This is just one of many gaming podcasts that chose to inject thier political views into a gaming-centric show. I listen to a lot of podcasts, and do so in part to get away from modern toxic political discourse. If you are a liberal, you'll probably love it. However, if you are an objective independent thinker, save yourself some time and pass on this agenda driven show.
Used to really enjoy the show, but it has gone so far downhill. I am done. The unintelligent political babbling is just gross. People that have barely been out of their home state talking about international news. Here is an idea: Someday actually travel to Egypt and then you may have a informed opinion and understanding.
One of the worst things a podcaster can do is come up with something that only they find hilarious and then continue to drive it into the ground.
I love getting my all-things-geek fix in one podcast. These boys will give you their thoughts and experiences and do it in an in depth discussion. it’s like a chill conversation at a comic shop vibe. all around fun show with guys you know are kind and compassionate humans and always try to be thoughtful of what they express.
The show used to be great. Unfortunately, it has gone downhill due to Ryan Scott's insistance on shoehorning whiny political comments into every conversation.
Been listening since the beginning. Rock on you two. Much love.
After years of loyal listening Ryan Scott has finally made me stop
Ryan Scott wears a wizard cap when it comes to all things gaming (especially classic games)....but I’m afraid he glues on a dunce cap when it comes to political commentary.
Party on Ryan
Here for geek news and talk. Not for to hear your sideways political viewpoints. Moving on....
Love everything about the show especially your talk of the switch here recently. Thanks to you guys and a few other podcasts I plan on purchasing one soon. P.s haven't bought a system since the Xbox360 and got rid of that P.C and Nintendo consoles from here on out!!
If you’ve never listened to a episode of The Geekbox, I highly recommend giving it a shot. Ryan Scott hosts this podcast and brings incredible insight on retro gaming as well as a great perspective on the direction of the gaming industry. His opinions of the direction the industry is moving a valued and while I don’t agree with him 100% of the time, I really enjoy his take. The other guests also have varying backgrounds in gaming (mostly in press) and bring a good contrasting presence. Some of them don’t have a lot of time to keep up with current games as much as they’d like, but they do bring their perspectives and personalities each week. One thing I’d like them to improve on his just the structure of how each episode is presented. That being said, they do keep a good list of current releases and events on their topic list. I really enjoy Ryan’s podcast and hope it runs for a long time. Keep up the good work!
Terrible sound quality from some of the guys speaking, they constantly argue about everything and it's just overall a lame podcast. Didn't really interest me much.
WHEN YOU ARE A SPY, MAKE ONE OF THE BEST PODCASTS EVER. THANK YOU RYDOG
Y'all rock. Keep it going, more of you mofos need to rate and get this podcast up in the ratings my friends 👿
I have to say I started listening to this because of Ryan Scott, but after listening to 400 I realized it was because of the larger 1up family. The show isn't bad, but Greg did add a lot...so did Karen. Get Anthony on the show... you all need a revamp.
It's a decent enough podcast, my only "personal" issue with the show is Ryan Higgins. He seems to be painfully wrong about something in every single episode of this show and worst he's confident in his inaccuracies. I'm sure he's very nice in real life but I'll admit he's the one reason I'm not a consistent listener anymore. Every single episode I'm saying "No Higgins... wrong"
I'm glad there is at least one person that is relatable in this podcast, that isn't afraid of saying he enjoys ecchi anime art style games. Aside from that, wonderful podcast with hosts with broad personalities, even if one of its members just might be a robot.
I last reviewed this podcast on Apr 19, 2011. I like this podcast enough to rate and review it on iTunes, even though I don't use iTunes. That's how much I like it.
It's my favorite podcast. It's really just something about their dynamic as a group, and the fact that they all work from different sides of nerd culture. One owns a comic book store, three are or were editors of different large game websites, one works at a video game company. I just really enjoy it and look forward to it every week.
Has this turned into the SJW hour? The last two weeks with this stuff now, I know my comments going to lump me into some generalized group of hateful people, which I'm not, but I don't listen to this show for your politics.
ryan scott is a g 5 stars!
The show is consistently fun to listen to with great cast dynamic and a broad range of topics. The main attraction is whether Ryan Scott, Higgins, or Fitch will have the most hilariously wrong opinion of the week. Happy that Alice Liang is back on the show since it has been way too long without a woman as regular member of the cast. Fans of the Comedy Button should listen to find out what Ryan's speaking voice actually sounds like. My only complaint is that lately the game talk has focused exclusively on the 3DS, and maybe the cast should try some broader game experiences to talk about on the show.
I love this podcast. But Ryan Fitch - please edit.
Rolling into an ad literally in the middle of a sentence or conversation is absurdly disjointing. Dealing with Fitch's rambling derailments is one thing but the ads are just too much. There are other podcasts to listen to.
Love this podcast. Every week I laugh out loud. Great cast of people with great interactions with each other. Could be my favorite podcast.
These are the dorkiest people on the internet, and listening to them talk is amazing.
Been listening for the past year, good format and back and forth. Worth the listen
My drive home Wednesdays nights is much improved thanks to The Geekbox. I've been listening to it for over 2 years now and out of the many podcasts I listen to regularly it's among my favorites.
Interesting hosts cover topics in a personable down to earth way.
I hung in as long as I could, but listening to Adam Fitch talk is like listening to nails on a chalkboard and silverware on china at the same time. If you want to hear a good geek podcast, only download episodes of the Geekbox he's not on...those are usually great.
I see a lot of reviewers are knocking this show for being so random with it's topics and talking points, but I can appreciate these sort of ramblings. In a way, it's introspective of the way my own geeky mind works- all random bits and pieces of useless information. Anyone who understands where I'm coming from should check out the podcast I cohost, Dudes in a Room, on iTunes.
These guys have obvious passion, and really can go in-depth on topics. However, spoilers for various things fly fast and furious at times with little regard.
The comic store guy is an idiot though. Don't waste your time, comedy button is much better.
Higgins is always wrong and angrily defends his opinions. Fitch has ummm a th..thing that he um wait what he he he has prob prob troubles talking about things and he gets lo los umm lost I guess I'm saying that he s.s.s.s.stutters and can barely put a coherent sentence together.
A podcast where geek culture hates on geek culture and makes broad generalizations without the need to justify its claims, hosted by stereotypes. Also, spoils the plot of everything with no warning, just a sarcarstic "Oh, spoilers" as an apology. There are better podcasts.
if listening to Adam Fitch ask a dozen, unimportant questions about correct pronunciations of foreign words/names while forever having mini strokes is your idea of fun, then look no further. this idiot can never remember anything, and stutters out more "er"s, "um"s, and "whatshisname?" in one sentence than real words. there never was a podcast that drove me to such violence.
I love this podcast and I appriciate the countless hours of time these guys and gals have helped be pass. So yeah! keep doing yo thang
This podcast is great.
I listen to around 10 podcasts each week and never look forward to a new episode of the Geekbox. Yet I cant explain why I listen. I enjoy Andrew's weird banters and whatever female guest is on but Ryan Scott's just a downer. Really felt terrible about Karen Chu leaving she was always a welcome guest. I hope Olivia Jane becomes a regular.
Where in they discuss. Personal issues, jokes only relevant to them and sometimes game reviews all through a mouth full of food, drink and phlegm. There are video game podcasts that dive in and teach things and then there are ones like this that just coast on the surface. Nothing of substance here.
Serviceable podcast that can have interesting opinions on assorted media topics but is ultimately brought down by the generally incoherent stuttering/stammering of one of the hosts (Adam Fitch) accompanied by tantrums and condescending tones of said host. If you can manage to drown him out, there is potential here.
Love the show. Keep up the great work.
I work at a foundry 10 hour days 6 days a week I happen to stumble on this podcast just trying to listen to something to keep my awake while I work. I dont always agree with some of the movie reviews (but everyone is entitled to there opinion ) and I'm not mutch of an RPG gamer or even much of a gamer at all but I love listening to the banter between everybody on the show. I've gone back to the first episodes of the show that are available and love all them that I've heard! Keep up the good work ! Thanks for making my work days go by much faster!
I dont know many people who enjoy others eating in their ears..but these guys seem to not know how rude and annoying it is.its too bad ..cuz its a good entertaining podcast.Well guys it was fun ..but im out..good luck
Nothing can be insane ramblings and weird conspiracy theories of the Geek Box crew. It's always worth a listen, but you never know what you'll get.
I've been listening to The Geekbox for a few months now and it's just boring me out. Some conversations are great to listen to but most of the time it's just random banter. After listening to a few minutes of this week's (5/8/13) episode I turned it off and unsubscribed because hearing people chew food/gum or whatever that noise is in the background (and it happens every week) pushed me over the edge.
I don't know how people enjoy this podcast. Nobody is funny and they put me to sleep. The host has a fat kid voice and is so opinionated about everything that I could throw up. They all like lame Japany games and hate on good video games. They should do some research on new console information and game release dates rather than speaking their negative minds on classics. Some info is good but that kid makes listening to this way too depressing for me.
I like this show, but the host Ryan Scott has one of the most annoying voices I've ever heard. He sounds like someone punched him in the throat and I don't think he knows how to properly speak in front of a mic. At times it sounds like his mouth is right on the mic. Dude, step a few inches away from the mic! Everyone thing else is fine, & I like to listen every week. Oh, and the other Ryan can be really douchie and I think he's dating the host. I'm not sure, but they sure do sound like a couple.
I generally enjoy the Geekbox, not so much for the intellectual insight or in depth coverage of anything -- there are specific podcasts outhere for that -- but more for the casual conversations about things I'm interested in. Its easy to throw on Geekbox while I'm playing WoW, browsing the web or driving somewhere. I dont sync on everything they talk about (Dr. Who) but I'm sure thats true for everyone. Give it a listen, chill out, and accept it for what it is.
I love the eatbox! Eatbox+Rebel FM fills the empty hole in my heart left after the abondonment of Ziff Davis! When you see John Davison tell his limey butt to get a podcast going again. Side note: make link for CC podcast on here plz. I love Ryan scott ryan!
If your into gaming, comics, movies, or television, you couldn't ask for a better podcast. The Geekbox brings the feeling of sitting around and BSing with your friends about each others mutual hobbies right to your eardrums. However, I found that the most epic thing about this podcast is the host Ryan Scott. "What makes him so epic", you ask? After listening to the show, one day, I decided to search for images of the cast to put faces to the voices. Natually, I started with Ryan Scott. Low and behold, I discovered that, not only does this man have the pure radio talent of Wolfman Jack, but apparently he is also a well built brick house of a man that enjoys having pictures taken of himself wearing only a jockstrap.
Instead of writing an e-mail, I have decided to write a review. A few months ago, I recieved a bit of personal advice from Karen. At the time, the advice was rather hard to believe. But now, I am come face to face with how true her words are. Every day that I step out from my home, the truth of what she said is there. Almost as if it is waiting for me. Karen, thank you for your words and your wisdom. For you many who have not heard this truth, I will share it with you now: In China, you will definitely getting a lot more action than you ever did in the States. 5 stars for the podcast 1 star for Ryan
In 2009, a crack podcast unit was sent to unemployment by a media giant for a job they did too well. These men and women promptly escaped from a life of monotony and poverty to the Sunnyvale underground. Today, still wanted by the podcast nation, they survive as soldiers of geekdom. If you have a problem, if you missed Burn Notice or Doctor Who, and if you can find their URL....maybe you can download The Geekbox!
This podcast is awesome unless Alice is on because she interrupts and talks over the other people until she has spotlight then her speech slows down while she tries to put a sentence together. Truly awful. Otherwise 5 stars, all the time.
The geekbox crew does it again, with agent Ryan "British accent" Scott going gaga over his on again, off again love interest, April "I want an iPhone" Scott. The stage is set when rival Ryan "I hate Limbo" Higgins engages in a deadly series of tete-a-tete exchanges with the lovely Karen "I only play a Taiwanese on TV" Chu. The overarching comical conspiracy plot-line also makes a return in this weeks episode with the appearance of Justin "Domo arigato mr roboto" Haywold, although the rumor is that he is joining forces with the mighty Karen. Where does that leave his apprentice, Alice "Plague bringer" Liang? Find out on next week's episode, of... THE GEEKBOX! Also, on future episodes: Find out what happens to the diabolical Fitch-hitch twins... trusty Greg Ford... absent Mike Cruz... and the conclusion of the epic Patrick Joynt story!
Like most people, I happened upon the Geekbox doing a search for my favorite group, the Donk Boys. But as a foodie and a recovering rageaholic, I found a kindred spirt in Karen Chu. Listening to Karen chew loudly into the microphone and let her fellow podcasters know exactly how stupid they are was music to my hot little ears. I like to throw an episode on whenever I need to stiffle the urge to eat an entire Snickers and punch someone in the mouth over and over and over and over. Hooray!
I just wanted to let everyone know how great this product is. At first it was a great tool to use in addition to my weekly Lost viewing, and soon after I discovered just how versatile this box can be. Not only does the Box assist in cleaning my house but it also reduces loud background noises that become distracting. But that’s not all, this box keeps me company when I am brushing my cats and cleaning out the cat box! Is there anything it can’t do? I look forward to years of use and you should too!
this podcast is sick. i have listened for over 20 years and it only gets worse. i have to download on wifi now. syncing this podcast on itunes causes my pc to crash and will only unlock if i unsubscribe. if i pause geekbox my iphone begins to smell of rotton eggs and onions. only real complaint is that ryan scott has the worst nerd impression ever. also, i think one of the chicks is asian or something so there ya go.
Lovely group of people discussing games, comics, and miscellaneous geeky stuff. For adults by adults with a healthy helping of good humor.
Love Ryan, Karen, omg all of you! and so devastated to hear about the 1up lay off! I've sent in donations to several former 1up cast websites, including yours Ryan. Please keep up the podcasts! Its the one thing that always gets me through my days at work! Love you guys! and Flashback from the July 2008 Legendary Thread past. I'm the guy you all referred to as "A" on that podcast. I was in Shawn's guild LOL.... and for the record my name was Ashleron.... Just wanted to resubmit! Still listening and stil sponsoring! I never fail to laugh out loud at work while listening, although it could be embarrassing I play back what I laughed about and everyone I work with also laughs.
The only podcast I enjoy eating lunch with every Thursday!
If you are reading this review you are already somewhat interested in a podcast focused on all things geeky. Click subscribe already. Ill save you headache of reading a lengthy review. The cast of the geekbox is inciteful, knowledgeable ,funny and the opinions on topics discussed always come across as honest and heartfelt.
The Geekbox is a groundbreaking social experiment that truly tests its subjects to their limits. Don't let the "Video Games" tag fool you, this podcast gives listeners a rare look into the inner workings of humanity. Renowned Northern California researcher, and comic book store owner, Ryan (Master) Higgins, has lured his unwitting subjects (Ryan Scott, Karen Chu, Alice Liang, Andrew/Adam Fitch, etc.) to his shop under the clever rouse of recording a weekly podcast. It is there that Higgins begins to push them to their limits by confronting them with the thing that modern man fears most: irrationality. Man fears that which he cannot understand. During the faux conversations among the subject, Higgins tactically drops, well crafted, ticking time bombs of irrationality. Whether it is by completely dismissing works that are of unquestionably high quality, such as the game Limbo; Professing his of inexplicable love of things that are of poor quality; Stating that he loves one thing while at the same time hates another thing that is essentially identical to the thing he loves; or simply by telling tales of playing absolutely horrid MMORPGs such as DCU Online and Star Trek Online; Higgins runs his subjects through a mental obstacle course. Higgins begins by first making these statements and then failing to provide any reasonable explanation of why he thinks those things or feels that way. Then, records their reactions. We are able to peer into the inner workings of human beings as Higgins pushes the subjects to the breaking point by forcing them deal with attempting to comprehend that which is un-comprehendable and to find reason where none exists. This truly fascinating study is sure to be the topic of dissertations for years to come. A steady flow of new test subjects, such as BEYOND's Greg Miller, add new dimension to this already complex experiment. Higgins even tackles the "nature vs. nurture" issue by including the Fitch twins. It would benefit scholars to begin following this study now as Test Subject Karen Chu's frustration level seems to be nearing the breaking point. This impending explosion will undoubtedly provide the climax of the study. Listening to this will make you question all you know about humanity, as Higgins, through his test subjects, attempts to answer all of the "Big Questions" that arise in the modern world. PS - @Ryan Higgins: I hope you were not offended in any way. I just think that your views on certain things and your (lack of) explanation for such views are hilarious as I am the same in many ways. Love the podcast!
Almost as good as Rebel FM!
My favorite podcast. Turned me on to The Walking Dead and Burn Notice. Was my weekly companion for Lost. The cast is wonderful and helps me be a better geek than I could be on my own.
You know, sometimes I want to just zone out and play games while I listen to podcasts in the background. Its how I kill time. But what kills that for me is when I'm constantly laughing at jokes, or looking up things I didn't know about that they mention, or pausing my game to focus on what they say because its legitimately interesting. This is a great podcast, the entire cast is smart and engaging. Definately worth a listen if you want to hear about a wide range of topics from video games, to comics, to TV. However, they need to Double Fitch this and get some double brother conversation going on.
I absolutely love this podcast. The crew provides a great variety of geek discussion from Video Games to Harry Potter. My personal favorite is Karen Chu for the simple fact that I'm a Detroiter and she used Verners as part of her discription of Hogwarts Butter Beer. I can't get enough of this podcast.
Great show. I love this because it has games and everything else. Keep it up!
I miss GFW Radio. But everytime Ryan Scott would be mere seconds away from voicing his awesome opinion, Shawn Elliott would cut him off and tell some story about greifing in 2nd Life! So I listen to Geekbox and get my fill of Ryan Scott quirkiness. More than I thought I would ever want. Plus, there are girls.
Whether you like to eat, nerd dating, video games, comic porn or laughing fits this is the podcast for you.
I'm not a comics fan and I'm not a fan of most of the games they talk about. But they are so interesting and funny that this is one of my favorite podcasts.
I'm a newish listener I started listening about 5 weeks before the geekboxies I randomly happend apon your podcast when getting ready to leave for a trip and I needed something to keep me entertained from ohio to florida. thankfully your wonderfully geeky chat let me escape traped in the back set with my brother and young sister. Anyway the great thing about your podcast is you all mostly work for review sites or at game companys so you are great way to keep my fingers on the pulse of the game Industry.
Ryan Scott's voice triggers my nerd-punch reflex with every syllable. This has trimmed my Tae Bo sessions down to 45 seconds.
The show comes together like a Sexual Voltron, ready to make love to your inner-geek.
Unfortunate for those seeking an honest review of this podcast, iTunes, apparently, doesn't allow the use of "overly sexual language". I will do my best within these narrow puritanical restraints. But, 'OH BOY', does this podcast get me aroused. When Wednesday rolls around, I download the Geekbox, lock myself in, light my incense, and lather up for the geek I will experience from within this box. Though I never expected to be one to admit such a thing, the auditory nirvana one undergoes from man-Scott's auditory projections is other-worldly. Never since being with a woman was I so fulfilled: so complete. And the ecstasy for your ears does not meet and end there! The low, nasally tone one is usually complacent with, and has come to expect, is augmented by low lows and high highs. Nothing was spared in the production of this audio-erotic fantasy. The she-Karen and Alice are unexpected style choices that enhance this ear cavity pleasure. Were this production to falter, or cease to be, I would be at a loss. My person has been very drastically altered by personal discoveries set in motion upon suggestion by the podcast entering the dome that rests above my bosom. Upon highest suggestion do I... suggest this purchase. One will not be unsatisfied -- nay -- one cannot be unsatisfied. ------------- --Kevin
Love the podcast! I look forward to it every week.
I've never been a "dudebro" gamer, avoiding halo and COD to play Shadow of the Colossus and Castlevania. This group goes into every aspect of geekdom, from comics and games to Venture Brothers and Doctor Who. In fact, I started watching Doctor Who BECAUSE of Geekbox. Thanks guys (and girl)! Keep it up
I live in Spain, and every morning I wake up at the crack of dawn and trudge off to work. The sound of Karen Chu or Ryan (does it matter which one?) railing about the greatest and worst geek stuff is like eating my geek stuff Wheaties. Also, the episode about the geektionary made me scare an adorable old Spanish lady from snorting out loud. Pretty pretty please do an episode about D&D? Love you guys! P.S. Angry Birds...
I am writing this review because first Ryan told me too and second the fitch hitch has shown me how to find love on this earth and how to be your self and stay strong in moral values
Ok, first off this podcast gets a lot hate for some reason unbeknownst to me, but i would like to say that thus podcast has a lot of great elements to it that the podcasters usually don't give even give themselves. Ryan Scott is the host, the voice u hear on every show. Ryan Higgins is the one that hates everything popular (no joke, he will find some obligatory reason to hate anything popular) Karen Choo is the one that is surprisingly the most well rounded of the bunch. She's into popular music, she's a hardcore gamer and she knows a lot of mainstream references that go over the heads of the rest. Adam/Andrew Fitch (I'm still kinda skeptical about that. Hmmmmm) On one side we have the one who doesn't share his private life, on the other we have the one who is very open. I guess being twins, it kinda make sense. Alice the fun loving all round cool gamer girl. She brings on the other female perspective on the gamerverse. Justin Haywald (I know I'm spelling that wrong) to be honest the first time j heard his voice, I thought he was British. He's the 'regular' guest on the show that adds a little more flavor. And we can never forget Roady Brock, the tough stripper body guard. Buy seriously though, he's great. All of these people and many more (sorry if I forget your names) bring a lot of different perspectives on various issues and i look foreword to new episodes every week. (p.s. I hate on the Karen haters out there, go Karen!!!!)
The people on this podcast seem to only want to scwabble about things not even relevant to videogames. They also like to spoler things like video games, TV, and movies. The ladies on the show are annoying as can be and complain about everything under the sun. Dont waste your time with this trash. They give out wrong information and swear just for kicks and giggles it seems. Thumbs down.
One if the better pods for us working geeks! Keep up the good work!!
I say! That Ryan Scott lad has really come out of his shell. He is one of the most opinionated game journalism personalities out there, and this podcast provides us a unique opportunity to look into the mind of this fascinating individual. Along with the other luminaries that frequent this podcast ("Master" Ryan Higgens, Karen Chu, Roady Brock, and the Legenday Fitch Brothers - never in the same room?), Mr. Scott leads this podcast in a discussion of popular art, literature, cinema, and general "geek" culture that never disappoints. Even when this podcast goes awry, thanks to the antics of a surprise visit by Patrick Joint or Jeff Green, it is a welcome treat. To summarize, am I satisfied with this podcast? Quite. Now, if you'll excuse me, it is time for the morning fox hunt. Talley ho!
I listen to a lot of podcast and while this one is great in many ways. like being funny, entertaining and informative. One of the reasons this is in my top three list is because they all have a soft voice. What I mean by that is I don't have to keep changing the volume because they just keep getting louder or they scream. Oh and also they all have very sexy voices. My sexuality has been put into question thanks to this podcast
Love the show, been following the cast since the days of the much missed WOW 1up show, Legendary Thread. Keep up the great work, and you might even get some stinky tofu, pork buns, and ssssuper glutinous rice seasame ballzzzz in teh exprezz mail. Bring on the Scarab Lord to the Box! You guys may have secretly hated him, but the show was better for it. Scarab Lord! Taipei Gansta doin the lean, TaMaDe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! KaoYao!!!!!!!
Ryan Scott and the crew are back for yet another podcast full of exciting entertainment. Gameplay: Geekbox offers innovative and creative game design that allows players to not only download the podcast, but put it on their Ipod as well. It was slightly repetitive to press play and pause over and over, but I had fun doing it none the less. Graphics: All I can say is wow. With podcast art like that, it's no wonder they continue to make great episode after great episode. The retro esc pixel art combined with a faint ripple looking effect in the background gets me excited to listen every week. Sound: The theme song has an every day game and avant garde vibe to it giving the hardcore gamer a reason to stay for the rest. It's what gamers do want! Gameplay: 8.77 Graphics: 9.12 Sound: 8.99 Overall: Geekbox is an enticing podcast for the inner geek in all of us. They've really learned their lessons from the Brodio and Legendary Thread. Can't wait till they box up a new Geekbox next week and ship it to an iTunes near you.
The podcast itself is not strictly video games even though it is in that category,it really seems like a combination of everything. The group tends to get off track of the topic but this is not a bad thing it leads to hilarious conversations and interesting viewpoints on different topics, I found myself going from seriously listening to different opinions to laughing because of how funny they are. I find this to be one of the best podcasts I have heard from video-games to Music-industry and etc. the show is a fun thing to listen to and I recommend that everyone listen to it.
The Geekbox kicks major monkey-ninja butt!!!! Except when Karen is gone and we have to listen to Ryan Scott be boring. I cry from whenever I finish that weeks episode until the next one is released! I have been subscribed since their first episodes, and it's awesome how much more popular they've gotten. But not popular enough! Why are you still reading this? SUBSCRIBE!!!!!!!!! (\__/) (='.'=) (")_(") Awesome kitty approves.
Once every year I rereview and change up my opinion on the show. 2009 they were just getting started, 2010 they rocked us out now in 2011 it seems they continue to do what they do best... Be nerds. The conversations range from " What is the difference between a Nerd and a Geek" to "what women demoralizing comic is Karen reading?" to even "what is Karen eating now on the Eatbox." I kid in all honesty the show is for all ages but be warned that there are some topics that will go above the teenage mind. I leave my rated at five stars for they still out preform some podcast but continue to be on a level playing field with Rebel FM and Gamers with Jobs. Overall Geekbox fills the nerdiest of nerd quotas and continues to keep the listeners entertained and hopping for the next episode like an addict. Yes, I meant hopping.
I really look forward to this podcast every week...A 1 on the Gabby Scale, ha ha
This is one of my favorite gaming podcasts thanks to the great cast. I find it interesting because they actually talk about more than just gaming. I'm not really into comics, but it's interesting to hear about them from people who love them so much. Rebel FM has gone way downhill recently, but this podcast has stayed consistantly good for me. Also, Alice Liang is awesome and shouldn't get any hate.
Let's face it, if you know what 1up is; if you smile at the beauteous concept of a PODCAST recorded at a COMIC SHOP; if the thought of insiders and even WOMEN talking insightfully and intelligently (sometimes) about sci-fi, comics, videogames, and any remotely associated coolness gives you a warm feeling deep in your reptilian brain; listen to this podcast. It is exactly what it should be. You will hear about a lot of great stuff that might slip by - random comics written by greats, independent, arty downloadable games... And these guys have fun conversations about AAA games and popular TV and film (Burn Notice scores 0 Gabbies in my book!) They even crunch food on-mike!
I really enjoy listening to The Geek Box every week. I like that they talk about a wide array of topics and because of Ryan Scott's history with CGW we'll hear about PC games as well as console games. My favourite portions are when they talk about table top RPGs because so few podcasts mention them and the way they describe their play sessions sound like my group too. I like that the girls on the podcast don't present them selves as "gamer girls" just gamers. I enjoy all the personalities and I suggest this podcast to my friends.
This show is simply fantastic! You would have to be a koala's uncle's indigested gum tree leaf to think differently. The title is a tad misleading... not a whole lot of talks about boxes, but they got the "Geek" part covered like an American XL shirt wrapped around a timid ferret! The cast is by far the most splendid aspect of the show, as it never seems to repeat the same line-up twice. The Geekbox is like a strike of lightning bouncing around your ear canal until finnaly slamming into your brain with such force it will most certainly not be easily forgotten! Whether you like it or not. Most certainly worth a try!
Ryan Scott must be happy. This podcast is AMAZING. If you enjoy ANYTHING IN THE WORLD this podcast is for you!!! GFW The Brodeo for life!
Great show/cast. I listen every week. A new tv show to take the place of lost would be nice. Maybe Dr. Who?
I love listening to the very interesting conversations about the video game industry from you down-to-earth, friendly peoples. This podcast is the next best thing to the feeling I get after missing dinner the night before and having a large, hot breakfast!
All of these guys and girls have a ton of information locked into their heads. The subjects span from comics to games to computers to movies. It is a great podcast to get a plethora of subjects discussed. They are also a podcast that feels like they want to be there and are having fun when recording it. Give it a shot. It may start off slow in your ears but once you know the personalities it is a joy to listen to.
Great/Funny show. Need to find a new tv show to talk about weekly though, to replace the old Lost talk.
this is a really good podcast, the talk about many different topics including games, movies, tv shows, comics, and many other random topics. The chemistry between everyone is great and the flow of the show moves very nicely. On top of being informative on the many topics they discuss, they are also very funny and a joy to listen to...
The Geekbox is great. It is so great, that I would probably even go to some kind of live Geekbox event. They could call it Geekbox live. But seriously, the Geekbox is a fantastic podcast. If you enjoy movies, videogames, or comics, the hosts generally have a great discussion about these topics. Moreover, they do so without getting into fights or cranky with each other. I hope they keep going. I really appreciate the work they do.
Funny and entertaining group to listen to about movies, video games, comics, and television.
...and it seems as though many of the reviewers here: 1) find the podcast boring 2) are annoyed by the on-mic eating 3) think the cast members aren't geeky enough 4) want to have sex with Ryan Scott (mostly men) I would just respond with 1) for being a weekly podcast, they manage to deliver the geek goods on a highly consistent basis. 2) Karen "Chew" Chu is one of the most interesting members of the show, so a little on-mic munching is a small price to pay. 3) the show records in a comic book shop. Nuff said. 4) I don't judge. But he is married. To a woman. Happily. Allegedly. Anyway, this is one of the best podcasts out there. If you're a lapsed subscriber, give it another shot. You'll be surprised at how good it really is.
I was copulating with my wife when the ipod mysteriously shuffled off of our "Hotel California"-only and onto an episode of the Geekbox. My wife has always been so bored when in bed with me, but when Ryan Scott's voice boomed through our ihome speakers she started to really get interested. Something about his nasal tone excelerated my wife's libido, not to mention her natural lubrication. 5 minutes in and we were bumping uglies like never before (except when I introduced her to my all Hotel California playlist on our honeymoon). We went for twelve hours straight, and only three of those hours were spent passed-out from asphyxiation! It was the best action I've ever recieved, and I think she would say the same. I know she was talking with her friends about divorce before this all happened, but ever since that magical night all she could say is "Hello and Welcome". Geekbox saved my love life.
Great geeky insight into many a matter. No rigid formula. Not only does this podcast have a great low end, but there is a lovely full range provided by the two regular ladies. So, this ain't one of them sausage festivals. Luckily, this podcast is more held together than... well... The Gamespy Debriefings. That podcast is, well, something. It is unique in it's own way. But I digress. Listen to this podcast. I was hyped on Inception, listened to their Inception era podcast, and never missed one since. Quite often I find myself hitting refresh on their page at 11:59 Tuesday nights waiting for this to go up. I think that is a proficient rant. --Kevin
I once said “They make me was to take a cheese grater to my privates”, but how wrong I was.. ..well, sometimes Karen makes me want to sand them lightly... but overall the only podcast worth listening to..
Would be sweet. 1) question to old Fitch 2) usual old Fitch deflection 3) new Fitch gives the real answer 4) fireworks 5) repeat Uuuuuuuhhhhhhhhh Let's get ready to stutta!
Ryan just told me to go review his podcast, so here. Just started listening a month or so ago and I love it. Not as funny as the debriefings (sorry) but way more informative and interesting. Keep up the good work.
As long as you're ok with listening to some things you might not be that into there's always some good fun and laughs. If you're a geek you should be able to appreciate other geek culters even if you are not specifically into them. They got me into Dr. Who and I will be forever greatful.
The Geekbox was created when spaceman from the future, Ryan Scott decided to return to Earth. He now broadcasts his message of peace throughout the world.
I give it a 1 on the Gabriel Anwar scale.
Ryan Scott is cool. I miss Fitch and his neuroses a lot. Karen also provides a nice counterpoint to the guys. The new regulars are annoying. Alice Liang is a babbling bubblehead. She never shuts her trap. Her comments are uninformed. Justin has given up on his bad jokes, but he rarely adds anything that isn't obvious. If Ryan invites Scott Bromley, immediate unsubscribe.
I have started listening to them this week and I found them funny and cool. Granted, they could have some actual topics to talk about, but I still found them entertaining. I just started a podcast (thelazygeeks), and found them to kind be like us. I will keep listening because I think they are good, and I know this dealt with more of the DC Universe MMO, but will listen more to give them an honest chance.
This podcast can be best described as a group of friends sitting around a table talking about what they did over the last week. The host, Ryan Scott, does his best to establish an agenda, but for the most part the discussion dissolves into whatever everyone in the group has been up to lately. There's a wide range of gaming and geek-related topics covered, but many of them are only familiar to one or two members of the cast, creating boring, one-sided discussions. In some instances topics are discussed based on heresay or what they read on Wikipedia, which only makes the discussion worse since it is clear they have no idea what they're talking about. You'll probably get more mileage out of talking with your friends about games and geekdom than you will listening to the Geekbox. It is fine if you aren't looking for professional discussions, but there are a lot better podcasts around done by professionals or specialists that can carry in-depth discussions about their topics.
Great show, it's the only gaming/geek podcast I still listen to. Just wish it was longer.
Not always about video games or movies but always good. Love their banter. And love their rapport.
STOP EATING ON MIC!!!
love this show even though i don't watch the shows they watch or play the games they play or read the comics they read. very entertaining. the hosts work well together. highly recommend.
I randomly picked a podcast. Now i'm addicted to this podcast and have downloaded every episode. Great show not super hardcore and serious which I really don't need. Great show keep it up guys.
Geebox is great for entertainment and gaming news. Really enjoy Ryan Higgins and Ryan Scott. Keep up with the spy tips, love Burn Notice. Just please stop eating on the podcast. Isn't very interesting listening to food in my ear.
I love this podcast. The crew has great chemistry and a great knowledge of geeekology.
A couple of jaded "geeks" that complain about everything. A star each for Karen and Brock who are the only saving grace. GFW forever!
One of my three favorites.
Great Podcast in a nutshell Ryan hates everything, Fitch thinks every hot woman is not, master higgens is a great comic geek who can't watch porn, karen keeps them all real thankfully and Roadie Brock thankfully is the only guy on the podcast. Lovers of geekdom will love this. oh on the gabrielle anwar scale a ten.
This podcast used to be one I would look forward to during work. Over the past weeks it seems that this podcast has really lost its steam. This is a gaming podcast, although you might not know it when listening. It lacks focus, the hosts are often awkward, and they talk about Lost (TV) for 20 minutes.......every episode. 2 stars is generous imo.
I've been listening to this podcast for about two months now and I've been absolutely impressed by the intelligence and the humor of the hosts. All of them have such wonderful personalities and I'm currently going through their older episodes, catching up on all the jokes and interesting discussions I've missed. To summarize: one of the funniest, nerdiest, most awesomest podcasts out there.
awsome show guys keep up the great work....
I really enjoy this podcast. Thanks.
This podcast is mostly filled with Ryan Scott and crew just riffin'. There's few podcasts full of "Just Riffin'" conversations and even fewer which do it right. The Geekbox does it right.
Excellent. Meaningless. Random. Spoilers. Video games. Culturally relevant.
The title really says it all. I listened to this podcast for 62 episodes, but when the topic came around to Mark Millar (Miller?) and Ryan started his non-explanatory whinefest...sorry, I just couldn't take it anymore. Everyone else are cool and have interesting conversations, but Ryan (and as a GFW gang fan and ex-reader, it hurts me to say this) kinda ruins the show. Go ahead and try it, but don't expect anything mindblowing.
With the addition of Greg Ford to the cast of this podcast, the Geekbox is at its best with the off-topic content that has now become the new focus of the show. This is where I come to listen to the great Lost theories and discussions of new games. The entire crew is great and I hope they keep doing it for a long time. 5 stars all the way!!! I love Karen!
Listen to this if you want movies, shows and pretty much anything else in entertainment spoiled, almost always without warning. Also, have an energy drink guys, you always sound kinda dull, even on 2x speed. Unsubscribing now.
If you have actual real geek friends, you don't need to listen to this podcast. Very little is said that is truly insightful, and instead is just a group of people talking about whatever they want. If you really like Ryan Scott, then I guess this is fine, but those turning to podcasts to get conversation that they can't easily have in real life should look elsewhere.
Ummm...what the hell? Well, why the hell not?! JUST LISTEN TO IT
If your even mildly interested in lost but don't want to watch it do not listen to this podcast.
One of the best video game podcasts out there. Very entertaining and it's a joy listen to. LOST talk is pretty awesome too.
even though i think Lost is a sucky tv show, this is the best Ganing Podcast Evar!
This podcast is rather well
Awesome podcast, especially if you're a geek/nerd. And listening makes you hungry...
Seriously. Subscribe to this podcast. Unless you are hearing impaired or hate it when people eat when they talk. Cause they always are eating. Anyways. Go. Click. Subscribe. No regrets.
I enjoy this podcast. It's fun to listen to it. Listening to the podcast is like talking to my friends about random things. I watch burn notice , lost because of them.
I just recently started listening to the show after hearing about it from the Rebel FM podcast and love it. It has become of my favorite shows. Keep doing what your doing and I'll keep listening
Karen's nipples for the win. Just listened to that podcast loved it.
A lot of these reviews give great opinions of the Geekbox. I don't have the capability to write something longwinded enough to give these guys justice. However, I feel all four hosts present excellent quality entertainment on a pretty consistent basis. My best advice is to try it out for a few shows and see how you feel about it. Chances are that you'll enjoy it.
Although it lost a little when Greg Ford left it's still worth a 5 star review. A great geeky podcast covering a wide range of topics including games, TV shows, movies, comics, etc.
Ryan and gang just prattle on about geek topics.
If you're a fellow geek, you won't be dissapointed!
Welp. I've been listening to the Geekbox for an entire year now, and it's still one of the few podcasts I look forward to every week. Ryan & crew have a lot of opinions, and I have to say I agree with most of them, but when I don't I'm glad that Ryan lets me know I'm entitled to my wrong opinion. You can tell he cares about his listeners' feelings.
The Geekbox reminds me of dinner table conversations I’d often overhear while attending a small engineering college in Texas. Robots, Star Wars, and even dirigibles used as floating combat platforms were common topics of conversation. Sometimes I would find myself cringing at the depths of nerdiness being discussed; other times I would join these conversations and contribute to no end. Much like those overheard conversations in college, The Geekbox often veers off course into morally questionable material due to different guests. I find this to be unfortunate as the rest of the podcast is of high (nerdy) quality. However, just as I would in college, sometimes it is best to leave the dinner table (ie: fast-forward) if things sink too low. At the end of the day, The Geekbox is like coming home to a group of old friends you know and love, flaws and all. Defcon Rating: 4 - Not perfect but highly recommended
More than just video games, this podcast covers the all sorts of nerdy subjects. Big fan.
A great melancholic geek culture schmorgasboard of a podcast
I've been listening to this podcast for a year now, and it never fails to entertain me. Ryan Scott and crew talk about everything on the geek culture radar with insightful and hilarious commentary. I would recommend this to anyone even peripherally interested in geek culture.
I love the Geekbox! They talk about everything from games, comics, porn, and even FITNESS!!!! Ryan and Karen should so hook up, even though their both married, but their babies would be really cute.
I just listen to the talk about paying off listener to "buy" iTunes review and it's so funny I have to write a review about it. But in all seriously, this is my favorite video game related podcast after the discontinuation of the old 1UP podcasts, 1UP Yours and GFW Radio. For any one who care, all of the former hosts of GFW Radio have found a new home of their own and start new podcasts for either EA or Take Two. But I still like this one the best. I don't read American comic and I enjoy the talk of comic books very much. I find their sincerity in embracing the geek culture very comforting.
I've listened to other geek inspired podcasts but none keep my interest like The Geekbox. I may not be into all the topics, like The Venture Bros. or Burn Notice, but the hosts are interesting enough that I still want to hear what they think about various topics. They have even turned my interests towards a few things that I wasn't previously a fan of. I've given Burn Notice a chance and would love it if it wasn't for the anorexic female lead that some of the podcast staff also dislikes. Even the WoW conversations are enjoyable and I could never imagine sitting down to play the game because they are passionate about the game and I know all about getting sucked into a game world and losing track of time and yourself. I subscribe to about 20 podcasts but look forward to this show more than any of them. They cover movie, gaming, TV, comic and geek topics that I want to hear about it. I recently became a father and my time to listen to podcasts has decreased dramatically but The Geekbox is a highlight reel of nerd news that I will always make time for.
Love these guys, look forward to it every week. Wish Fitch would relax a little but it all works!
This is one of my must listen to podcasts every week. Love the hosts and the opinion coverage of games, movies and television.
thanks for the first year
This show is the best, it's always about something different but always geek related. I love the hosts and I love how candid they are, my favorite thing to listen to while I'm at work. Da bomb
and I love it
Ryan and crew makes every week a bit more bearable. it doesn't really matter to me what they're talking about, they make it worth listening to.
Great podcast for anyone who plays video games!
This one star review is mostly because of Mr. Karen Chu I hate you.
Great podcast, been listening from the beginning. Word of advice; bring Patrick back. Winding Fitch up is probably the funniest thing in the world.
I'm just glad to see Ryan Scott pick up where he left off with Lan party. The crew is great and meshes well together. I is good to hear some new voices and listen to videogame nerds talk about other things that I may not have had too much exposure to.
How this podcast got a five star rating is beyond me. For self professed geeks they talk very little about what would be considered “geek culture”. About the only things they seem passionate about are the TV shows Burn Notice and Lost. I like those shows but I don’t think of them as geeky. They do talk occasionally about comics, but only superficially. It is mostly a bunch of people sitting around talking about nothing in particular and sounding bored, and depressed. If you suffer from insomnia give this podcast a try, otherwise there are much better “geek” podcasts out there.
Subscribe and enjoy. Loyal listener since episode 1.
Week after week these guys, put on an excellent show talking about everything that I wanna hear about. They are one of my must have podcasts every week. Recorded in a comicbook store this stuff is great and RAW. Love it. Download and subsribe to this now.
But this turned out to be even better. Actually, it turned out to be Mo' Betta. Very unexpected from Ryan Scott whom hardly said anything during the CGW/brodeo days. Karen Chu, ryan higgins, Greg Ford. The best ever.!!! Thanks guys. I look forward to this podcast every week.....or whenever you update. Also, be sure to check out the CO-OP vidcast aka "1up show" when they were at ziff Davis .
Aids you get from the chick from transformers!!! Totally worth it!
Geekbox gives AIDS.
Even their seldom tangents are very entertaining to listen to! Best podcast, just as GFW was. Keep it up guys!
This podcast has something for everyone, mainly because it caters to such a broad audience that it does not face the same problem as some of these other pdcasts getting tied down with their specifics of expertise. No, the geekbox caters to all sectors of nerds that wish to have a voice heard. Whether it be, movies, tv, comics, larp-ing, and games in all respects, all demographics are reped here. That's why it's so compelling to come back to every week, because of the interesting discussions and the people that make them happen. My highest praise.
Great group, the new guy is a welcome addition. It's been great since the beginning and continues going strong. My only complaint would be that I wouldn't mind if it were a bit longer (I actually enjoyed the random discussion about the generational gap between those who grew up on the internet and those who didn't - thinking about it afterwards, I have no idea how I ever knew concerts were coming to town in the pre-internet days).
Just replaced diggnation as my favorite all time podcast. Give it a listen if you are any kind of geek.
Rebel FM. Geekbox might give smallpox, but there is a cure for that.
So what if it's just a group of people who talk about geeky things like comics, movies, TV shows and video games for an hour and a half? The Geekbox is entertaining from the intro music and out, regardless of the repeated and now signature "uhh's" and "what the hell?" from Ryan Scott (the show's host). They provide great insight in those geeky things and dating tips for those who need it!(and it's from a girl!!) If you like playing video games, the TV show Lost, or reading comics, AND you listen to Podcasts...there's no doubt that The Geekbox is FOR YOU!
Geeky and cool. Love it.
It's a great podcast! Really funny and entertaining.
I'm not the biggest fan of everything they discuss (Lost), but they cover such a wide range of topics, from comics, to games, to sci fi, to just random crap its like listening to four of your best friends having a coversation. Only wish I could actually chime in from time to time.
is the best post EGM/1up layoff podcast. Well, this and Good Grief. Sad to hear Ford is leaving soon.
Great Podcast! The personalities on the show work really well, and the talk, ranging from scifi, comics, TV, and video games is great as well. This is great entertainment and a highlight of the podcasts that I listen to.
I came to the podcast by way of GFW radio, where Ryan was ragged on for not speaking up enough, so it's awesome to hear him in his own show. I love how the show covers a lot of areas on interest for geeks. And Fitch, while I'm rooting for you to find a good girl, I'll never forgive you for that interview with Bonnie Pink!!!
If there ever was a "Video Game" podcast that didn't spend much time talking about video games, worth listening to this is the one! Keep it up and RAW.
Not too long, not too short - it's the perfect length to listen to while doing work on the computer! I love it.
Mr. Scott told me to review this podcast so that he could be on top of the list and knock Oprah off it. And I does as Mr. Scott tells me to! *Salute* Seriously though, Ryan Scott, the host with the most "uhs" in his intro, delivers with The Geekbox. Not so much a video game cast, but a conversation of all things geek, from Lost and comic books to the latest movies and Burn Notice, the groups favorite TV show. If you know which episode of Star Wars is which, play WoW religiously or read the Watchmen comic BEFORE you saw the movie, you'll enjoy the Geekbox.
Pretty much what you'd expect from the least interesting guy on GFW Radio.
Awesome podcast! Not only is there great gaming insight, but the Burn Notice talk is time well spent!
One of my favorite podcasts out there. The only imporvement is to make the podcast more direct with the coversation. I do not need another podcast full of fluff.
Continues the GFW tradition of talking about games, movies, and whatever else is geeky enough!
Funny, informative podcast, which covers a variety of topics in entertainment. Love Burn Notice !!!
A great, funny way to keep up with the Geekerati. Enjoy Ryan, Ryan, Karen and Greg in their free-roaming, but always interesting, discussions on games, tv, movies, comic books, and whatever else happens to catch their attention that week. Good stuff and keep it up!
My favorite podcast!
Ryan "What the Hell" Scott has left his quiet position of GFW Radio (aka The Brodeo) and is now the host of the Geekbox. He is accompanied by Master Higgins, A Fitch, Karen and Greg (as well as some other quests). The podcast talks about movies (Wolverine, Star Trek, Watchmen, Fast and Furious, Up, just to name a few), Lost, Burn Notice, video games, comics, Firefly, really anything Joss Whedon. All the discussions are hilarious. Listen to this podcast and subscribe to greatness.
Go candy hoarders!
This is a great geek podcast. The group of people are funny fun and they really work well togeather. You have to listen to all the back episodes. Funny
Geekbox by far is my favorite of the post 1up podcast podcasts. Everything from comics, games ,TV, movies, and one hosts trials of dating. By far the most etertainment I get at work of the above subjects. Keep'em coming Rydog and crew. You will have a listener here for the long haul!
Still trying to digg you guys as much as I can goodluck with the new way of life and I will try to donate as much as I can goodluck to all and I will try to contribute as much as I can dont loose the geek roots as you get new jobs all over the place you guys all together make a great crew
Great show, great hosts, great topics, what more could you want?
This podcast would be much better if. 1. Cover a subject from multiple sides stop agree all the time we listen to a podcast with several people to get different aspects. 2. Stop talking so pretentious you act like your in Cali. so you know better than evrybody else and thats clearly not true. 3. And for the love of God stop talking about "when I was at 1up" we get it. Its over so build a bridge and get over it.
This podcast is excellent and is definitely the favorite out of the 15 or so I listen to a week. Go Geekbox crew!
Why settle for the false hope of free KFC? This podcast delivers the REAL deal: Video Games? Check. Comics? Check. Lost? Double Check. Do the right thing, subscribe to this podcast, and ditch the Oprah.
A great new podcast that has sprung up from the folks that brought us GFW Radio,Legendary Thread, and EGM Live. I recommend it too anyone that is interested in nerd lore or geek culture give it a listen its about more than just video games.
This is hands down my favorite Podcast. I live in a pretty rural area and most of my friends have pretty rural hobbies. Hunting, fishing, working on automobiles, that sort of thing. I love my friends, but this leaves a big, geek sized hole in my heart. Luckily, I have Geekbox to help fill that hole in! My friends may not care about the latest PC games, Star Wars/Trek, or have any idea who Grant Morrison is, but when I feel the need to geek out I can always download the latest episode of Geekbox and live vicariously through Ryan Scott and the gang. Geekbox, I salute you, and award you five well deserved stars!
As with all work I have experienced from Ryan Scott, this podcast is bland, boring and totally lacking in creative ideas. Ryan's contributions to GFW radio were meager and rarely engaging. This podcast continues his trend of total sub par insight on the gaming industry and was not worth the twenty minutes I wasted listening to it. I strongly recommend that you check out other podcasts such as “Gamers with Jobs”, “1UP Listen Up”,”A Life Well Wasted” and “Out of the Game”, for insightful intelligent games journalism.
Really fantastic podcast, and has improved since the first few episodes. Like how instead of a typical "the graphics are muchly improved" gaming podcast, this focus's on what gamers also probably like. Subscribe and rate, put rebel fm out of the top people.
This is a great podcast and I never miss an episode, I don't even watch any of the shows you guys talk about or read comics and its still entertaining
I'm docking you stars for your constant bashing of a pretty good guy. I live in austin and he's done tons of good stuff for the city. Haters
I thought I was stuck listening to lame talk radio in the mornings filled with commercials and "hot topics" such as celebrity gossip...lame. The geekbox covers topics that are actually relevant to what I do. And they talk about LOST which is awesome. It's just normal people, hanging out, talking about stuff I talk about. And you should check out the forums. And Digg them.
I have enjoyed this podcast since it first came out. They talk about a variety of subjects, which is why I like it more than some of the other video game podcasts out there like Rebel FM and Listen UP. I am writing this review because Ryan Scott asks us to write reviews, and the show is good enough that it warrants the praise whether asked to write reviews or not.
The cast is excellent and very entertaining. This podcast is just plain fun, and is one of the few that I listen to as soon as it's available.
Best Nerd Podcast Hands-Down.
A great podcast about the nerdy side of videogames with a funny cast.
Fantastic podcast, if you like comics, tv series or video games its great to listen to
At one time I wrote a favorable review of this podcast but now I take it back. Higgins is the only person on the show with an enjoyable personality and that seldom shines through due to Ryan's ramblings and Fitches, well, Fitch-isms. I could no longer stomach the show so I unsubscribed.
This podcast has too much Burn Notice / Lost content. I kind of hate it.
If you want everything you can find in the nerd universe with some fun, listen to the geekbox. They keep you updated on comics, video games, lost and burn notice. Also anything else that falls the the "geek" category.
The Geekbox is really a great podcast. Though it may be in the video game category, most of it is about TV Shows, comics, and the Hosts lives. Even if you don't like comics (like me) you'll still enjoy this thanks to the great dynamics the cast has. Great sound quality too (and awesome theme song!). Without The Geekbox, my morning and afternoon commute would be much less fun.
No! Don't kill the podcast! Damn you Ryan, for being so cool! Seriously though, I've been a fan of Ryan Scott for a long time and Geekbox is an excellent podcast! Long live the Geekbox!
This is the best thing to happen to geeks since pocket protectors.
It's good to Rydog moving into a more lead role after The Brodeo 97.5 ended and also LAN Party. This is a great show with host Ryan Scott(Rydog), Ryan(Master Higgins), Greg(The Yakker Ford) Andrew(The Man of Fitchtery), and Karen(Momopeche). Highly recommendable.
This is the best podcast that i listen to!!!
Great cast: funny and full of great incite into geek culture. Great to have Ryan back!
And he is.
Although this podcast is categorized under video games, it's an excellent podcast for comics, television and just life in general. Anyone looking for something nice to listen to should definitely subscribe!
Just caught onto this one a few weeks ago but quickly got caught up. Fun, interesting, somewhat diverse topics. It's good not to always just talk about games. Movies, TV, Comics, even a little dating talk. Oh yeah...and Fire!...Fire!...he he. Give it a shot, it gets the Krusty seal of approval.
Great podcast that doesn't shy away from it's exploration into all manners geeky.
Fashion + Games + Comics + TV = Friggin awesome, C'mon, give it a shot
I was hesitant to subscribe, since Ryan was the most boring member of GFW...HOWEVER, he is totally in his element on this show. FAR from boring, I love this show! Keep up the awesome work, guys!
I'm a geek. Plain and simple. If you too are a geek and do not listen to this podcast, your geek card has just been revoked. The crew of The Geekbox delves into a wide array of topics including games, movies, TV, and comics. It's a fun and entertaining listen.
This is pretty much everything I want in a podcast. They talk about games, movies, tv shows and they even got me to start reading some comics(I've read Watchmen and Walking Dead books 1-3(hardcovers) so far and I have sandman vol 1 to start).
To be completely honest, I have not one clue of half the things discussed on this podcast. Other than the truely smirky comic book refferences and that one Sopranos discussion, the team spends a large chunk of its time idealizing 'Lost' plots along with trying to decipher them. Though I'm not a Lost or Burn Notice fan at all, I keep my subscribtion because it is a very solid podcast. Entertaining to say the least.
The geekbox is a great podcast which makes GFW radio and Legendary Thread going away just a little bit easier. Thanks for the show and hopefully you will be back to #1.
A great show covering forms of entertainment I like. Nice recaps of LOST, good comic duiscussion, and of course some video game talk.
This podcast is the best thing since sliced bread, which is probably the only thing Ryan Scott will willingly consume.
I've been listening since the first broadcast and has the perect mix of all that is "geeky". I would recommend this to all comic, sci-fi (not SyFy), TV and video game fans out there.
I picked up the GFW late and missed most of it but followed Ryan Scott all the way to the geekbox and he does a great job of keeping good people around. If you get angry when people discuss things besides games you won't enjoy this as much but if you are an all-around-nerd you will enjoy their discussions and stories. I would rather more games/comics and less shows as I don't watch any of the ones the talk about but I still enjoy hearing their commentaries on it. Plus it clues me in when around other friends who do watch. Anyway, join Ryan Scott's Cult!
If you are a fan of science fiction, video games, and anything else that would have gotten your a swirley in high school subscribe to this show. The last episode was not as good as the rest but that was due to guests, so if you listen to this last episode and think its just okay listen to the previous one as well before making a final decision. Also check out Ryan's website at the geekbox.net the forums will get you through the week.
Ryan Scott leads a group of fellow geeks through the worlds of videogames and comics. A great show for the geek in all of us.
He has far outpaced his 5 to 10 word count of the old GFW days, i think well burnout on him at this pace in a few more months!
The geekbox is an excellent podcast that is topical, funny, and informative. Well done, guys!
This is a very talented group of podcasters that are knowledgeable and opinionated about a wide variety of subjects. Chances are if you're reading this, you'll love it, subscribe now! Join the geekbox movement!
This is the best place to hear chatter about some of my favorite things: TV shows and Videogames. The crew touches on the shows that I like, as well as some of the biggest releases in video games as well as some of the most anticipated movies; and it's all recorded in a comics shop. Easily my favorite video-game related podcast.
No one does wholesale nerd talk better than these folks. Anything and everything geek related you can think about is help within this podcast.
I gave this podcast a fair shake, because I've always liked Ryan Scott. However, the more listened to it the more it became clear that they have nothing to say. Its kind of' sad to me that I'm even writing this, but I think that I owe it to them to give constructive criticism. I've been a geek my whole life. I love games and comics. I'm an encyclopedia of information when it comes to popular music (from modern indie to classic rock to hip-hop to classic country) and film. Listening to Geek Box is like listening to my friends from high school talk about these things instead of adults. They rarely have anything insightful to say on the subjects and often miss the subtleties of a given subject. For example, I listen to a lot of podcasts and among them are a few film ones. The discussion of Watchmen made me want to blow my brains out. Not only did they bring less to the table as fans of the comic (many of them seeming to have completely missed what would made the comic interesting) but they had nothing interesting to say about it as a film period. In high school I may have been less frustrated with the opinions tossed around on this podcast, but today I just can't take any more of this. You need to really put some thought into an opinion before you start to broadcast it. I guess I expected more from Ryan. Plus, I don't even watch burn notice and I'm sad to say that the fact that they think its great makes me want to see it LESS. That’s a bad sign. I'm sorry, but subscription cancelled. I wish I were a better writer so that I could make a better point.
When you're a geek, be sure to listen to The Geekbox so you stay on top of geek culture lest you risk losing your cred. An entertaining podcast covering many topics from tv and movies to comics to games and of course cactus cola. The recurring hosts are an entertaining bunch who share their knowledge and opinions. The show feels like hanging out with friends talking about your favorite shows and hobbies.
I'm usually only in it for the videogame reviews but I love how they discuss movies and TV as well. Not too keen on the Comic book stuff but it's quite tolerable, even with a limited knowledge about comics it's usually easy to follow along. Long live Noprah!
I like your podcast because it is a good all around podcast. Even though I don't play or watch all of the things that you absorb, I do enjoy listening to you guys rant and rave about the myriad of topics that you discuss from week to week.
Fitch. Everything about him bugs me to no end, it takes me lots of work to not yell out loud almost everytime he is speaking. other than him It's a great podcast.
The greats from an i I am sorry for what I am about to write Lan party GFW radio, you know u love it. After the fallout from the UG offer how can one not love this exellent podcast, best ever
You know when you get something before you realized you wanted it? That's this podcast. Just straight up awesome.
These guys know how to converse with each other yet keep it interesting. Half the television shows they bring up in each episode i dont even watch yet their conversations about them are so entertaining. Good podcast! Very geek centric. Lets hope they can keep this up!
Just as in days of old, or... not so long ago, Ry-Dog is back, doing what he does best; talking about geek stuff. Based in Sunnyvale, California, the GeekBox.net crew assemble to throw in there two copper pieces in all things geekish. Most episodes so far focus on the TV shows Burn Notice, and Lost, as well was video games and comic books. Great fun is to be had by all, as these internet psudo-leberities take on the tough issues. There's no Kirk vs Pricard debate here. Dig it. Fark it. Live it. Love it.
Thought this podcast had potential, but in two episodes I've had to race across the room to turn it off because of spoilers for Lost and Battlestar Galactica. I'm a bit behind on those shows and didn't want them ruined. So for now, I'm unsubscribing, lest I have my favorite shows ruined.
Even though 1up is dead the spirit lives on through this and the rebel fm podcast. This podcast is the equivalent to lan party and I love it. I listen every week while going to school or work.
I want to say thank you and keep up the great podcast. informative, funny, and a great way to spen an hour or two a week.
just listen to it.
We can't get enough of Ryan Scott and everyone else!
Its a little bit of everything. Little bit comics nerdum and little bit gaming, but no country. GOOOO GEEK BOX!!!
Ryan Scott is the rarest of things: a genuinely warm, self effacing personality with wit, charm and a way of opening your eyes to new elements of popular culture in a fresh, funny manner that will have you waiting week after week for the next show. This show is sure to be a huge hit.
Check this show out. From some of the guys formerly at 1up. Check it out for all the geekness you need.
Finally a podcast that is the true spiritual successor to GFW. Even only 3 episodes in, the group dynamics are amazing. I can't wait to see how this podcast progresses. I know it can only get better. Listen Now!
The Geekbox is king!
The Geek Box is a fantastic rambling podcast about all things geek including games,tv, comics, and more. Composed of mostly ex-1up'ers and a new face or two, the hosts of the Geek box are funny and have great chemistry together. Check it out!
Its great to hear I'm your host Ryan Scott again.
If you are a PC gamer you should listen to this cast.
Very nice chemistry. Always like Ryan Scott - I am a WoW player too:)
Round table discussions are great for the many topics they touch on. Great personalities with interesting point of views on all geek related topics. No boundaries here! They are bound to talk about something you're in to! Embrace you inner geek and DL NOW!
These guys know video-games. They are also ridiculously funny. If you like video-games, and want to hear about some great ones to play or hear some insider stories as well as other cultural information (comics, TV shows, movies) download this podcast.
If you're looking to keep up with the ex-1up'ers, this is one of the crucial podcasts. Good times. :)
After the mass lay-offs that occured at 1up/EGM, few were optimistic about the future of our favorite videogame podcasts, but after hearing The Geekbox and Rebel FM, the worries were put to rest. The Geekbox is the spiritual succesor to Lan Party (which in turn was spiritual succesor to the masterful GFW Radio), and a worthy one at that. I might even go so far as to say that the first episode of The Geekbox was better than any of the episodes of Lan Party that preceeded it. The commentary on videogames, comics, movies, TV shows, and Andrew Fitch's dating life is seamless and side-splittingly funny. I hope the cast is left for the most part intact for the second show because the chemistry was undeniable. Long live The Geekbox!
I was looking for something to keep my ears busy and I have found my people! Keep these podcast long and i'll keep tuning in. Great stuff guys and gals.
It's been a rough computer gaming year first with CGW/GFW closing down, then Jeff Green & the Shawn's leaving 1UP and finally the loss of half the 1UP staff. Seems all the greats are gone now. Fortunately, Ryan Scott is keeping the dream alive with Geekbox. Along with RebelFM it's almost like they never left.:) Long live the Ziff crew of old.
Great show(s) and thanks for continuing to do quality podcasts.
Ryan Scott is an intriguing personality. In CGW he mostly kept it short, Hell No being the most that could be coaxed out of him. 1UP's Lan Party podcast forced him to open more, and in Geekbox we're finally seeing the true colors come out flying. Most definitively, Ryan does not disappoint.
Would love to have those two hours back. Karen Chu, what a classy broad she is... This show wouldn't need an explicit rating if it wasn't for her dropping f-bombs. Total garbage, don't waste your time. Unfortunately, Greg Ford got caught up in this mess of a show, that's too bad.
not quite as good as Rebel FM
Great podcast. This was digged like mad, checked it out and loved it thanks.
great show, these guys really know what they're talking about
Geek box totaly destroys rebel fm.
Awesome show. Now, you need to get Jeff Green to show up!
Right up there with Rebel FM, here comes another great podcast from the former 1-up crew!
I WISH THIS PODCAST WAS MY FATHER.... AND MY MOTHER.
Really good to have you guys back. Listen and tell a friend abot The_Geekbox.
The fact that a podcast where people come together to talk about games is truly a special thing. Special in the way we come together as gamers to help those who have had bad things happen to them. This was the case with 1Ups Lan party. A great podcast, and very unique. From the ashes of that podcast comes The Geekbox. Truly one of the best podcasts I've ever heard and does justice to our hobby. Thank you.
Ryan Scott comes into his own with this podcast, the first episode had excellent personalities, (Karen Chu, Greg Ford, Andrew Fitch) and interesting discussion. As a spiritual successor to GFW Radio, the personal anecdotes are well mixed with the gaming talk. Here is hoping for cameos from Jeff Green, Sean Malloy, Robert Ashley, and the Masta of Storytelling, Shawn Elliott.
Lost season just started, if you missed it your a suckaaaaa........ Great podcast.
These guys have already brought their game to the table and by the second episode have matched their great show with great sound. I look forward to the show continuing to be awesome as I would never expect anything less from them.
Pure. Geek. pwnage. Nuff Said
This show is one of the great ones that have come about from the 1up takeover. I'm so glad we've still got a way to keep up with you guys and be entertained by you. Keep up the good work!
Great first show and follow up to Lan party.
I have to admit I almost turned these folks off after a few minutes but, seeing as I was at work standing in the middle of a road in 0 degree weather I figured that something had to be better than nothing and I was pleasently surprised! Obviously this group is different enough that they don't share the same views on everything they talk about, and also ,as a result of their diverse backgrounds, a diverse group of topics is brought forth to keep you interested at every turn. All and all very enjoyable. I can't wait to hear how the date went!
It's a videogame podcast in a comic book store, how awesome is that? With a good crew and an excellent mix of topics this podcast delivers. An up and coming podcast you should keep your eye on.
Good start and I like the casts so far, but PLEASE talk to the microphone. I can't stand the voices drifting in and out in the background. Other than that keep up the good job!
I like the show, but please please please speak into the mic. Its hard to listen to it at a consistent volume when the vocals drop so suddenly.
I liked their first episode but I'm a little worried. With all our favorite ex-EGM writers making podcasts, will I have enough time in a week to listen, watch and read all the things these guys are pumping out?
One of the few podcasts I listen to and one of my favorites already. Good to hear Ryan Scott back on a podcast!
Ryan Scott is the greatest being to ever walk the earth.
This was plain good fun and informative. The people have some great insights and interaction. I look forward to the next show. Keep 'em coming!
I have been listenting to Ryan Scott since the Brodeo days, and this podcast keeps up that tradition. cant wait to hear more.
Really like the conversation and dynamic between the cast members. There is some times were the Highs of when people yell or start talking loudly will hurt your ears even when you thought the volume was adjusted properly, but that is most likely due to there first time thru with new equipment. Really enjoyable, keep up the great work.
Great podcast brings me back, try to skype in so old members of gfw and Lan party, and it would be solid gold, hazzaa!!!
Nice start for the Podcast. Hope to hear great things. Keep it going!
i like the show and the old 1up folk, but the mixing in the show is painfully unequal. one minute i wont be able to hear someone so ill turn it up, then the next someone will scream into the mic and it kills my ear drums. you guys just need to google the "levelator". it will fix all your problems. otherwise, keep it up!
I absolutley love this show primarily, if not entirely, because it allows itself a wide swath of topics. Geekbox could not be a better moniker. The show runs from Recent events-to-Video games-to-Testimonials and anecdotes on rivalries-to-Television-to-Comics. It sounds like a mess when written in that manner, but it flows so well in the auditory pace of the show. A must-listen for any and every dork.
I loved CGW/GFW Radio and Lan Party so it's nice to see that most of the gang from Lan Party is back and that your new podcast is still as good as it ever was
Good podcast. Keep it up.
Ryan Scott is what every man should aspire to be.
These guys truly create an amazing gaming podcast, on the top of my podcast downloads list for sure !
Great start. Love the childhood friends vibe. Everyone let your inner geek rejoice!
YOU WILL TOO
Yea, it's that good.
Great funny podcast on life and [email protected]!
If you missed the 1UP era of podcasting, start here to learn the value of a good podcast.
Check out his twitter feed, it's awesome.
A continuation of what made GFW Radio so good. Ryan Scott has come from the background to man up and give us what we have been missing.
Your going to subscribe to this podcast and your going to like it.
It was nice to hear from Ryan Scott and friends again. I hope Ryan can make the podcast a regular thing.
Hurray for starting your own thing. Keep it going!
LANparty is dead long live the geekbox!
One of the best geeky podcasts imaginable. If you like to dabble in geek culture and want to dive in headfirst, this is the podcast for you.
my answers are prayered
A great return to the GFW & Lan Party Days!!
Awesomeness, graet podcast
And so it this podcast. Check it out.
If you liked GFWRadio and/or LAN party you should definitely check this out. This is Ryan Scott's next venture post EGM/1UP. If you just like to hear people with great senses of humor and great industry connections talk about video games, comics, and other media this is also well worth your time.
Excellent, excellent, excellent! One of the best video game Podcast out there.
A group of articulate nerds discussing the best in nerd culture. The show has great production value, especially for the first episode. I can't wait to hear more. Hearing Ryan Scott say more than four words at a time is a treat!
Ryan Scott and other former 1UPers discussing not just games but general nerdom. A fun listen that, dispite it's lengthy time, always seem to end to soon.
This podcast has been a blast to listen to. It was very interesting to get to know some of the new voices. I think anybody interested in video games will get a kick out of this show, and anyone interested in the former 1up/EGM editors will get even more enjoyment out of it.
A great podcast from an expert at podcasts, and former EGM/1up employee. Highly recommended!
Great to see Ryan Scott back on iTunes!
And we are his religion.
Awesomeness in the form of a podcast.
...Ryan Scott.... what else do you need?
For discussion on PC gaming in a nice environment Geekbox can't be beat.
The rebirth of CGW/GFW/Lan Party. I hop this will carry on longer than Lan Party got the chance to do.
great podcast, and really long which is always a plus!
A great new show. This is a fine continuation of the 1UP podcasts along with Rebel FM.
Excellent writing, sirs!
Ryan Scott deserves much praise for putting together a well made podcast from scratch. Chemistry between members is great with almost no dead air. Topics flow smoothly and doesn't feel sectioned off like with other podcasts. A must listen for former GFW Radio listeners!
So this is the continuation of LANParty. I am not going to say it is GFW because without Jeff Green, Shawn Elliot, And Anthony G, it is just not the same. But it is an amazing podcast on its own. Ryan Scott is amazing, always love a little Greg Ford, Finch(and the dating advice is awesome)...ect. If you are into gaming, PC's or tech in general, give this podcast a few listens!
The first podcast was about their memories and loss of jobs, but because I had been following them on their previous podcasts I still found it enjoyable. As long as they get back to the week to week, in-depth discussion of video games, then they're off to a good start.
