Royals and 2020   (1/5)

I heard the podcast on the royals and 2020. To say this podcast was a disappointment would be an understatement. Hadley Freeman completely failed to discuss the racism directed towards Meghan Markle. As a journalist, that was a complete failure on her part and also intimated a pernicious undertone. I expect and usually receive better from the Guardian.

Sad   (2/5)

The royal family podcast sounded like sniggering at people who cannot defend themselves. Have loved these podcasts. Saddened to hear this latest podcast. Is my opinion right? To me yes. For others no. Thank you for listening.

Would recommend   (5/5)

Seems consistently high quality, relevant, and interesting Edit: can the editors please not go overboard I was really trying to focus during the July 27 2020 episode on covid vaccines and they kept putting in orchestral flourishes in the background. Yes I get it the reporter you’re interviewing uses an orchestra metaphor! but it’s not actually helping me absorb the info it’s just genuinely frustrating

A loyal listener   (5/5)

Love the podcast and listen to every episode nearly as soon as it comes out! Keep up the fantastic work!

Amazing Podcast   (5/5)

I start each day by listening to their amazing reporting from the beautiful voices of the hosts combined with excellent sound production. I’m from Wisconsin, USA and I feel 50% smarter each time I listen. Thank you!!!

A request   (5/5)

Great podcast - thanks for making it happen everyday under trying circumstances. Any chance you could do an episode on what’s happening with COVID-19 in Africa, perhaps bring Jason Burke on? Cheers

The best   (5/5)

I listen to dozens of different podcasts and Today in Focus is one of the very best. I learn something new with every episode, and am often moved and/or inspired as well. The reporting is first-rate, the topics are varied and important, and the information is presented in an interesting, intelligent, and compassionate manner. I can't recommend this program highly enough.

Admirable.   (5/5)

The greatest aspect of the show is that I can be intrigued and informed without being depressed over current events, and this is not to say that they steer away from what matters.

The Brexit analysis is masterly   (5/5)

The podcast is always interesting and offers unusual takes on familiar topics or informative views on the less usual. Friday’s Brexit Gamble analysis, however, went above and beyond this podcast’s usual high standard. It gives clarity, analysis and insights into a topic which one would think had been so chewed over and hackneyed as to be beyond interest; but not in their hands. Great work.

Very well done!   (5/5)

Just finished listening to “Life after Auschwitz”, very emotional and very informative and touching and most of all a subject that’s so important. Very well put questions and sensitive tone and voice. Highly recommend this podcast...I am impressed, thank you!

Usually brilliant, Iran episode dreadful   (4/5)

I am an avid daily listener to Today in Focus and usually love the honesty and rigor of the coverage. However, the recent episode on Qassem Solemani was appallingly tepid and one-sided. Please produce more rigorous content about Iran and Iraq! Why was there zero mention throughout the entire episode of any US led violence and misadventures in the region? Do we really think the Shia militias in Iraq would have been operating the way they have if not for the US-led invasion? Did Western countries not almost entirely rely in Iranian and Kurdish ground forces to defeat ISIS, with so little thanks now? Why is Western violence rendered invisible or justified while Iranian violence is viewed in a vacuum?

Buried the lede on “Roughsex” episode   (5/5)

Excellent show, as ever. But, didn’t you sail right past the most mainstream part of this story? the role played by access to porn which is, without judgment per se, unrecognizable to the Porn of the Past...? The ubiquity of internet porn, including all the deviance and savagery of its most distant reaches, where asphyxiation is quaint by comparison, is the story here. ‘Ubiquity’ and access is hardly sexy, but that’s the story. Please try again!

Love It   (5/5)

Dave from Seattle stopping by to say I love the podcast. It’s nice to know that we’re not the only country in a political mess. I really enjoy the British accents and slang. I contribute to the this outfit and so should you.

Anoushka   (5/5)

As a standard news topic podcast it is of the normal high quality one would expect of Guardian content. However there is something more here. I have felt on several occasions that Anoushka brings a special kind of empathic approach and humanistic touch to the people involved in these stories and personally this is something that I very much appreciate. I feel sparks of insight and understanding light up in my mind.

So much mumbling   (3/5)

If making a podcast is your job, wouldn’t mastering the volume be a priority?

excellent podcast   (5/5)

Keeps me informed.

Hate Against Duchess of Sussex   (4/5)

Interesting podcast. All the hate against The Duchess ofSussex begs a bigger question: Why is there so much U.K. media protection & double standards for White British Royal who allegedly raped underaged girls (Did Royal Protection Officers accompany Prince Andrew to Epstein’s unsavory events?) and for White Royals who spend exorbitant amounts of taxpayers’ dollars on residences, vacations & air travel; & White female Royals who wear dark nail polish & off the shoulder dresses getting media praise rather than ridicule that’s directed at Meghan. The double standards & media blackout of White Royals’ misdeeds are neverending & provides media cover for them to do very expensive & offensive things, including adultery. Yet, they’re praised ad nauseum for simply showing up at a scheduled event & barely mumbling thru a speech or simply doing what’s right. It’s obvious why U.K. media has targeted Meghan in such an inhumane way. But, the world is watching & history will not be kind to the U.K. media.

Thank You   (5/5)

Thank you to those at the Guardian for producing this informative and interesting podcast. I listen to numerous news podcasts, and it’s safe to say that this is one of my favorites.

Invaluable   (5/5)

Guardian journalists provide insight into the day’s news from a refreshing international perspective.

Great short long form News Podcast   (5/5)

Amazing in depth news podcast. Really great work from the guardian. Thank you guys.

Some of the best journalism   (5/5)

The Today In Focus podcast represents some of the best journalism quite consistently, has become my favourite part of The Guardian. Long enough to present a fairly deep dive into each topic, and more nuanced than printed articles and able to cut through some of the tribalism. The presenter Anushka Asthama is sympathetic to counter arguments and understand the complexities and nuances of various issues, aspects that Guardian articles sometimes lack. Case in point: talking to the remoaners are traitors crowd she went “we’re from your favourite newspaper.“ Drawing laughter and possibly making them more amenable to candid discussion.

Proper Journalism   (5/5)

Awesome podcast. Independent journalism at its finest.

Excellent - Much More Than USA’s Trump, Trump, Trump   (5/5)

Enjoy the outside-of-the-USA perspectives. We Americans are not being served well by our media. Thanks Guardian! (Love your newspaper app too)

about time. a great podcast from the guardian.

Good, good & thanks from the west coast, US   (5/5)

I listen to the Guardian in all forms AND I send money every month. You too!?

Terrific and very informative   (5/5)

I’m a US listener from the hot state of Florida. I’ve been listening to the podcast since the beginning. And it’s quickly became one of my favorites. It’s terrific journalism, not a long listen, offers interesting and varied opinions from different groups, and covers a variety of topics that aren’t traditionally reported on(from the UK, the US, and around the world). The opinion pieces sat the end of episodes are also an added bonus and are very thought provoking.

Great podcast!!!   (5/5)

I love the insights that were given within the podcast, it has rocketed up my list of favourite things to listen to on my morning commute into London. Would highly recommend!!

This is news journalism at it’s best. Thank you!   (5/5)

If it matters to some, I am a U.S. citizen listener who can think for himself & only wants independently vetted facts without the spin & bias. I highly recommend this, if one wants clear, concise, intelligent, evidence-based reporting on important current world news & enjoys the complimentary polish of the BBC.
