Have been a listener since ep 1. Great podcast. Arthur can be pretentious, but he has grown on me over time and tends to have good insight. Anthony is awesome but unfortunately may have munchausen by proxy for pets..
Been listening since they started back in 2009... grew up with them as an early 20 year old to now an early 30 year old. Looking at them now you’ll find very thoughtful discussion not only on electronics, music, games and the industry, but also introspection and what it means to be a voice and have a say. Either as a game dev, publisher, consumer, or as a journalist or podcaster. Hopefully you’ll get a lot out of your listening. And if you stick with them, I’m sure you’d find that you like the show even more.
Since day one listener here. Keep it up guys, love the show.
Been listening forever. It’s like old friends discussing their lives through a video game lens, not just a discussion of video games. And mad respect that they’ve never monetized. Such a shocking decision given the regularity and depth and effort over ten years. Bonus points for covering Xbox regularly in an era where most podcasts never do. I don’t even play the games they most discuss but don’t care. Just like the dialogue.
The gaming and tech talk is great. This is the reason I’ve always listened. I skip the majority of any podcasts during election time. I don’t listen to any podcast spouting there political views whether they lean left or right. I game and listen to gaming podcasts to escape from this crap. Also movies like Blazing Saddles, Short Circuit, Tropic Thunder and The Hangover have aged incredibly well. It would be five stars but you have to subtract one star for the politics,SJW antics and their love of saying “YAH”. I feel like I’m at a Canadian rodeo.
Just guys talking about their hobby and do it cause they want to, not cause theyre paid
Been listening for 10 years. Keep it up fellas
Listened to them for years. Listening feels like I’m hanging out with a group of my good buddies. <3
I'm sorry guys, I've said something negative about Arthur in my prior versions of this review. That was completely unfair of me. We are all wonderful individuals with our own lives and opinions. This podcast has wonderful people with varied viewpoints of games and entertainment. Anthony is so awesome for being so open over the years on Comedy Button and this podcast. You guys are all great. Anyone who plays games, enjoy!
For over a year it as consistently progressed less about gaming and more about politics. As of right now the content is 20 percent gaming 80 percent social justice warrior.
Wow 9 years! Thank you for sticking with it and continuing doing what you love - talk about video games and life's lessons.
Listening since the gfw days (rip in peace) but for the love of all things holy, please please PLEASE ring a bell every time anyone says "like". You will go deaf.
Keep up the great work
Been listening since the beginning and have enjoyed every episode
Casual and informed videogame chatter. Keep it coming!
I like the show a lot but Arthur’s perspective just sounds so negative just to be different from everyone else and if others don’t agree with him he seems to get offended and that rubs me the wrong way plus they do a lot of eating on the show which isn’t great — so besides Arthur’s “my opinion is different just cause” and the eating the show is sooo great
If you like listening to people talk about videogames then you need download this show. Ok, maybe you don't "need" to download it, but it's really entertaining. And to be honest, if you've made it this far it's probably redundant to ask if you like to listen to people talk about videogames. I mean, it's an audio podcast in the videogame category. It’s sooooo good.
Great chill gaming podcast, like hanging with friends and talking games. While they aren’t super formal they still do have some in-depth discussions that help inform me on what to play next and my greater awareness of the game industry. Occasionally they’ll do a deep dive on tech like; what the best 5.1 gaming headphones are, what TVs to buy, AMD vs Nvidia etc. I also love their taste in music for the breaks and outro, I’ve discovered several favorite bands over the years. — Original Review (Jan 10, 2009) — I was so sad about the 1UP network podcasters being laid-off; in my opinion it was the best thing 1UP had going for them. Knowing that the podcasts I love will live on in some form or another is all I needed to hear. With the 1UP podcasts gone Rebel FM is the new best video game podcast. Subscribe now! It's only going to get better as they get more recording equipment to improve the production.
I have been listening since the fall of 1UP thanks for all the hard work guys. Miss the game club but understand fully why it has been MIA
Very chill, but informed hosts Anthony, Matt, and Arthur have been a delight to listen to for 8 years. They aren’t afraid to be opinionated but also do their research on these games where I often hear an angle of critique I would never have thought of. If you go back to their end of year music specials or game clubs where they play a game together and review it this podcast really adds something entirely unique. Also, shoutout to recent caster James, and to Matt for always promoting a new RPG!
I have been listening to Rebel FM for a few years now. Each host has a differing opinions and also tend to question each other’s opposing opinion on what they do and do not like about current games. But make sure you brace yourself because there can be a lot of DOTA talk between two of the host.
Been listening since Episode 1 and I still look forward to it every week. One of the best vidja game podcasts around
I’ve been listen to this show since episode 1 when I was in high school and now I work for one of the big 3 video game publishes. If you listen to this show you too can work in games I guess. Great show and I listen to it every week. -Braden League
Arthur, Anthony, Matt and Brian always have great insight into every game they discuss. They’re funny and entertaining and do awesome things like extra life and the end of the year music spectacular episode which is always exceptional. Thank you all for such a great show.
Great podcast about videogames.
Rebel FM has been my favorite podcast for a long time now, largely in part due to how unique and different it feels from other podcasts out there. Whereas most podcasts run through the news, answer questions, and go about their highly formatted show, Rebel FM is relaxed. The only structure comes with them talking about what games they played each week, and this leaves them open to go SUPER in depth with what they talk about. And there couldn't be a better cast of people on the show. Everyone is incredibly informed about a large number of topics, to a point where it's often times surprising. There isn’t another cast of hosts as informed as the four guys that are usually on the show. More than anything (and any other podcast), their show is a discussion. Listen to Rebel FM if you want to hear people really talk about all aspects of the gaming industry, as well as movies, books, and television. I couldn't recommend them more.
This podcast continues to be my favorite video game podcast.
I have listened from the beginning and this is by far my favorite gaming podcast. While the regulars and their sometimes guests have all work in various positions in games journalism, the show is as much about a group of friends keeping up with their hobby together as it is an "enthusiast" show.
Sure is a podcast. Very podcast-like.
Still an amazing game podcast after all these years.
I look forward to Rebel FM every week,
If you want a Slice of Life awesome podast to listen to then check this one out. It's way better than NPR's video game show.
This is a great podcast for tech in general but mostly video games. The topics vary and there is something for everyone in it. The hosts are charming, funny, and honest. You are missing out if you don’t listen to this podcast.
My favorite to listen to on a Saturday morning. One of the last few great gaming podcasts.
Smart, topical, and insightful podcast about the video game industry.
I've been following this podcasts for about three years now and really value the balance of gaming, the gaming culture, technical details on hardware and software and just general conversations about being a good decent human in general. Highly recommended!
Love the podcast, appreciate the values and perspectives of the hosts. Would like for Arthur to talk about cats more.
Hey guys and welcome to my review of Rebel FM! This podcast has taught me so much about the industry and keeps me up to date on goings-on across all facets of video gaming. The personalities on the show are varied which makes listening a real pleasure. I truly look forward to each episode as a highlight of my week. Thanks for all you do!
Better than NPR.
Hey Everybody, this is a solid podcast even if the the host says the wrong number at the start of some episodes. Topics include video games, books, other podcasts and cats.
I love these guys and have listened for years. When they talk about games they tend to differ in opinion, which makes me feel like I'm getting a larger sum of well rounded information. They're good people talking causally about the latest news, trends and entertainment. The long episode lengths is good for car rides or listening at work.
Love this podcast
Great podcast with wonderful insight on the industry.
This week and every week, I look forward to listening to this crew. Their tastes in videogames are broad and cover many different aspects of console and PC gaming as well as mobile. They are the best!
Better than NPR!
Truly love this podcast. Been listening for many years and consistently enjoy the banter among the hosts. Arthur and Anthony have always expressed their opinions in a way that made sense to me and it's always great to hear their views in such a casual setting. Keep up the great work and here's to another 4 episodes!
Not the best gaming podcast by a long shot. Only bright spot is Anthony.
One of the chillest gaming podcasts around. Great mix of opinions, knowledge, and personalities.
The other hosts deserve 5 stars, but Arthur Gies talked over them so we get 2 stars. What kind of person can speak with such pomposity about working at Tower Records? Perhaps Gies is playing some sort of uber prank on the world. He is the spitting image of white privilege (he earns his living reviewing expensive video games) but spouts nothing but judgement on everyone (including his co-hosts) for not being as progressive as he. I suppose he garners sympathy for having the handicap of zero self awareness. The other hosts are great, btw. I can't imagine why they allow Arthur to talk down to them. For someone who claims to believe that all people deserve basic humanity, he certainly doesn't exhibit respect for his friends. The fact of the matter is that Arthur and I agree on most social issues, and I personally do not have a problem with him using his feelings on these issues as part of his filter for opinions. It is his manner, however, that seem to be evidence of a hypocrisy and a distance between what he claims to believe and the way he actually behaves.
Love Anthony & Matt Dislike Arthur Anthony is one of my favorite podcast hosts. Funny guy with a different angle for his opinions. Love Matt but I wish he wouldn't let Arthur talk over him. He comes at games as an experienced video producer. Arthur is really smart and I rarely disagree with his gaming opinions. He is a snob and correction junkie. He constantly cuts off others and talks down to his friends. It is so much better pre/post Mitch.
This use to be a very good podcast, but all it is now is a outlet for these guys to show the world how politically correct they are. The use of the word disgusting to describe everything that has to do with woman in video games is pathetic. It's not even just these guys it's everyone In games "journalism". Everyone is so scared to say something that may offend someone that now it's become a joke. Either it's woman dressed in skimpy outfits that bother these guys or guys who appear to be black in hoodies from the division. I'm sorry but this is the way the world is, pretending that most urban areas with gangs are not the majority of the time African American is silly. That's the way it is. To pretend that woman don't like to dress in clothes that show off their bodies is ridiculous. Men like to dress in clothes to highlight their physique. You guys need to grow up and stop preaching to everyone how disgusting the world of video game development is.
I followed Anthony from his 1up days, during the collapse of EGM and the early Game Club days. Back then, I followed everyone -- my podcast feed filled with Tina Sanhez, Shane Bettenhausen, and even Sharkey. But over time, as the 1up Alumni moved in different directions, Rebel FM stood strong. I miss Tyler and Phil and Ryan at times, but I love the current crowd and will continue listening for a long time to come.
This is the podcast I've listened to the longest aside from This American Life.
Hands down the greatest video game show that a person can pump into his or her ears.
Anthony is great as the host. Arthur seems to hate every game and probably life in general. Mike seems to only play Destiny and has zero input on anything else since he just talks about how he barely has time to play games. Fun. Overall it's okay, particularly if you are a PC/MOBA gamer.
Arthur seems so bored to even have gotten out of bed he brings down the whole enterprise. Always condescending to the listeners and his co-hosts , I only listen to his co-hosts and tune out Arthur but every smug interjection makes it a chore .
I love how Arthur picks on Mitch. Then Mitch just agrees with whatever Arthur says. So sad. Poor little Mitchy. Arthur is like his video game daddy. SO CUTE!
I last reviewed this podcast on Jan 20, 2009. I like this podcast enough to rate and review it on iTunes, even though I don't use iTunes. That's how much I like it.
Arthur Gies should run for office so we can all throw tomatoes at him.
Catching up on game news and everything in between, you can’t go wrong. Need more DOTA tho ;)
I used to love listening to this show, there were a lot of great people on, and some good discussions. Lately hower Arthur and Mitch constantly get information wrong. On top of that have a general negativity to anything they don't understand. It unfortunately leaves Anthony as the only one worth listening to, and it's just not worth it anymore.
But it does get kind of old hearing about how great DoTA is and how awful any MOBA that isn't DoTA is. We get it, you like DoTA. Other than that, highly enjoyable.
This podcast is all opinion and they don't bother getting their facts straight about games. Also kind of whiney.
Arthur is pretty much the reason I stopped listening to this podcast after a year. I couldn't do it anymore. His constant soapboxing and SJW'ing paired with his monotone delivery drained any enjoyment I once got from this podcast. If you can get past this it's usually a pretty good podcast
My first podcast coming out of the 1UPocalypse, Arthur Gies and Anthony Gaillegos anchor this show with long time cohost Mitch Dyer and Matt Chandronait. Though not quite professional in tone, the humor tends to run a bit more dry than some other game related podcasts, but in turn they do spend a lot attention diving into what there is to like or dislike about each game they discuss, and occasionally wax about major news or trends in the industry. Their letters section tends to be more loose fielding gaming related emails, but also responding to lovelorn teenagers who don't know how to talk to girls. Always a fun listen.
I've been listening to this podcast for years- I remember the secret scent,Tyler's departure, and Anthony's move to Seattle. Even after all those hours spent listening, I couldn't take the gradual focus change to social issues isn't of actual game quality. I love video games and will continue to follow the industry through other methods, but I hate that this podcast keeps pushing its social agenda while talking about games. Focusing on gender issues isn't why I'm here. The amount of times I've heard something is "gross" because of too much gore or how a woman is portrayed reminds me of the old argument that video games make people violent. It's a tired argument that reflects a personal opinion about an issue rather than the quality of the media. I can't listen to it anymore, but if you like to hear someone talk about social issues through the window of video games then you might like this.
An irrevent and entertaining gaming podcast that never takes itself too seriously except when DOTA is involved.
Started listening since the beginning and it was great. Over the years Arthur Gies has become a more vocal and opinionated spreading his extreme liberal views distort his views on games. His quips/liberal diatribes get harder to stomach with each passing week. The shows only saving graces are Anthony and Matt. Unsubscribing after listening for years
Want to hear a grown man sound persecuted with the task of "having soooo many games to review"? Me, neither. This guy has no idea what "real work" is. He lives in a crappy apartment in Oakland, with no car, and his best friend is a cat named Pee Pee. What a winner! You can hear his friends roll their eyes into the microphones when he speaks. Also want to hear political crap in your gaming podcast? Me, neither. This guys makes Barbara Streisand sound like a Fox News anchor. Also the Mitch Dyer spouts the most hyperbolic nonsense, "That is like the most amazing thing ever!", is said at an alarming rate. He also says, "yup" to everything everyone says. It used to be good but it has dropped off and is just nails on a chalkboard now.
These guys are great which is fun
A great podcast by a group of people very involved in the game industry. I never skip an episode.
So I have officially listened to about 100 of these podcasts and love everything they have to say. They give great reviews on games and follow up on reasons why. Keep up the great work!
“Every day on the road, there’s nothing good on the radio. What’s a gamer to do? Who should I turn to?” (The) Rebel FM – currently consisting of Anthony Gallegos, Arthur Gies, Matt Chandronait and Mitch Dyer – is one of the best gaming-related podcasts available. It’s entertaining and insightful with weekly discussions on the latest games and news in the industry (and more!). Personally, I do not understand the hate directed at Arthur. While I do not agree with his (or the other members’) opinions 100%, I can see where he is coming from and it is perfectly fine to disagree. The strong negative reactions to his opinions seem to stem from him having a different opinion or stance on a game. In short, people don’t like him because he doesn’t just repeat what they’re thinking over and over again. In addition to this, it’s perfectly acceptable to be critical of a medium while still being passionate about it. If you want to just listen to someone agreeing with you and simply voicing your exact enthusiasm for the games you love or bashing the games you hate… I’d suggest simply recording what you think and listening to yourself week after week instead.
I tried this out, but as is often the problem with a number of podcasters--these guys don't seem to remember they have a mic right under them. This last episode I listened was from like 8/3/2014 (I think), and I noticed this: Some guy burped into his mic. Disgusting. Then it was followed by I don't know how many minutes of heavy nose breathing while two other guys talked. I turned it off. In addition to that guy, we have the other "nerd" podcaster archetype who puts a forced pause in between each of his words as he talks about a new game. I -- don't -- know-- why -- they -- choose --to -- speak -- this -- way. But it's definitely something I'm noticing on video game podcasts. I expect some verbal skill in the podcasts I listen to. These guys have none. And they whine about everything. Stick with the Indoor Kids.
Very entertaining listening to this podcast. Anthony and Arthur are great hosts. The third and fourth guests are always on rotation.
Like just about every gaming podcast you have ever heard. Here's yet another group of jaded, hipster nerds, that hate everything that isn't an artistic, Indy title. Funny how so called "gamers" hate way more games, than they like.
Gets me through what would be very mind numbing work week otherwise. All of the guys share a great dynamic together. While I often find their reviews of a far stricter variety than my own on what makes a game good I do enjoy the interesting discussion. Amazing show.
First of all, Anthony is a good guy and if you do end up listening to RebelFM, he is the one bright spot. The other two guys, Matt and especially Arthur are just horrible video game "journalists". Matt can barely be considered someone who is in the know about the video game industry as he is primarily a video editing guy. His opinions usually just parrot what Arthur says and many of the things he says are just plain wrong. Arthur, though is the worst part of the podcast. If you want to feel talked down to all the time, by all means, listen to this podcast. He is a complete shill for any publisher who is even remotely likely to toss some pennies toward Polygon, the site he works for. He will always tell you that his opinion, often presented as fact (and nearly always wrong) is the right one and if you don't feel the same way, "you literally don't know what you are talking about". Oh yes, lastly if you are a fan of any systems other than the Xbox, or western games be prepared to hear about how the games on consoles you love are horrible.
Right. Ahahaha. Hehehehe. Nice. Niiiiice. Mmm, mmhmm. Nice. Ahuhuh. Mmmm. Riiiight. Hehehehehehe. Mhm. Right. Nice. Ahuhehehehe. Mmmmm.. NICE!
Great podcast…save Arthur. In between the incessant yawning he complains. Thats it. If you want to hear a monotone hipster yawn and complain about every game, dig in. The rest of the crew is great though!
Rebel FM has a lot of pros to it, but is unfortunately brought down greatly by a single weakness. You will often find Anthony and Mitch engaged in interesting analysis of gameplay and design that will help you determine what to play. At these times, the show really shines and brings something interesting. Unfortunately, the show is constantly weakened by co-host Arthur. His consistent role as the curmudgeon contrarian will often bring the show to a halt and a close to what was otherwise an interesting discussion. I am often reminded of a teenager who chastises anyone who likes any game that he personally does not. If you can turn a deaf ear to this one weakness, the remainder of the semi-permanant cast bring an interesting take on the big upcoming games as well as the hidden gems you might not otherwise know were out there.
Love these guys. Informative and opinionated views in gaming - can't go wrong with that.
This guy Arthur bullies his 3 toadies into agreeing with him on a whole variety of topics ranging from Xbox One apologisms and Sony PS4 criticisms to the lack of girl power in any and all forms of media. Biased, sanctimonious, grating, pretentious, and boring. If you're really into consoles, microsoft, bad music and have a high threshold for arrogance then kick back, crack open a 2 litre of Mountain Dew and enjoy. Everyone else should probably head over to Gamerswithjobs, idle thumbs, giantbomb, PC gamer, the Crate and Crowbar.. to name only but a few. Choosing at random any audio file available to download on the whole of the internet will most assuredly net you a superior experience.
Great podcast. Love the people on it. Love they interplay between them. The weird bootstrap feel of the audio is endearing. Host Arthur can get a little white-knighty or hardware elitist at times, but it's nothing you can't put up with.
I enjoyed this podcast for a good long time, but Tyler leaving, and Anthony moving away have irreperably destroyed the quality of discussion. There does not seem to be anyone left to challenge Arthur even when he is making patently false claims. This dynamic has been made worse by the addition of Mitch Dyer to the cast who basically acts like Arthur's hype man, following everything he says with a "yup, yup, yup." Don't download unless you like self righteous, deluded know it alls holding court.
Started looking for some new gaming podcasts to listen to now that the new gen is about to start, so I DL the playstation special podcast and boy is this podcast being paid by M$. All they talked about was how bad this ps4 game was and how bad this other ps4 game was, all I could list to was the first 30min, they didn't have a single positive thing to say about the ps4. First and last time I listen to this garbage fanboy podcast.
I want to start off by saying that I don't know many people that like to talk games, so when I listen to a podcast I like to imagine that I'm just listening to some friends BS about games, these guys make me feel like if I ran into them at the bar they wouldn't give me the time of day. I really used to like this podcast but lately it's been getting on my nerves. All these guys are so negative about every game that comes out that isn't some indie darling, especially Arthur who tries to sound so politically correct that he looks for stuff to complain about that isn't there. They all sound bored and come off like they're better than everyone. I'll be listening to people that enjoy podcasting, are passionate about games, and don't make me feel like I should be thankful that I get the privilege of listening to them.
I'm not a PC guy, but I still enjoy listening. Congrats on overlands btw
Well maybe tied with the recently kickstarted return of Retronauts? Rebel FM is a great podcast that's fun to listen to if you're an adult who wants to listen to an adult discussion of games without teenager politics and other shallow aspects of game enthusiasm. Keep up the great work guys :) By the way, it was really cool to hear Adam Sessler on a recent episode, too. Hope he comes back now and again!
Aurther Gies doesn't like Sony. This show is down hill. It is full of negativety. I am tired of it. I was a long time listener, not anymore. I highly recommend Weekend Confirmed, Beyond, Podcast Unlocked, and Games Radar over this.s
I listen to them all: giantbomb, weekend confirmed, ign, etc. Rebel FM is my favorite video game podcast. I enjoy the intelligent conversation, informed opinions and adult sense of humor. If you enjoy video games, you enjoy Rebel FM.
I’ve never heard such a conceited bunch of hosts I’m my life. My god how much is M$ paying these guys. Arthur needs to find a new career; absolutely shameful of Polygon to allow this guy on staff.
Arthur is just plain uppity.
If I was granted a year of life every time Arthur says "like" on a podcast. I'd be like virtually immortal. This podcast reeks without Anthony. New additions have not improved things.
Arthur is the worst person in the world. His boring voice and negative attitude will bring you down. It's a VIDEO GAME PODCAST!!! Video games are supposed to be fun!!! He hates every game and finds anything negative about them. Everyone else is great but he ruins the show and will make you have a bad/negative day if you listen. Anthony is great, listen to The Comedy Button instead!
Listened to this since the start (after the 1UP breakup), but this podcast has turned into a joke - the quality of the discussions has become mediocre, with either endless boring nitpicking (Matt's whiny tone is becoming so irritating) or circle jerk gushing to the point of spoiling the very thing they're trying to promote (they're too lazy to put proper "spoiler cast" at the end of the recordings). Arthur says that it took one year for the whole world to make him sick of Journey, well, he's done that for me with Gone Home in two weeks - congrats.
Rebel FM has the most informed and nuanced discussions of any video game podcast I've heard. It conveys the professionalism of its hosts without dipping too far into self-seriousness or cynicism about the industry. It doesn't offer a pure fan viewpoint, but the group's passion for games is never overwhelmed by the press/developer perspective. If you have even the slightest interest in the workings of the industry, it's the best video game podcast out there.
Most of the time I really enjoy the discourse and discussion of new releases on this show, but in the past few weeks it has become an absolute chore to listen to. 3 weeks ago someone was sick and snarffled in the microphone every few seconds for the ENTIRE SHOW. In the most recent episode, Arthur ordered indian food and the sound of him messily eating made me absolutely nauseous. All of this, compiled with the general negativity toward the majority of popular games for the sake of "discerning taste" has killed all the fun for me.
1. Genuinely well thought out opinions and arguments 2. Topics covered seem to be never boring, probably thanks to the cast's entertaining and cool personalities 3. A wide amount of stuff is covered, from indies, to hardware, to AAA blockbusters, to events going on in the industry. All in a real logical and entertaining standpoint. Can't get enough of this show, even after 2+ years of listening to these guys.
The best video game podcast out there hands down, been a fan for years. Thanks guys for all the great shows.
I've been listening since the very beginning a bit ashamed it has taken me this long to put together a review. This is one of my favorite podcasts to listen to. One of the best gaming podcasts out there!!!
this is the podcast that made me a regular podcast listener. i know this sounds a little weird, but after listening to these fine folks for a couple years, i truly feel like their friends of mine even tho we will prolly never meet. another great thing about this podcast is that they dont sugar coat their opionion on games. you always get the raw version which is the best version. thanks for the great podcast REBELS! Keep it up!
My absolute favorite podcast. A must download.
An hour or more of sometimes relevant game disscussion. My opinion's generally align with arthur's but hearing matt and anthony talk viewpoints is better than the alway in agreement bombcast.
There have been many a gaming related podcast in the past, heaps of them currently, and a deluge of more in the future. There is one reason Rebel FM has managed to rise to top of all the other podcasts, and that reason is personality. Anyone can read about games on a website, but it’s not everywhere where you can hear about them in-between goats yelling like men and Montessori school educations. This is the podcast I start my week off with because I know I will always get a laugh from.
Keep up the great work.
Listen for Anthony, he's all this cast really has going for it.
Arthur and Anthony are the perfect duo. Sometimes Arthur can come across as condescending, but its because he's so passionate. And who doesn't love Anthony
Great podcast keep it up!
One of the best video game podcasts out there. In my top 3 with bombcast and weekend confirmed.
I have been listening to Rebel FM off and on since its inception, but host Arthur G continues to push me away. I have never found another podcast with a voice more sad and insecure than Arthur's. The other hosts do their best (especially Matt) to seemingly ignore Arthur's snide remarks, the giant chip on his shoulder ultimately brings the rest of them down. Its a bummer, because Anthony Gallegos and Tyler Barber should be heard.
This pod is as good as it gets for info about recent PC game releases. The hosts have great chemistry, and the conversational aspects of the show reflect the same.
I was listening for a while, but Arthur just whines about EVERYTHING. If its not HIS opinion he will drone on about why everyone else is wrong. Eh...
It's OK, but they are bored and sound like it. I tried hard to make it all the way through cause I wanted a new podcast but the constant yawning and the wheezy nose breathing became too much, and I couldn't do it.
Simple enough, amazing. Been listening since day one and I hope it continues.
Listen immediately that's an order!!! Very original show
These guys put on a great show, understand and talk about gaming on a level that shows just how well informed the whole crew is. They talk plenty about big name titles but also love to get into 20 minute conversations about little indie titles. I get more interesting and original reccomendations from these guys than I do looking at any other site or podcast online. They're funny and have technical knowledge, and talk about things like menu UI. MENU UI! Only your reeeeeally nerdy close friends would ever talk about things like that. Check these guys out if you legitimately love games.
Rebel fm is great! the small audio testing bit at the end of the episode's are funny.
Was a long time fan even with aegies as a host Two stars cause Anthonys great. But Gies is such a bully who thinks he knows all. Listen to the end of latest episode.(160) Typical far left bs about a non issue with modern fps games of this gen. Do you think gies had an issue with every WWII fps last gen, were every enemy were white skin Germans. Every German during WWII wasn't a Nazi Alot of innocent Germans died during allis bombing runs. War is cruel but necessary so ungrateful men like Arthur can have a job writing about games.
This is a fantastic podcast. Anthony and Arthur are two guys whose opinions I truly respect, and the amount of love they have for the industry, the games, and the people who play them make this a must-listen for me.
The early episodes of Rebel FM are easily some of the greatest podcasting has to offer. The show was insightful and often laugh-out-loud funny until the hosts were overcome with white-guilt and the show turned to pretentious mewling to make its points. Unfortunately, you're now better off spending your time elsewhere to get gaming news.
Arthur Geis is possibly my favorite games reviewer and Anthony is the yin to his yang. But my favorite of all is Tyler who comes in talking about his crazy indie and PC games but is thoroughly insightful about a lot of why he plays and enjoys what he does. Matt is there too.
I love the fact that Arthur is so critical of a lot of things. It's takes confidence to say harsh things. He's also not afraid to totally disagree with the other hosts. I wouldn't listen if he wasn't on it. Matt annoys me. He fake laughs at almost every sentence the other guys say. Listen for it.
I enjoy listening to Anthony and Matt's perspectives on games, life, and the universe. Unfortunately, Arthur contributions seem to be limited to disparaging nearly every game and rebutting criticism of himself. I certainly won't begrudge anyone their defense, but his constant negativity about nearly everything finally turned me off. Perhaps I'll listen in again in the future.
Everyone else is not .
One of the top 3 best game podcasts out there hands down.
Ever since GFW Radio finished its run Rebel FM has been my go to podcast for information about video games and technology.
These women are sassy and savy. It's ladies night, oh what a night.
1st time rating. This podcast rules. There's a new one every Friday, and you can expect good quality feedback about current and upcoming games. These guys are cool to listen too and they have very well rounded opinions and substantial knowledge of the video game industry. Check em out!
This is an awesome podcast, hosts are extremely informed, and lead intelligent discussions. I love the varied opinions, and welcome their thoughts on PC and console gaming. Long running time isn't full of vamp/stretched out dialogue like some longer running shows.
...and start podcasting about games. yeah, it's a bummer you guys got fired, but podcasting again and again about what we already know is lame. get over it, sack up and get back to work. otherwise your wasting everyone's time. Fast forward a year later and this is one of the best video game podcasts out there. If you are interested in the industry, Anthony, Arthur, Tyler and Matt deliver a fascinating, informative and funny perspective.
Love the show. Nothing wrong with Arthur, people are allowed to dislike stuff, he just happens to dislike things that fanboys love.
Very informative, and the hosts show great/well thought out opinions (even Arthur). I like the focus on PC and Indie gaming as well, as it shows me a part of the industry I wouldn't see otherwise. Overall, great show.
...because of Arthur, contrary to all of the 1 star reviews here. Regardless of the dislike he generates among other listeners, he's a very intelligent man and an interesting person to listen to, and that goes for all of the others as well. Anthony, Matt, and Tyler also contribute to making this podcast worth listening to for reasons beyond just games. I'll keep listening until the day they inevitably jump the shark.
This podcast is great to listen to. Everyone has knowledgable opinions on whatever they are discussing and nobody acts like a douche. Arthur brings it down sometimes but i still enjoy listening.
Thanks for all the hours of podcasts. Listened since episode 1. Eff the Arthur haters, contrasting views bring variety to the conversation. Thanks to the whole rebel crew and guests for taking the time to record every week. Keep up the good work.
My top gaming podcast along with Giant Bomb.
Arthur is a smart condescending dick. And I love it...
I'm a huge fan of Anthony and his work so I thought I'd give it a listen. Everybody on the podcast is very knowledgable about what they're talking about, but having said that, after a few podcast Arthur drags the podcast down. I do love his knowledge of games but as I kept listening to episodes his negativity started to get annoying. Whenever he starts to talk I find myself skipping ahead or lowering the volume to deal with it. I stick around because of Anthony. Other than that it's a great podcast.
Love the podcast! But like most of you say like, like a lot. Maybe you should like stop like saying like so often as like a filler word. Just like an idea, so like take it or leave it. But like you guys would be like done podcasting like at least like 15 minutes if you know you like didn't say like so often. So you know (another filler phrase you like say a lot) like ya. But like I love you podcast so like just like an idea. Cheers.
i find it a bit sad that california will be destroyed in most 2012 scenerios. i hope that you are able to continue to upload podcasts on a close to weekly basis. Even after the coming apocolypse. Good luck to us all, and see you on the other side.
Great podcast. I have been listening to this one since it's humble beginnings. Love how it is still a group of knowledgable professionals that despite getting work in different places still get together and have a good time. Keep up all the great work.
Great Podcast thats off the beaten path. The discussions can be all over the place which give it a real feel of friends talking because they want to. great show, 10/10.
Super fun and insightful podcast. One of the few gaming podcast that actually go into why the game is good or bad. I'm sure there others but really the only one I listen to. Definite listen.
Very serious (sometimes) game discussion, insightful and fun to listen to.
Im way into gaming and listen to a wide variety of podcast ranging from giantbomb to rooster teeth. And these guys rule.
Can't find a show like this anywhere else. This show just exudes coolness. The hosts mellow voices and the cool indie music make me feel so hip. It's one of my favorite shows.
Pretentious and unlistenable trash delivered by a group of unlikeable and boring individuals. Much better gaming podcast out there, avoid this one at all cost.
Podcast is a nice open discussion about video games that you wont hear about on big name casts like IGN. The cast is chill and their sometimes off topic banter is very entertaining.
My favorite podcast to listen to during the long overnight shifts at kohl's They've been in my ears through some of the craziest times of my life good and bad in fact.... They're in my ears now hi anthony
I have always been a fan of the podcast. I have listened to Rebel on and off since the beginning. I listened to the most recent podcast and just heard them complain about their fans and listeners and actually tell one to F off. I have limited podcast time and Rebel has lost a fan. I am going to listen to other great video game podcasts where the hosts have the good sense not to insult people who make the mistake of admiring them.
These dudes are great, learned i have the exact video game tastes as Tyler so if he says its garbage I steer clear, Anthony and everyone else is great, sure Arthur is sometimes smug and negative and dismissive but I appreciate his attention to detail, I sometimes think he's Daniel Day-Lewis style method acting some A/V elitist cranky uncle character for a movie not yet in production. I LOVE that these guys talk about PC/indie/flash/iOS games and don't just spend all the time going on and on about the newest AAA title.
Love the podcast guys, just started listening a few months back and have burned threw the backlog and am all caught up. Keep up the awesome work, I look forward to the show every week!
Great podcast about video games!
One of my top favorites. A great cast that shares lots of info and tips. Don't miss an episode!
I love Anthony but Arthur is absolutely the most pretentious and negative person I have ever listened to. I do not believe he ever has anything positive to say and comes up with the absolute wierdest criticisms for great games. The rest of the cast I feel is very forgetable and non-interesting. Just a very bleh podcast to begin with and Arthur makes it not enjoyable in the least.
This is a great podcast! Anthony and the rest of the Rebels provide an interesting and detailed look into the games they play. The fact that they spend a couple weeks playing a game for Game Club is awesome. Great podcast for gamers. :)
These guys are awesome! Cover tons of gaming content and their individual personalities stir debate in game quality, which helps when evaluating a game. I look forward each week to its release
I cant say enough good things about this show. Great discussion that covers great new video games in detail unrivaled by any on the internet. Each member lets their personality shine on the show which keeps me coming back. I've never met the crew, but I feel like I've known them all my life. Good show good people!
This would be such a great podcast if Anthony wasn't on it. He is way too upbeat and positive.
I play a lot of games and listen to a lot of gaming podcasts but this one is on my "must download" list every week. Keep up the good work guys!
Simply put, the production values in ep 2 allow me to give this 5 stars - its content, honesty, and "thrill" are all back. I am excited to see where this goes and if they can make a living doing this. I fear economics will kill this off (or they will all splinter) but I am crossing my fingers. Thank you all - you make my workout ever so more enjoyable!
there's Aurther on here... yeah... would be a great show without him.
Rebel fm rules
This show would be bearable without Arthur, his constant negativity and desperate need to vocalize how much of a fanboy he is gets irritating.
They really tell you their opinions on the newest games they have been playing. Also BRAP BRAP BRAP!
I listen to many gaming podcasts per week. I always look forward to listening to Rebel FM every week more that the others. It's a treat. This podcast is really about disecting video games and venting what works as a game. These guys can really guide you to the games that you can safely drop $60 on. They don't always see eye to eye on certain games. In my opinion that makes for good podcasting. They aren't console or PC centric in their reviews. If the PC version is better, they will tell you this or vise versa. I also think they have the right number of people for the podcast. The podcasters aren't trying to shout over the next person for air time. This happens plenty of times on the Giant Bomdcast podcast that other gaming podcast. Anyways Rebel Fm keep on podcasting. I always have time to listen to you guys weekly.
I've been listening to you guys since the beginning and I've loved every minute of it!
been listening since the begining. there are points where they dont upload a podcast for a few weeks which can be annoying, but still its great. i understand its not easy doing this for free but keep it up.
Great gaming podcast
I listen to this, Weekend Confirmed, 8-4 Play, Retronauts, and The Mobcast. They provide all my gaming needs.
One if the most sincere and honest gaming shows in podcast history.
I shart whenever I listen to these guys! I'm not complaining, either.
Arthur and Anthony make the show awesome.
But where are the new episodes...
This podcast compared to other game podcasts is a bit more casual and laid back which is great. The show gives off vibes that will make any listener feel like they are part of the conversation. Not being directly associated to a major gaming press outlet is part of what makes the show so great(i suppose thats how it was started actually..). It doesn't feel like these guys are "on the clock" to record the podcast-- it's just friends talking about games. I appreciate the consistency of new episodes and all the good times provided within. A big thanks to Matt, Arthur, Anthony, and Tyler!
Always the first podcast I listen to every week. rebel.fm provides an excellent combination of humor, insight and intelligent discussion. Their letters section is also quite amusing.
Love these guys
Any podcast evolves and transforms. Rebel FM is no different. It started off as a way to keep themselves relevant, by talking about games. It's now a show about Anthony, Arthur, Tyler, and Matt talking about games. And these are smart men who are passionate about what they like and have allowed they're personalities to shine through; I'd say for the better. The tangental arguments are what make Rebel FM so different. Sometimes you get a strong opinion on something, you may or may not like (a lot of the one star reviews main complaints seem to be that the hosts don't say things the reviewer agrees with). Or another time you'll get a dick joke. I'd argue Rebel FM is the gaming podcast for the smart, hip gamer. (not hipster)
Great group of people and some amazing guests. It is a games focused podcast but other topics sneak in. I wouldn't ask them for relationship advice but it is fun to hear the results of others' foolhardy questions. Love it all really.
These people do not have interesting commentary about video games, while dragging their political views into almost every conversation. Their most recent episode completely went off subject as they spent 15 minutes discussing how a 19 year old should deal with his homosexuality. I finally unsubscribed after hearing for the 10,000th time about how I live in a flyover state. If I wanted to listen to a liberal politics talk radio show, there are significantly better options out there than listening to these losers.
it's true he's a grumpy Mcgrump grump.
Keep going strong.
But to get fans the only way to go is a more structured, theme oriented season Looking forward for the tv movie!
I've been listening since day one. Great job guys.
It's the number one podcast for many folks for several reasons. The hosts are very relatable and relaxed, each show feels like a conversation done with friends sitting out in the living room instead of in a basement studio with strict structure and talking points. The hosts relate interesting stories about gaming done in their personal and professional time. The personal gaming stories are far superior to the average podcast where a reviewer says,"Yeah, I played it. It's score is blah.0 and some technical glitches and design problems held it back." The stories you get from RebelFM are about the expierence of playing the game and the joy, or anger, or possible dissapointment they had with playing a game. Not many scores or bulletpoints here. The emails RebelFM recieve from young persons seeking all kinds of dating advice reflects greatly on the trust and established culture that has sprouted up around this great podcast. Thank You.
...does Arthur hate Matt?
RebelFM is by far my favorite podcast. Keep up the good work!
Been listening since the beginning when Arthur and Anthony were unemployed. It's been great listening to their journey through games journalism and following their ascension at IGN. Also, funny letters by readers are funny.
I love rebel fm I have been listening for half a year now and I look forward to every new episode
A listener since the very first episode (and even before that with GFW) this has been my favorite games podcast since the beginning. I love the differences in opinions between the hosts. They are very funny, down to earth, and really make you feel like you are just listening to a conversation between you and your friends. Also, very consistent podcasters even with their busy schedule which is amazing because my work week would be ruined without my rebel fm! Keep it up fellas!
Love the podcast! Only issue I sometimes run into is the volume levels can be off between the casters.
this podcast would be so much better if there was less complaining about the games they talk about. they should try to find as many positives as they do negatives, this show desperately needs help.
One of the best
I listen to about a dozen or so gaming podcasts. This is my favorite one next to giant bombcast and weekend confirmed. The only thing that annoys me is the talk about iPhone games for a half an hour. I have an iPhone and play games on it but I sure don't care about hearing about them all day. And it's mostly Matt's fault for that but besides that he's fine to me.
Best indie video game podcast out there.
I continue to like podcast.
Please, PLEASE remove Matt. He laughs at EVERYTHING, and it gets on my last nerve. He is also the only person that can talk about an IPhone game for 20 god dam**d minutes. Seriously, the worst podcaster I've ever heard. When I hear "Matt couldn't make it today" ect ect I breath I sigh of relief. Tired of him ruining a good show
Good stuff. My only complaint is that they too quiet, AND THEN TOO LOUD. Same problem with some other podcasts.
I listen to about two dozen gaming related podcasts, and Rebel FM is second only to Giant Bombcast. Hosts Anthony and Arthur are talented writers who understand how to analyze and discuss gaming in a mature but lighthearted setting.
This was once my favorite video game podcast. It's become unbearable. Can't listen to a single show without Arthur injecting his far left, fringe politics into it, which is amazing when you consider that this is a video game podcast. Now, with the more frequent guest appearances by the insufferable Scott Bromley, this podcast has become unlistenable. Even Tyler the Texafarian seems intelligent next to Scott, which is quite a feat.
Rebel FM does a great job talking about the industry and games journalism as well as the games. I like Arthur, he has standards and he's up front about it. Sometimes it's a little off topic, but then it's still entertaining.
If you want to listen to industry shills and wanna be shills this is the place
I really can't believe all this hate on Arthur. He's the main reason I tune in each week. I find him to be intelligent, expressive and insightful. Qualities that also extend to everyone else in the crew. Keep it up guys!!
Funbay futex. I like rye letter section alor
A good podcast
This podcast is awesome and arthur is hardcore
Heyllo Anthonny and Mr. Barbara. This podcast is great but how does I listen to video? I can't listen to video but I can see the podcast. Sank you.
I've listened sense the layoffs. This show is great. My only regret is that Anthony has to drag Arthur on to each show. The man is a constant downer. Maybe Arthur will loose interest in games when it becomes mainstream enough and he will take himself off the show. The easy answer is for me to stop listening, but then I wouldn't get to hear all the times when Arthur isn't talking. Those times are podcasting gold and it's the best show I hear. That's why I give the show one Gaberial Anwar and 4 out of 5 stars.
I've listened to RebelFM since the genesis and I still look forward to it every week among 5 podcasts I listen to about games. I especially liked hearing the Fallout New Vegas chat last week because I've been loving that game on PC. To all the "reviewers" here bashing Arthur or the host of any podcast: You should be happy you hear from any of these people on a regular basis at all. If you have a problem with a podcast, unsubscribe it and know that they never wanted you to listen anyway. Whining about a host of a podcast is probably the most pathetic thing I've seen in writing.
Look forward to this podcast each week. Arthur, don't buy the hate. You pretty funny and usually insightful. You guys never disappoint. Keep up the good work.
I still look forward to new episodes every week keep up the great work
Would love this show if Arthur's unbelievable dreariness didn't constantly pull it down. His ~XtReMe!!~ vocabulary is pretty embarrassing too. We get it dude, you can swear. And you can use loaded "look at me, i'm hardcore" words like "abortion" in place of, say, "disappointment." We all can do that too. We just don't because it's obnoxious and would make us unbearable as it makes you.
Dear Arthur, It seems as though your trying to make the podcast as terrible as possible. If so, "Mission Accomplished." You sir, are a Fucktard.
I can not stand arthur
Rebel FM in easily my favorite podcast I've ever listened to. All hosts and co-hosts are funny, and are very intelligent. Cant recommend this show enough!
Excellent podcast, entertaining and informative. Great balance.
Its great. 'Nuff said.
Many of the cast members are former 1 Up, they were the best there, and now they have free reign over their own stuff, great opinions, one of my top favorite podcasts.
Rebel FM is a decent podcast. The host seem to think they are bread and butter of video game podcasts but they try not to brag to much. Arthur si the most annoying host, he uses the same inflection all his smart-mouth comments. You'll hear what I'm alking about right away. Anthony always has a booger in his nose and breaths like he's in an iron lung, and Tyler should talk once in a while. Also the relationship questions are EXTREMELY stupid, I will qoute my wife "Who would take relationship advice from a bunch of nerds on a VIDEO GAME PODCAST? These guys sound like losers, there's no way they get a bunch of girls."
Great informative podcast. Love Anthony as host. Keep it up.
Rebel FM was at one time the best gaming podcast around, unfortunately the last couple of months it seems that more and more of the show has devolved into the cast whining about "having" to review bad and/or uninteresting games while being incredibly dismissive and derogatory towards the people that comment on said reviews. All four regulars have at times been guilty of this, but Arthur seems particularly obsessed. Frankly, I'd rather the time devoted to the "behind-the-scenes" aspect of the enthusiast press be directed more towards the actual games, or Rebel FM's infamous and brilliant relationship segments, etc. I'll still be listening, at least for the time being, in the hopes that what was once a must-listen can recapture the magic it once had.
One of the best gaming podcasts out there!
Rebel FM is the podcast that, while maybe lacking some of the "exclusive interviews" or "developer spotlights" that other podcasts feature, is the podcast that every games journalist probably wishes they were on. These 3 (well, pretty much 4 now that Matt's a constant staple) always manage to provide great entertainment and information just by talking about games they've been playing, with often hilarious results. I laugh more at this podcast than I do during any recent episode of The Simpsons (not saying much), but it also keeps me up to date on everything going on in the industry and what is/isn't worth playing. If you're a fan of gaming, phallic jokes, relationship advice letters, or farts (courtesy of Arthur), you owe it to yourself to listen to this podcast.
I have been listening to Rebel FM since ep 1, right after the 1up problems. This show is great, it has a good mix of good gaming information, along with random tangents. Also, the e mail segment is hilarious!
Is it Edward? Also show rocks. Been listening since the beginning.
Very good show, Anthony, Tyler, Matt are all funny. Sadly, I have to agree with some other reviews that Arthur comes off frequently as a contrarian "know it all." I'm sure he's a nice guy, he just steps all over conversations and has to interject to correct the most insignificant details from the other hosts. He often kills the show for me. I hate to say that, but it's the reason I'm downloading less frequently now.
This podcast has a great crew that really know about games and make the conversation a great pleasure to listen to. If you can only listen to one podcast a week, make it Rebel FM.
Original Review: Seriously. I listened and then I lol'd. Get it. Now. Update: Still listening, still loving it, thanks guys for the fantastic show.
Listen to it every week. Great while doing work at home
That Tyler and Anthony are what make Rebel FM awesome. Matt is ok, just maybe a little awkward, and the other guests are usually a treat. Then there's Arthur... Whose cynicism and negativity often put a damper on the rest of the cast. If Arthur can lighten up a bit, then Rebel FM can be a 5 star podcast.
If there is one thing a good podcast needs, it's a love quadrangle. The show also has a good format and the cast have interesting conversations.
It's a videogame podcast, so check your expectations at the door. That said, it's occasionally funny and often informative, which is all I require from a FREE podcast. Download, enjoy...try not to take it too seriously.
Tyler, Arthur, Anthony, and Matt. Three are funny, have good radio voices and interesting/introspective thoughts that are well-verbalized. However, just like on Sesame Street, the fourth is not like the others. Maybe we could switch out Matt for some new cover art?
I feel Tyler is the reason to listen, he often makes very well thought out observations. One more thing, why is Arthur always angry?
Arthur, Anthony and Tyler combine to make podcast magic. Then Matt chimes in and ruins everything.
..I know where to seek advice :)
It's no geekbox but still...
The three of them mesh well together and they are hilarious. Listen to their podcasts you will be pleasantly surprised
I love Arthur but only in a gay way
The show has lost it's sparkle and that's mostly due to Arthur Geis's domineering. His voice permeates 90 percent of the podcast and more often than not his musings are far less interesting than the other Rebel FMers.
The best part about Rebel FM is its unabashed honesty. With three great personalities at the helm, Rebel FM is a mix of informative opinions and hilarious banter, making it feel more like a coming together of friends than a forum for chest-pumping and egotripping(like other podcasts that will go unmentioned.
I love this podcast. It is a must listen to podcast. I look forward to it every week. 1up's lost is our gain. Thanks for the cool podcast.
This podcast was my favorite of the week but every week it's getting worse and worse. We get it, you are all old enough and cool enough to swear, but Arthur's language alone is not nessasary. Grow up a little and get back to the informative podcast you used to be.
Absolutely love the podcast for the most part. So why the 2 star review? Because every week in the letters section the hosts will read relationship letters. I'm sorry, I don't listen to a gaming podcast to listen to relationship letters. I've personally emailed them multiple times asking them if they could stick to gaming topics but from the way the way things are going it sounds like they're going to continue reading groan inducing relationship letters during the podcast. At the very least I asked them if they could do the show proper, then have a section at the end dedicated solely to relationship letters so those who don't want to listen can skip it. I think they ignored that suggestion since it would only highlight how asinine their relationship discussion is when there isn't gaming insights in between to help the section. Too bad as it seems now more than ever they're going in and almost purposely mixing gaming letters and relationship letters back to back which is unfortunate considering their insights into gaming topics are much more insightful than the average podcast. This used to be in my top 3 podcasts but I've unsubscribed recently in an attempt to "vote" with my subscription as that and writing this review is the only thing I can do at this point. I hope someday the nix the relationship letters or at the very least place them at the end of the show. Until then, so long Rebel FM.
Great podcast with really funny people and a awesome atmosphere. Just like listening to your friends talk about games for a hour each week.
It just gets better each episode :)
The show is great. Love the humor and occassional game talk. Keep up the good work.
A very relaxed and fun podcast. It is one of my favorites. now that bromely will be on it has made the show even better.
This podcast may be interesting for people who might be friends of the podcasters, but for the public at large, I'd say, "Skip it," There isn't much thoughtful analysis or opinion here.
It stinks that the show has been canceled....oh well, guess I'll go listen to a better podcast.
As a video game podcast, the content of Rebel FM is fairly good, but it is totally ruined by poor execution. My main complaint is the sound levels. The show starts off with a drunk frat boy screaming "Rebel FM" into your ears, but don't you dare adjust that volume, because 5 seconds later the podcast hosts will be on and they will be whispering. I have listened to this show for a while now, before giving up, hoping that they would fix this problem. I can only assume that when they are getting ready to record that they all encourage each other to mumble, whispering, and or not bother getting in front of a microphone. You will routinely not be able to hear at least one or two of the commentors present. If not being able to hear what they are saying doesn't bother you, then maybe you will also not be put off when they stop talking about video games to talk about their cats and noises outside they're apartment that listeners cannot actually hear... probably because of poor sound levels.
A truly great video gaming podcast.
Rebel FM is an excellent podcast, although lately I would say that it's been on a bit of a decline. I hope that they get it back to the quality of discussion they had in some of the earlier episodes. All in all Rebel FM is a good listen though.
Surprisingly enough Anthony and Arthur are tolerable on the IGN podcasts. I think it's because their self-indulgent peepee poopoo humor is reined in. And there is also less name dropping from the illustrious world of videogame bloggers. IGN isn't super 'mature' but at least the ban on swearing makes it listenable and keeps out the bad habit of using swears in the place of actual adjectives. On their own podcast these bloggers get infinitely more annoying. Especially fed by the infinite number of undeserving 5 star reviews they only got as goodwill from the 1up layoffs. Anthony is the most reasonable voice but his gross anecdotes mar this. Arthur is pompous but at least Anthony tends to put him in his place with logical arguments. Tyler just meanders with a bunch of non-statements. His hipsterism is annoying. The show isn't the worst out there. I honestly think it's worth 3 stars, but I just want to counteract all the 5 star spam from preteens who listen for the lame frat humor. Or those who gave an automatic 5 stars cause they liked 1up.
I have listen to every episode was about to quit listening because the whole fat [email protected]?:?? thing. Great thing I kept listening cause the show keeps getting better and the whole fat [email protected]?:?? is over.
I am NOT a fan of Microsoft or their systems. However I love the revel crew. I like third opinions on games, & they tend to be less bias with honest perspective on games. They do love xbox, & yet I like thier podcast, they're also quite humorous =]
Now that the Rebel FM crew has a year or so under their belts, they've really improved the podcast. While not in the top rung of video game podcasts, Rebel FM is certainly a viable choice once you've finished your must-listens for the week.
Can u make an all love help episode? That would be awesome!!
Rebel FM is one of the best gaming podcasts out there and the one I look forward to the most each week. Keep up the great work guys, we all apreciate it.
If you enjoy listening to people that live in the tiny island of videogame bloggertown where everyone owns every system and the xbox360 is the best of the bunch then you'll love this podcast
One of my favorites like Orange lounge radio!!!!
This podcast is rather well (I would put an exclamtion point here but than I'd look stupid)
Listen to them all but look forward to my rebelfm the most Sorry it took me 53 episodes to comment guys Relax Arthur
this show had the momentum to become great.it fell apart fairly quick
Gotta say though... It certaintly has filled the void left by the death of the greatest podcast known to man. this is a must! Great info, hilarious, and inciteful. Anthony has really come into his own, and the rest of the crew are great as well. Its free, but it would be worth paying for
Can you optimize you show file before you uplode to Itune because that Down load is A HUGE BEASTMACHINE!!!!
I listen to a great many podcasts and this is my favorite
Very well produced podcast with awesome chemistry amongst the hosts. I listen to a lot of gaming podcasts and this is the best one by far. Really enjoy there reviews and expertise on gaming. Awesome show and look forward to fridays!
These guys are great! I can't get enough!
Ok. So my title may be exaggerating a bit, but seriously this is one of my two favorite podcasts at the moment (Bombcast being the other). I must admit, there was a point when hearing Arthur speak almost made me quit the podcast altogether, but thankfully I got over that hump. He changed his behavior when a lot of people complained about him saying "SOB" so much. Now, I really appreciate the combination of off-topic banter, "humor," and good balanced conversation about the entire gaming industry the three regular host provide. And surprisingly Arthur has grown on me, and now I can't see RebelFM without him. Chuf earned his marks in GFW and he was the only reason why I started listening to RebelFM. And how can I forget Tyler. If his laugh doesn't make you at least smile then there is something wrong with you. After the Brodeo, and Idle Thumbs both stopped, there hasn't been a podcast, other than RebelFM, that comes close to having a cast with good chemistry AND that doesn't obsess with covering the "Console" side of the industry only. In other words, if you are a PC gamer, RebelFM is as close as we are going to get to an excellent podcast that doesn't ignore us. For evidence, look at the Half-Life series game club, and the currently running Freedom Force game club. Sure there are a few dull episodes every once in a while, but overall this is a very good podcast.
Pretty good podcast but sometimes gets hard to listen to. It's no Geekbox
for a guy that spends most of his time on campus it is nice to have something to listen to and I think yall are pretty funny. I listen to a few other podcasts and I think all of you are doing a good job at promotingthe video game industry. keep it up. ebob
Intelligent people, having intelligent conversations about video games. The focus on actually playing games and swapping views and opinions on them, rather than the industry as a whole makes it a welcome addition to my podcast library.
Rebel FM is the podcast that cares. They read a letter I sent in and needed despretly, they treat you like an adult and truly care.
Ugh I couldn't even make it through one podcast
Best video game podcast! These guys play all the guys I do andthet have a great opion on them all, they make my boring day at work fun. I wake up every morning to see if they posted a new episode. I have been listening since day one!
Though it can be at times completely inappropiate and stupid, it's mostly a good listen. The cast has a good amount of chemisty and the guests are often times ex-1up people (who are awesome). Arthur can sometimes get on the pretentious side when talking about games, but usually Tyler's layed back personality offsets it.
Fat Pen15. LOL
This is some good stuff. The three guys flow well together and have been doing this long enough, both in the press and as a podcast. Anthony seems to run the show and has some ants in his pants.
The funniest and most laidback videogame podcast. Very highly recommended.
Followed the guys over from the 1Up disaster. I'm real glad these guys are back. A great way to pass the time with interesting (and some what comedic) insights! That is if you can get past a few childish jokes.
This is simply the best podcast that discusses relationship advice and proper feline care. 5 stars!
Followed Anthony after the meltdown at 1up last year to here, after a few episodes it was better than before with 1up. This, co-op, and geekbox are my gaming staples. Keep on chuffin'!
No time to write a review, I've got rondezvous with woman.
I've had rendezvous with woman.
One of the single funniest things in existence, Rebel FM balances it's token humor with well thought out and articulated opnions on gaming and the gaming industry. An excellent podcast for anyone looking for entertainment and insightful opinions.
I love this podcast, and though at first I wasn't sure how I felt about Arthur, he has grown to be one of my favourite voices in the games "journalism" industry, both in sound and in what he ahs to say. Anthony and Tyler round it out with great humour, and just like with the GS Debriefings the brutal honesty you guys bring to the table in regards to your listeners is refreshing. Love it! LOVE IT!
Even if the crew of the podcast is mostly just Anthony, Arthur, and Tyler nowadays, i couldn't care less. This podcast is always filled with interesting conversations about games and even more interesting tangents about their lives. Yes of course i enjoy when they have a guest included, but the fact that the crew continues to do the podcast even with jobs now makes me happy. Don't worry about what others say THIS is the podcast, for your health!
After listening to episode 44 I realized I hadn't submitted a review. I must admit I stumbled upon this show by accident. I'm glad I did! This show is funny, witty, and also informative! I also like the game club. It's a second show about experiences playing older games like crimson skies.keep up the great work! Also I like the KITTY CAT cameos! TWO THUMBS UP AND 5 STARS!!!!
Where it not for its 3 main hosts and their ability to handle the usual topics (what-you're-playing, industry news, game releases) with enthusiasm, intelligence, humor and insight, this show would've quickly become another standard, forgotten gaming podcast. Very funny and informative. Highly recommended. Excellent theme song as well.
This podcast is amazing. These fine young lads have one of the best gaming podcasts on iTunes. They go off topic, so if that’s not your thang.... you might not like it. But former GFW (greatest podcast of all time) listeners will get a kick out of Rebel FM. Because one of the members of the Brodeo is one of hosts. So I'd say you should probably give this a podcast a go if your a gamer who doesn't get offended from profanity or who not is a winey biach. Excellent work!
So I'm playing through Assassin's Creed 2 and I accept a mission to steal ribbons from the ladies around town. "Well, this shouldn't be an excessively bloody mission, could be interesting," I thought to myself. I run toward a group of the girls I'm supposed to steal the ribbons from but, for some reason, forget to hold 'x' (ps3 version) to steal. To my horror, instead of stealing from the two ladies on either side of me... (wait for it) two wrist-blades jet out of each sleeve and I proceed to thrust them through both girls' faces at the same time. The moment my character did this, I said aloud "OH MY F****** GOD, did that seriously just happen?!" I immediately paused the game in terror and disgust. "I'm no better than Jack the Ripper," I thought as I unpaused the game. Then I began laughing hysterically as the bodies standing on either side of me fell to the ground with a thud. I proceeded to steal "more ribbons than any other man at the festival," and good times were had by all... well, all except the two I murdered. Great show guys, keep it up... long and dirty (referring to show length and explicit tags)
If you like random non sequitars than you've come to the right place. Rebel FM strattles a weird line, not quite as funny the Bombcast, not as thought provoking as Out of the Game, but does a decent job of both.
These guys are great. They are very entertaining and often get into deep, but enjoyable, discussions. Totally worth checking out if you are looking for a good 1+ hour podcast about games and gaming culture.
The intelligent and witty gents of RFM provide an interesting and distinct take on gaming of all sorts. They also regale us with tales from their personal life which makes the podcast feel as if one is hanging with good friends as opposed to listening to gaming pundits drone on about their own self importance. Chuff, Dirty Tea, and young Art D-O -double G, thanks for the cast.
but now very boring. all of the interesting personalities have left. and Arthur is a terrible co-host.
I've been a big fan of Rebel FM since the show began. The casual banter of the guys makes you feel like you are sitting around with a group of old friends. I am finally giving this show an iTunes review because I thoroughly enjoyed Episode 38 and would like to recommend it to everyone. This episode contains great interviews with patients and parents at the Children's Miracle Network Hospital in Houston. It's really interesting and will tug on your heartstrings. NOT a pledge drive. To Rebel FM crew: Thanks for your general efforts and especially for show 38. ~Alex
Anthony is awesome, even though he is just Shawn Elliot lite. But it's great to see a coconut representing. Arthur is a buzzkill but it's cool to see someone repping for the gay community. and Tyler is cool.
Best video game podcast there is.
Rebel FM is no longer the continuation of 1UP FM. Nick Suttner has long since moved on. He was basically the only reason to listen to the podcast in the first place. The show is continually being driven into the ground by Anthony, Arthur and Tyler. Arthur talks a lot about 'dick-sucking' as a sort of compliment (nobody knows what you mean by this, Arthur -- so you should probably just stop saying it?) and Anthony really has nothing to say that isn't just his attempt at playing the part of his man-crush, Shawn Elliott. Every episode is basically two hours of rambling, spliced with clips of Arthur's nu-metal / emo collection of music. If you enjoy listening to a sex-deprived Star Wars nerd talk about his self-sexing habits, with his group of socially-awkward friends, then this is the podcast for you. If you came here for deep discussions about games, you're in the wrong place. This show is awful, except for when Ryan O'Donnell guest stars and lies through his teeth about Valve games. That's always fun.
These guys make great podcasts. They're long enough to keep going for a while, and definitely entertaining enough to fill that time and more. I use all other podcasts as fillers until I can download the next episode of Rebel RM. Keep it up, guys.
This podcast is what is left over from the 1up FM podcast. its very good and entertaining to listen too. its mostly about games, but they take listener questions that sometimes go of topic of games, and the host do a good job of offering up ther opionions/
This is one of the funniest and engaging gaming podcasts I've ever heard. The hosts work very well together, and the discussions each week are appealing to a wide range of the gaming community. If you don't mind the occasional (or sometimes more than occasional) profanity and low brow humor, this is definitely one to check out.
My favorite podcast by far, always entertaining never a dull moment.
Rebel FM brings a new charm to the table. With a very funny man; Anthony Gallegos. The most like-able noobie; Tyler Barber. And the cocky and quite douchy; Arthur Gies. Its a great mix with differant perspectives and hilarious podcast.
Enjoy the show. The guys are pretty informative when discussing videogames. Wouldn't take a bit of their advice on dating. Wish Arthur would the Aaron Greenberg route to defend Microsoft instead of the Major Nelson approach. Death to political correctness.
RebelFM is easily one of the funniest, most entertaining video game podcasts.
The great chemistry of the hosts combined with the unique brand of humor blends together to create a truly great and entirtaining podcast expirence.
Has taken the place of Listen Up (1Up Yours) as my number one video game podcast.
The first couple episodes I listened to were great. There was plenty of insightful commentary and I even enjoyed the off-color humor. I especially enjoyed the Game Club episodes. (Any chance of a separate feed for those?) But recently, every show is dominated by political and social issues instead of about video games. The condescending tone they take when trying to educate their unenlightened listeners is a real turn off. If they just stuck to the games, I would have given it 4 stars.
Needs more balls
Anthony, Arthur and Tyler keep the rebel tradition alive with Rebel FM! They're great to hear from, whether they're "wrong" or "right", and constantly deliver. Though they do have the occasional "lull" episodes that seem to be off beat from their groove, more often then not they come back strong the next time. Give your piece of high priced Apple luxury a treat and subscribe to these guys!
My favorite podcast at the moment. Only thing that bothers me is that Anthony, Tyler, and Arthur all seem to want to hate on PS3 (Arthur mostly). Speaking of Arthur, he's seems like a very bright guy (12th episode: racism in gaming), but seems a bit egotistical sometimes. For example, before E3 he said something like ' we're all a bunch of introverted geeks 'when referring to a question about a guy trying to network with people in the industry at e3. Arthur will end up writing for some website soon(gamespy I'm guessing because of what Ryan said on the debriefs when Arthur glared at him), but when Arthur said that I just was like "who do you think you are?" Don't get me wrong, I like Arthur and hope he stays on the show. Lastly, bring back the beat Tyler! Also more special guests like Jeff Green.
I was saddened when much of the original crew of the 1up show had parted ways. When I heard that many of the guys were going to be in this podcast, I was excited for them. The podcast was initially very entertaining but it recently has gone downhill. As a female listener to many videogame podcasts, I'm pretty cool with the comments, conversations and language the male gamers/speakers use--I even laugh with them. I don't have any issues at all with the other major videogame podcasts at all. But when the topic trend in their podcasts is about male bodyparts (and not really related to any humor at all)--I get turned off. Not to mention, the podcast has started sounding monotonous and like the speakers are bored. C'mon guys - where's the humor, games and the chemistry that you guys used to have??? Until it comes back, this podcast stays in my "unsubscribe" category.
Used to be good, in fact I liked it a lot at first, now it's fallen apart. Some people left, and the show lost all it's structure and it has devolved into in just an hour or so of off-topic rambling and off-color jokes.
Rebel fm is one of the best gaming podasts around, I've been listening for a couple of months and I have yet to have a moment where I feel bored listening probably due to the great hosts and their commentary. Just listen to the podcast.
Danimel M, what the heck are you blabering about, they do not sound like they think they are too cool to do this, do you even listen to the podcast? (( Ok maybe Arthur does sometimes but it just comes across that way and isn't really the way it is)) Anyway this podcast is great and everyone should listen to it.
Easily one of my favorite video game podcasts. Keep up the great work.
I subscribed to this podcast early on. It's my top listened to podcast on my iphone now. Chuff and the gang are awesome. Some folks may hate but I'll be a listener as long as they're doing a podcasat.
This is the one podcast I eagerly look forward to every week. It's both informative and insanely funny. Check out this podcast if you haven't yet, it's well worth the time!
Great chemistry between the show hosts with very intelligent video game conversations (Fat [email protected]). Truly one of a kind I looked forward every week to the podcast. I think it keeps getting better. I hope this review makes you guys smile.
I have to say that Rebel FM is one of my favorite podcasts. A week without a new Rebel FM is a week I dont want to see, unless its because these guys are get the best job in the world. These guys maybe profane but they are profound as well. If you dont know what those two words are look them up in a dictionary. Needless to say I listen to Rebel FM within the day a new episode's released.
The best podcast ever? No, but it's still pretty great.
Episode is so lame. It has so many BEEPS if you can't talk about it don't mention it. Still love the show and I'm missing John.
Awesome podcast. Good mix of gaming information, off topicness, and generally "nerdy" conversation. Tyler is a great addition to the cast and I also like the guest spots, especially when filled by Matt from Area5.tv/. Game club is a nice addition and throws a curve ball into just talking about current news. Keep up the good work guys.
