I've been listening to the Independent Characters Podcast since 2010. It is my first choice 40k podcast, and with their recent return to podcasting I feel I owe it to them to do a review. They don't cover tactics - plenty of other podcasts cover this ever-changing topic. Instead, the ICs focus on other aspects of 40k as a hobby - buying (Carl), building, and painting minis before throwing them into narrative campaigns. Standout episodes include the shows of force (in which they breakdown a 40k faction), the imperial armor reviews, and how to hid 40k from your wife (in jest of course)! One really feels part of the group with this podcast.
When I recently got back in to Warhammer and switched over to 40K (upon discovering Fantasy had become AoS) I started poking around for a podcast to enjoy. What I encountered was a lot of nerd rage, off topic rambling and discussion relevant only to veteran players. What Carl, Justin and Adan have done is consciously set these things aside to provide a wide variety of quality content. From the hobby to the lore, whether you are a veteran or just getting into the hobby, there are episodes designed with you in mind! These guys love this game and it really comes through the microphone. They have achieved their goal of making the listener feel like he or she is a member of an awesome, friendly, community-building, narrative focused gaming group! Kudos guys, you have inspired me in this hobby and helped teach me how to have fun <3
Hobby Hero Carl, Purchases count as progress. Blood for the blood god.
After an hour of listening and they was still talking about what they did over the weekend still had not concluded I realized this was a good podcast to fall asleep to. Other then that very boring.
I never write reviews out of laziness but the ICs have earned it. Carl and the gang put out an incredibly entertaining, positive show focused on highlighting every angle of the hobby. It has provided me countless hours of entertainment. Glad Carl came back to continue the show- it was greatly missed while it was gone.
Great show. I've been playing 40k for about 4 months. It's good to hear an honest appraisal of the game without the negativity that influences many other podcasts.
Sure. Carl is a Fanboy. He likes his toys. But everything in this podcast is coming from the heart. It's a sincere joy in the hobby, and that's what keeps me coming back. Professionally produced and presented. Topics which I genuinely find helpful and entertaining. Something I look forward to when I get the notice that a new episode has been posted. Did you know they have a Facebook page also? ;)
I've been listening for a long time, absolutely love the positivity and the way Carl, Justin , and Adan (formerly Geoff) bring you into their gaming group and expand the community as a whole. Nothing but love for these guys.
Carl, Adan, and company really do an amazing job making you feel like you’re a part of their gaming community. They pass on their love of 40k and help build the community in so many ways. Keep going strong!
I'd dabbled a couple times in the 40k world over the years. I had an incomplete defiler model in my closet since about 2004 and a shelf full of Horus heresy books, but I'd never played a game and didn't know how to meet people or get started. The Independent Characters is definitely responsible for inspiring me to actually get into the hobby, and I now have a pretty decent chaos space marines force I can actually play with. Their topics, sound quality, and personalities are second to none. I love Carl's unending optimism. Thanks for what you do guys, and thanks for coming back on the air!
I have listened to the IC's for the last few years and am thrilled at their return. If you want a podcast that focuses on the positive aspects of the hobby and not just codex rundowns then this is the show for you. From motivational hobby progress updates to in-depth discussions of Forge World's books, this show fills the need for a 40k podcast like few others do. I cannot recommend enough.
I've listened to a lot of 40k podcasts and this is easily the best out there. Great info on the hobby and narrative gaming with awesome positivity. Keep it up guys.
I used to be an avid 40k player about a decade ago, and have recently started getting back into it (my wife said I needed a hobby). Listening to the back episodes has been a great way to immerse myself in the hobby and 40k universe. I appreciate the devotion made to all aspects of 40k- from modelling and painting to gameplay and rules to narrative and worldbuilding. It's an entertaining and informative podcast, and I've found it useful to get a sense of the state of things in the 40k world.
While it was around, Carl Tuttle's podcast was something of a legend among other Warhammer podcasts. His dedication to 40k and 30k is evident, and his connections with Black Library authors allowed interviews unlike any you'd find on any other show. The podcasting world is poorer for the loss of this show. Oh, wait... He's back? There's new episodes. Well okay then, time to go slap a 5 star on this thing and get the word out. Carl's back everyone!
One of the most entertaining 40k podcasts has returned. It put a smile on my face to hear the guys again. I look forward to what future episodes hold.
I was thinking about getting back into 40k and I stumbled across this podcast and it is amazing. I was sad that I found them after they stopped producing podcasts, but they're coming back! They cover so much in the podcast and it is now the only thing I listen to during my hour long trip to work and school. I very highly recommend this podcast if you enjoy any aspect of the Warhammer 40k universe.
What can I say? Writing this review months after they finally closed up shop on the long running show. You can listen to other podcasts talk about how they were inspired by the IC's and about the good times. It's great and that's been said before. I guess the reason I am witting a review now is to say that even though they are done the content is still here and still relevant. By not just reviewing a new codex which will be ignored next year, they have remained relevant. Their Show of Force episodes are great and focus on a force in depth but without crunching numbers or fretting over points. Because of this even when all the codices out at time of the recording are outdated, the episodes will still be good to listen to. Unlike some podcasts which may end abruptly or decay after loss of interest, the last episodes kept that high quality and not a minute was simply phoned in. They not only did us a service in providing great entertainment, but respected the listeners enough to give us the best content till the end! Don't be disheartened thinking you won't find anything of worth in their backlog, their long high quality episodes will stay with us. I doubt too many will argue with me if I state this is the best 40k podcast ever.
Without a doubt the strongest, most comprehensive Warhammer 40,000 podcast. Sad to see it go!
I love listening to Carl and Justin mix it up. Carl interviewing tops Black Library authors and people in the 40k community is great stuff. Thanks Carl, Jeff, Adon and Crew... You're the best
Lo unico que le falta son theme songs personalizados jejeje
This is a seriously good 40k podcast. Always have good content, always good banter. Stunning array of interviews with black library authors. Haven't heard an episode I didn't like and I've given them an 8 month trial.
It never ceases to amaze me how great this podcast is, Karl and Justin are the perfect compliment to each other. Everything from great gaming advice and topics I would never think to discuss to interviews with some of Black Libraries' best authors! The only complaint I have is that the show is so well done that it goes by too quickly.
I’ve been listening to the IC’s for at least three years now, and I really enjoy what they do and how they do it. The shows are researched and planned very well, although there is still room for spontaneity and lots of humor. The topics are varied and interesting, and I think Carl co host Justin work hard to keep it that way. The guys do great reviews of Imperial Armour books, and I also enjoy their Show of Force series where they take a deep look at the different races in the 40K universe by exploring their fluff, background, gaming style, as well as the options available from the likes of Black Library and Forgeworld. They also do event reviews, discuss their hobby progress, games played, and talk about all the cool new kits they picked up. If you’re looking for a positive, funny, reliable, thoroughly entertaining, and informative podcast, subscribe!
The hosts come across as reasonable guys enjoying their hobby and giving back to the community by introducing us to their knowledge and their industry connections. I always learn something, and I’m always entertained. No bashing or trashing here--just good stuff.
I love listening to the independent character. My favorite podcast by far. I wish there was a little less in the way of 30k nonsense but overall the best podcast out there. Not to mention the forum is reasonably priced.
Great show for hobby, fun and 40k.
I've been listening to this podcast since before I even started playing 40K. Carl and the guys do a great job of making you feel right at home. I've tried others, and they just don't stand up in my mind. As long as they keep making them, I'll keep listening. If you have any interest in the 40K hobby, these are the guys you want to listen to. Professional, entertaining, and engaging. That's what the IC podcast is.
I've tried about 10 different podcasts, but this is the only one that's stuck. I listed to one podcast and then proceeded to go back and listen to the 12 before it. Each sessions is well run, with distinct topics, excellent sound quality and respect for the listener. Even the criticism's or complaintes are discussed in a constructive way rather than a bunch of guys just sitting around a table moaning and complaining, which is what way too many other podcasts do. Awesome job.
I want to take the time to personally thank Carl, Geoff, Justin, and the rest of the hosts for providing a bright spot in the dark and forbidding world of 40k. This podcast is easily worth it's weight in Carls. Thanks guys!
Carl and the gang do an amazing job. Great topics, good fun and the quality of the podcast is second to none. This podcast has helped my hobby tremendously. I’ve gotten into the routine of turning on this podcast and modeling away. I was giving up on my Tau, but changed my mind due to their coverage of Tau and have read some of the Black Library stuff they recommended. Very helpful stuff and raises the hobby to a new level. Cheers and thanks!
If you're looking to hear talk on 40k look no further. Well, I guess you could also check out the Overlords, but I digress. The Independent Characters bring a fair and fresh commentary about the hobby we all love. If you're a seasoned vet or even new to the hobby this podcast has something for everyone. Highly recommended.
Amazing interviews with black library authors and key members of the 40k community. Always great to get through a day of painting.
One of the best Warhammer 40k podcasts out there. They approach the podcast from a more fluff perspective that really serves to balances out all the competitive podcasts out there. I believe they will soon be launching "Lords and Hero's", a Warhammer fantasy podcast companion...
Started listening to Ya'll about 2 years ago and haven't regretted a minute of it. When I was just getting back into the game after a long hiatus your reviews and interviews got me pumped and ready to play, and your focus on the narrative has added a new aspect of the game that I continue to enjoy and love today. I'm sad to be unable to listen for awhile, but I know when I come back there will still be great shows coming from ya'll. Keep up the good work.
These guys are the types of guys I wish were in my area. Where other podcasts excel with Tactics and Rules Lawyering, these guys are a great all round show. Hobby? They got it. Lore? They got it. Author interviews? They got it. Mission creation? They do it. This podcast I am always surprised to see what they come up with and it's never the same thing twice.
As a non-competitive 40k player, whose is always looking for new and interesting ways to forge the narrative, this podcast keeps me both stocked with new or unique ideas and provides just one more way for me to enjoy this hobby. It keeps me constantly motived to explore new elements of the game or play styles, it encourages me to squeeze more hobby time in, and it pushes me make the most out of each 40k experience I have. And it helps that the hosts, whether regular or guests, are the kind of people you'd love to sit down and actually play a game with because you know a good time would be had by all. Keep up the great work.
Good podcast, great to listen to. Some minor personal quirks as to why it's only a 4/5 but otherwise would consider this the go to of 40k podcasting.
This is one of the best Warhammer 40k podcasts I have heard! These guys are great!
For those that aren't deep in the hobby, or are newcomers, there's been a bit of turmoil in the internet 40k community for a while now. The Independent Characters is more than the calm in that storm, it's the amusement park that everyone is still going to while the winds whip around the edges and the veil to the warp is torn free. I'm an on again, off again player, and through all that, and the internet hate, and the new rules after new rules, the one thing that reminded me of how much I love the 40k universe in all it's aspects was The Independent Characters Podcast. Every host that is and has been on the show, but especially Carl and Geoff make you truly feel what the hobby is about, that it's a way for us to hang out and share interests with other people about a crazy scifi game. Their passion and love of the hobby has held true regardless of how everything else goes. As a new host, Justin's enthusiasm is just as strong - he provides the comments and the "you can do it" push to Carl and the other hosts around hobby progress that makes me want to go home and pick up a paintbrush after work, just by listening. 4 and a half years ago, I joined the ICs forum- I may not be as involved as I had been, but looking back at Carl's welcome statement to me: " you're one of the lucky ones that, when you look back a year from now will say "I was number 25 when those forums got started" " - I can't express how grateful I am to be a listener and ongoing consumer of their fantastic podcast, and member 25, 4 years strong.
What I love about this podcast is the weekly section about hobby progress. Listening to this podcast over the span of a few months really made me look at how little I was getting done. Because of this I've started getting a massive amount more done! Luckily, that's just the tip of the iceberg. Between Carl and crew's amazingly in depth product reviews and spectacular lore segments, I haven't been more immersed in the hobby in years. I feel as if this is my own group of gamers chatting about our games and the lore of 40k. Simply superb!
Title says it all. The way Carl, Justin and the bevy of show guests bring the hobby to life in this podcast gives me hope for the future of the hobby itself. Now if only they were located in my town!!
This is my favorite podcast, the guys are all well informed and very insightful. The content spread is great and the the show is very well produced/ high quality. Always focused on growing the community and keeping a positive attitude, the independent characters is a must listen!
Doesn't get better than this!
This is by far the best 40k podcast out there, if not the best podcast in general as far as production quality and content goes. Carl is a hilarious host and keeps things fresh and entertaining. Give it a shot, you'll not be disappointed.
This has been great tool for me learning about 40k, being new to the hobby. Great way to learn about the armies and there fluff along with ways to improve your games.
Nice guys who know their stuff!
A group that truly has passion for the hobby. Even after 2 years of listening, I look forward every week to listening to their show. There is always something positive in the hobby of 40k, and Carl and crew find it week after week. If they ever made the Lords and Heroes podcast, not only would I listen, I would probably find it hard to not buy into Fantasy. Always Listening, 13th Legion
I think we can all agree that, based on the lilting baritone of Carl, he should totally record another Overlords jingle. And now for a comment actually related to this podcast: Carl does a great job editing each episode, and the episodes are very well planned. Their backlog also has some really fantastic episodes as well, definitely worth subscribing and listening while hobbying.
This is an awesome podcast! Covering eveything from the basics of hobying to competion gaming!
I started listening to the IC in December of 2012. Little did I know how they would help me become enraptured in the 40k fluff and hobby. Thanks for all the hard work you guys are amazing!!
I've been listening for about as long as I been playing 40k (March 2013) and man, while my game hasn't improved in the slightest, my enjoyment of it has by listening to the ICs. Awesome podcast that immerses you in the story, the hobby, and a lil bit of the strategy.
This show is an essential addition to our great hobby! They are a great source of positive encouragement, inspiration, and insight into the Warhammer 40K hobby. When I don’t have time to work on hobby stuff myself, it’s great to be able to listen to them while commuting for work, driving for vacation, or just mowing the lawn!
and they said to leave a 1 star review…but i left a 5 instead because this is one of the few, well done 40k podcasts out there. p.s. carl sounds, and sort of looks like will sasso. so there's that.
I enjoy this warhammer 40k podcast for its high production value, consistency and appeal to casual gamers that play for fluff and fun. Keep it up, I always look forward to new episodes.
This really is the greatest thing to have playing while you clip, clean and paint your models. The range of topics covered and interesting interviews are the best. The Show of Force series is fantastic! Most importantly: no wet mouth sounds.
I have been listening to the podcast for a couple months now and i have downloaded some of their older episodes, and i find it very entreating. I listen to it while painting my stuff, and i like how they make you feel like your part of the gaming group. They are not like other podcasts that spend the time bashing GW, they offer criticism when needed and put on a good show.
I got started a few months ago listening and have not been able to stop since. I have even gone to the point that I downloaded all the episodes from your site and have gone back and started listening from ep 1. Keep up the great work and love the IA and Heresy episodes. Would like to hear you guys go back and review some of the IA books again now that you have been in the hobby longer. (plus would like to hear Justin's opinion.)
I just recently got into 40k and was told to check you guys out! I can't wait to hear more and would love to hear y'alls thoughts for a Show of Force: Necrons! :D Keep up the great work guys! ~B
Great podcast, fantastic recordings, awesome info, great personalities. Love the show of force shows.
I enjoy listening to this podcast. Listening to the great things in this hobby got me back into the 40k hobby. I love listening to this podcast. The constructive advice on this hobby has been a fantastic breath of fresh air. Keep up the great work!
I'm pretty new to the hobby of 40k and these guys have been a fantastic companion for learning more about every aspect. They're great for someone new but are also seasoned 40k vets who seem to also offer a lot for long time players/hobbyists. I especially love their "Show of Force" episodes highlighting the armies of 40k and their awesome lore. Also keep in mind their back episodes are on their website for free and I definitely will be going back and checking those out as well.
I don't even play 40k - and I love this podcast. They go in depth into background and rules, and just seem like a bunch of cool guys who are passionate about this hobby. I listen not just for the outstanding overviews and reviews that they do of different books and factions, but also for the clear and structured way that they put everything together . 10/10
I've recently gotten back into 40k and was looking for good discussions of the hobby. This podcast is informative, interesting and obviously made by people who love the hobby. Just glad I found Carl and this podcast after listening to episodes of another 40k podcast and I'm so excited that I found the Independent Characters. I have recommended this to numerous friends who are also getting back into the hobby. Thank you Independent Characters and keep up the amazing work!!

If you're looking for detailed, crunchy rules analysis and every possible edge to win your next game...you won't get that here. What you WILL get is a group of intelligent, articulate, passionate folks who clearly love the game and the hobby, producing a clear, thoughtful, well-produced and friendly podcast. Highly recommended.
The independent characters is a refreshing show that tries to keep a positive spin on all things games workshop. The hosts all have an infectious enthusiasm for the hobby that I enjoy to listen to. The show preaches the philosophy of finding different ways to enjoy playing 40k and its topics do a good job doing that. From time to time there is also very good discussion about the various things that going on in the hobby and some neat interviews with guests.
I have recently gotten into Warhammer 40k and this is a great podcast for enthusiasts of all levels. They make the entire hobby seem much more approachable then some other podcasts and videos out there. The only real problem I have with the show is there hasn't been a lot of ork coverage which being the best faction should get more show time in my humble opinion :)
I always look forward to the next podcast. It’s that good. You too will be hooked. Especially after you listen to the ICs and sample other 40K podcasts and realize the big difference. There is no cursing, no guys talking over each other, no sound quality issues. Just lighthearted, well-reasoned, well-thought out, in-depth discussions and reviews of 40K miscellany to inspire you and listen to while you work on your own hobby progress or while you do other chores.
The production value is great. The content is always fresh and never rehashes what you may hear on other podcasts. Every episode gets me even more excited to be in the 40k hobby.
Helped me select what army to build and why. SALAMANDERS
Thanks for keeping it positive and not gravitating to all the negativity in the world of 40k!
I really enjoy this podcast and the chemsitry between the host is great and the passion for the game is 2nd to none. Though I do feel they are a little biased to the loyalist factions in thier Horus Heresy reviews.
Start here first when looking for a 40k pod cast. Carl and the gang do a great job. Thank for putting out a great show.
Hands down my favorite Warhammer 40k podcast. Excellent production quality. A fresh podcast without the internet Games Workshop hate and vitriol . I have listened for over a year and eagerly await each new episode. The Warhammer 30k coverage is without equal . Thank you gentlemen for a quality product at no cost to any of us ( other than purchases from Forge World inspired by the show).
You guys rock!
I love these guys! I just recently started listening in January and was amazed. They are positive and truly love the hobby for what it is. I'm particularly excited that they are starting to hit on the Horus Heresy side as well. I love also that the episodes are longer so it gives me more listening time while I'm working. Thanks guys!
First off I wanted to write and say thank you for this AMAZING podcast you fine folks put out. I have only been listening for about a month and wow. The amount of positivity that you put out and just general love of the game you have has actually brought me and a buddy back into the game after 6 years. We picked up our codexes this weekend (Tau and Space Marines) and are about to start building armies. Thank you so much for the Podcast and keep up the outstanding work! For the Emporer.
One of my favorites. The audio quality is excellent and there's a good repore between the hosts.
Just finished listening to episodes 42 & 43 these are by far the best episodes I have ever heard for persons wanting to get into this hobby. Great detail of each army from serious points of view, rules, playability, price (points wise and dollar wise), and a "off the cuff" perspective (Dark Eldar=Industrial/EMO). I don't think any other podcast hit all the points that are important for new players or old players looking for a different army to play. I am suggesting this podcast too all I run into!! 4/16/2014 Update: I am convinced that this Podcast should be used as a measure of quality that all other podcasts should be judged, it's that good.
First off, "show of force" is awesome! I'm looking forward to more. Second, everything else is pretty cool too. I listen to the IC's and Overlords while I work, and I can't get enough. You guys overshadow and out do other 40k podcasts with quality entertainment, info and most of all personality. I even enjoy the moments when you are passing around new FW toys and such. Even though the listener has no idea what they look like sometimes, it paints a cool picture of the fact you guys are hanging out, having fun being around each other. Keep it up!
As a newcomer to 40k I appreciate the amount of exposure to the hobby this podcast provides. They cover gameplay, modeling, painting, lore, and every other aspect of the game in a friendly inviting manner. I appreciate their focus on friendly story driven gameplay and their enthusiasim for the hobby in general. Being new to the hobby and the podcast I plan to use Independent Characters as a great resource to get up to speed with this interesting hobby.
I first heard about this podcast when Carl was a guest on the After Ullanor podcast and I thought I would give it a listen. It was definitely a good decision. Carl and his co-hosts do a great job going into detail about 40k and while they generally keep a positive approach they are not afraid to dole out criticism when it is needed.
These guys are really fun to listen to and are very knowledgeable. Just listening makes me want to do more and learn more about 40k. I look forward to hearing more.
One of the better ones out there for people still looking to enjoy the hobby. Positivve and upbeat, perfect for listeining to while painting or driving.
Omg good pad cast. I mein it's not as goud as the latcs but still awsome 5of5!
If you want a family friendly amazing format dynamic duo look no further. This should be the gold standard for 40k podcasts, it has a very smooth format easy transition to new segments and the hosts are perfect for each other. Carl and Justin make you feel a part of their gaming group and they complement each other very well.
No superfluous personal stories, just great coverage of the 40k hobby. My favorite podcast. I would like to hear an episode about hard core competitive players and their insights into the game.
This podcast is wonderful to listen to on the way to work or background noise while painting. The information is insightful, and the sound quality is great. My interest in 40k has been reborn.
Anybody that has been in the 40k hobby for any length of time knows that the online community can really be extreme and often negative. Carl and the rest of the ICs have created a fantastic and welcoming online community that never fails to reminds me of why I love this hobby. Thanks guys and keep up the great work!
The Independent Characters truly sets the bar for 40k podcasts. With a great attitude on gaming and the hobby, wonderful and varied segments featuring almost all of the various realms that 40k encompasses, and active involvement with the community, I have never been more grateful for a podcast. Thanks guys, and keep up the good work!
This is one podcast that is really enjoyable. Whenever I paint my 40k minis, throwing on an old episode is my preferred background noise because the love the hosts (Carl at least) have for 40k is so infectious. It makes my weekend whenever a new episode comes out.
This is a great 40K podcast with out all the mouth-breathing your hear on other podcasts. The quality is great, they stay on point and give thorough reviews and have a little fun (sometimes at their own expense). They have a very refreshing enthusiasm for the hobby without the max/min you see/hear in other podcasts that concentrate on the WAAC style of play.Just started listening around Ep 84 and I'm caught up to current, can't wait for the next episode!
I enjoy several podcasts and all of them ask you to rate and write a review of thier work. This one is so good I'm actually doing it. This is a great podcast. Thoughtful commentary, level headed discussions about current 40k news, and funny and creative stuff throw in altogether in equal measure. There is no shortage of angry/ranty 40k stuff out there. No is there any shortage of I'm a better player than anyone else out there. This isn't that. Carl is so good he doesn't have to tell you how successful he is at 40k. His intelligent discussions and high quality features make this a must-subscribe for any 40k fan. I highly recommend this podcast.
I must say I listen to 40k podcasts regularly and by far The Independent Characters is the podcast I look forward to the most.
I listen to a LOT of podcasts at work (8 hour shifts in a factory). This is one of my all time favorites hands down. Carl loves his hobby and his enthusiasm translates very well over the internet air waves. They guests that the show feature are always a joy and informative as well. Even if you don't play the hobby of Warhammer 40k, the chemistry between the hosts and guests as well as the informative nature of a lot of their shows can be applied to the geek nation as a whole. Keep up the good work guys!
The Independent Characters are my favrite podcast. Even if I have a back log of other podcasts, I will still listen to the IC's first. Good content, OK for chilren to listen too and good sound.
Carl and Geoff do a great job at providing entertaining and informative shows each and every episode. This podcast covers many angles of the 40k hobby. Highly recommended.
I’ve been in and out of the hobby for years now - moving around a lot did a number on time to paint, disrupted what gaming groups I had, etc. I considered it something I “used to do” until I listened to the Independent Characters to pass time on a long drive. They’re great - funny without trying to hard, friendly, approachable - just like the people I’d like to play 40K with. They have, single handedly, reignited my interest in the hobby.
I've been playing 40k on and off for about 10 years, but would have to say that I have only recently really joined the community. About 2 months ago I was talking with a friend of a friend about 40k and he happened to mention that their were podcasts on itunes that I could download in advance to listen to on my 40 minute commute to and from work every day and he recommended that I give IC a shot. That night I downloaded 5 of your episodes along with several other 40k podcasts and I have been hooked since. The IC Podcast was the 1st podcast that I ever listened to and are simply on a different playing field. In Game Terms the IC is a terminator captain with hammer and storm shield, while the rest of the podcasts that I have heard are more like IG blob squads. There are a ton of them, but in the end of the day they simply take up space. The Overloads.co.uk on the other hand is a white scars biker, they are #2 in my book. At this point I have listened through every itunes podcast that you guys have up, have started a Painting KanBanFlow board and am trying to come up with my own fluff for my Nids army (blue) and have become saved money at secretweaponmintures.com using the ICPodcast code. Thanks for the hours and hours of enjoyment and 10% off! x
Been listening for years now and this is one of the most consistent, professional and well thought out show in the 40k community. If you want to show someone the hobby with our best foot forward they should listen to this.
I listen to almost every 40k podcast out there. This is the most polished and professional of them all. Excellent content. Curious how they'll ever replace Jeff.
I listen to a lot of 40k podcasts and this is the only one I eagerly anticipate the next episode. Great topics, interesting points of view and sadly enough probably the only 40k podcast that has a positive outlook on the hobby. I’m tired of listening to nerds complain about rules or prices or bad models. It is so refreshing to hear a bunch of guys talk about what they love about the hobby and the community.
This is in my top 3 40k podcasts right now and is number 1 in the "hobby" department. You get both sides of every debate with very intelligent discussion and ideas that are not insulted by other hosts like on other podcasts. Great for painting or driving!
This podcast is worth listening to if you are in the 40K hobby. I really appreciate the positive attitude taken by Geoff and Carl, and I love the way they look at the hobby, game, and community as a whole.
I really enjoy this podcast. They cover every aspect of the hobby and do it in a friendly fun way. The array of guests is nice, offsetting their opinions (and voices) nicely.
Being in a rural area and working offshore I don't have very many people to discuss 40k with. I was sujested podcast by a gaming buddy from our "local" community and after the first on I haven't turned back. I'm 34 episodes in and looking forward to many more. Being a slightly new player, I get alot of hobby ideas and help from this. I have become much more organized because of this podcast and started setting goals that are very doable and don't overwhelm me. I love the expansion walk throughs and imperial armour reviews. I'm actually thinking of getting a couple because of these reviews. Thanks for giving me my 40k fix when I can't get it at work. Keep it comeing your doing great. Addition: i wrote the above in may when i first started listening and im still happy to report that it hasnt changed. i feel a bit of anticipation toward the changes comeing next year, but im sure carl will be able to fall back on his charisma to keep the gap filled. Geoff is a great assit and will be missed, happy to hear that he will still guest appear. to me he was always the more humble gamer, in that he isnt as luck as carl is yet and still has to get his life in order and shows the side that some of us younger guys are used to. (no offense carl) thanks for all the enjoyment and look forward to many more;
Great podcast to get you in the mood for gaming. I love painting and listening to Carl and Geoff talk about all aspects of 40k. They've definitely made the game more enjoyable for my group of 40k gamers.
Nothing less than 5 stars is acceptable for this beast. Been listening since March 2012. I just wanna know where Carl gets the money to pay for this.
This podcast is a must have. This show is well put together and thought out. The show also is a positive force in the 40k community, I listen to most of the podcasts out there but this has quickly become my favorite.
One of the best podcasts available. These guys always provide high quality content, great editing, and really showcase the best aspects of the gaming community.
This is my favorite podcast. When I listen to Carl and Geoff talk about the hobby, it's like sitting in a room with two of your buddies who are very passionate about the game. These guys always pick great topics that keep you wanting to listen to their next episode. As a hobbiest who really enjoys the modeling and painting aspect of the hobby, I particularly like the "hobby progress" section of the podcast. I actually find myself painting more after hearing about the hobby progress Carl and Geoff have made from podcast to podcast. Keep up the good shows and the great enthusiasm.
Its great to see both sides of the GW community. Those that can afford the hobby and those who can kinda afford the hobby...
Carl, Goeff, I salute you gentlemen! I stumbled into this podacast late in the game sadly, but no I am well and truly hooked. its so great to listen to other 'grown men' that have the same passion for Warhammer 40K that I have. Keep up the great works guys, and thanks again.
Great sound quality, great pacing and editing, very professional. They have a strong focus on the competitive aspects of the game, but don't get bogged down with "this is the only way to be effective" or rely too heavily on mathhammer or theoryhammer. They also strike a great balance between crunch and fluff.
I love these guys! There isn't another 40k podcast out that has so much passion for all aspects of the game. From the hobbying to events and tournaments and back to the collecting side. They do not disappoint. If you could only listen to one, Geoff and Carl are the ones to download.
This is a great podcast with a lot of content. They always have insightful conversations on all things 40K. One thing that differentiates this 40K podcasts from the others is their frequent chats about all thing Forge World and Black Library. I highly recommend this podcast.
By far one of my favorite 40k podcasts. I guarantee that if you like 40 you'll love this show.
Even if they are not always exactly what I'm looking for these are great guys and I enjoy their banter. As fun in person as they are on the podcast.
No other 40K related podcast even comes close to the Independent Characters. Their extremely professional approach and fantastic sound quality are just two of the factors that make this a must listen to every other week. Carl and Geoff have an approach to the hobby that embraces it as a whole and are always searching for way to get more enjoyment out of 40K and then share their discoveries. If you can only listen to one 40K podcast, this is the one you should listen to!
This is the best. Consistently great episodes and consistently uploaded periodically, we look forward to hearing Geoff and Carl while painting or on our daily commute to work. Geoff is the perfect conservative careful hobbiest while Carl is the radical obsessive hobbiest, and together it's fun to hear their professional banter. I would pay for this podcast, but luckily I don't have too! Carl we live vicariously through your advenures, travels and forgeworld purchases keep it up, Geoff we appreciate your thoughtful analysis and purchase planning! Love the old school intro and wrap up commentary in your podcasts, we appreciate all of the effort you put into this the premiere 40k podcast. Carl, we all traveled vicariously with you on your adventure to warhammer world.... Geoff if you ever get a chance to go, it is solo worth it!
Great sound quality and topics ranging from tounaments coverage, hobby, casual gaming, etc. Just watch the Adepticon Final vids can't wait to see the next tournament video coverage. I like the Warrior Lodge segments where they just have a casual round table disscussion about the hobby and 40k. This is easily the one of my top five 40k podcast.
I have enjoyed this podcast for a while now. They do a good job and are able to stay on topic 97% of the time. Simply put they made it to my favorites list and that's no easy task. Keep it up. Chas
The banter is always light hearted and the segments are almost always something I am curious about. Keep up the good work!
I've been playing for a while but not until I listened to this podcast have I had so much more of a focus to become not only a better painter and player, but so many different ideas for campaigns and missions! Carl and Geoff have great banter are fun to listen to and they are so knowledgable and seem to just want everyone to grow to become a better gamer with them! Its been two years since I originally wrote this review and it just keeps getting better and better!!!
These guys put on a great show! Lots of information for veterans and new players alike!
This is a great 40K podcast! I have a long commute to work and I always look forward to the next release. Carl & Geoff take the podcast and subject matter seriously but make you feel right at home no matter your level of experince with the game. Thier passion for the game is felt in their dialog and it is wonderful to hear a gaming podcast without the constant need to use foul language. The sound quality exceeds that of most "professional" podcasts! They both believe and speak to all parts of the hobby which is quite refreshing. The forbidden lore section is quite unique and is a great example of bringing all apsects of the hobby into the discussion. Thank you for all the hard work, long hours and support fromy our families to bring this podcast to the community!
Been listening to this podcast for a while. Format is typical of 40k podcast. What I think makes this podcast above and beyond the rest. First the auido quality is great. The special guests that they get in there segments are also great. Forbiden lore is my favorite. Great podcast keep it up.
The Independent Characters is my favorite Warhammer 40k podcast. I just started playing Warhammer 40k last year and have been collecting and painting miniatures but have only had a chance to play a couple of games so my favorite episodes of The Independent Characters have been Episode 42 & 43 -what army is right for you? I have listened to those 2 episodes a few times to help me figure out what army I would like to play. You really do a good job of explaining about how all the armies work and what is fun about each one. Since then I have started a few different armies :)
This is hands down one of the best 40k pod casts you can listen to! These guys are both amusing and insightful on both the game and the universe of 40k. Ever episode has been worth listening to.
Great show right here! The sound quality destroys every other 40k podcast out there. There is nothing better to listen to while painting than to sit down with an episode of the ICS. They keep things light hearted but keep the episode packed with everything I enjoy in the hobby.
I am fairly new to the 40k podcast world, but have been in the hobby for about a year and a half. I suppose that makes me still fairly new to the hobby as well. That aside, I really have enjoyed Carl and Geoff on the Independent Characters. They often come across much like myself and friends do when sitting around talking about 40k (or other gaming interests.) They are also pretty informative when it comes to new product (their Fall of Orpheus review prompted me to order it.) Great stuff and I look forward to following them for a long time.
Great podcast with lots of interesting topics. Great hosts with a real love of the hobby from all aspects. I have listened to every episode to date and have enjoyed them all, I have even listened to several more than once, not something I can say about any other podcast. Looking forward to more episodes.
Simply one of the best 40k podcasts to listen too!!!
The show as a whole is of a quality that makes you think it is done professionally instead of being just two gamers who threw a mike down to share their thoughts and ideas. The Characters (Geoff and Carl) plan their topics and hold their discussions in a way that makes you feel like you are at the table with them. It is wonderful to hear something that is designed to make the whole gaming hobby more enjoyable and not just talk about how to beat everyone or be a better painter than everyone. Through listening to this podcast I have learned new techniques and have been helped with questions many times. Keep up the excellent work.
I have been listening to a number of 40k podcasts for the past 18 months and "The Independent Characters" is one of my favorites. I especially appreciate that they focus less on the tournament aspects of 40k and highlight the enjoyment of playing the game from a narrative perspective and the hobby as a whole. The sound and production quality is superior to many other podcasts and highlights the authors attention to detail. I recommend the podcast highly.
Fantastic sound quality and a plethora of great topics make this podcast a joy to listen to. Carl and Geoff are both entertaining and have a passion for the 40k hobby and game.
I'm new to Warhammer 40k, but not to wargaming, and this podcast is hands down my favorite. I've yet to actually play 40k, though I've been collecting a Nurgle CSM army since 5th edition, and even still I find the topics they cover entertaining. They make me feel like I'm part of the 40k gaming community, even though I'm just starting out. Great job, guys!
Even though this is primarily a 40k Podcast, these guy are not repetitive. Very insightful and informing, Carl and Geoff take a much more professional approach to the game we all play and love. Concentrating mainly on the hobby aspect of the 41st Millennium. This show is very well structured for the listener who has to break up their time when commuting. Whether you enjoy the energetic enthusiasm of Carl or like me the critical cynicism of Geoff, this podcast has something for everyone. Top notch podcasting.
I can not say enough great things about this show. Taken from a less competitive point of view, this show has great reviews of both army Codices and Imperial Armour books. Carl and Geoff are outstanding hosts, the sound qualitly is great and the content is alway enguaging. Highly recomment this one to everyone interested in 40K!
I just started 40k a few months ago, and listening to this podcast has been a great experience. Listening to their Hobby Progress/Workbench is great, it reminds me that there are people out there who paint just as slow as me! My favorite part is the Warrior Lodge, a general discussion with guests on a relvant topic. Once again, great podcast, i've already reccomended it to my friends.
but it is a hobby, bordering on a lifestyle, that this podcast has embraced. They are great on covering the topics that surround our hobby that are outside the crunch, typically covered by others in the community. Recently it was the 2 parter about running events of different sizes. My favorite thus far was 76, about cheating on your spouse to game. I saw a pic on the FB showing the "widows" and I am hoping they will interview them for an episode, would be fun to hear their thoughts on it all. Geoff and Carl are serious about keeping this fun, light hearted, and on track.
This was the first podcast i found when i started playing warhammer 40k. It was the enabler to continue my addiction! Thank you, for the hobby tips and book reviews.
I've been listening to many 40k podcasts for more than a couple years now and I must say that the Independent Characters tops them all. While many of the offerings out there offer different flavors of 40k, the IC podcast delivers helpful, detailed information, reviews, and ideas that can enhance any hobbyist's game. The IC podcast focuses mainly on narrative and friendly play in contrast to the hardcore power-gamer tournament scene, but even power gamers can learn some things listening to Carl and Geoff. They discuss current events in the hobby, black library books, and review new products. Even though they don't follow the tournament style of play, they do have plenty of episodes that discuss how to run tournaments, special narrative events, and even recruit gamers into your circle. Outside of the content, the podcast is beautifully edited and the hosts/guests do a magnificent job at keeping the pace. Content is appropriate for any audience and is often witty and makes me laugh. They are true gamers. Give it a listen and enjoy!
I listen to a lot of 40K podcasts, and the Independent Characters is one of my favorites. Carl & Geoff present a professional-quality podcast that is both well-produced and informative. Carl's boundless enthusiasm for the hobby comes through plainly and is balanced with Geoff's more restrained take on things. Keep up the good work!
It's great to hear a different kind of 40k podcast that focuses on the narrative aspects instead of tournament play. It has inspired me to run my own campaigns and narrative events.
They do great reviews of Forge World books! They might not do codex reviews, but if you listen enough, they will basically do most of it while talking. They make you feel welcome into their group as well. The best part is... They have a Facebook page!
These guys do a great job and regardless of the topic are always interesting and funny. I listen to a ton of Podcasts of various genres and this is definitely one of my favorites. Keep up the good work!
Although I had nothing to compare them to in the beginning, they sounded just like a Radio station. Now that I follow 10+ podcasts, the boys over at the IC's still hold the top spot for me. Accurate and filled with awesome interviews, reviews, and more. I couldn't recommend these guys more.
Plenty of good information combined with just enough levity!!
What I like about this podcast is that they focus mostly on 40k rather than spending copious amounts of time on random games that I'm not that interested in.
This is a fantastic 40k podcast, you can clearly hear these guys are friend who clearly love 40k and the lore. The show is also has a level of finish you don't see in many of the 40k podcasts, they clearly take the time to edit the show to keep on point. Other features like their Forbidden Lore "book club" type book reviews, as well as their in-depth reviews of the Imperial Armour books are fantastic. it's great to listen to while driving or painting; and it really keeps you interest in the game going while you're trying to power though those last 10 (or 30) models that need painting.
I've been listening to The Independent Characters podcast for a little over a year now and I still find it tremendously entertaining and informative. Carl and Geoff really manage to be both informative and entertaining for the entire length of each episode. Topics are well chosen and researched, reference information is usually close at hand and the show never seems wooden or rehearsed. I can't recommend this show enough if you are a fan of Games Workshop, Warhammer 40K, or entertaining, enthusiastic podcast hosts. I look forward to every episode and don't even skip the brief commercials. Download this podcast and give it a shot right now, you won't regret it.
This is an excellent show. It's great to feel involved in the hosts hobby and excellent listening while painting. I especially recommend the imperial armor book reviews, these guys really REALLY know their forge world. Thanks for the awesome entertainment guys
I congratulate you on your endeavor to bring the listener into your gaming group. I feel that you've nailed it and I'm somewhat jealous that I'm not nearby. Keep up the good work.
I was pointed to the Independent Characters by a friend across the country, and at first listen I knew I was hooked. Carl and Geoff's general positivity and emphasis on playing an enjoyable game above thrashing your gaming buddies is right up my alley. They are both fun and intelligent, which makes them a real pleasure to listen to on the regular. Listening to this podcast every two weeks is reminiscent of spending a good post-game hangout with my friends. The sound quality is a treat and the show topics are always intriguing and well covered. As someone who did a weekly column for years, I know how tough it can be to come up with solid and current discussion topics all the time. Plus, as an added bonus, the IC forums are inspiring in the painting/modeling/hobby progress sections and full of good people throughout.
I look forward to each of your episodes. Very informative and love the banter above all. Whats a gaming group without hassling each other a bit? Especially like the additional input on hosting events as have been the lead charge in doing so at my FLGS. Keep up the great work.
this here podcast be tastier than leftover pickle juice! i only listen to i.c. and overlords, errrthing else be wasted space.
This podcast is amazing. I see why you guys were up for an award. The audio quality is very good, content is also very good. Thank you for creating this and making my commute entertaining. -George
The gents from this show continue to improve thier tecnique of broadcasting and do a fantastic job keeping me comming back for each show. The more I listen, the longer I wish the shows were.. Thanks Guys for keeping me company while I build and paint.
Unlike many, many other Warhammer 40K podcasts, the hosts of this podcast are adult and mature, and don't seem stuck in junior high with their on-air antics. The content is good, the hosts are amusing, and though I don't get to play 40K, I enjoy it.
The Independent Characters provides great content in a well mastered format. Their recording quality is the best of dozens of other podcasts that I have listened to. Their content provides a superb balance between 40k fluff, gaming mechanics, the tournament scene, gaming industry interviews, 40k gaming news, and the general 40k "meta". I look forward to it every month!
This is a great podcast to listen to while getting some painting done. I just started listening to 40k podcast and the IC was the first one I listened to. It's great to hear you guys talk about topics that are not just tactics or other power gaming topics. Carl has got me want to buy all the products on Forge World, which they need to add in some White Scars brass etch. But keep the podcast coming, I got plenty more models to paint so much podcast are needed!
I've been listening to 40k pioodcasts for a while now. The first one I checked out was The Independent Characters, and out of all the various programs I have listened to, TICs is still my favorite. The guys do a great job hosting, don't talk over each other excessively (a problem with other podcasts), and they present a balanced set of topics for discussion. It's not all competetive talk, and it's not all fluffy-bunny. Keep up the great work, guys.
Despite the title of the review, I think there is probably a lot here for any 40k player, but the focus is definitely and thankfully on those of us playing for fun. Many reviews have covered the professionalism and quality of The Independent Characters. I would also like to compliment the guys on the breadth of subjects they tackle: this is truly a hobbyist's podcast and not simply a discussion of how to eek out advantage from the latest codex or list to hit the tournament scene. Excellent stuff!
What does the title of this review mean? It means that the hosts of the Independent Characters podcast, Carl and Geoff, come across as 'my friends'. The easy interaction between the hosts and any of the multiple guests they have on from time to time, reminds me of the way I interact with my friends. Carl and Geoff welcome you into the podcast and they treat their listeners as their friends, talking about a hobby we all enjoy and devote much time to. The tone of the podcast is comforting and inviting. Carl and Geoff come across as humble and more than any other podcast, they present themselves as 'real people' who just happen to have a podcast about a game they enjoy playing. I find that when I watch shows on TV, the shows I enjoy the most are those where the host comes across as someone I would enjoy spending time with. Carl and Geoff are two people that I would enjoy spending time with playing 40k. The Independent Characters is a shining example of what the Warhammer 40K hobby is all about and I can think of no two better ambassadors for this hobby of ours than Carl and Geoff, the Independent Characters.
The independent Characters is a 40k podcast on a tier of it's own. The hosts, Carl and Geoff Are a great pair, And play very well off of each other. Carl is unabashedly excited, and silly, Whereas Geoff plays the straight man. These two are a pleasure to listen to, And their passion shows in the product they put out there. Every episode leaves me reaching for the paintbrush, or dice, Inspired about the subjects they discuss. These subjects encompass every facet of the hobby, from painting, to "cheating on your wife" with the game. A podcast like this is worth it's weight in gold. Well, it would be if it actually weighed anything. Five out of Five.
The Independent Characters is literally the best 40k podcast out there...literally.
Sound quality is great, topics are interesting, all around a great 40k podcast. Update: This podcast just keeps getting better, the production quality is out of this world. The time and prep that goes into each episode is insane. The interviews they get with authors and other people in the hobby is just first class. It is a must listen to anyone in the hobby. Thank you so much for your hard work.
For anyone familiar with excellence in gaming podcasts, I would submit that The Independent Characters is "The Instance" of the 40K podcast community. Carl and Geoff have excellent chemistry and complement each other well in terms of both game and fluff preferences. More than anything else, this podcast simply oozes effort and preparation - every show is consistently formatted, structured and paced well. The Warrior Lodge, for example, is the most useful and interesting group discussion among the 40K podcasts, precisely because Carl keeps the discussion moving, has a clear agenda ahead of time and mature, informed guests. By contrast, many of the other 40K podcasts have members coming in over itinerant Skype calls, talking over each other, litanies of profane humor, rambling diatribes and worst of all, reek of of that peculiar, 20-something testosterone-infused peacocking. Carl and Geoff never fall into those sloppy, untended mistakes. Listen to the IC podcast: there are certainly other, quality 40K podcasts but none are better.
Absolutely the best 40k podcast for staying inspired in the hobby. It's the only 40k podcast I still listen to. Thanks guys!
Great show guys I love it. I listen to every new show while driving at work. You guys keep me laughing and I'm learning quite a bit about the hobby at the same time. My only criticism is that sometimes your mics can be a little low. It gets hard to hear at times, even thru headphones. Tell Jeff to keep the progress going. And Carl, you get one more London plug and then let it go. We get it you had a great trip. But really keep up the great show!!
IC podcast is my favorite 40k podcast. The content is great and I am always extremely happy with the great editing and sound quality.
I listen to about a dozen WH40K and Warmachine podcasts. These guys consistently produce podcasts worth listening too.
These podcasts seem to address exactly what we are going through with our gaming group. Definitely fun and informative.
Great entertainment. The show is centered around providing a positive upbeat view on the 40k community. They provide advice and insight into all aspects of the hobby. Best part is their book reviews with the actual authors.
Host are insightful and professional. The production quality is high. This is now my go to podcast on 40k. I have listened to several and now I don't. The Independent characters have raised the bar. Keep up the good work. Listen to ep 49. if you don't laugh so hard you want to cry then you are dead on the inside… or you don't play 40k…. maybe the same thing.
Good audio quality and engineering. Interesting conversation all around!
Great, professional podcast with a variety of quality segments and guests. Keep up the great work guys!
I have only listened to three episodes and I have to say I am impressed. Your review of imperial armour 12 prompted me to buy the book. I also enjoyed your last podcast on running events. Very cool and keep up the great work.
Great podcast. They make me proud to be a Bay Area hammer head. Show content is top notch and I love the on air chemistry. They also shop were I make most of my 40K purchases. Game Kastle Santa Clara.
Thanks for the fantastic podcast! I look forward to each episode and enjoy listening to what each of you have to say about the hobby.
This podcast is the standard by which all other 40k podcasts are judged for myself, and indeed others. A great podcast for those with any variation of interest in the hobby.
This is a really great podcast. I started off listening to 40K Radio, but Independent Characters is far superior and is my main 40K podcast now.
The most unique 40k podcast of all. Rather than just read through every codex and talk about how awesome or crappy they are, they choose a subject and go over it in depth. From starting a game group, to running a campain, a lot of their topics apply to other games as well. Also having a strong hobby focus they are inspiring to get your army painted. If you are only goint to listen to one hobby podcast, this should be it.
I listen to a couple different 40k podcasts, but this is by far my favorite one. They talk about everything from the hobby aspect to the lore attributed to the game. While i might not read the books that they read for the "Forbidden Lore" segment, the reviews of the book are still worth while. I would recommend this to anyone looking to get into the hobby and who wanted to know more about it.
This podcast is informative, funny and covers the many different issues with 40K gaming. They offer indepth review of Imperial Armour books. Also Carl and Geoff really want to make the 40K community grow, and are helpful. They are great people trying to make the world a funny and 40Kerfic place. Thank you very much for all of your hard work Carl and Geoff.
I've listened to about 10 episodes so far. It is obvious that a lot of work goes into each one. The content is A+, the quality of the recordings is great and the show personalities are enjoyable. Keep them coming.
This show is single handedly responsible for reinvigorating my intrest in 40k. My brother came across it a couple of years ago and Cal and Geoff managed to motivate me to dust of the mostly unpainted army I had started collecting a few years prior and actually get into the game. They consistently deliver a great show with high production values, enthusiastic hosts, as well as interesting and inspiring topics. Though I don't get to play a lot of 40k, they keep me interested in the hobby and are one of my main ways to get involved in the online community. Keep up the great work guys!
The I.C. was one of the first 40k hobby podcasts I came across. I've listened to others, but I still get excited when they come out with a new podcast. Whatever job Carl has I want, as it seems to give him an infinite supply of money and time to buy and build things. Oh, and I want to move to the West Coast so I can participate in all these awesome tournaments and such they play in. Great show, very informative, and very unbiased. They're not afraid to call GW out on things.
Listening to Carl and Geoff is kinda like listening to your gaming buds talk about stuff. I find it really relaxing and enjoyable while I'm in the hobby room painting or other stuff. Carl seems to have an unending supply of money, so he buys all the things I want to buy and reviews them, either on purpose or just drive-by. Really helps me narrow down the things I do buy. Thankfully, Geoff keeps everything on an even keel, lol. They cover great, interesting topics as well. More than once I have gone to the archives to find their take on something. You won't go wrong listening to these guys!
Thanks Carl, now i want to go to England. Sounded like a blast. Thank you IC for all of your hard work.
The quality and content of this show and the hosts have brought be back to 40k and the new edition.
I have listened to just about every other 40k podcast and The Independent Characters are in a league of their own. They don't just set the bar, they are above it by a mile! Not just for a 40k podcast, but for ANY podcast. The rapport between the two hosts is fantastic. The cheerful demeanor of Carl sets itself perfectly against grumpy ol' Geoff. ;) These two have figured out 40k isn't just about list building and tournament grinding. They are very into the fluff and play games for enjoyment, on both sides of the table! I'm pretty jealous of their gaming group and the great stories that come out of them. The only reason you shouldn't listen to this podcast is because it will make the rest of them sound mundane and sub-par. Keep up the good work guys! PS. When's the Battlefleet Gothic review episode coming?
This is the premier 40k podcast, if you only listen to 1 40k podcast this has to be the one. They cover the whole breadth of the hobby including competitive play, modeling, fiction, and do a great job at making it feel as if you are part of their gaming group. They keep the podcasts to a respectable amount of time and not pound you with to many 4 or 5 hour podcasts. Carl and Geoff thank you for an outstanding podcast and really keeping us in your group. Ryan aka Kingsfan.
Great show. Very informative and entertaining. 40k radio just wasn't the same since the old crew split up, so I'm so glad I found this show to fill the lonesome void in my life lol.
I've listened to a number of podcasts about 40k before, and for one reason or another, they tend to disappoint. The Independent Characters are the most professional, well-edited, and enjoyable podcast I've ever listened to, and listening to their show makes you feel like part of their gaming group. Their opinions and insight always prove interesting, and they have a good sense of humor that never takes them too far off-topic. I can't recommend them enough!
I don't listen to a lot of podcasts (in fact I only ever found three that I enjoyed) but IC is one of them. I can't say I listen to all of them or even most but when I do they are good shows. Keep up the good work.
If you only listen to one podcast about Warhammer 40,000, look no further than The Independent Characters. They are a whole-hobby podcast which is dedicated to quality content. They are positive, yet realistic. Their shows are highly polished and professional, yet they aren't dry. The chemistry is fun and sometimes jokingly confrontational between the hosts who are, fortunately, quite different in their approaches to the hobby. This, along with frequent guest hosts, keeps the shows fresh and lends credibility to the content. You won't regret giving The Independent Characters a try.
Oe of the few 40k podcasts worth listening to.
I've listened to most, if not all, of the 40k podcasts out there. This is one of the few still on my list. So many others are negative, rant-filled, WAAC tactic experiences. Carl and Geoff (and their guests) are the polar opposite of this. This is one of the few 40k podcasts I still listen to, and it is usually on the top of the list (but don't get lazy, I just found Second Founding and it's pretty solid.) Keep up the good work
I started listening to these guys last year and they kick started my interest to start back up in the hobby. The IC's podcast is like sitting around with you gaming buddies talking hobby. These guys focus on all aspects of the hobby, from painting and modeling to playing games and campaigns, even all the way up to organizing and running your own events. Carl and Geoff aren't too hardcore about playing competitively so you never get the feeling that you can be intimidated, which I think is a really good thing for newer players, or like myself, returning players. Awesome show, keep up the great work. Maybe one day I'll be able to play on a zone mortals board ;D
My favorite 40k podcast by far. Extremely well produced. Sound quality, topics, show structure, and hosts are all top notch. Interesting interviews with authors and 3rd party companies. When my model painting motivation runs low throwing on the IC always gets me going again.
I listen to a bunch of podcasts about a variety of topics, and this is easily my favorite 40k podcast (and may be my favorite *gaming* podcast altogether). Carl and Geoff love the hobby, and it shows. Not only do they go into depth about what they've been doing recently in 40k, their reviews of the offerings from Forge World make me wish that my gaming budget was much higher than it really is. There are a lot of sites and podcasts out there that just cover news or upcoming products, but this is the podcast that I listen to when I want to just immerse myself in why I love the hobby.
There are a few other podcasts that I've tried, but none provide the production quality, quality of content, and regularity that the Indepandent Characters provide. -Easy Ed
Str-9, Ap-2 These guys are the standard by which the rest of the 40k pod casts are measured.
If you love 40k... this is your Podcast. Great topics and when they get off topic they are usually still about 40k. I can listen to this all day long.
This podcast is worth listening to. Always informative and helpful, and family friendly too.
These guys are really fun to listen to! They really know their stuff. And really go into some place in the hobby others don't. Really enjoyed the tips they had for running an event recently! Keep up the great job guys!
This is by far one of the best wargaming podcasts ever - you guys have made the hobby worth coming back to after a 10 year break. Keep up the great work!
if you have any interest in Warhammer 40k be it the game, hobby, or lore this podcast is for you! I only recently was able to get back into the hobby and this podcast paired with the wonderful guys over at miniwargaming have given me all the encouragement and thoughtful talk I need to really get going and start working on my Orks. Thanks guys :D
The Independant Characters remains my favorite podcast related to gaming. Whenever I start to flag a bit working on projects, listening to Geoff and Carl gives me that extra bit of energy and drive. Thanks guys. I probably wouldn't be trying to open a Hobby Store if it weren't for you guys.
This is by far my favorite podcast! They have great content and personalities. A must listem to anyone who is interested in 40k and Forge World. Also they have a Facebook page!
One of the best Podcasts that i have heard so far!
all 40k all the time great show from the first show. give them a listen
This is a great podcast for the 40k hobby. The hosts are great and are very knowledgable in their topics and bring great points of view. They also have a Facebook page!!!
After listening to many different 40K podcasts for the past 6 months. The sound quality is top notch, and the format for the show is great to listen to.I have consistantly enjoyed the content this team brings to the show. This is by far the most inspirational show that I have listened to I have loved the explanation of the total hobby not just lists and other strategy. I cant wait to hear more.
Carl and Geoff and thier constant guests are great a bringing the true joys of the hobby to all 40k enthusiasts around the world. If great production, good natured humor, and a show about what 40k can be when you work to build up a great community wether its painting, tournaments, or just working on making a funner game is what you are looking for. Thats right here!
This podcast has a well organized format with interesting topics. They also buy so much 40k stuff it makes me feel less worried about the money I spend on the hobby.
These guys have great synergy and cover a wide variety of topics. It's always fun to listen!
The IC's has really grown on me the more I get into modeling and playing tabletop games. They're definitely all about the hobby, and I'm pretty sure Carl spends more money on this hobby than any other human being in existence. lol I was a bit put off at first because it can at times feel a bit commercial, and slightly overhyped about the "elite gamer" etc. They play it safe, and always end up pushing the latest product, but I suppose that's better than always having something negative to say. Still looking for that opinion with the right balance that fits my sensibilities, but it's probably a dream that'll never be realized. At the end of the day, it's quality discussion of the hobby and the products coming out, which is always enjoyable to listen to. Don't be dissuaded if it doesn't feel quite right at first. Just keep listening and you'll end up looking forward to the next episode
I'm glad I found this podcast. I have been in this hobbie for a bit and not having ever played a game I find my self wanting to find a place to play so I can be that more into it. I thank you for that your show has given me laughs and a strive to push myself to get my army painted more then it is. Thanks again.
I've listened to and thoroughly enjoyed every episode; Thanks for the hours of great entertainment!
As someone who recently got into 40k I decided to try out a large number of podcasts to see what everyone was saying about the game. Of all the ones listed on Itunes, the guys at IC are my favorite. They deliver a crisp and clean (meaning very edited) show, they stay on topic and always have interesting to talk about. In addition to that, they are very insightful to the game and never lose focus that there are always new players out there. Whenever a new 40k player comes into my local game shop, I always suggest checking out a few episodes of the IC, namely, the "Choosing an Army" episode. Keep it up guys, and thanks for everthing!
One of the very best 40k podcasts out there! there topics are always intersting and far different from what you will find from other 40k podcasts and the sound quailty is very good.
I've been a regular listener since around episode 40. The Independent Characters represent the best of the best in the Warhammer 40K hobby. From the production values of the podcast, to the subjects discussed they rise above all the other noise out there. If you visit their webpage and forums, you will notice that the Independent Characters attract the best painters, the best terrain builders, the best campaign organizers. Quite simply, they attract the best people that the hobby has to offer and as a community, they welcome everybody that stops by. Instead of showing off unbelieveably high standards of hobby skill, much effort is taken to raise everyone up to attain those same levels of excellence, regardless of skill level started with.
This podcast got me interested in liestening to wargaming padocasts in general. Always great conversation between Geoff and Carl. Full of great news and hobby tips. Really enjoy the imperial armour reviews.
I just found this fantastic podcast! It is a bit longish for me, but the passion these guys have for 40k is infectuous. Carl is so friendly and easy going, what a cool guy. Geoff is a little rough around the edges but I wouldn't have it any other way. They know their stuff and their differing personalities play so well against each other. Thank you for this podcast!
There's a lot of 40k podcasts popping up, but this is one of the best ones out there. High quality sound(which is surprisingly lacking on most podcasts), stay on topic(another surprisingly lacking trait of many podcasts) and interesting host personalities. The excitement and enthusiasm that they approach topics with is refreshing. Also the hosts are a great juxtaposition to each other from a hobby perspective, Geoff is more like the average hobbyist, plays and hobbys when he has time where Carl is more like the ultimate hobbyist; with his recent trip to Warhammer world, house full of forge world stuff, and always picking up a new army. In general the podcast is very informative and lots of fun to listen to! I highly recommend it!
If you're tired of hearing about the greatest list that will win you tournaments and just want to hear conversation from guys who genuinely love the game and everything that concerns it - welcome home. The Independent Characters will amuse and entertain you for hours every month and you'll quickly feel like a member of their group. I'm happy I them and I've turned on every like-minded 40k gamer I know to this podcast.
After a terribly long absence from gaming, I felt the need to get a feel for 40K and 6th Ed. These folks drive me to be a better gamer/hobbiest. Excellent blend of fact, opinion, humor, intelligence, and maturity.
This is my favorite 40k podcast. While other more specialized podcasts may better serve you if you are looking for one thing (laughs, tactics, lore, etc), IC provides a nice mix of it all. The production is well done, and unlike many other podcasts the sound is compressed (no deafening outbursts of laughter) and the hosts aren't skyping each other.
I have recently stated listening to you guys and it is awesome! I love the banter and how the show flows. Great work guys, I would love to play a game with you guys!
I absolutely love this podcast. Sound quality is amazing and you guys are hilarious. Its refreshing to listen to a podcast thats not all about "whats the top tier army to smash faces in with?". Keep up the awesome work you guys!
As a rule this podcast is a lot of fun for getting your 40K fix. The IA reviews are great listens and they are a great hobbying and fluff podcast. I always listen and I'm rarely disapointed.
Having moved recently and not having found any new gaming/hobby group in my new area I started to listen to these guys! Aside from knowing a whole lot about the hobby they make a great short term replacement and are always worth listening to! You guys are my new painting buddies!!
Hands down the best 40k related podcast out there. The ICs are always worth a listen. From gaming and painting to the tournament scene and fluff, these guys know their stuff. Carl and Geoff are always ahead of the curve, except when it comes to their hobby progress commitments. If you have some time to kill and you play 40k, you should be listening.
Been listening for a while, these guys are great at podcasting. They do their homework and produce an excellent product. If I could only follow one 40k podcast, it would be the ICs.
I'm new to the hobby and have learned a lot from this podcast and always look forward to a new episode. Keep them coming.
Ok, I've listened to a large amount of podcasts over the years, and only a few have withstood the test of time where I'll go back and re-listen. This is one of those podcasts. Great work guys! I love that you're always improving sound quality and trying to make the show better. Thanks for all the awesome news and entertainment!
These guys have it down. A little bit of back and forth, a whole lot of constructive critisizm in the manner of bashing eachother, and just the right amount of 40K information to keep me coming back. I just wish there were more and frequent releases of this podcast.
I like this podcast because they have a great show structure. Each episode has 2 opening segments where the hosts talk about progress on their armies and the games they have played. Then they get into a main topic which varies and it is connected to the 40k universe. Typically it is a very good topic and tends to flow with current events in the hobby and they try to keep it diverse between shows. Other segments they will put in at the end include talking about black library books and they also have a round table discussion called the warrior lodge where players talk about various mini topics. The main hosts Geoff and Carl do a very good job. On some occasions they have a guest host. Some of their best episodes are ones with a guest host as the 3 way design flows very well instead of just having a back and forth with 2 hosts. They keep the content PG-13ish without being over hard on their language but not going too far to be watered down to something you might see on the Disney Channel. For improvement they could work on having intro audio before segments and maybe add in audio or soundboard sounds during the show, this higher level of production would just raise them far and above other gaming podcasts and put them on the level of professional radio. Although they focus on 40k I think they could probably include some WHFB more and not try to hate on it as much which creates a barrier between systems as many listeners and potential new ones do play and enjoy both systems. Overall one of the best warhammer 40k podcasts and I highly recommend it. They have a Facebook page and probably a secret shrine to Phil Kelly (6s be on him).
As a new player to the 40k gaming universe i can't recommend this podcast enough to new and old players alike. Their episodes on the different armies is intensive. add the humor and you have a great and fun to listen to
I've finally caught up on the last two years that I've missed and thoroughly enjoying the podcast. Please keep it going.
I love this podcast! Karl and Geoff are great hosts and always have something great going on. They often have special guests for their forbidden lore segment which I love the most! Their sense of humor is spot on. HEY LEONARD!
Really well produced cast, with good content. I swear I've heard Carl's voice on NPR, he could give IRA Glass a run for his money.
Fanastic 'cast with a fantastic cast. I really enjoy the fact that they are clean. I can let them play while painting and not worry about expaining any bad words to my kids. You can tell they love the hobby in all of its aspects.
The Independent Characters sets a very high bar for Warhammer 40K podcasts! I really appreciate their professionalism in a category flooded with adult men acting like 13 year old boys making the typical juvenile jokes. They separate themselves from the pack through their focus on creative ingenuity and solid content. The IC podcast has enriched my W40K experience through interviews with authors, segments about terrain and other hobby related aspects, reviews of GW products, the list goes on. Thanks Carl and Geoff for showing everyone what a gaming podcast can be!
I just started collecting a Warhammer 40K army with the intention of entering my local gaming scene. Carl and Geoff has been a fantastic in helping me understand the rules and other aspects of the hobby. Keep it up, guys!!
Just getting into 40K but the Horus Heresy FW Betrayal book review (2 parts) hooked me in deep. Just the perfect blend of review and fandom without just blathering into a mic. I'm learning a lot about 40K. Keep it up!
Absolutely fantastic 40k podcast. Well produced with a well rounded approach to the hobby.
The most polished 40K podcast in my opinion.
This is one of, if not the, best 40k podcasts out there. Everything about it is about as top-notch and professional as you can get, and the hosts are genuinely engaging, entertaining, and enjoyable to listen to. Seriously, these are the guys that I wish my local hobby stores were filled with.
wonderful podcast, great group of guys to listen to. these guys are one of the reasons I'm getting back into the hobby
These guys are pretty funny. The show is less tourney based and more practical for fun with your friends. I love how they review game products and novels, they're like, my friends if they had a podcast.
Like the Turn 8 podcast, the IC podcast puts a lot of time and thought into making a quality production, which is a huge breath of fresh air from most podcasts that just turn on a mic and record their somewhat tangential, but mostly random, blurted opinions. Keep up the great work guys!
When it comes to 40k podcasts, the Independent Characters take the cake hands down. These guys cover everything under the 40k sun and do so consistently with both humor and passion. They have set the bar high and will be a tough act for other podcasts to follow. I've had the pleasure of both meeting and playing games with Geoff and Carl, and I have to say that these are some truly great guys! Not only do they spread the good word across the interwebz, but they are also dedicated to the continued growth and enjoyment of our local community. Keep it up fellas!
This show is my favorite 40k podcast by far! Intelligent, informative, and fun! Please keep up the good work, guys!
Warning: Listening to the Independent Characters will cause a serious case of Archive Binge! I started listening a few months ago during a long commute and while painting/hobbying, and the end result was an iPod filled with nearly 30 older episodes to work my way trough. Unlike other podcast hosts who seem to endlessly talk about their battles fought with either Space Wolves, Blood Angels, or Grey Knights, OR talk for an hour on their latest attempt to rules-lawyer an OMGWTF WAAC RAW FOTM army list or tactic, the Independent Characters deliver varied programing. They've done Forgeworld reviews, expansion reviews, delved into the true costs of 40k and how to bring 40k into your home, and even covered Adepticon. Only bother downloading those OTHER 40k podcasts (except, of course, the Overlords) once you've listended to all these.
These guys do a great job. Every episode is executed well and very insightful. I never miss one!
If you are looking for an excellently executed podcast you can stop here and take a listen. Unlike many other podcasts the crew manning the 'boiler room' are always up beat and know how to have fun in a family friendly manner. Occasionally they lapse into off topic conversations, but they are almost always within the realm of 40k as well. The content is absolutely fantastic as the hosts always seem to be prepared for whatever topic is up for discussion and even when thrown a curveball by an unexpected question they are logical and intelligent in how they go around answering it in a way that really deepens my understanding of the hobby. Which brings me to their focus upon the hobby as a whole. Some podcasts like to focus upon tactics, some discuss the lore, others like to whine and complain and do almost nothing else. Just about all parts of the package for 40k is included, from modelling tips and discussions to advice on tactics to reviews of the latest piece of fiction from Forge World or Black Library. This podcast brings a positive atmosphere with them to the mics in a way that many others used to have but lost. Listening to the audio files by this group is always a pleasure and leaves me knowing that my time was well spent and imbuing in me a love of the hobby that often cannot be found anywhere but with these guys. And perhaps the best part of this podcast is its accessibility, at least to the hosts of the show. Constantly on their facebook page (which is mentioned frequently), watching their forums, or emailing listeners these guys are fun to talk with and are just as knowledgable off of the mic as on it. Perhaps one of the greatest parts of this communication is also the newly added utilization of Zello, which as Geoffrey said turns your smart phone into a walkie talkie. I have talked with Carl several times through this medium (though Zak has yet to make an appearance while I am there) and Geoffrey is present often though he is reluctant to say anything. One of the most important parts of this podcast, at least to me, is their genuine effort to help others out and bring this tiny community together. Zello is a great tool that has allowed me to talk with people from the UK to California and it would work just fine with people in Australia or Asia as well if I was awake at the same time. I would highly recommend to anyone that has even an inkling of interest in 40k to listen to this podcast, you will find something you like in each episode and always end it happier and enlightened from the wisdom that the Church of Kelly's grandest prophets impart to us lucky souls. Good job with everything that you have done so far guys and keep up the good work and amazing quality!
i started listening to this podcast when i started playing warhammer 40k. I listen on the way to school and on he way back home.I am a complete newb to the game and have found their podcast incredible enlightning. they cover everything in the game with comedy and knowledge. If you dont know what army you want to play they have 2 episodes with background on all the codex armies. whcih covers the fluff and special rules for each They also cover the imperial armours expansions from forge world. If you new or a experienced player this podcast is right for you
This podcast has made me excited to get into the hobby again. Great conversations; super interesting and good flowing exchange of ideas.
I am a big fan of this podcast. The discussions on all aspects of the hobby and gaming are spot on. I find myself motivated to get back to painting my models after listening to an episode. Keep up the good work.
Carl and Geoff actually play the game, and actually talk about the game and hobby! Each podcast has a direct segment that follows through from week to week, where they talk about 40K in each segment, they do special guests including actual writers from Games Workshop! It's intelligent, it's fun to listen to, and it makes me really regret living out in the middle of nowhere because these are the guys I want to play with! When talking about rules they don't jump to conclusions they look at both sides of why people are complaining, they'll never tell you that your army list is wrong, they are honestly the coolest gamers out there. If you've tried listening to other podcasts about 40K, like I have, you are undoubtedly concerned about the content. They actually cram the 2+ hours every other week with 40K content and ONLY 40K content. Other podcasts are not worth listening to, but these guys really are.
The Independent Characters podcast is the best Warhammer 40,000 podcast I have listened to. As a podcast they hit all the marks with excellent sound and production quality. The hosts are intelligent, funny and entertaining. Each episode has quality 40K content that will increase your enjoyment of the hobby. If you play 40K listen today!
This is by far my favorite 40k podcast. Very well done. You can tell that the guys genuinely enjoy the hobby. There are few podcasts on 40k as well rounded as this one. They really go in depth with all aspects of the hobby. This isn't just about game play, or painting, or anything else. It is about the complete hobby. Keeping the same quality throughout their coverage of all aspects of the hobby is impressive and in my opinion has made this podcast a must listen for any 40k fan.
i was done with the 40k hobby but listening to these guys got me back into it... so for good or evil (most likely good) . i then got inspierd to start a tyranids army thanks to the hobby progress challenge, and im now getting the bug for a narritive campaign and playing 40k. thank you guys so much for your hard work, keep it up!!!!!
Always a joy to listen. I appreciate the focus being spread on hobby, gaming and some community. Keep up the great work!!!
These guys are great, and this podcast is a must for all 40k fans. The hosts compliment each other well, and have a great relationship, both in thier interaction, banter, and simple podcasting skills. Fans of podcasts will be aware of how frustrating it is when hosts dont mesh well, or talk over each other for example, and the IC guys manage to be informative, friendly, and proffesional. Good editing, combined with interesting hosts mean that id listen to these guys no matter what subject they podcasted about. Seriously, give them a try (plus the long shows are great for listening to while you hobby, but are broken into perfectly spaced segments for those who dont have several hour blocks) - AlaskanFrog
Great sound quality. Great segments that are fun to listen to. They don't get bogged down talking about so many nitty gritty details that the listener tunes out, which I appreciate. Just enough detail to bring you into any topic they cover, even if it's completely new information. Great commentary on events. Absolutely a must listen if you like 40k. Likable hosts and even the minimal sponsor mentions don't take over the show. Keep up the great work, guys!
Easily the most well thought out and structured 40k podcast out there. You really don't appreciate just how well these guys do until you listen to the other big 40k shows. Good attention to sound quality and the hosts don't argue and interrupt each other (imagine that). Been listening for over a year and it keeps getting better. Good job fellas.
I really do love this show, I have absolutely nothing bad to say about it. I've started reading the Horus Heresy series, and have started investing more time in my painting, both because of Independent Characters.
Great podcasting! Good Warhammer ideas, feedback, experiences and advice. Good conversational style. A good listen during (too many) hours of painting.
The Independent Characters is hands down THE best 40K podcast around. Where else can you find 4 hour long shows, focused content, prepared hosts, and great personalities? These guys are truly passionate about the hobby and game and it shows in every episode. Not only are the shows consistent in quality, you never get the feeling a show is out of date. I started listening around 23 and now I'm at 40 something… I want to go back to episode 1 and start over.
This is, far and away, my favorite podcast. Listening to this show always inspires me to paint. I even have my wife download the show, put it on a thumb drive, and mail it to me so I can listen to it in Afghanistan. Keep up the awesome work!
I really enjoy the show keep up the good work guys. After hearing your show I started a hobby progress report with my friends via email, it really made painting and modeling more enjoyable seeing the different stages in their molding and painting. Thanks again you guys make my work day go by much faster :)
I do a lot of driving. Carl and Geoff(alphabetically listed) create my favorite podcast to listen to while doing so!!
This is the pod cast that refuled my passion for the hobby. I listen all day at work, past and current eps, and love it. The info, the comedy and love they have when talking about battle reports its pure win. Joined up on the forums tonight!!
This is my 40k Podcast. This is THE 40k Podcast. The guys have a great mix of good advice, interesting discussion, and humor. I like that they're all grownups with real jobs, families, and all that stuff, who can still take the time to help us all become better players and have more fun. Way to go. Keep up the good work!
The Independent Characters Podcast is very well put together and the disucssions are well thought out and the hosts and guests are 98% of the time able to stay on topic. I really recommend this for both Hard Core and Beginning players for those into Warhammer 40k. I'm not sure why there is Explicit by a lot of the episodes because I do not hear swearing or degrading statements. There might be the occasional slip but nothing compared to what you can hear on broadcast TV and radio. My hats off to these guys for doing such a professional job. Thank you guys for supporting the Warhammer 40k Community.
The ICs do such a superb job of putting on this podcast and creating genuinely exceptional content for the 40k community. I listen to every episode and when one is over I find myself checking their website (or as Carl suggests, facebook, the IC forums, or twitter) to see when the next episode will be released. Thank you ICs for keeping this podcast going!
The IC is a really fantastic podcast. The hosts are great, the recording quality is solid and they cover all aspects of the gaming hobby. I especially enjoy the book reviews and fluff discussions. The other outstanding thing about this podcast is how supportive and positive their whole group is. They talk about what they've done, what they're going to do and don't do any of the gamer whining that's so prevalent on forums, etc. Keep the great work guys!
I'm very new to 40k. Being a podcast addict, I almost immediately started searching for 40k podcasts. This was probably the second one I came across, and so far the best! If you're into 40k, this is a MUST LISTEN.
You guys are awesome! I listen to your shows when I'm working, drawing, getting some hobby work done. You've great oppinions about 40k. Btw, I tried registering to your forums but never got a confirmation email. I'm trying to become a member under the username "Flanagan". Could you help me out? Thanks, happy gaming!
I have listened to a wide variety of podcasts in this genre and always find myself coming back to this one. They deal with the best issues, releases, and more important they do the game a real service by not intimidating new players. They have lots of good information and have several points of view on the subjects they discuss. I am relatively new to this game with about 2 years of playing and about 4 years of fluff. Our local gaming community has grown exponentially in the past year and this podcast is a staple among all of our players. Thanks for such a great and informative show.
I often listen to music and podcasts during work and this is by far my favorite one, with banter and a talk radio feel it helps the time go by.
Best podcast for 40k period. They keep it fresh and stay dedicated to GW and 40k .
I used to play 40k years ago and your enthusiasm for the game has me interested in trying it again. Thank you for the good advice and fun banter. You have a fantastic podcast!
This is a great podcast that covers a variety of subjects. I has kept me well entertained while painting. Thank you for you the time you invest in creating your quality episodes!
Having listened to quite a few 40K podcasts recently, no one has perfected the formula quite like Independent Characters. The hosts are very experienced and informative, and do an excellent job of staying on topic but not carrying each segment on to excess. I appreciate the fact that they're very open to reader-submitted themes, which have provided for some very entertaining shows of late. Above all else though, the positivity and maturity of Independent Characters draws me back each episode; whereas whining and childish insults are often the norm on other shows, the IC hosts' approach (and Carl's in particular) brings a sense of enthusiasm that makes me even more interested in 40K. Keep up the awesome show, gentlemen!
Been in and out of 40k for most of my life and have been thinking about getting back into the game recently. Episodes 42 and 43 were done very well and truly helped reignite my interest in the game. Thanks guys.
This podcast started with two guys and I am at the point where a third guy was added in. There is a good amount of dialogue that is not forced. The discussions are relevant to the topics listed. I put this on and it helps motivate me to paint (I prefer to build models and play, not so much paint).
The Independent Characters podcast does a great job of celebrating the fun of 40k and the hobby in general. An active forum and frequent release schedule keeps the show fresh and lively. It's rare that I finish listening to an episode without being energized to take on a new hobby task, or play the game in a new way. I have yet to hear another podcast that does a better job of exploring the diversity presented by the 40k hobby. The IC cast are a set of garage gamers from the California Bay Area who spend most of their gaming time at home, but are also frequent participants in store run events and tournaments. From modeling, to painting, to diverse mission types, to tournament play, and everything in between, these guys are excited about the hobby and finding new ways to enjoy it. If you are looking for a broad scope look on a variety of topics this is the podcast to listen to.
I listen to the IC Podcast when I'm painting or assembling my models. The guys are very knowledgible about the rules and background of the 40k universe. Their recent 2 part podcast on what army is right for me is an excellent listen. We have two new players to our group. I suggested they listen to these two podcasts to learn more about their own armies as well as to learn about the armies they will be playing against. We have at least one of every army except Chaos Daemons and Dark Eldar in our group, so this is an excellent way for the new guys to get a feel for the character of other people's armies. I also listen to the show when I'm traveling in my car or flying on a plane. It let's me get my 40k fix when I'm away from home. Great job, guys!
..and I've listened to them all. They change the topic just about every episode so there is definately one for you. (Bringing 40K home is probably my favorite). The crazy part is I don't even play 40K anymore, but I still subscribe to this show. Its that entertaining. One request...maybe a side show covering Warmachine? Is that blasphemous?
I really like how you guys do your cast i've listen to others and i like your and 11th com the best and yours above theres, I like the most that your not a bunch of boozers and sound bit happy, like how you cover the hobby part as well as the tactics, would like to hear some more how too's but ive learned alot from you cast and FB and web sites cant wait for the next show to drop! Laszzerith
I'm a long time fan first time reviewer and this is easily the best podcast. I would highly recommend their review of the city fight, spearhead and badabwar. Well done!
Hey guys it took me to long to write a review for you guys, No one that listens to $0k podcast should leave home without this one.
After listening to almost all the shows after my original " avarage" review, I have to say that this is one of the top shows I listen to, Im done with Dice like thunder, down with th eternal warriors, done being Negative. The IC's reminded me of why I got into the podcast to begin with, thats to have fun and be entertained. Thanks guys , sorry about the original review. Your show just got better.
This is a great podcast filled with great information and three guys who love their hobby. Pros: Great content, personalities, and hobby passion. Cons: Occasional profanity and explicit topics. Does not come out often enough!!!! Keep at it guys!!!!
Great show! Just the right balance of tactics and hobby skills a must for 40k players everywhere. I particularly like how each show appears to be planned out in advance and there is not a lot of talk over. If you were going to listen to one 40K podcast this should be the one!. This is my favorite podcast!!!
Unfortunetly, itunes dose not have a 6 star option. This podcast is great. My favorite bit has to be the Imperial Armour reviews. I can't afford them, but I always look forward to the "fluff" overview to hear other stories from the 40k universe. Give them a listen, they are great!
I have finally listened to all the episodes up to date and I must say its been the most enjoyable podcast I have ever listened to. It even got me to switch armies to one that I would have more fun with rather then just go for the win. Carl and Geoff work great together and are always entertaining. I look forward to future shows and hope this podcast is able to continue for a long time.
Great podcast. Interesting topics handled well. Friendly & helpful community on the boards too.
This podcast is probably the best I have heard yet from anything 40k related! You guys blow the doors off the rest of these guys on iTunes . These guys have a great working knowledge of the game , give good educated Advice, and really seem to enjoy what they do and it shows in such a great presentation.
great 40k podcast. they are passionate about the hobby as a whole. definitely worth listening to especially while painting or modeling or driving. keep up the great work guys.
Love this show's angle on 40k. Keep it up, guys!!!
By far my most favorite pod cast, the enthusiasm of the hosts, and the topics of discussion are what keep me tuning in very episode
Great stuff!! They definitely keep me motivated in my hobby work. All around great job!
Good 40k podcast that has lots of hobby advice, good coverage of fluff, and a guy who is a serious competitive player who can give good tactical advice (something that I find other podcasts lack). The perfect thing to have in my ears while I paint.
These guys do a fantastic job covering 40k in a fun and entertaining way. There is just enough banter to keep the show feeling relaxed and friendly but not enough to feel like they go off track. Thier discussions about their hobby progress and their passion about the hobby is inspiring and keeps me excited about the hobby as well. I particularly enjoy their coverage of the Imperial Armour books and the way they embrace the fun aspect of the hobby and not the more competitive vein. Keep up the good work guys!!
I first heard of these guys from Life after the Cover Save (another fine podcast) and I've been hooked! Their coverage from all things 40k, forgeworld, etc you feel like your part of their group and not a cast full of douchey Ard Boyz or tourney players like other casts that are out there. I've even just joined the forum they host and it's a very strong and helpful 40k community. Give them a listen you won't be dissatisfied.
I've always liked warhammer 40k and this podcast has made me interested in getting back into it. So if your looking for an informative podcast this is a good one for you.
This is my favorite gaming podcast by far. It's a great balance between hobby and gameplay info with a ton of good ideas on having a fun and interesting game. These guys sound like a great group to game with and each episode gives me ideas I can take to back to my gaming group.
One of the best Warhammer 40k podcasts you can find.
Finally a Warhammer 40k podcast that is informative, engaging, and doesn't blather on about random crap. Good job guys!
I started listening to the IC Podcast over the 4th of July holiday and was immediately grabbed by the back and forth banter between Carl and Geoff. They keep it light and flowing and easy to listen to. I can listen to a full podcast and while I paint and the time just flys by. It really helps me since I am home alone when I paint because it lets me feel like I have company with me also into the hobby with me. Despite the "Explicit" tag, they are mostly very clean and I have never been offended by their any language or subjects (mainly because there isnt anything I would say is deserving of an explicit rating). I love the show. Keep up the great work guys!
This is a great 40k podcast. They cover great topics and express a real love for the game. The audio quality is top notch the the hosts have great "radio voices." Defintely worth listening to if you are at all intersted in Warhammer 40k.
Been listening to this 'cast from almost the beginning and have always been happy with the content. Usually very good advice on all topics and mostly stay on topic. Definitely worth listening to.
One of my fav. 40K podcasts. It's really great and covers all aspects of the hobby.
I started listening to this podcast about one year into playing 40k and this podcast has been the most useful as I've continued into the hobby. I started listening at episode one and felt like i have grown in 40k along with Carl, Geoff, and Zach from the podcast. This wasn't the first 40k podcast I listened to but by all means it is the best in terms of sound quality and discussion topics. The other podcasts become repetitive but Carl, Geoff, and Zach come up with great topics and reviews of products that are worth listening to multiple times. I also really like this podcast because I relate to Geoff and his "Newness" to 40k and don't like painting that much as well. Anyway off of the tangent I Love this podcast and any newer player or veteran of 40k should subscribe to this podcast because it is the best!!! Keep it up ICs
Just found this podcast a few episodes ago after hearing about it from some of the other 40k podcasts. I have to say this has quickly become one of my new favorite podcasts. I like the fact that it seems more laid back and less hardcore tournament oriented. They give a lot of useful information (also purchased the How to Paint Citadel Miniatures book, and I'm glad to know that I'm not alone in thinking that there is a lot of very useful information in there), and the sound quality is great. Overall, a top notch 40k podcast, and fully recommend everyone give it a try.
Great podcast, they do a better job of staying on topic than a lot of other hobby podcasts often manage to. Good information and banter without wandering too far afield.
I have thouroughly enjoyed listening to this podcast. The guys that make this are true fans of Warhammer 40,000, and this "fervor" leaks through in just about every way. An excellent choice for beginners and veterans alike, every tidbit of information that these gentlemen share is definitely worth the time for the lengthy episodes. Enjoyable every way you look at it. Good job, Indepent Characters!
This is a good show. I love the reviews of Imperial Armor books. If you haven't listened to them, you really outta.
These guys are very knowledgable and have great insight into Warhammer 40k. They offer one of the most professional and well maintained podcasts out there.
Totally dig this podcast. Overarching analysis of all aspects of the hobby and gaming within the Warhammer 40k universe. Your podcast gets me through my work day! Thank you!
There are a lot of "decent" 40K podcasts out there, but in my opinion this one is the best. A few reasons for that: 1. All of the guys that play seem like nice guys. All are guys that I would be happy to play each week at my FLGS and/or go out and have a beer (or 3) with...In addition, they're all positive and they acknowledge that they have lives outside 40K 2. All of the guys are honest about where they're at in the game and what they would like to do to get better. On top of that you get 3 different perspectives from the hosts; Geoff isn't much of a hobbyist, while Zack and Carl get pretty into it. Zack is a former WAAC tournament type while Carl and Geoff are casual guys that like to win occasionally. 3. The last thing is that these guys seem prepared each time they broadcast. Topics are well thought out, very little random down time or interviews with other podcasts just to fill time. I actually like that these guys don't broadcast each week because it's better when they do. Keep it up guys, loving each episode!
I started listening to this podcast about a month ago, when i bought "Assault on black Reach", and listened to all the back episodes. Very informative and entertaining podcast. I got some very good resources for bulding and painting my 40k Ork army. Evertime I listen i get really excited about painting and playing 40k. I will be moving to California in the fall and look forward to trying to get together with the host to play some 40k (even though i am an extreme noob). Keep up the great work guys!
I listen to allot of podcasts and there are few that are as good as these guys they are funny informative and full of spunk or whatever the 40k eq is
This podcst is on vary short list of Podcast I listen to most wargaming podcast are as good as this one and they have a listener for the life of the show! thank you guys for a great show and community.
I found these guys about a month ago. Since then I've listened to all of their podcasts. They do a great job of getting you excited about all things 40k. Well maybe not painting (thanks Geoff!)
Great coverege, Great show format! whats not to love about the IC. The show segments have great topics and provide diverse, well thought discussion. The show covers a plethora of hobbie goodness. Painting and modeling tips, Gameplay thoughts, tactica, and of course 40k humor abound. All fans of 40k and miniture games will enjoy this podcast!
This is good stuff. Love the podcast! LITERALLY!
I can not say enough good things about the quality of this show. The technical aspects are by far past what most podcasts in our hobby can every hope to achieve, Geoff and Carl have set out to raise the bar in the hobby and have done just that. At this point, they are competing only with themselves and still strive to put out a better and better quality product every time. Interestingly enough, the IC's have also started using video and are knocking those out of the park as well, we are already seeing imitators to the art, which to me says they are doing something right. So if you're amused, but not satisfied, with other podcasts in our hobby, such as battlefoam radio, check ou the IC's you will not be disappointed!
This is my favorite podcast that I listen to, the hosts are great and seem to truly enjoy the hobby. I can't recommend this podcast enough.
Carl and Geoff have this infectious chemistry that makes you feel like you are part of their inner circle. Their 40k coverage is top notch and they are just plain fun to listen to on a long commute to work! Give the podcast a try, you won't be sorry!
I started off listening to 40k radio, but dumped them as soon as I found the Independent Characters. These guys are great! It's pretty much listening to a couple guys talk about a hobby they enjoy, and you can tell they love what they do. Lots of in-depth coverage, knowledge of the game, and tips and suggestions for the hobby as a whole. Favorite thing to do is listen while painting or driving. They also have a great forum community on their website, so go check it out! Keep up the good work, Geoff and Carl!
The Independent Characters podcast is a really polished and entertaining 40k podcast with tons of interesting content that is released every 2 weeks. I had never seriously listened to a podcast before I tried the ICs and this podcast definitely proved that they can be worth while. Hands down, the ICs is one of the better 40k podcasts out there, if not the best and I would highly recommend giving the ICs a shot if you havent already. Plus, it's great for when you're painting! What more could you ask for?
Great show to listen to while painting, modeling, and playing. They give great insights on parts of the game that get commonly overlooked (supplements, etc....)
I really enjoy this podcast and constantly look forward to its release. It covers a wide range of the hobby so there is something for everyone. They have good sound/editting with good talk between the hosts. Highly reccomended for anyone interested in 40k.
Hey guys I just subscribed to the podcast. I had heard of you guys several time on the 11th company and decided it was time to broaden my horizon. I have to say that with all the podcasts out there you guys really know the game but more than that you are some of most down to earth gamers i've come across. I"m a married college student who happens to also love the time consuming hobby of 40k and i really appreciate the real life, and positive approach you guys take to the hobby. Keep up the good work.
Hands down, best 40k related podcast out there. These guys are knowledgeble, in both 40k tactica and how to keep a podcast interesting.
I listen to all the 40k podcast this is the second best IMO, but only due to humor . I find the overlords really really funny so they get no. 1 spot ,and I am a big fan of tac marines so u lose points for that haha . You guys are a strong second though. Really liked the city of death ep. Wanted to know what that was all about and now I do. Кззp up the good work and thanks for all the effort .
This is by far the best 40k podcast since the original 40k radio with Spencer. Informative and a great listen. Gets me motivated to hobby!
These guys really break the game down for everyone weither your in it for the fluff, hobby or just kicking someones teeth in on a game. There coverage of the conventions and product reviews are great. Keep up the great quality content, thanks again. Also WINNING!
There are a lot of 40k podcasts out there but these guys are one of my top five. Go to their website and check out thier podcast network to find the other four. Thanks guys! Keep 'em coming!
as a newish player of 40k i find the info in this podcast to be great. from them discussing game addons like cities of death, to the 'true cost of 40k' and their trournament prep show i have learned a ton from their episodes. if you are new to 40k and are looking for a podcast packed with great info to help you get into the game then you should subscribe to this podcast right now! it also has really good sound quility and the hosts are very professional sounding
You guys put on an amazing show. Please please please keep going. You make my commute something to look forward to. Highly recommended. Thank you for all you do.
If you're looking for a mature, professional WH40K podcast stop looking because this is it. The hosts are witty, knowledgeable, insightful and fun; there's a great dynamic between them and a welcome lack of Beavis-and-Butthead style "Uh huh huh huh" Keep up the great work, guys!
I listen to a lot of podcasts on my daily commute and this one is certainly in the top 3. I especially enjoy their reviews of the Forgeworld Imperial Armour books. I also really like the nice balance of gaming/hobbying info and 40k back story. Keep up the great work guys!
I listen to many 40K podcasts and the Independent Characters is one of the better ones with a good mix of topics discussed, and Carl and Geoff are entertaining hosts. Keep up the good work guys.
I really enjoy the podcast. Great sound quality and a good variety of 40k related topics. It is nice to not have to skip over non-40k related discussion. Keep it up guys!
Love the podcast, came here through the IVC guys and will be following you guys closely. Loved the Adepticon coverage and cant wait to hear the next episode!
Great Podcast that talks about the 40k hobby, fluff and gaming. Highly recommend this podcat.
This is such an excellent podcast that keeps me excited about all aspects of the hobby. Thanks guys for keeping this podcast going!
Very good 40k podcast Informative on the goings on in 40k great chemistry between the hosts and free of the juvanile humor that is rampant on other 40k casts.
It took me a long time to listen to the IC's but I am really glad I did. With these guys you can really tell they love the game and it make for really fun listening. If you are not subscribed to them you are really missing out.
I have been listening to these guys for months now and find every episode worth the time it takes to listen to it and then some! I find myself waiting eagerly for the next episode to come out. Carl and Geoff are two funny and informative guys with sounds tactics and great view on 40k.
I have only listened to one episode but I will definitely be listening to the others. I just wish that there was a more detailed content listing (with times so you could jump ahead if you wanted) Great job.
One of my favorite 40k podcasts, lots of great info and analysis but also plenty of fun and entertainment. Highly recommended!
Carl and Jeff are Great hosts! They pick topics that hardcore players, fluff bunnies and everyone inbetween enjoy listening to. They are one of the only podcasts which has reveiwed Imperial Armour and their guest hosts had flavour to the show. Keep the podcast coming guys! :)
When I initially came across these guys I was listening to a handful of other podcasts that covered 40k, but each one was more about the game than about the actual hobby. Carl and Jeff do a great job of including all aspects of Warhammer 40k into their podcast. It has quickly become my favorite podcast for 40k and I sorely wish I could meet their group for a game. The show is fun and well worth waiting for. Keep up the good work!
I have been subscribed to essentially every 40k podcast on itunes for over a year. In that time, some have been removed. The Independant Characters podcast is not one of them. This podcast delivers entertainment, hobby advice, gameplay tactics, and reviews of the products coming out. This podcast is the most consistent and professional of the bunch. Old episodes are just as relevant and listenable as new ones, and the hours pass sublimely as I listen in the car, at work, and while playing games. If you only have time for one 40k podcast, this is the best. Accept no substitues.
This podcast first and foremost is great for listening to while painting/assembling your models. This feels like im listening to a bunch of friends I used to hang out with talking about 40k, painting, playing and hobby progress. Very well put together with great editing! Fallen
Probably the best 40k podcast out there. These guys put a lot of work into their show and it pays off. They have an excellent chemistry and great content. These guys are a must listen if you are into Warhammer 40k. They cover hobbying and varient game types among other things, an area neglected by many of the podasting community. Keep up the good work.
This is a great podcast and is top quality in pretty much all respects. I will enjoy listening to this podcast in the future.
Independent Characters quickly grew into the guys to beat from starting not even a year ago when it comes to 40k podcasting. They have crisp audio and editing, their content is always rich, they always give very thought-out discussion on their topics and do not bash anybody. All this while still providing a fun atmosphere that draws the listener in. Another major aspect to note is that they always have a dedicated topic and stick to it unlike other shows out there that spend too much time just ranting every detail about games they played for 2 hours. Keep up the great work guys!
I started listening to the IC a few months ago, and I am hooked. Carl, Geoff, and Zach have found a great balance between friendly discussion, technical and tactical know-how, and love for the hobby. I really enjoy listening to them dig into the subject of a given episode and come at it from all angles - the fluff, the crunch, and how it works on the tabletop. I especially like their review episodes, where they've covered a supplement for 40K (Planetstrike, Cities of Death, the IA Badab War books); not only do they talk about the books themselves, but they also playtest them and cover how they enjoyed it and what they learned about it. Top that off with a great, friendly attitude all around, and it's easy to feel like you're part of their play group. I see myself listening to the Independent Characters as long as they keep putting out episodes, and I highly recommend them.
Covering a broad range of topics and with just the right amount of humor the IC podcast has quickly become one of my favorites of the 40k genre. Already several 40k centric podcasts have risen and fallen in the short time of podcasting, but with the amount of effort Geoff & Carl have put into their planning of episodes, rotation of guests to mix things up and their investment in quality sound equipment (something many podcasts seem to lack), the IC's are hopefully here to stay!
Thanks for all the hard work and time that you all put in to the podcast.
Just wanted to say thanks for putting out quality shows. Carl and Geoff are great hosts and that have a knack for podcasting. Don't have a group of buddies to talk 40k with? No worries, you've got the Independent Characters!
Carl and the guys really make you feel as though you are part of their gaming group. Top Notch Podcast; I started listening to them since their 3rd episode and they have gotten better and better. Keep up the great work guys!!!
You guys are doing a great job keep up the good work. Ryan Matthews (Mattraptor)
This is a top tier pod cast. Carl and Geoff are very professional in their broadcasting and are fun and enjoyable to listen too. They take it serious, but not too serious. Highly recommend it to all 40k fans.
Top notch, great sound, good information, what else do you need?
I've been listening to a number of tabletop gaming podcasts, and this makes my top 5. If you like listening to people talking about gaming and hobby (focused on 40k of course), who don't apparently hate the company whose product their podcast is based on, you should give this a listen. Also, SF Bay Area shoutouts for tournaments and shops. Really good to listen to if you're gaming in the area.
I love this podcast specifically for the enthusiasm that the hosts have for the hobby in general. They cover not just armies, tactics, games and conventions but they also show a strong interest in the painting and modeling parts of the hobby as well. I have really enjoyed the recent discussions on making your own resin molds to duplicate those rare bits. Recently the gang has started to branch out beyond 40k and it is a pleasure to hear them talk about their adventures starting a new game system. Keep it going!
The Independent Characters are a true asset to the gaming community. While other shows spend their time interrupting guests, talking over each other, complaining about the hobby they've chosen or telling offensive or stupid jokes, the hosts of this show are dedicated to growing the community and bringing us all together. If you are looking for a show that is interesting, full of content and that feels like your listening in on a typical game store conversation between friends (without all the misogyny, homophobia and burping into the mic that is so common) then this is the show for you. Among their best shows are those that showcase Forgeworld's Imperial Armor series. Their reviews on this series are insightful and always a good listen. I only wish they covered some of my other favorite games like Necromunda.
It's a nerdy orgasm of gaming fun with likeable and relatable characters. What other podcast host would accept being tabled at a Con and still host a show!
Great battle reports and strategy/tactical discussion that have a great breadth going from specific unit tactics to overall army strategy. It's refreshing to hear someone talk about units in terms other than theory hammer. Great painting and Modeling tips too!
As someone is just getting back into 40k after a break of over 10 years the IC was a great find. The crew of the IC are positive, upbeat and throughly engaged in the hobby. There are several 40k podcasts have a love- hate relationship with GW. This is not one of those. If you are interested in 40k give them a listen. It will be worth your time.
Love these guys. I think that they are on of the best podcasts for 40k on iTunes. I usually laugh out loud at least twice listening to them. They have alot of useful info about the tournaments and the new models coming out.
I really enjoy this podcast. I listen to many podcasts relating to Warhammer 40k, and this one is easily one of my favorites. I do get the feeling as I listen, that I have no doubt that the hosts would be fun to game with. The reviews on the Imperial Armor books from Forgeworld are top notch. Keep up the great work guys!
This is an awesome podcast by a great group of guys. Insightful and rousing. Thanks guys.
Loving this podcast! Great coverage, sound quality and subject matter! A usual in my 40K podcast listening. Keep up the great work guys! - SavageJester - SoCal
...for info, opinions, strategy, news, and quality 40k content. Easily one of the best, most well done wargaming podcasts there are. The Independent Characters is the podcast I most consistently download and listen to as it comes out. I don't see that changing anytime soon.
This is an awesome podcast. The hosts show a real love for the hobby. Anybody wanting to listen to a great podcast should tune in.
A very well produced podcast with informative, entertaining content. Their Adepticon coverage was excellent. With their exposure to new audiences, people may soon learn how to spell Jeff's name correctly. :P
These guys have a great flow and awesome content. The episodes they did on imperial armor were amazing great info. One of the best podcast out there. ;-)
Having listened to many podcast over the past few years the IC podcast quickly went from obscure to being one of the most well put together around. I enjoy the how the co-hosts get along so well and seem to be able to play off each other and help keep the show mostly on topic and enertaining, thanks and keep up the good work!
A good 40k cast, sound quality, content these guys do a good job of it. Its what you want your conversations with your friends to be like, jovial , pleasant ,and informitative. Geoff and Carl make you wish you could slip into their group and join the fun.
These guys are great. They keep you involved in the hobby and make you feel like you are a part of the community that is 40k and the independent characters. They are funny an informative. I love this show.
This is an amazing podcast. Great for renewing interest in the hobby and getting one interested in more than just playing a game. Whether it be discussions on Forge World models, Imperial Armor, campaigns or the background lore, it is always a treat to listen to the guys talk about my favorite hobby.
I have been listening for awhile and cant get enough. Some of the best episodes are the the coverage of the Imperial Armour books. Keep up the good work!
Been listening for a while, but actually seeing the coverage Carl and Geoff did at Adepticon made me finally sit down and write out a review. They've really been doing a great job for a long time, and every time they do a review of a book (using their patented "bang for you buck" system) I have to listen to it multiple times because I enjoy it so much. Carl has an infectious entusiasim for the game that's obvious to anyone that listens for even a few minutes, and has a great back and forth with his co-host Geoff. It's been my favorite 40K podcast for a long time, and shows every sign of getting better as it goes on. Great job, guys!
A really great podcast. Good quality, good content and they always stay on topic. Keep up the good work guys!
Awsome podcast! This podcast is really entertaining, and they bring alot to the table in the way of good tactics, preperation, and good fun - Thorn
I really like this podcast. They manage to strike a happy medium between focused 40k talk and side tangents. They don't get constantly sidetracked, but they're also not fixated on 40k to the exclusion of all else.
This is one of the best 40k podcasts i have in my selection. Both Carl and Geoff have a great mix of personalities and are very fun to listen to. What makes this pocast great is the fact that they give amazingly detailed reviews on the imperial armour forge world books the normally most people could not afford. please keep up the good work and awesome adepticon coverage!!!
This podcast is one of the few 40k podcasts that I still enjoy listening to. Others feel obligated to be a real-world South Park episode filled with large quantities of cursing and imbibing quantities of illegal substances off of certain appendages (you know the one I am referring to), while this podcast only retains its Explicit Content label because the occasional curse slips out once in a while. Carl and Geoff are superb hosts and work well together, often hosting contests for loot (most recently, a miniature submission contest for a Kaiser Case made by KR Multicase) and streaming LIVE coverage from the final tables at Adepticon 2011. The show covers a wide range of topics, from Imperial Armour reviews, tactics, and army backgrounds that are well thought-out and insightful. With stellar product reviews, awesome Adepticon coverage, and excellent discounts and reviews for some of the more prominent 40k bitzsellers are what await the person that listens to this one-of-a-kind podcast. (bladebaka)
This podcast is really great. Every episode has tons of awesome content, ranging from book review (non-codexes) to how to play new game styles. I've only been listening for a few episodes, but I've downloaded every back episode just I didn't miss a single thing. Listen whenever I can, and try to participate on their forums. Great group of guys, keep up the fantastic work Carl and Geoff.
These guys are great at what they do! They're fun to listen to and sound like they'd be fun to game with. The gaming community is lucky to have them in my opinion- great community builders!
These guys really know their stuff. Great information on painting, army building, and table play. The format is enjoyable and moves at a good pace. This definitely has improved my knowledge of Warhammer 40k.
Great podcast that never lets you down. They guys know what they are talking about and have a good variety of segments to keep the listener engaged. Imperial Armor Coverage is excellent and has led me to buy the books.
I listen to a number of 40k podcasts and I never want to miss an episode from the Independent Characters. Geoff and Carl put this on and they recently brought in another host via skype (I think) named Zach. Zach adds a nice touch, but the show at this point is really about Geoff and Carl. These two work great together providing their views, opinions, and experience on the 40k hobby. It has been fun listening to them develope over the months and they make you feel like part of their gaming group. They do some great reviews on the series of Imperial Armour books, which I won't buy, but these two make it hard to resist!! They have a fresh take on 40k podcasting and they come up with fresh ideas for each show and they examine the ideas in great (but fun) detail!! Don't Stop!!!!!!!!!
The Independent Characters is a great 40K podcast. Interesting topics, in-depth coverage of the many ways to play 40K and a cast of regulars and guests that are engaging and fun. Highly recommend.
These guys have great chemistry together. They both listen to each other without interupting and I appreciate that. They are some of the most knowledgeable people in the 40k hobby and I've learned a lot from their podcasts. Keep up the good work guys!!!
Just started listening 2 days ago but I'm flying through these. Keep up the great work!
Update: Still my favorite podcast on 40k. These guys should also be commended for all their other efforts a well to build the wargaming community. I really enjoy the guests, and their insight as well. Nov 2010: Not much to say other than this is a sweet podcast for any 40k fan. I personally only listen to podcasts that focus mostly on 40k and post every week or so.
My favorate 40k podcast. They are positive, enthusiastic, and have awesome content. Keep up the good work guys!
I listen to a number of podcasts. The IC's are in my top five 40k podcasts and I'd recommend you give them a try if you haven't. Carl and Geoff have a great rapport and good understanding of the game. They also manage to keep things moving along and actually centered on the game (I really hate listening to 40k podcasts and hearing hosts drone on about non-40k related things for three hours). I've laughed out loud on several occasions - something most podcasts can't get you to do. One thing worth mentioning is their coverage of the Imperial Armour books. These are really entertaining and worth listening to if you haven't read the books (like me). These are expensive books so it's nice to hear a review of them before I plop my money down. Keep up the good work guys I'm looking forward to more in 2011, especially your Adepticon coverage.
Great show. fun to listen to and full of good information on all things 40k.
Excellent work, very informative and engaging. These guys set a goal of making you feel like you're part of their gaming group and they actually achieve it. They have me excited about aspects of 40K I was never aware of. Keep up the good work guys.
This podcast is, without a doubt, one of the better quality podcasts out there for 40k. Geoff and Carl do an awesome job and I highly recommend this to anyone looking for an exceptional podcast. Great job guys, keep up the awesome work!
Kudos to the guys producing The Independant Characters podcasts. It has quickly become my favorite podcast for 40k out there. While certainly not G-rated, they are a little tamer than a lot of the others who often swear for swearing's sake or shock value. Their interviews are insightful. They ask pertinent questions and have tackled subject matter with out sounding pedantic or condescending. In all, when I listen to their discourses and opinions, they sound like the kind of guys I would like to hang out with. Thanks fellas, and keep up the good work.
In all honesty, there's little here that we haven't heard in other 40k-related podcasts: These are essentially just two guys talking about what they've done hobby-wise. Truly yawn-inducing.
I've listened to just about all the 40k podcasts out there and was skeptical about listening to this one. The lack of Games Workshop news and hardcore army strategery so prevalent in other podcasts made me hesitant to listen. Now I find this is the first 40k podcast I turn to. Why? Because these 1-2 hours are all about the fun of the game. I never noticed how much other podcasts whine over and over about rules or games workshop. This podcast is like a breath of fresh air. Both casters are funny and informative. Thanks for keeping the game fun guys!
The podcast has a good cast of veteran players. They tend to know the game very well and treat their listeners as such. This is a good podcast for those that have played the game alot and can be considered veterans. Keep up the good work guys :)
This dynamic duo make for an excellent podcast that makes you feel a part of their growing community that they are currently fostering. Each episode begins with them etalking about their current endevours and struggles in the hobby making one easily indentify with them. Then they move forward into less commonly discussed topics that not only a veteran would enjoy but any enthuisist new to the hobby. I have enjoyed the podcast so much that I quickly downloaded all previous episodes and listened through them wanting more. If you are a fan of podcast like Gamers Lounge or Dice Like Thunder, I would give this podcast a whirl and then stop over at their website which has a great community around the wargaming hobby in general.
For as young as this podcast is, the sound quality is awesome. Like the laidback, don't need to how to think/what to do attitude. Just plain here is how we do it. Makes no pretense of expertise. They cover imperial armour and other topics other podcasts gloss over or ignore. All in all, regularly makes it on my MP3....
This is a very relaxed podcast that really makes you feel part of their gameing group. I only wish i did not live on the other side of the country. :) I would highly recommend them and their sound quality is great. Keep up the good work.
Hey, they took my sugestion for a Forge World episode. Make your own sugestion and see what happens. They'r good guys witha good show.
This podcast is a must listen if you love 40k. It makes you feel like you are just hanging with your friends and talking shop. Very entertaining and great sense of humor.
Geoff and Carl produce a really great show. You'll feel like you are in the room with them, a member of their gaming club, just sitting back, chatting about models/fluff/tournaments and all sorts of other topics. The production quality of the show, is the best of any 40k podcast. Defintely give them a listen, you won't regret it.
An excellent podcast based around the Warhammer 40k hobby. Informative, creative, and filled with humor, a must listen if your a fan of the GW hobby.
At first I was reluctant to add another hobby podcast to my already burgeoning list. Listened to the Vraks episode and instantly loved it! Must listen to to understand but the topics and discussion definately set this podcast apart from the rest.
This show is very well balanced. The hosts are mature but not stuffy and dry. It's not a "clean language" podcast but you also don't have to sort through 35 f-bombs just to listen to what they have to say. They typically run about 2 hours so it's not too short and not too long. The sound quality has been spot-on since episode one. This is still a fairly new one so I expect it to grow and change a little, but I've enjoyed every episode thoroughly so far and can't wait for the next one.
For a new podcast, these guys have way more polish than most of the more established 40k shows out there. The sound quality is good, 40k discussion is interesting and I like their fun/positive view of the hobby.
Solid podcast with real gamers. The organic nature of the cast captures the house-game experience on tape so well. At times I find myself wanting to burst out and let them know when I agree and when i don't even though they are not in the room. The real experiences of the greater hobby shine as they look at all aspects of the hobby not just what units are good or reading the flavor of the month codex. I am hooked and soon you will be as well.
These guys have done a great job intentionally avoiding the same issues similar podcasts cover (stale news, codex over-analysis) to bring a fresh angle to the hobby.
This is a great Podcast. The fact that it has great sound quality is just the tip of the iceberg. This was the first Wargaming Podcast that I listened to and it will be the Podcast that I judge all future wargaming Podcasts by. Excellent work gentlemen.
That's what the show evokes. These guys have good discussions and know the topic well. Also important is that they spend the time, energy and equipment to get an excellent sound quality. I've given up on other shows 'cuz they are hard to listen to. Keep it up guys!!!
These guys are hysterical!
Intelligent conversation? In a 40k podcast? Color me impressed.
Great show with amazing hosts.
Not even a gamer and I laughed my butt off!!!
Fun and interesting. They're funny and intelligent guys. Nice job!
This podcast has great sound quality, and a balanced approach to the 40k scene. The coverage of 40k and the tournament scene is very in-depth, and allows for a better understanding of the current state of the game. While I am a veteran gamer and truly enjoy the show, I can imagine many new players also getting a great amount of information from this podcast. Thank you guys for the great work, and keep the shows coming!
You guys do a great job! Keep up the good work!
These guys do a great job presenting relevant 40K information in an ordered fashion. Good production quality. Up there with the 11th Co.
A great, casual feeling 40k podcast. Not a hard-nosed, "perfect list" strategy style podcast, but more of a continuing, evolving narrative of 40k and the 40k metagame from guys who legitimately love to game.
I have to say this is a really great show. From their interesting topics, insights on their hobby, and the relaxed conversational atmosphere they project; this show has quickly become my favorite podcast. Definitely take the time to check them out if you are a gamer, even if you don't play 40K. Great show guys.
Thanks for the great podcast. You do a great job. Looking forward to more episodes.
Easily my #1 podcast to listen to! Definitely looking forward to future episodes! Great things to come from these guys!! See you guys on the forums - Malich.
Excellent podcast, well worth 5 stars. Excellent conversation, good sound quality, very easy and fun to listen to.
It helps that I know one of the voices, but these guys generate a fun conversation to listen to. They are really into the game! In the first episode they said that wanted the Podcast to bring you into their group, and I think it does just that. Awesome job guys!
Great podcast! Very informative, great sound quality, and just fun to listen to.
These guys are a lot of fun to listen to. I found myself relating closely to many of their 40k experiences. Keep it up guys! Looking forward to more.
This is a Good group of guys and a good pod cast. They have fun, and insight, what more can you ask for.
