awe inspiring and I never tire of your telling, especially my favorites “Crocodile Tears”, the sleeping beauty stories, ALL the Greek stories, “Occupational Hazard” & The Jaiyah/ Vijaya (sorry for the certain misspelling) stories. You and your wife are amazing. Thanks for doing what you do!!! I’d love to hear one of your own created stories for the members!
I love this podcast! Jason has a great voice, and he does a fabulous job writing the stories. I love that the podcast groups stories together by number (episode 1a, 1b, etc) because it makes it really easy to listen to complete arcs. I can’t wait to make my way through the back episodes, and I am excited to see what else is coming (more King Arthur please!).
Not only is it full of interesting stories presented well too! Thank you for doing such a great job, keep it up!
I’ve been listening to this podcast for a few years now, but never got around to reviewing it. It’s fantastic. I often listen to old episodes when I’m having trouble getting to sleep- because the new episode always keep me up, thanks to Jason’s accessible, charming, and attention-grabbing storytelling style. He knows how to structure the stories in such a way that it feels almost conversational at times (like when he brings attention to how stupid or bigoted a character is being), and downright cinematic at others. I love this podcast, and if you have even a passing interest in myths, legends, or folklore, you MUST give this a listen. If you want more classic literature in your story choices, give Fictional a listen. Both are great podcasts executed extremely well. Way to go! Keep up the good work!
This is one of my favorite podcasts. I love stories about mythical heroes and villians and creatures, but many of the texts are hard to read and make it a chore. These stories are told in a narrative, but not dramatized. It's like listening to a story told in conversational ways. I listen to them on long bike rides (for training and exercise) and my bike trail goes through some wooded areas, so it's definitely a good environment for these stories. They make an hour spent exercising go by so quickly! Definitely worth a listen.
Seriously, the Japanese Folklore épisode about Crab-Dad and his son’s revenge on the nefarious monkey has been the best episode yet! Keep up the great work!
To begin with I have listened to every episode at least twice, some more than that. I’ve listened to these driving, running and working out, lounging around, and before bed; there truly is no time these are not good to listen to. Jason has the most soothing voice of any podcaster I have listened to, and he and Carissa do a fantastic job writing each and every episode. Mind you, my sister did think his voice was so soothing that she fell asleep every time she tried this podcast out, but that’s a her problem because she’s missing out on something amazing. I’ve recommended this podcast to everyone I meet who also listens to podcasts, and I really love the viking myths and legends, the Arthur legends, and especially the Irish legends. Jason does a great job of bringing forth these old stories and breathing new life into them. By the way, Jason, I’m not sure if you will read this but if you could do episodes (yes please plural because he’s the best hero of any set of legends) on Diarmuid I would really appreciate that. Keep up the great work, out of my twenty years on this earth, (yeah not much) this is the one thing I have truly wanted to review because of how amazing it is. -Fire God (nickname my friends bestowed me🤷🏼♂️)
I enjoy it, my kids enjoy it and my dog doesn’t seem to mind it! Lots of good stories to listen to.
Excellent story telling with a variety of sources and cultures represented. The occasional modern perspective is light hearted and welcome in the more troublesome topics and is a fun podcast for families and friends alike. 5/5!
I run long distance and often do training runs that last hours. These stories are great company and keep my brain awake and alert. Thanks.
I love the stories and legends I like how you put the music together to fit with what’s going even tho it’s a podcast I’m sometimes find myself on the edge of my seat. P.S. Thank you for tell me all these stories it really does help me feel smarter I hope you have a wonderful life
I am so happy I stumbled upon this. I’m barely on 6C, so I have a ways to go, but so far so good. His voice is nice. I have to mention this because I’ve listened to some podcasts where they have a whistle to their voice or it’s just... annoying. It’s soothing enough to fall asleep to. The style of story telling is fun. He puts his personality into it, and adds his thoughts here and there. It feels like a friend sitting down to tell you something, versus a stranger reading it off a script.
I love listening to this podcast. Narration is so on point.
I used to read mythological stories from all mythos when I was younger. I was fascinated with all of the ways people of the past dealt with everyday life and explained natural occurrences. This podcast tells the stories as they are, with a likable spin that keeps listeners interested through what would be the “boring” parts of the myths. I’m impressed with the breadth and depth of the stories and am ready for more!
I've been binging this podcast while at work for the past 3 days and I swear, I'm in love with it.Highly recommend it!
I just want to say thank you for making these podcasts. Every day on the bus to school, I listen to them. My personal favorites are the Greek and Roman mythology based ones. Thanks again!
I would never be able to do a road trip (or trip to the store) without Myths and Legends. I am a busy lady and I don’t have a lot of time to listen to podcasts. This is always the first one I listen to when it comes out and I never miss and episode. I recommend it to everyone I meet. I have tried a lot of different podcasts and this is my favorite. Everything about it is perfect. 10/10 Edit: I have been listening since this podcast came out and it has been my constant companion for years. I am finally pulling the trigger and moving over to the ad-free version. Frankly I don’t know why I waited this long! So long ads! Hello members only weekly bonus stories. The price is certainly right!
I love this podcasts. I’ve listened to almost all of them and look forward to new ones. The retelling of the tales are funny and interesting. It’s my favorite.
Jason and co. do an amazing job with this podcast in which they tell stories with a hilarious sarcastic tone and modern flair. My sister introduced it to me back in February and since I have binged every episode. I am absolutely hooked! I hoping for some Indian(Hindu) stories in some future episodes.
I love these podcasts so much, the stories are so interesting and I love them so much
I absolutely love everything about this podcast. I discovered it on Spotify when I moved cross-country and needed something to get me through the long drive. I was instantly obsessed- and this is the first podcast I’ve ever actively listened to. Myths & Legends is interesting, entertaining, and educational - I recommend for anyone who needs or wants their minds to stay active while performing daily tasks. I find every excuse to listen or recommend this podcast. I listened nonstop for literally 2 days as I drove from Texas to GA - my trip flew by because of this podcast! I’m so excited for new episodes and highly recommend.
Honestly this is my favourite podcast, I always look forward to Wednesday so that I can listen to the newest episode.
I really enjoy Jason’s take on the myths (and legends - haha) he tells. I especially appreciate that he actively seeks out folklore from many cultures rather than remaining Eurocentric. I could go on and on, but instead I’ll say this - stop reading reviews about this podcast and just go listen to one. If you have any interest in myths, legends, or folklore, you’ll be hooked, I promise.
I love myths and legends. I studied myths and epics in grad school; they are my favorite type of stories. With that said, Jason has such a fresh and delightful way of telling stories that is full of snark and perspective. Thank you for sharing these wonderful stories of old. I’ve even used this podcast with my students as a way to teach myths and storytelling.
I stumbled across this podcast by accident and am so glad I did! The pacing and modern touches to the stories keep the listener engaged and the little comedic inserts help break up sometimes serious scenarios. Keep it up, I look forward to listening each week!
This podcast is one of my favorites. Never gets old!
I could only listen to a partial episode. Trite, PC pablum that disrespects honest folklore.
I was hooked from the first episode. Thank you so much for your work!
